• Do you use Phing?

  Does anyone use Phing to deploy PHP applications, and if so how do you use it? We currently have a hand-written "setup" script that we run whenever we deploy a new instance of our project. We just checkout from SVN and run it. It sets some basic configuration variables, installs or reloads the database, and generates a v-host for the site instance. I have often thought that maybe we should be using Phing. I haven't used ant much, so I don't have a real sense of what Phing is supposed to do other than script the copying of files from one place to another much as our setup script does. What are some more advanced uses that you can give examples of to help me understand why we would or would not want to integrate Phing into our process.

• Connect to Oracle 11g using VS2010.net Drivers/Cleints

  Hey all i am trying to redistribute my app that uses Oracle 11g: Imports Oracle.DataAccess.Client The problem i am having is that it will not run on a machine that doesnt seem to have the correct drivers that its looking for. When i install ODAC 11.2 Release 3 (11.2.0.2.1) with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio on the test VM it works just fine but thats a 230+mb file to download and install! Not to mention that if the user already has Oracle 10/11g on their machine that it may mess up their current connections/etc by installing that setup file. Is there another setup package that i can install that only has the Oracle Data Provider for .NET 2.0 11.2.0.2.0 or whatever its needing from that ODAC 11.2 Release 3 file. So any help about what i need to go about fixing this problem would be great! :) Thanks, David

• switching between one and two displays in visual studio

  Most of the time I work Visual Studio with two monitors. I setup my Visual Studio to sit nicely across both monitors with code on the one side and property windows etc. on the other. However, occasionally I need to remove into my work station from home where I only have one monitor. What ends up happening is I have to re-setup my entire workspace to be used on one monitor, and when I get back to my work station I have to undo this again to get to my optimal 2 monitor environment. Is there a way to save some set layouts in Visual Studio so I could quickly switch back and forward? Example: One Monitor Layout versus Two Monito Layout?

• Trying to use the "Use Specific Printer" option in Access 2007

  I am trying to set a report to use a specific printer. I go into design mode, click on the page setup ribbon, click the page setup bottun, go into the page tabt, click the option to choose a specific printer, and then click the printer button to choose the printer I want to use. I save the steps and exit out of the report, but it still goes back and prints from the default printer. Why? I had no problems with this feature in 2003, why am I having problems in 2007. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

  The other day I asked about using a UINavigationController as a child of a UIViewController. I got that working via the answer. Now what I'm trying to do is push a controller onto the nav stack. I make changes to the clone and commit (Not push). I make a bundle from the clone and pass the bundle to QA who has cloned the RELEASE repo. Now I try to apply the bundle to the RELEASE repo clone using hg unbundle I get an error, abort: error: ftp error: no host given What am I doing wrong? Can you give solution to the above problem keeping a Windows setup in mind?

• How do I dynamically import a module in App Engine?

  I'm trying to dynamically load a class from a specific module (called 'commands') and the code runs totally cool on my local setup running from a local Django server. This bombs out though when I deploy to Google App Engine. I've tried adding the commands module's parent module to the import as well with no avail (on either setup in that case). Here's the code: mod = __import__('commands.%s' % command, globals(), locals(), [command]) return getattr(mod, command) App Engine just throws an ImportError whenever it hits this. And the clarify, it doesn't bomb out on the commands module. If I have a command like 'commands.cat' it can't find 'cat'.

• What are my alternatives to manage Python packages for clients?

  So the setup is a slew of proprietary server/client Python applications running on one Linux box (the server) and a set of Windows 7 workstations (the clients). Everything is running smoothly until any of the proprietary Python packages needs updating. For now I am using distutils eggs which are very easily updated with easy_install, but it is still a manual process which quickly becomes tedious as the number of applications and client workstations grow. The ideal setup IMHO is to have the Python packages on the server so when a client application is launched on a workstation the client application can check to see whether its current Python packages are up-to-date. If not, the client application should download the newer Python package from the server, install it, and then launch as per normal. Does this sounds familiar to anyone? I have tried to find alternatives myself, but as far as I can see there is no Python module offering this functionality. Does anyone have any home made solutions for this?

• IB z-order on simulator 6.0

  Consider the above's IB objects listing. Siblings further down the list should be on top of the siblings listed further up when rendered on the screen. Under Xcode 4.5.2, everything is ok if iphone simulator 5.1 is used. But for simulator 6.0 the map just covers everything. The same if using actual devices (phones) for testing. Hope that somebody knowledgeable could help. Please also add comments if you do not find such a problem on simulator 6.0. Because chances are the problem is related to how my project is setup. Update : Have setup a test project with the iOS 6 map view. There seems to be no problem with the z-order. So the problem should relate to my code.

• Android - BaseGameUtil Complicated Import

  I've seen many topics in stackoverflow, such as Cannot import BaseGameUtils (Eclipse weirdness) and Android: cannot import BaseGameUtils successfully in Eclipse but none resolved my problem. I've followed https://developer.android.com/google/play-services/setup.html#Setup - the Add Google Play Services to Your Project [Using Eclipse with ADT], I THINK my project correctly references the google play services lib since up to that point nothing wrong happened. Then, following https://developers.google.com/games/services/android/quickstart, I've downloaded BaseGameUtils but when I import the two projects [TypeANumber & BaseGameUtil], they came named as main and MainActivity. I've renamed BaseGameUtil as so and have marked it as lib and imported it to my project through Properties Android Library, but I can't extend extend a class from BaseGameUtil because it's not even suggested. Also, I have not installed Android L and Android 4.4W from SDK Manager in Eclipse, altough I think that's no the case. Can anyone please help in this? Thanks so much in advance

• Co-opt popular abandonware opensource project? Thoughts?

  Here's the scenario: A popular open source project is used/loved by many but has become stale due to the fact that the last drop came out nearly a year ago. Many bugs/feature requests/fixes have been logged in the interim and everyone is getting by via downloading the trunk and building custom/private builds with the changes incorporated. The copyright is simple -- there is none and the code is in the public domain. The project owner spins the project as community open source and has setup a sourceforge site, but to date (5 years running now) has yet to accept one contributor. In otherwords the "community" is a community of one. The project owner takes great pride in the project and has obviously contributed a lot of time/effort but for whatever reason has has seemingly abandoned the project and is unresponsive when offers of help are made. So, the question, should the community fork the codebase, setup a new community site, and take matters in their own hands?

  I am building a .net application(xp, vista, 7) that will communicate with an embedded device. I will be able to connect via IP, serial port and modem. Question: Should I allow some type of open connection within my application that will allow me to connect to the device through some other channels that may be set up in the operating system just to allow future extensibility without really having to change anything on the device? I was just imagining that the operating system would be able to serve all communication channels that may be setup through the operating system to the device. Like would an admin setup some channel through SMTP or other protocol. I just didn’t want to box myself in and ignore some more open architecture. Thanks.

  I'm using Openbravo opensource PoS. It is possible to setup Openbravo PoS to apply a tax only after a certain amount? For example, if the total is less than or equal to $10 then there is no tax, but if the total is over $10 then a 8% tax is applied. Ie: the item costs $10 then the total is $10.   I found this question somewhat on the topic, but is there a way [in emacs] to set a minor mode (or a list thereof) based on extension? For example, it's pretty easy to find out that major modes can be manipulated like so (setq auto-mode-alist (cons '("\\.notes$" . text-mode) auto-mode-alist)) and what I'd ideally like to be able to do is (setq auto-minor-mode-alist (cons '("\\.notes$" . auto-fill-mode) auto-minor-mode-alist)) The accept answer of the linked question mentions hooks, specifically temp-buffer-setup-hook. To use this, you have to add a function to the hook like so (add-hook 'temp-buffer-setup-hook 'my-func-to-set-minor-mode) My question is two-fold: Is there an easier way to do this, similar to major modes? If not, how would one write the function for the hook? It needs to check the file path against a regular expression. If it matches, activate the desired mode (e.g. auto-fill-mode).

  Hi, In short: is there a way to compile and run single file in NetBeans or Visual Studio without having to setup and tinker with projects? I'm currently using code::blocks as my IDE. It's fast and very simple: perfect for my needs as a begginner. I wanted to dive a little deeper and try out a more advanced IDE such as NetBeans or Visual Studio.   We are a university IT organization that hosts all of the university's websites on several shared servers on our server room floor. We have several VMs, each running its own instance of Apache as a web server for each respective server. If we were going to setup a memcached server, is it feasible to use it as a shared instance? If shared by several servers, or even multiple web apps running on the same server, what's the best way to keep each app's cache stores separate? Prefix the key? Would each VM require its own instance of memcached, or could we setup 1 memcached server and allow our multiple VMs to read/write to it?

  I'm wanting to store items in my database with a DATE value for a certain day. I don't know how to get the current Monday, or Tuesday, etc. from the current week. Here is my current database setup. menuentry id int(10) PK menu_item_id int(10) FK day_of_week date message varchar(255) So I have a class setup that holds all the info then I was going to do something like this... foreach ( $menuEntryArray as $item ) { if ( $item->getDate() == [DONT KNOW WHAT TO PUT HERE] ) { // code to display menu_item information } } So I'm just unsure what to put in "[DONT KNOW WHAT TO PUT HERE]" to compare to see if the date is specified for this week's Monday, or Tuesday, etc. The foreach above runs for each day of the week - so it'll look like this... Monday Item 1 Item 2 Item 3 Tuesday Item 1 Wednesday Item 1 Item 2 ... Thanks!
