  • Managing Team Development on Shared Website

    I need to know the best way to manage team web-development on a shared server (hostgator). I have done some individual web development on a shared server in the past, and I have always setup SVN through SSH to have a pretty-nice development workflow (version control, quick-commits, work though eclipse/subclipse, etc). However, I also know that with that setup, I had to make some pretty-sophisticated post-commit hooks to export the repository to /public_html; and, therefore, making the repository code testable. This seems like a tedious and error-prone setup for an entire team. I would like to be able to: Easily test the latest code in the repository. Somewhat easily move the code in the repository to production. Use an IDE like eclipse/subclipse to easily work with the repository. With this in mind, does anyone know of a good version-control/repository setup for developing a website with a team of about 4-5 people? Thanks a lot.

    I'm looking for a thin, generic layer (probably written in PHP) that sits between a database (probably MySQL) and web service clients (which could be anything). I imagine there would be config files of some sort that tell it how to map web service requests to database queries (or other DB commands). It would also need to handle authentication and authorization, of course. I've done some googling but failed to find anything that fits the bill. Can anyone suggest something like this?

  • How to control CSS class applied to ASP.NET 4 Menu with RenderingMode=List

    I am using an ASP.NET 4.0 Menu control with RenderingMode=List and am struggling with creating the appropriate CSS. Each menu item is represented by an <li tag that contains a nested <a tag with what appear to be fixed class names: <a class="level1" for unselected level 1 menu items <a class="level2" for unselected level 2 menu items <a class="level1 selected" for the selected level 1 menu item ... etc... What I want to do is to is to prevent the currently selected menu item from being "clickable". To do so I tried using: if (menuItem.Selected) menuItem.Selectable = false; This has the desired effect of removing the href attribute from the <a tag but also removes the class attribute - and as a result my CSS can not identify what level the menu item belongs to! Looks to me like a possible bug, but in any case I can't find any documentation describing what CSS class names are used, nor whether there is any way to control this (the old Style properties don't appear to have any effect). Ideally I would like to have "level" class attributes on the <li tags, not just the nested <a tags.

  • I've made something that might be useful to the community. Now what?

    If the specifics are important, I made a cruisecontrol.net publisher plugin that notifies a series of phone numbers via voice, announcing the current state of the build. It uses Twilio to do so. I'd like to avoid getting hung up on the specifics of what it is I've made, as I have this question a lot, with a number of little hobby one-offs. What's the state of the art as far as making my hobby output available to the world at large? There seem to be a lot of options for open-source project hosting, community features, and what role to take in all of this. It's a little bewildering. What I'm looking for is to put this out into the wild for free and basically take a hands-off approach from there. Is that realistic? Which project hosting service can I use for free to allow developers to at least download the code, report issues and collaborate with each other to improve the product? What snags have you run into that could make me regret this decision? I'm interested in war stories, advice and guidance on making this little product available to the community where it can be used.

  • ASP.Net Problem with Event Handlers and Control Creation Timing

    What I am trying to achieve here is to display a number of LinkButtons in a RadGrid Column. The buttons are generated from a collection property member of the bound grid row item. The CollectionLinkButton control is nothing more than a asp:Panel derived control that populates its Child Controls from "DataItem.SomeCollection" and this is working fine.   • Validation control issue

    Hello, I have a multiview that simulates a menu with different kind of options. Each view within the multiview control holds a bunch of controls (listbox, label, etc..) Everything worked just fine, until i wanted to implement Validation control(s). For example when i click on my menu viewA gets displayed with its controls. There i wish to implement a RequiredFieldValidator. But the problem is, if i click on a other menu option (which is in fact a other view in my multiview) then it gives the error message 'Please enter a message" which is the errorMessage of the first RequiredFieldValidator of the first menu option (first view). All my controls are named with a unique name, so there is no mixup amongst the ControlToValidate="" Offcourse this is not suitable, cause those menu choices are indepentant. And its not the intention i have to fill in everything, cause its a menu afterall, and not a form where i have to enter everything at once. How can i have a RequiredFieldValidator on my views that do not take each other in account?     I am trying to build a C# project (downloaded code) in Visual Studio Express 2008. I get the error (my translation): The type or namespace name "Allegro" couldn't be found. for the line using Allegro; I know the 2D graphics library Allegro, of course, but I can't find much information on how to use it in C#. It is being used for visualization in the project I am trying to compile. I also get the warning This reference couldn't be resolved. The Universal assembly couldn't be found. I haven't been working with C# before and and I barely know Visual Studio Express. These are newbie mistakes - but I just need a fast solution for this problem. Could someone provide me with a short step-by-step solution?

    I have a local git repository a "central" repo at github. I'm working on a part of a project, while a friend is working on a related piece that is its entirely seperate repo, is it possible for me to simply link directly to my friends repo? For example, the app is called widgets. I have all my code in widgets/app/mycode and my friend is writing code that goes into widgets/plugins/awesome/hiscode. I want to be able to always have http://github.com/mycode/widgets/plugins/hiscode to be a direct link or clone to http://github.com/hiscode/awesome ? It could be possible i'm missing something basic in my question or knowledge of git, if so please ask, and i'll be happy to try to fill in the blanks.

  • Cmake suddenly can't find my source files anymore...

    To make a long story short: To add insult to injury, CMake actually ran fine several times. I was wrestling with a compiler error when CMake suddenly didn't feel like working anymore.     Where does the object "MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP.4.0" come from? Which install package? I'm attempting to do the following: Set oXMLHTTP = CreateObject("MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP.4.0") This attempt fails on my development machine (no object is returned) but it is successful on my collage's development machine. Obviously he has something installed that I don't or vice versa but where does this object, dll, etc come from? What would I need to install to get this call to work. For the record, changing the object to a different version isn't an option because code that this depends on was tested for several days against this specific version. We'd have to go back and test again... To expand on this question, how can I tell which version of MS XML is currently installed?

  • openssl error wehn compiling Ruby from source

    Prelude: I don't want to use rvm. I installed ruby 2 with the following configuration on Mac OS X 10.8.5 ./configure --prefix=/usr/local \ --enable-pthread \ --with-readline-dir=/usr/local \ --enable-shared It is installed, version is printed correctly ... Now, when invoking gem install jekyll I get the following error: ERROR: Loading command: install (LoadError) cannot load such file -- openssl ERROR: While executing gem ... (NoMethodError) undefined method `invoke_with_build_args' for nil:NilClass I installed openssl into /usr/local but i'm really banging my head against the wall on how installing gems. It can't be that big of a deal right?

  • SMTP message rate control on Ubuntu 8.04, preferably with postfix

    Maybe I am chasing a bug but I am trying to set up a smtp proxy of sorts. I have a postfix server which receives all the email for a collection of servers/clients. It them uses a smarthost (relayhost=...) to forward it's mail to our corporate MTA. I would like to limit the number of messages an individual server can relay to prevent swamping the corporate MTA. Postfix has a program called "anvil" that is capable of tracking stats about mail to be used for such things but it doesn't seem to be executed. I ran "inotifywait -m /usr/lib/postfix/anvil" while I started postfix and sent a number of messages through it from a remote server. inotifywait indicated anvil was never run.   • Lenovo remote control media redirect

    On a lenovo ThinkServer RD240 running firmware 1.20 with the latest BNC software, using the remote console to redirect a CD-ROM fails with the error: "CD-ROM redirection is not supported on this platform". Similar error for forwarding an iso image, foppy and USB drive. I tried executing the management console from Ubuntu, Windows 7 and OS X with the exact same error. The question is: What platform does the jViewer console support any kind of media redirection?

  • Dynamic Control loading at wrong time?

    This one is a little... odd. Basically I have a form I'm building using ASP.NET Dynamic Data, which is going to utilize several custom field templates. I've just added another field to the FormView, with it's own custom template, and the form is loading that control twice for no apparent reason. Worse yet, the first time it loads the template, the Row is not ready yet and I get the error message: {"Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control."} I'm accessing the Row variable in a LinqDataSource OnSelected event in order to get the child object... Now for the wierd part: If I reorder the fields a little, the one causing the problem no longer gets loaded twice. Any thoughts? EDIT: I've noticed that Page_Load gets called on the first load (when Row throws an exception if you try to use it) but does NOT get called the second time around. If that helps any... Right now managing it by just catching and ignoring the exception, but still a little worried that things will break if I don't find the real cause. EDIT 2: I've traced the problem to using FindControl recursively to find other controls on the page. Apparently FindControl can cause the page lifecycle events (at least up to page_load) to fire... and this occurs before that page "should" be loading so it's dynamic data "stuff" isn't ready yet.
