  • Is it a good object-oriented-design practice to send a pointer to private data to another class?

    Hello everyone, There is well known recommendation not to include into class interface method that returns a pointer (or a reference) to private data of the class. But what do you think about public method of a class that sends to another class a pointer to the private data of the first one. For example: class A { public: void fA(void) {_b.fB(&_var)}; private: B _b; int _var; }; I think that it is some sort of data hiding damage: the private data define state of their own class, so why should one class delegate changes of its own state to another one?     I have the following problem with an EJB 2 SessionBean when deploying in JBoss 5: The SessionBean (called LVSKeepAliveDispatcher) requires a specific user role (called "LVSUser"), specified by <method-permission > <description></description> <role-name>LVSUser</role-name> <method > <description></description> <ejb-name>LVSKeepAliveDispatcher</ejb-name> <method-name>*</method-name> </method> </method-permission> in ejb-jar.xml. I now want to access this SessionBean from a Service (i.e. a class implementing the org.jboss.varia.scheduler.Schedulable interface that is then registered as a service) running inside the same JBoss instance. This worked fine in JBoss 3.2.7. Edit: My current workaround for this problem: create a new container configuration in jboss.xml and remove the security interceptor stuff from this configuration use this newly created container configuration for all my session beans that I only use locally (i.e. via local interface).

  • How can I pass FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie from Data Access Layer Class to WebService to Javas

    I am using DotNetOpenAuth in my ASP.Net Website. I have modified it to work with Facebook Connect as well, using the same methods and database structures. Now I have come across a problem. I have added a Facebook Connect button to a login page. From that HTML button, I have to somehow pull information from the Facebook Connect connection and pass it into a method to authenticate the user. The way I am currently doing this is by: Calling a Javascript Function on the onlogin function of the FBML/HTML Facebook Connect button. The javascript function calls a Web service to login, which it does correctly. The web service calls my data access layer to login. And here is the problem: FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie is set at the data access layer. The Cookie is beyond the scope of the user's page and therefore is not set in the browser. This means that the user is authenticated, but the user's browser is never notified. So, I need to figure out if this is a bad way of doing what I need or if there is a better way to accomplish what I need. I am just not sure and have been trying to find answers for hours. Any help you have would be great.

  • Implementing Security on custom BCS/.net class?

    I'm implementing a custom BCS Model to get data from a backend system. As the backend uses it's own user management, I'm accessing it through a service account. All of this works well and allows me to pull data into SharePoint. However because it's channeled through the service account, everyone can access it, which is bad. Can anyone give me some tips which method to implement? The backend does not give me NT ACLs, but I wonder if I could just "fake" them somehow? (Essentially saying "This NT Group has Read Access" is good enough). I am aware of ISecurityTrimmer2 for Search Results, but ideally I want to cover security inside the BCS Model so that it applies to external lists as well. I want to avoid using Secure storage and mapping each individual user to the backend.

    Hi, When I try to set the header properties on a WebRequest object, I get the following exception This header must be modified using the appropriate property I've tried modifying the .Headers propery and adding them that way like so webRequest.Headers.Add(HttpRequestHeader.Referer, "http://stackoverflow.com"); But still getting exceptions. I can get around this by casting the WebRequest object to a HttpWebRequest and setting the properties such as httpWebReq.Referer ="http://stackoverflow.com" But I'd like to know if there's a way to get a finer grained control over modifying headers with a request for a remote resource.     Hello, focused items == selected items but selected items != focused items. Have you ever wondered about that? Do you specially style the backcolor of a focused/selected item ? I ask this question because a user has an enabled button because some customer items are selected. The user is wondering now "why the heck can I delete this customers (button is enabled...) when I have just clicked on the orders control selecting some orders ready to delete (button is enabled too). The thing is the selected customer items are nearly looking grayed out in the default style... Well its sort of inconsistence to the user NOT to the programmer because WE know the behavior. Do you cope with stuff like that?

"System.Runtime.Serialization.InvalidDataContractException: Type 'BarProxybcb100e8617f40ceaa832fe4bb94533c' cannot be ISerializable and have DataContractAttribute attribute." If I take out the Serializable attribute, the WCF service works, but when the object can't be serialized to session. If I remove the DataContract attribute from class Bar, the WCF service fails saying Type 'BarProxy3bb05a31167f4ba492909ec941a54533' with data contract name 'BarProxy3bb05a31167f4ba492909ec941a54533:http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07/' is not expected. Add any types not known statically to the list of known types - for example, by using the KnownTypeAttribute attribute or by adding them to the list of known types passed to DataContractSerializer I've tried adding a KnownType attribute to the foo class [KnownType(typeof(Bar))] But I still get the same error.   • Sysdeo Tomcat DevLoader - Hot deploy of java class causes whole application to restart

    Hi, I am using sysdeo tomcat plugin 3.2.1 with eclipse 3.5.1 (Galileo) and tomcat 5.5.23 on windows XP. I can get tomcat plugin working in eclipse, and have extracted devloader.zip into [tomcat]\server\classes. I have also updated the context and now it has this entry: <Context path="/myapp1" reloadable="true" docBase="F:\Work\eclipse_workspace\myapp1" workDir="F:\Work\eclipse_workspace\myapp1\work" > <Logger className="org.apache.catalina.logger.SystemOutLogger" verbosity="4" timestamp="true"/> <Loader className="org.apache.catalina.loader.DevLoader" reloadable="true" debug="1" useSystemClassLoaderAsParent="false" /> </Context> I have activated devloader (in Project Properties Tomcat Devloader Classpath) and have 'checked' all my classes and jars, I haven't 'checked' commons-loggin.jar jsp-api.jar, servlet-api.jar. So on launching tomcat via the plugin, I can get it running with devloader as shown in eclipse console view [DevLoader] Starting DevLoader [DevLoader] projectdir=F:\Work\eclipse_workspace\myapp1 [DevLoader] added file:/F:/Work/eclipse_workspace/myapp1/WEB-INF/classes/ [DevLoader] added file:/F:/Work/eclipse_workspace/myapp1/WEB-INF/lib/activation.jar However, if I even add a single System.out.println into any java file and save it, the whole application gets reloaded (takes ~80 sec) which is as good as stopping/starting tomcat itself. I've tried adding -Xdebug in JAVA_OPTS in the catalina.bat but no luck :( Can you please guide where I may be doing it wrong.. Please note that I can 'redeploy' the whole application on tomcat but that's not what I need, I am looking to be able to make small changes in java classes 'on-the-fly' while coding/debugging without having to wait for complete app restart. Another annoyance is that restarting tomcat/application causes the session/debug progress to be lost.. Can you please guide me how to go about it. PS: I am not using any ant/maven scripts explicitly, just relying on eclipse to do the build for me (which it does).

  • C++ from SpeakHere in iPhone app

    Hi guys, I've made a template app where I've grabbed the recording part of the SpeakHere example and removed the file handling part, but I'm struggeling to get the C++ part of the app working right. As soon as it enters the C++ class, it gets syntax errors. If I don't import the header files from C++ (and then of course don't use the code) into my Objective C classes, all works fine. I cannot see the difference between how I'm doing it and the example is doing it. Can you see the difference? How should I use it in a way that all activity gets recorder by TextWriterTraceListener to a text file. Is one static member which all threads use (by calling) TraceEvent-method safe. (I've kind of asked this question in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1901086/how-to-instantiate-c-tracesources-to-log-multithreaded-asp-net-2-0-web-applica, but I cannot just believe if somebody just says it's OK despite the documentation).

You'll need that for the next step. It would be a bonus if I could get an automated model based on all the objects called to completely load a single ASP.Net page, with relationships indicating which objects are calling out to which other ones, etc. Thanks for sharing your thoughts or recomendations.
