• finding a string of random characters (with possible errors) within a large string of random charact

  I am trying to search a large string w/o spaces for a smaller string of characters. using regex I can easily find perfect matches but I can't figure out how to find partial matches. by partial matches i mean one or two extra characters in the string or one or two characters that have been changed, or one of each. the first and last characters will always match though. this would be similar to a spell checker but there are no spaces and the strings dont contain actual words, just random hex digits. i figured a way to find the string if there are no extra characters using indexOf(string.charAt(0)) and indexOf(charAt(string.length()-1) and looping through the characters between the two indexes. but this can be problematic when dealing with randomized characters because of the possibility of finding the first and last characters at the correct spacing but none of the middle characters matching. i've been scratching my head for hours on this issue. any ideas?

  I'm in the process of writing a python module that includes some samples. These samples aren't unit-tests, and they are too long and complex to be doctests. I'm interested in best practices for automatically checking that these samples run. My current project layout is pretty standard, except that there is an extra top level makefile that has build, install, unittest, coverage and profile targets, that delegate responsibility to setup.py and nose as required. projectname/ Makefile README setup.py samples/ foo-sample foobar-sample projectname/ __init__.py foo.py bar.py tests/ test-foo.py test-bar.py I've considered adding a sampletest module, or adding nose.tools.istest decorators to the entry-point functions of the samples, but for a small number of samples, these solutions sound a bit ugly.   I have a table defined like this: Column: Version Message Type: varchar(20) varchar(100) ---------------------------------- Row 1: 2.2.6 Message 1 Row 2: 2.2.7 Message 2 Row 3: 2.2.12 Message 3 Row 4: 2.3.9 Message 4 Row 5: 2.3.15 Message 5 I want to write a T-Sql query that will get message for the MAX version number, where the "Version" column represents a software version number. I.e., 2.2.12 is greater than 2.2.7, and 2.3.15 is greater than 2.3.9, etc. Unfortunately, I can't think of an easy way to do that without using CHARINDEX or some complicated other split-like logic. Running this query: SELECT MAX(Version) FROM my_table will yield the erroneous result: 2.3.9 When it should really be 2.3.15. Any bright ideas that don't get too complex?

  Hello, HTML5 draft contains an API called EventSource to stream data (notifications) trough javascript using only one server call. • Tokenizing Twitter Posts in Lucene

  Hello, My question in a nutshell: Does anyone know of a TwitterAnalyzer or TwitterTokenizer for Lucene? More detailed version: I want to index a number of tweets in Lucene and keep the terms like @user or #hashtag intact. StandardTokenizer does not work because it discards the punctuation (but it does other useful stuff like keeping domain names, email addresses or recognizing acronyms). How can I have an analyzer which does everything StandardTokenizer does but does not touch terms like @user and #hashtag? My current solution is to preprocess the tweet text before feeding it into the analyzer and replace the characters by other alphanumeric strings. For example, String newText = newText.replaceAll("#", "hashtag"); newText = newText.replaceAll("@", "addresstag"); Unfortunately this method breaks legitimate email addresses but I can live with that.   I'm running the following code on a list of strings to return a list of its words: words = [re.split('\\s+', line) for line in lines] However, I end up getting something like: [['import', 're', ''], ['', ''], ['def', 'word_count(filename):', ''], ...] As opposed to the desired: ['import', 're', '', '', '', 'def', 'word_count(filename):', '', ...] How can I unpack the lists re.split('\\s+', line) produces in the above list comprehension? Naïvely, I tried using * but that doesn't work. (I'm looking for a simple and Pythonic way of doing; I was tempted to write a function but I'm sure the language accommodates for this issue.)

• Tips for resolving Hibernate/JPA EntityNotFoundException

  I'm running into a problem with Hibernate where when trying to delete a group of Entities I encounter the following error: javax.persistence.EntityNotFoundException: deleted entity passed to persist: [com.locuslive.odyssey.entity.FreightInvoiceLine#<null>] These are not normally so difficult to track down as they are usually caused by an entity being deleted but not being removed from a Collection that it is a member of. In this case I have removed the entity from every list that I can think of (it's a complex datamodel). I've put JBoss logging into Trace and I can see the collections that are being cascaded. However I can't seem to find the Collection containing the entity that I'm deleting. Does anyone have any tips for resolving this particular Exception? Thanks.

  I would like to define and initialize some variables in web.xml and the access the values of these variables inside my Java application. The reason I want to do this is because I would like to be able to change the values of these variables without having to recompile the code. What is the best practice for doing this? • Best way to produce automated exports in tab-delimited form from Teradata?

  I would like to be able to produce a file by running a command or batch which basically exports a table or view (SELECT * FROM tbl), in text form (default conversions to text for dates, numbers, etc are fine), tab-delimited, with NULLs being converted to empty field (i.e. a NULL colum would have no space between tab characters, with appropriate line termination (CRLF or Windows), preferably also with column headings. This is the same export I can get in SQL Assistant 12.0, but choosing the export option, using tab delimiter, setting my NULL value to '' and including column headings. I have been unable to find the right combination of options - the closest I have gotten is by building a single column with CAST and '09'XC, but the rows still have a leading 2-byte length indicator in most settings I have tried. I would prefer not to have to build large strings for the various different tables.

  Hi, Rather than allowing a Ruby method to blindly return the last statement evaluated, is there any advantage to returning nil explicitly? In terms of implementation hiding and reuse, it seems dangerous to blindly allow the last expression evaluated to be returned - isn't there a danger that a user will rely on this only to get a nasty surprise when the implementation is modified? Surely returning nil would be better unless an explicit return value was given. Following on, is there an optimisation that Ruby can make when the return is a simple type rather than a reference to a more complex object? Chris

• Objective-c string appending causes exception

  Hello Everyone, The following code is causing me some problems. The third line causes a program crash... it doesn't happen the first time I step through but somehow later on in the program. If I comment out that third line, the program runs smoothly. NSString *myRequestString = @"text"; int i = 1; myRequestString = [myRequestString stringByAppendingString:[NSString stringWithFormat: @"t=%d", i]]; That code causes this exception: * -[CFString release]: message sent to deallocated instance 0xb4c43fe0 On a side note, can anyone tell me how to concatenate strings in objective-c like any other normal language... I can't believe that there is no concatenation operator. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Make sure "MessagesResource.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "App_Web_eerdggo8" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed. How can i fix this issue????

• When is calculating or variable-reading faster?

  hi, to be honest, I don't really know what the "small green men" in my cpu and compiler do, so I sometimes would like to know :). Currently I would like to know what's faster, so that I can design my code in a more efficient way. So for example I want to calclate something at different points in my sourcecode, when will it be faster to calculate it once and store it in a variable that's read and used for the next points it's needed and when is it faster to calculate it everytime? I think it's depending on how "complex" and "long" the calculation is and how fast then cache is, where variables are stored, but I don't have any clue what's faster :). Thanks for any reply to my tiny but important question! Andreas PS: perhaps it's important to know that I code in JAVA, but it's more a genral question.

• Best practices for fixed-width processing in .NET

  I'm working a .NET web service that will be processing a text file with a relatively long, multilevel record format. Each record in the file represents a different entity; the record contains multiple sub-types. (The same record format is currently being processed by a COBOL job, if that gives you a better picture of what we're looking at). I've created a class structure (a DATA DIVISION if you will) to hold the input data. My question is, what best practices have you found for processing large, complex fixed-width files in .NET? My general approach will be to read the entire line into a string and then parse the data from the string into the classes I've created. But I'm not sure whether I'll get better results working with the characters in the string as an array, or with the string itself. I guess that's the specific question, string vs. char[], but I would appreciate any other pointers anyone has. Thanks.

• HTMLAgilityPack ChildNodes index works, named node does not

  I am parsing an XML API response with HTMLAgilityPack. I am able to select the result items from the API call. Then I loop through the items and want to write the ChildNodes to a table. When I select ChildNodes by saying something like: sItemId = dnItem.ChildNodes(0).innertext I get the proper itemId result. But when I try: sItemId = dnItem.ChildNodes("itemId").innertext I get "Referenced object has a value of 'Nothing'." I have tried "itemID[1]", "/itemId[1]" and a veriety of strings. I have tried SelectSingleNode and ChildNodes.Item("itemId").innertext. The only one that has worked is using the index. The problem with using the index is that sometimes child elements are omitted in the results and that throw off the index. Anybody know what I am doing wrong?

• Distribute pre-compiled python extension module with distutils

  Quick one today: I'm learning the in's and out's of Pythons distutils library, and I would like to include a python extension module (.pyd) with my package. I know of course that the recommended way is to have distutils compile the extension at the time the package is created, but this is a fairly complex extension spanning many source files and referencing several external libs so it's going to take some significant playing to get everything working right. In the meantime I have a known working build of the extension coming out of Visual Studio, and would like to use it in the installer as a temporary solution to allow me to focus on other issues. I can't specify it as a module, however, since those apparently must have an explicit .py extension. How could I indicate in my setup.py that I want to include a pre-compiled extension module? (Python 3.1, if it matters)

• cakePHP paginate with post data without sessions, serialization or post to get

  I have created a small search and filter form method post in controller/index, which posts to it self the conditions and fields to paginate ( $this-paginate($conditions) ) However that is good for the first page, the subsequent pages the filer conditions are lost. pagination passArgs supports get variables well. Is there an un complex way to pass the post conditions to the other paginated pages? The method I have looked at is pass the $conditions in session , which isnt without complexity of assigning session and unset the session on submitting the form again (more refinements to the filter criteria by the user ) The other method is passing the $conditions as serialized string url_encode as an get parameter. Is there an good cake way to do this more like passArgs, sessions and url encode do not look like cake style. Thanks

I am used to using asp.net AJAX PageMethods where you can pass an object that automagically gets parsed to whatever type the parameter is in that method. Did just have to send strings and parse the json to object?

• Reading Local Group Policy / Active Directory Settings

  I'm writing a C# program that will enforce password complexity in accordance with the Windows Group Policy setting "Password must meet complexity requirements". Specifically, if that policy is set to Enabled either on the local machine (if it's not part of a domain) or by the Domain Security Policy (for domain members), then my software needs to enforce a complex password for its own internal security. The issue is that I can't figure out how to read that GPO setting. Google searches have indicated that I can read GPO settings with one of these two APIs: the System.DirectoryServices library in .NET Framework, and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), but I haven't had any success so far. Any insights would be helpful.

• Theory of Computation - Showing that a language is regular..

  I'm reviewing some notes for my course on Theory of Computation and I'm a little bit stuck on showing the following statement and I was hoping somebody could help me out with an explanation :) Let A be a regular language. The language B = {ab | a exists in A and b does not exist in A*} Why is B a regular language? Some points are obvious to me. If b is simply a constant string, this is trivial. Since we know a is in A and b is a string, regular languages are closed under union, so unioning the language that accepts these two strings is obviously regular. I'm not sure that b is constant, however. Maybe it is, and if so, then this isn't really an issue. I'm having a hard time making sense of it. Thanks!

• Entity Framework, full-text search and temporary tables

  I have a LINQ-2-Entity query builder, nesting different kinds of Where clauses depending on a fairly complex search form. Works great so far. Now I need to use a SQL Server fulltext search index in some of my queries. Is there any chance to add the search term directly to the LINQ query, and have the score available as a selectable property? If not, I could write a stored procedure to load a list of all row IDs matching the full-text search criteria, and then use a LINQ-2-Entity query to load the detail data and evaluate other optional filter criteria in a loop per row. That would be of course a very bad idea performance-wise. Another option would be to use a stored procedure to insert all row IDs matching the full-text search into a temporary table, and then let the LINQ query join the temporary table. Question is: how to join a temporary table in a LINQ query, as it cannot be part of the entity model?

• Handling multiple UISwitch controls in a table view without using tag property

  I have a table view controller with multiple UISwitch controls in them. I set the delegate to the table view controller with the same action for all switches. I need to be able to determine what switch was changed, so I create an array of strings that contains the name of each switch. The indexes in the array will be put in the tag property of each UISwitch. However, I'm ready using the tag property for something else, namely to find the right control in the cell in cellForRowAtIndexPath with viewWithTag! (There are several things I need to set within each cell.) So, am I thinking along the right lines here? I feel I'm rather limited in how I find out exactly which UISwitch changed its value, so I can do something useful with it.
