• Project-wide additional library paths -- MSVS2008

  Hi there. I'm setting up a VC++ project in MS Visual Studio 2008 that'll be used by several people. I wanted to keep things as simple as possible so I've set up Additional Include Directories via the Project properties. I've also set up additional library files via Tools - Options - Projects and Solutions - VC++ Directories. However, my issue is that I really need to set up Additional library PATHs, because I am using an SDK which does inline linking of libraries. I could just tell each one of the participants to manually add the library path to their MSVS2008 environment, but it would be handy if I could integrate the RELATIVE library path in the project itself.

• TCP 30 small packets per second polutes connection with server

  I'm testing connection with flash client and cloud server(boost::asio for software) over TCP connection. My connection with server already is really poor - 120 ms ping in average. I found when i start to send packets with 2 bytes size (without tcp header) with speed 30 packets/s ping grow to 170-200 average. I think that it's really bad and my bad connection and bad cloud provider is reason for this high ping without any load. What do you think? (I tested my software and can compute about 50k packets/s so software is not a problem).

• How to add model entity property in WCF RIA service

  I'm developing silverlight app with WCF Ria service. I'm using MS SQL database and Entity Framework as ORM framework (Database first method). Model with domain service are in separate project - App1.Data. Silverlight and generated model proxy classes are in App1 project. I want to add property to model entity class EntityClass to get this property on client side. So I did it that way - added this class to project App1.Data: public partial class EntityClass { [DataMember] public List<EntityClass2> PropertyName {get; set;} } After rebuilding EntityClass proxy on client side doesn't have this new property. Where is my mistake?

• Rails- MiniMagick commands not working

  I'm running windows xp and I've got MiniMagick and ImageMagick installed (latest versions). I'm now using the console to test out that everything works. Using the ms command prompt image magick works no problem. I'm testing this by using the identify command. Now, when I try to use MiniMagick from the console by entering image = MiniMagick::Image.new('image.jpg') It returns MiniMagickError, "ImageMagick command ("identify \"input.jpg\"") failed: {:status_code = #"'identify' is not recognized as an internal or external command,\noperable program or batch file.\n"} Can anybody help?

• Caching result of SELECT statement for reuse in multiple queries

  I have a reasonably complex query to extract the Id field of the results I am interested in based on parameters entered by the user. After extracting the relevant Ids I am using the resulting set of Ids several times, in separate queries, to extract the actual output record sets I want (by joining to other tables, using aggregate functions, etc). I would like to avoid running the initial query separately for every set of results I want to return. I imagine my situation is a common pattern so I am interested in what the best approach is. The database is in MS SQL Server and I am using .NET 3.5.

• Using send_file in rails

  I'm sending a ms-word file using rails. i.e when I click on a link, a doc file from tmp folder(in project) is sent. The code I'm using is @filename ="#{RAILS_ROOT}/tmp/test/test.doc" send_file(@filename , :filename => "test", :type => 'application/msword', :disposition => 'attachment', :streaming => 'true', :buffer_size => '4096') Its working, but its sending a empty file. Content is missing in the file. any suggestions??

I am trying to provide some clarity. Is this an accurate way to describe the difference in the meaning of schemas between the two technologies? An Oracle schema is associated with a single user and consists of the objects owned by the user. A MS SQL Server schema schema is a namespace.

• Sharepoint Web performance optimization

  We are running on SSL on following server topology: 1 ISA (SSL Terminate/cache/proxy+AD authentication) 1 Sharepoint 1 IBM DB2 Database as enterprise/corporate DB 1 MS SQL Server as local DB We have recently optimized the caching, compression, minification, and other ASP.net best practices such as viewstate and cookie sizes, minimizing round trips, parallel connections/domain sharding and a lot more.... Now we are not convinced that the we are in an optimized position as the network resources i.e. bandwidth and especially latency are out of our control!! The client/browser to server/sharepoint is trans-Atlantic i.e. (ASIA, USA, EUROPE). As of my understanding the only ways to improve the network (latency) are: - TCP/SSL optimization - hardware/software? - CDNs - cloud or our own ? MS-Access DB. i do: INSERT INTO Orders (userId) VALUES (123)" what i want to retrieve is orderNumber from that row. its an auto-increment number. so i did: SELECT orderNumber FROM Orders WHERE userId=123 but since it is on the same page, the SELECT returns: Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has been deleted.   Guys, I've just dipped in to limits.h by MS. • ASP.NET jQuery Ajax posting forms

  Hi, I can't seem to get the jQuery.ajax() function posting back any of my asp.net generated form controls. I've put a break point on the server side and there aren't any values. Is there a way around this or do I have to build up a list of what I want sent back? Another question slightly off topic, but it seems that although jQuery is a great JS library, it doesn't seem to integrate too well with .net. Has anyone given up with jQuery to perform server side interaction and just gone with ms ajax implementation?

  A while ago I worked on a MS-SQL project and I remember a "IS IN" thing. I tried it on a MySQL project and it did not work. Is there an equivalent? Workaround? How would you achieve that with MySQL (while trying to be efficient)?

• ASP.Net website makes browser load unwanted (non-referenced) plugins

  I've found that some of my ASP.Net web apps prompt the browser to load plugins that I'm not explicitely using and certainly haven't deliberately referenced in the project settings. Two that come to mind are for MS MediaPlayer and the "SVG Viewer for Netscape". The only commonality I've determined so far is that the two sites/apps affected both use Master pages (nested in some cases). We don't use SVG file types (just the normal mix of jpg/gif/png) and no video/audio (not yet anyway). Can anyone provide a hint as to where the references for these might be creeping in? e.g. Is it a server-level include? Or a .Net runtime default when using master pages? Does anyone else even experience this, or is it just me? No urgency, I'd just like to remove it if possible. Thanks. Al

  Can anyone recomend me a simple web UI prototyping tool, so I could quicky prototype the look of a my web site. I have tried to use MS Visio for this, but found it very "user un-friendly". What I really need is to be able quicky sketch the layout of the page, put some links, images and buttons on in, play a little bit with a colors (CSS), and it would be great it this tool could support navigation between the pages - but it is not essential. I would rather consider a low-cost or an open-source solution, since I am not a web designer and not going to use that tool on a daily basis.

I have MS SQL Server stored procedure that returns XML (it uses SELECT with for xml auto, elements) I tried read it into DataTable: DataTable retTable = new DataTable(); SqlCommand comm = new SqlCommand("exec MySP", connection); SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter(comm); connection.Open(); da.Fill(retTable); but retTable contains 12 rows with separated full xml thar SQL Server returns. I thought I could do some self-joins to deal with this, but I am worried in the cases where the non-key fields have the same data in multiple rows.

For outputing MS and Open format, there is no problem, all work properly. But what I want to know is, if I can output something (like XML or HTML) which I can use after to build a PDF document? If I can't, are there any libraries which provide merge document like : DOCX (or ODT) + database record => PDF And I don't want use phplivedocx.

  I'm trying to create some application for Windows Phone = 7.1 During plannin my work and specyfiong technical requirements I've come across one problem. I wan't to have free application with basic functionality. And then it should be extendable with some non-free extensions (dlls?, databases?, SaaS?) Is it possible at the moment to use some MS api/app/etc. to be able to publish such extensions and sell them? What is the best way to do this if there is more than one solution? Simply, I want to save every exception on the web service for future use (bug tracing), so, where is the best place to save these exceptions? Is it good idea to save it in the database? • Hex characters in varchar() is actually ascii. Need to decode it.

  This is such an edge-case of a question, I'd be surprised if there is an easy way to do this. I have a MS SQL DB with a field of type varchar(255). It contains a hex string which is actually a Guid when you decode it using an ascii decoder. I know that sounds REALLY weird but here's an example: The contents of the field: "38353334373838622D393030302D343732392D383436622D383161336634396339663931" What it actually represents: "8534788b-9000-4729-846b-81a3f49c9f91" I need a way to decode this, and just change the contents of the field to the actual guid it represents. I need to do this in T-SQL, I cannot use .Net (which if I could, that is remarkably simple).

• Pin WPF window on the desktop in Windows 7

  I want to pin a WPF window on the desktop (it should be a desktop gadget). I know you can do this by setting the parent handle of the WPF window to the handle of the "progman" window. But this does not prevent the hiding of the WPF window when "Windows + D" is pressed. There must be another way do to this. The new desktop gadgets in Windows 7 are not hidden when "Windows + D" is pressed. How did the MS developers achieve this?

  Over at html syntax to display literal string i asked about displaying a literal. When i tried : http://sdrv.ms/1bEsPWz (as the posted sample will not display, i need to show a picture, as i don't have 10 xxx, i can't insert a picture, I am only left with a skydrive reference) In english, the and syntax was tried but it failed to show all content inside the block. It only showed the "is equal to - pre sample " part. I thought - did not care what was inside ? Can some explain how to make a truely literal block display ? I have my reasons why i don't want to have the " syntax in the html. Thanks
