• I cannot install a proporietary fglrx driver

  OK my install failed while installing the amd proprietary driver. I keep seeing references to a Nvidia driver, but I do not have or even want anything pertaining to Nvidia. • Juju bootstrap, install

  I would like to test MAAS + JUJU + OpenStack (I followed the documentation on maas.ubuntu.org) I already made a test environment: 1 MAAS server wich will also run JuJu 10 KVM servers for Openstack The KVM servers are already in "ready" state in MAAS. I would like to set up JuJu but i could not which is drives me crazy. My environments.yaml: environments: maassrv: type: maas maas-server: 'http://${192.168.1.116}/MAAS/' maas-oauth: 'my-key-from-maas' authorized-keys-path: /root/.ssh/id_rsa.pub admin-secret: 1234 default-series: trusty When I run "juju status -e maassrv` : ERROR Unable to connect to environment "maassrv". Please check your credentials or use 'juju bootstrap' to create a new environment. Error details: environment "maassrv" not found OK, it's right, so i should run juju bootstrap -e maassrv: ERROR environment "maassrv" not found When i run the command without the -e switch: error: no environment specified So, I am stuck here, I already added the required ssh keys to maas too. I ran out of ideas why it isn't working.

  A lot of torrent search engines have the ability to provide an RSS feed of matches, allowing you to set up torrent programs to download items which are published on the feed. This is useful for watching releases of things. The problem with doing this through a random search engine for Ubuntu is that you usually get too many torrents as it picks up different custom versions, and other software with the name in the title/description. • install Cirrus Logic cs46xx (audio card) drivers

  I have two sounds cards, one is the on-board (it's VIA) the other is Cirrus Logic cs46xx. This is what lspci shows me: 04:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24/30 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator] (rev 01) It only show the cirrus logic, cause I disable the VIA card through BIOS. This page: http://es.driverscollection.com/?file_id=13152 gives me instructions to install it, but I can follow them because the folders indicates in the page do not matches with the ones that I see in my system. The alsa page: http://alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Module-cs46xx, also give me instructions, but I don't understand it. For example, they say: type in a terminal: ./configure but don't say in what directory. I think that isn't instructions for begginers... Right now I can't heard anything. I decide to disable the VIA audio card, cause I've read they don't get along with linux, although i use the integrate VIA video card. I have ubuntu 11.10

• Bastion unexpectedly exits when I move my cursor

  I downloaded the Humble Indie Bundle V, mostly because my friend told me about how great Bastion was. When I first installed it, I was getting the seemingly common "black screen" error that most people got (fixed that half with this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11992661). But I also have an error where every time I move my cursor, in any direction, any amount, the game closes instantly. I can use the keyboard no problem, but without fail, every time I move my mouse, it crashes. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Has anyone encountered anything like this before? I am worried it may be a hardware issue, but hoping someone might be able to help me out. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 on a Dell Studio 1558. Graphics card is the stock Intel graphics card, running on 4 GB of RAM.

• Connect to new wireless network

  Wireless networking was working perfectly on my old adsl router. Then I moved to a new home that does not have adsl, and the router has been replaced with a new 3G one. I have worked through the following links: Connecting to a wireless network and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=571188 I have set the router from it's default WPA-PSK encryption to WEP encryption and also to No Encryption. But when I get to dhclient -wlan0, I keep getting No DHCPOFFERS received. Yet the 2 windows machines in my home connect fine to this wirelesss network (in all encryption settings). If I try iwlist scan I can see that the wireless network is indeed visible. Where do I start scratching to see where the problem may lie.

  just upgraded from Ubuntu 13.04 to Ubuntu 13.10, my Laptop is a Sony SVE1512c6ew, scrolling worked perfectly in Ubuntu 13.04, doesnt work at all in 13.10 Runs Ubuntu 13.10 64bits (btw, tested it i Windows 8 environment works there)Hardware OK, have seen a number of other users with the same problem, well for starters have followed the tip on using the dconf editor, following the path: org gnome settings-daemon peripherals touchpad boxed in all for sure... still cant get vertical scroll...... • Car engine sound simulation

  I have been thinking how to create realistic sound for a car. The main sound is the engine, then all kind of wind, road and suspension sounds. Are there any open source projects for the engine sound simulation? Simply pitching up the sample does not sound too great. The ideal would be to something that allows me to pick type of the engine (i.e. inline-4 vs v-8), add extras like turbo/supercharger whine and finally set the load and rpm. • Codestock: Apparently Powershell ain't got the power

  I checked on the status of voting on the Codestock (www.codestock.org) site this week. I was surpised to see that none of the Powershell sessions were among leaders in voting. Now, I confess that I am somewhat biased (my session is on Powershell), but that said, I thought it odd. I was under the impression that Powershell had a strong following and that many people were using it. I suppose the voting reflects a stronger developer community that might not make use of Powershell to degree some others might. I am a huge fan of Powershell and I am constantly impressed with the things it can do. In my case, I use it as lightweight functional testing harness for web pages. I use it in this capacity at work and for work I do for the Carbonated Comics (www.carbonatedcomics.com) site as well. If anyone still hasn't registered, do us a favor and vote for a Powershell session, K?

Tunneling refers to any abuse of HTTP that masks or misrepresents a message’s intent and undermines the protocol’s transparency. A REST API must not compromise its design by misusing HTTP’s request methods in an effort to accommodate clients with limited HTTP vocabulary. Always make proper use of the HTTP methods as specified by the rules in this section. • What is the justification for Python's power operator associating to the right?

  I am writing code to parse mathematical expression strings, and noticed that the order in which chained power operators are evaluated in Python differs from the order in Excel. From http://docs.python.org/reference/expressions.html: "Thus, in an unparenthesized sequence of power and unary operators, the operators are evaluated from right to left (this does not constrain the evaluation order for the operands): -1*2 results in -1."* This means that, in Python: 2**2**3 is evaluated as 2**(2**3) = 2**8 = 256 In Excel, it works the other way around: 2^2^3 is evaluated as (2^2)^3 = 4^3 = 64 I now have to choose an implementation for my own parser. The Excel order is easier to implement, as it mirrors the evaluation order of multiplication. I asked some people around the office what their gut feel was for the evaluation of 2^2^3 and got mixed responses. Does anybody know of any good reasons or conciderations in favour of the Python implementation? And if you don't have an answer, please comment with the result you get from gut feel - 64 or 256?

• Issue installing *gfortran*

  I am trying to installing gfortran on my ubuntu system and I am following the steps mentioned in http://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/GFortranBinaries32Linux , unfortunately one of the step in the installation steps to says Install using the following command: tar -xzvf gfortran-4.5-linux-i686.tar.gz -C / but the download link provides a .deb file which I have installed it. Now when I check for gfortran, it says not installed. Any clue? how should I follow the further? Steps I have completed are: 1) Installed libraries: GMP Library, MPFR Library, and MPC Library. 2)Downloaded the gfortran-4.6 Debian and installed using the cmd. sudo dpkg -i .deb anything else I need to do? do I need to create any path or symbolic link? please help,thanks! I need to give something like --enable-ecap option while installation, which i could not. • ~/.bashrc return can only 'return' from a function or sourced script

  I am trying to setup a OpenStack box to have a look at OpenStack Object Storage (Swift). Looking through the web I found this link; http://swift.openstack.org/development_saio.html#loopback-section I followed the instructions line by line but stuck on step 7 in the "Getting the code and setting up test environment" section. When I execute ~/.bashrc I get; line 6: return: can only 'return' from a function or sourced script. Below is the Line 6 extract from ~/.bashrc. My first reaction is to comment this line out, but I dont know what it does. Can anyone help? #If not running interactively, dont't do anything [ -z "$PS1" ] && return I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 as a VM on Hyper-v if knowing that is useful.

• Enable DreamScene in Any Version of Vista or Windows 7

  Windows DreamScene was a utility available for Vista Ultimate that allowed users to set video as desktop wallpaper. It was dropped in Windows 7, but we’ll take a look at how to play DreamScenes in all versions of Windows 7 or Vista. Downloading DreamScenes First, you’ll need to find some DreamScenes to download. We’ve found some nice ones at both DreamScene.org and DeviantArt. You can find those download links at the end of the article. They’ll come as compressed files, so you’ll need to extract them after downloading. Windows 7 DreamScene Activator If you are running Windows 7 you can use Windows 7 DreamScene Activator. This free portable utility enables DreamScene in both 32 & 64 bit versions of Windows 7. Users can then set either MPG or WMV files as desktop wallpaper. Download and extract the Windows 7 DreamScene Activator (link below). Once extracted, you’ll need to run the application as administrator. Right-click on the .exe and select Run as administrator. Click on Enable DreamScene. This will also restart Windows Explorer if it is open. To play your DreamScene, browse for the file in Windows Explorer, right-click the file and select Set as Desktop Background. Enjoy your new Windows 7 DreamScene.   Although it says it is for Windows 7 only, we were able to get it to work with no problems on Vista Home Premium x32 as well.   You can Pause the DreamScene at anytime by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Pause DreamScene.   When you are ready for a change, click Disable DreamScene and switch back to your previous wallpaper. Using VLC Media Player Users of all versions of Windows 7 & Vista can enable a DreamScene using VLC. Recently, we showed you how to set a video as your desktop wallpaper in VLC.  Since DreamScenes are in MPEG or WMV format, we will use the same tactic to display them as desktop wallpaper. We’ll just need to make a few additional tweaks to the VLC settings. You’ll need to download and install VLC media player if you don’t already have it. You can find the download link below. Next, select Tools > Preferences from the Menu. Select the Video button on the left and then choose DirectX video output from the Output dropdown list. Next, select All under Show Settings at the lower left, then select the Video button on the left pane. Uncheck Show media title on video. This will prevent VLC from constantly showing the title of the video on the screen each time the video loops. Click Save and the restart VLC.   Now we will add the video to our playlist and set it to continuously loop. Select View > Playlist from the Menu. Select the Add file button from the bottom of the Playlist window and select Add file.   Browse for your file and click Open.   Click the Loop button at the bottom so the video plays in a continuous loop.   Now, we’re ready to play the video. After the video starts playing, select Video > DirectX Wallpaper from the Menu, then minimize VLC.   If you’re using Aero Themes, you may get a pop-up warning and Windows will switch automatically to a basic theme.   If looping one video gets to be a little repetitive, you can add multiple videos to your playlist in VLC and loop the entire playlist. Just make sure you toggle the Loop button on the playlist window to Loop All. Now you’ve got a nice DreamScene playing on your desktop. Another cool trick you can do with VLC is take snapshots of favorite movie scenes and set them as backgrounds. When you’re ready to go back to your old wallpaper, maximize VLC, select Video and click DirectX Wallpaper again to turn it off the video background. Occasionally we were left with a black screen and had to manually change our wallpaper back to normal even after turning off the DirectX Wallpaper. Note: Keep in mind that using the VLC method takes up a lot of resources so if you try to run it on older hardware, or say a netbook, you’re not going to get good results. We also tried to use the VLC method in XP, but couldn’t get it to work. If you have leave a comment and let us know. While the DreamScene feature never really caught on in Vista, we find them to be a cool way to pump a little life into your desktop on any version of Vista or Windows 7. • Serve most of a domain with Apache, but use mod_proxy to serve some URLs from Lighttpd

  So we wish to host some pages on a new server with apache2, and embed some of our old content & functionality from another server with lighttpd in an iframe. I'm looking at this configuration from the apache docs (http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/vhosts/examples.html#page-header) under "Using Virtual_host and mod_proxy" together. <VirtualHost *:*> ProxyPreserveHost On ProxyPass / http://192.168.111.2/ ProxyPassReverse / http://192.168.111.2/ ServerName hostname.example.com </VirtualHost> The only issue is that I want to proxy only on a subdomain, or even better, if I can keep the top domain and proxy only if the url contains a particular path ie. "/myprocess.php". So in essence the DNS will point to the apache2 as the "master router".

• grub does not display activity during boot

• How to find a Window which should be visible on Ubuntu 14.04

  In Ubuntu 14.04 I have Keepass2 in my Launchbar. I do execute Keepass and I can see it is executing by a small arrow. With statement : ps - fu bernard | grep keepass2 Also with alt-tab I see Keepass. If I click on the Keepass icon still I am not switched to Keepass. The same happened to me with XAMPP from https://www.apachefriends.org so it seems a general Ubuntu 14.04 problem I execute this in Virtualbox client. If I switch sometimes to other VB client, when I come back the Windows is visible.
