• How do you redirect https to http

  that is, the opposite of what (seemingly) everyone teaches. I have a server on https for which I paid an SSL cert for and a mirror for which I haven't and keep around for just for emergencies so it doesn't merit getting a cert for. On my client's desktops I have SOME shortcuts which point to http://production_server and https://productionserver (both work), however; I know that if my prod. server goes down, then DNS forwarding kicks in and those clients which have https on their shortcut will be staring at https://mirrorserver (Which doesnt work) and a big fat IE7 red screen of uneasyness for my company. Unfortunately, I can't just switch this around at the client level. These users are very computer illiterate: and are very likely to freak out from seeing https "insecurity" errors (specially the way FFX3 and IE7 handle it nowadays: FULL STOP, kinda thankfully, but not helping me here LOL). It's very easy to find apache solutions for http-https redirection, but for the life of me I can't do the opposite. Ideas? Cheers, /mp

• Large number array compression

  Hi All, I've got a javascript application that sends a large amount of numerical data down the wire. This data is then stored in a database. I am having size issues (too much bandwidth, database getting too big). I am now ready to sacrifice some performance for compression. I was thinking of implementing a base 62 number.toString(62) and parseInt(compressed, 62). This would certainly reduce the size of the data but before I go ahead and do this I thought I would put it to the folks here as I know there must be some outside the box solution I have not considered. The basic specs are: - Compress large number arrays into strings for JSONP transfer (So I think UTF is out) - Be relatively fast, look I'm not expecting same performance as I have now but I also don't want gzip compression either. • Using SharePoint user profiles to build a company phone directory

  I'm working on a Sharepoint 2007 (MOSS Std) intranet implementation right now, and one of the things we'd like to do is replace the manually-maintained phone directory with the profile information we're importing from AD. People search is great, but I want to have a big page with all the names and phone numbers of the 150 or so people that work at the company (which means using the People Search webpart with a query hard-coded to return everyone won't work). A few quick searches haven't turned up anything, but this seems like a really common request. Can anyone help me out? I'm not opposed to buying a reasonably-priced webpart to solve this or writing some custom code, but both seem like they shouldn't be required for such a simple request.

• WinForms Application Hangs

  Hi, I have an application (ABC) that I developed and it as a windows application (.exe). It is by itself quite a big application referring a lot of dll's. However, now there is a requirement that demands that this application(ABC) be a part of an even larger application (XYZ). Hence, I had to change the project type of "ABC" from being a windows application to a class library, and by changing a few lines of code. My problem is that, ever since I started using ABC as part of XYZ, the application started hanging if I dint perform any operation on it for 10 to 15 mins... I do not have any problems while running it as a separate application. Any reasons why this might occur? Any suggestions would be really appreciated... Thanks, Ram

• How to retrieve path for a file embedded in Resources (Resource Manager) - .net C#

  Hi, I am trying to retrieve file path for a html file that is embedded in resource (resx file) in VS2008 C# project. I want to give path of this file to native webbrowser control (PIEHtml) to be able to navigate (DTM_NAVIGATE) in my application. I know I can pass the string to this control using DTM_ADDTEXTW but since html text size is so big, I dont want to pass string to the control. I need to somehow extract the file path for this html file embedded inside resource manager. I tried using but this does not give the file path of html inside assembly: private ResourceManager resManager = new ResourceManager("AppName.FolderName.FileName", System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()); this.lbl.Text = resManager.GetString("StringInResources"); and also read Retrieving Resources in Satellite Assemblies but it did not solve my problem. • Execute PHP without leaving page

  Okay. I have a form - textarea (named "su") and submit button. When the form is submitted, I need to run a PHP script without refreshing/leaving page "echo" or somehow print a return on the screen I'm pretty sure this works via some kind of ajax request thing. but I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm not big on ajax or javascript, but this is a function i use very frequently and I'd like to learn how it works so I can implement it when i need to now and in the future. Like i said I'm uneducated with ajax or java. a quick example would be wonderful. thanks for taking the time to read!

• Teaching coworkers LINQ...

  I have set myself upon a journey to educate my coworkers (all have accepted my mission, even the boss). Every day I seem to find a piece of code that could have been less error prone if my coworkers knew more about the framework, better-know-framework (in courtesy of DNR ;)) is part two of my teaching process. First part is teaching my coworkers about LINQ, what it can do for them and how it is written. My big question is where are all the good basic resources for LINQ education, everything if find is tightly coupled to Linq2Sql or all other sorts of material. Neither have I been able to find a tutorial for the actual linq syntax (except a specification of it all). (I hope this haven't been asked before but if it has please say so, cause then my searching skills have failed ;) )

• Multi page ordering form php or ajax

  I'm looking to create a multi page ordering form the first page would contain some dropdown and text fields, the second page would contain more text fields, the third page would be an order summery with paypal payment option. I'm just wondering what the best way to create this order form is. I've used sessions in the past but never with users entering in text and picking items from drop downs, does anyone have any resources for doing this? Or does anyone know of a jquery or other ajax example or plugin I might be able to use and modify. any insight would be a big help. thanks

• Switch to 64 bit or stay at 32 bit?

  I have a small office, and I currently use a Visual Foxpro Application that I wrote to handle all the data. It is time to buy a new server. It seems that there are problems with VFP and 64 bit operating system. Should I make the move to 64 bit and try to deal with the problems that arise, or buy a new server running the older 32 bit acrhitecture? The latter would of course require that I use Exchange 2003 instead of 2007 or 2008. Probably no big deal?

Inside my first UITableViewController I push an UIViewController that contains an UITabBarController: [[self navigationController] pushViewController:itemVC animated:YES]; Inside the UITabBarController I add an UITableViewController: ISSTableViewController *graphics = (ISSTableViewController *)[tabBarController.viewControllers objectAtIndex:3]; Inside the didSelectRowAtIndexPath I present a Modal View Controller using a UINavigationController: GraficoViewController *graph = [[GraficoViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"GraficoViewController" bundle:nil]; UINavigationController *navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:graph]; [self presentModalViewController:navigationController animated:YES]; [navigationController release]; Now the (BIG) question is: I have to hide the NagivationBar of my first UITableViewController inside my last view.   Hi everyone, i'm trying to realize non-editable QTableView with widgets in cells that should contain clickable listed text. With following code i'm setting widget in definite cell: view = QTableView() label = QLabel( <some html text> ) ... view.setIndexWidget(index, label) I used html to make label's text clickable, but links became blue with underline and moreover by clicking on it with right mouse button appears popup menu with "Copy Link Locaion" option, where i wanted to place some hidden information instead of url and of course do not let user see this info. I'm looking for light-weight widget, i thought that insertion of QGraphicsView in each cell will lead to big computer loads, but can't think of any other solution. Can you advice what should i use for this purpose? Thank you in advance Serge

• How can I enjoy or avoid designing every web application I make ?

  I know this sounds silly, but I'm having huge problems (ok, not that huge, but still...) problems when I get an idea for a web project, small or big. The instant turn off is when I remember that I have to code the html/css by hand again and again. I like programming a lot more that designing web sites, and I simply don't enjoy designing them as much as I enjoy programming them. With that said, I also prefer simple and minimalistic designs. What is your approach in web design, how do you make it enjoyable (at least a little bit)?

• use ngen and bundle .NET dlls to run application in .NET-less machine?

  AFAIK, ngen turns MSIL into native code (also reffered to as pre-JIT), however I never payed too much attention at it's startup performance impact. Ngen'd applications still require the .NET base class libraries (the runtime). Since the base class libraries have everything our .NET assemblies need (correct?) would it be possible to ship the framework's DLLs with my ngen'd application so that it does not require the runtime to be installed? (e.g., the scenario for most Windows XP machines) Oh, and please don't bother mentioning Remotesoft's Salamander Linker or Xenocode's Postbuild. They are not for my (and many's) current budget (and they seem to simply bundle the framework in a virtualized enviroinment, which means big download sizes and slow startup times I believe)

• Git under windows: MSYS or Cygwin?

  I plan to migrate my projects over to git, and I'm currently wondering which is the best and / or most stable option under windows. From what I gather I basically have 2.5 options: MSYSgit git under Cygwin (aka 2.5) MSYSgit from a Cygwin prompt (given that Cygwin git is already installed). Note: IMO Cygwin in itself is a big plus as you can have access to pretty much all the *nix command line tools, as where with MSYSgit bash, you only have access to a rather small subset of these tools. Given that, what option would you suggest?

• Can I use ido-completing-read instead of completing-read everywhere?

  I'm a big fan of ido-mode, so much so that I would like to use it for things like describe-function or find-tag and so on, without having to write something like in "Can I get ido-mode-style completion for searching tags in Emacs?" for each one. Both (defalias completing-read ido-completing-read) and (setf 'completing-read 'ido-completing-read) don't work, at least partly because ido-completing-read calls completing-read in its body, so any simple redefinition would result in infinite recursion. In theory, it should be possible, since the first line of the docstring for ido-completing-read is "Ido replacement for the built-in completing-read." I've looked around a bit and can't seem to find anyone else who has attempted or succeeded at it. I realize that Icicles [2] probably provides something like this, and I may end up going with that anyway, but it is a bit more of a plunge than I care to take right now. Thanks for any help.

  To find an Assembly programmer is very hard to help me I'm a established Delphi programmer that has an old copy of Delphi that is not .net And I have a *.dll that I'm converting into Delphi code for .net I'm on a big learning curve hear as i know little of .net yet. I've just got a computer with .net today!!!!!! I've run the *.dll through a dissembler and started putting jump links in as writing in Delphi assembly you do not do any addressing, just reference links. The file has fixed string structures (i think C++) ASCII & ANSI strings 1/ I do not know how to identify how the code references these structures 2/ and I do not know were the functions begin and what shape they look like The code is free for any one to look at their is not many functions in it. but I have to email it as stack over flow will not allow me to display it. • Should we seal Singletons? Should we try to inherit from Singletons in the first place?

  Should a Singleton class be allowed to have children? Should we seal it? What are the pro's and con's? For being able to inherit from a Singleton class, we would have to make the constructor protected instead of private. Now, that will be fine in c#, but the protected word in java gives both child-classes and package-classes access to the constructor. Which means not only classes that inherit from our Singleton can access the constructor but other classes in the same package can do it. I'm a bit confused about all this facts. Maybe I am making a big fuss about nothing to worry about too much? Until now, I never had any necessity of trying to inherit from a Singleton, so maybe this is just an academic question! Thanks

• Visual Studio 2008/2010 & SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7 Home Premium

  Are there any limitations with respect to developing ASP.NET and WPF apps using VS 2008/2010 and SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7 Home Premium? I know you can run IIS 7.5 on Home Premium. I Googled and Binged on Home Premium and VS/SQL Server and couldn't find much. It doesn't look like the features missing from Home Premium, domain joining, xp mode, etc... shouldn't prevent one from running and developing in VS/SQL Server. Update I did discover one limitation w/IIS 7.5 and it applies to all versions of Windows 7 I think. You can't create your own self signed SSL certificate specifying a name other than the machine name. You're stuck with your machine name which isn't that big a deal, but it is a change from previous versions.

• How do I make a google larger by scale

  I've just started using google charts and want to use it in a small project I'm workin on but I've bumped into a problem. The thing is I want the charts rather big at a static size and look good but I'm generating the charts dynamically with php. Now the problem is that I can't get it to scale properly in width but height is perfectly fine. Here's an example chart I've generated: Parameters: cht=bvo&chs=400x400 chd=t:1,4,1 chxr=2,0,4,1 chds=0,4 chco=4d89f9 chxt=x,x,y,y chxl=0:|3|7|26|1:|Correct+answers|3:|People You see how the chart fills the 400px of height but not the width. I've searched and look through the api but I can't get it right.

• Self Assessment Tests for Programmers

  I want to help the Dev team identify areas of knowledge (practical and theoretical) that they can work on. Though I am big believer in focusing on people's strengths being a good programmer requires (I think) being challenged by concepts and ideas that don't always come naturally. We work largely in the web app space using PHP & MySQL but better skills in data modelling, query optimisation, use of MVC and OOP etc. would help the team and the company a lot. I want to help the Dev team manage their careers, explore and expand their skills sets. Be all they can be and better than they were previously. I know its an idealistic goal but work must be about more than simply getting the work done. There should be some time to review, to learn, to grow and get better. Any thoughts, ideas, opinions and directions to tests or similar resources would be greatly appreciated.

• ASP.NET Validator Controls Slowing Down Page

  Hi all, I have an UpdatePanel that has user controls dynamically added to it. There can be a few dozen user controls at times. The page / UpdatePanel slows down big time on each postback as more user controls are added. After some digging, I was surprised to find the cause is the various CompareValidator, CustomValidator, RegularExpressionValidator and RequiredFieldValidator controls that exist on each user control. Dose anyone have suggestions? It strikes me as very peculiar that inclusion of these ASP.NET controls could have such a horrible effect on performance. Thanks, Calvin

• how to read a User uploaded file, without saving it to the database

  I'd like to be able to read an XML file uploaded by the user (less than 100kb), but not have to first save that file to the database. I don't need that file past the current action (its contents get parsed and added to the database; however, parsing the file is not the problem). Since local files can be read with: File.read("export.opml") I thought about just creating a file_field for :uploaded_file, then trying to read it with File.read(params[:uploaded_file]) but all that does is throw a TypeError (can't convert HashWithIndifferentAccess into String). I really have tried a lot of various things (including reading from the /tmp directory as well), but could get none of them to work. I hope the brevity of my question doesn't mask the effort I've given to try to solve this on my own, but I didn't want to pollute this question with a hundred ways of how NOT to get it done. Big thanks to anyone who chimes in.

• Bounce Email handling with PHP??

  I am really new to this (not new to php). Here is my scenario: I have 2 emails accounts. [email protected] and [email protected]. I want to send email to all my users with [email protected] but then "reply to" [email protected] (until here, my php script can handle it). When, the email cant be sent, it sent to [email protected], the error message could be 553 (non existent email ...) etc. My question is: How do I direct all those bounce emails (couldn't sent emails) to [email protected] through a handling script to check for the bounce error codes? What programming language should I be for the "handling script"? What would the "handling script" looks like? Can give a sample? OR:(Big Question) What are the procedures I should follow to handle the bounce email ??

  Your thoughts on this? I'm hearing more and more people saying things like: "Is it html 5 compatible" "Can I make my website html 5" "Other html 5 question here..." What do you guys think? Is html5 the new buzzword? Obviously, it's more than a fad. It is the way things are going. But it seems like it's catching on in the mainstream. • UIImages on UITableView?

  what is the best method to display about 300 png images into a UITableView.. i dont wanna display them at the same time... i have 3 tableViewControllers that will each display about 100 imgaes.. (its for a catalog so the images are important to display) i used [uiimage imageNamed:] but that method caches the images and they dont get released so the memory usage is big.... is there any way to release the cache when the nav controller pushes a different view controller? i also tried [uiimage alloc] initWithContentsOfFile] but the images wont display.... any help?
