• "Error loading operating system": Win7/Vista

  Have this computer for about 2 years now. Originally had Vista installed, now have Windows 7 installed. Both on separate hard drives. Also have another drive used strictly for media. About a week ago, the Vista hard drive started going on its way out. Was getting problems on startup. After a few BIOS settings, I was able to get into Windows 7 and everything was fine. However, I started remembering the startup issues, so I deleted the bootup for Vista under msconfig. Didn't restart the computer at that time, though. For a few days, everything was ok. Last night I play a little poker, then hit the hay. I wake up to a good ole "Error loading operating system" on the screen. Just wonderful. Looks like the computer restarted overnight (auto updates, anyone?). So, after a big of finagling and half hearted tries, I can't get past the "Error loading operating system" screen. FWIW, in the BIOS it can see my hard drives fine. So I move on. I get my Windows 7 installation disk to try and do a repair. Go in the BIOS, change boot priority to DVD drive, and we're on our merry way. After loading from the disc, I first try jumping into the "Repair your computer" section. That opens up the System Recovery Options. However, this is where the problem comes into play. I don't see any operating systems here. Nada. What's odd though is if I click on the Load Drivers button, I can see my Windows 7 partition (C:), and can go through the files and folders without issue. What do I do at this point? I can't repair it. It seems like I can traverse the hard drive without issue when in an open dialog in the System Recovery Options, but I'm getting the good ole "Error loading computer" on bootup.   I tried to install the following gem: http://github.com/maxjustus/sinatra-authentication on Windows 7 running Ruby 1.9 from the One-Click Installer. C:/Ruby19/bin/ruby.exe extconf.rb creating Makefile make 'make' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Gem files will remain installed in C:/Ruby19/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/yajl-ruby- 0.7.5 for inspection. Results logged to C:/Ruby19/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/yajl-ruby-0.7.5/ext/gem_mak e.out I looked everywehere online, tried to install earlier versions, and attempted a manual install without success (it gave me a stack too deep error). I suspect there are problems with the yajl-ruby gem (http://github.com/brianmario/yajl-ruby), a dependency? (I think) The logs in gem_make.out show: C:/Ruby19/bin/ruby.exe extconf.rb creating Makefile make 'make' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. So I did some googling on this error and saw the suggestion to try shrinking my other dbs to free up some space. So I did so on the 4.1gb db and now when I go to 'properties' for that db it says it is taking/using ~2.4gb. So I should have space now I figure, but whenever I try to restore the ~250mb database now I still get the error message above.. I tried restarting as well but that wasn't helpful. Any idea what the issue is?

• Installing ImageMagick on Mac OSX 10.6

  I just got a new Mac and am trying to setup a local Perl development environment. I'm using MAMP but also need the ImageMagick perl module installed in order to do some of the photo processing our scripts require. I tried installing ImageMagick manually but ran into some issues and after reading online a lot of people reported having issues going this route. The general consensus was to install it using MacPorts instead so I went ahead and installed MacPorts. Unfortunately, MacPorts can't seem to install it successfully either. • Understanding this error: apr_socket_recv: Connection reset by peer (104)

  So, if I do some benchmarking with apache benchmark (ab), and I use large numbers of requests. Then sometimes in the middle of a test I get this error. I don't even know what it means. So how can I fix it? Or is it just something that will happen if the server gets too many hits anyway? The problem is, if I run 10,000 hits, it'll all run perfectly. If I run it again, it'll get to 4000 and get the error: apr_socket_recv: Connection reset by peer (104) A little about my setup: I have nginx taking static requests and processing dynamic ones to apache. The file in question is served from cache by nginx, so I guess it's probably got to do with how nginx is handling the requests? Ideas?

  I tried installing the droid cam on my fedora 19 (64 bit) . • Command-line sort and copy text files to one single file renders an error

  I stumbled on question 217394 which explains how to copy files sorted alphabetically into one single file. Trying to implement the command myself rendered the following error message: The system cannot find the file specified. The command I am trying to run is here: for /f %i in ('dir /a-d /o-n /b O:\OrdersExport\Order*.txt') do @type %i C:\Users\Admin\Documents\OrderImport.txt The error does not appear if I browsed to the folder in question first: C:\O: C:\cd OrdersImport I simply want one line to copy from destination to that single file. • Cannot find my hard disk while installing linux-“No root file system defined” error

  I am trying install Linux on my computer (tried Ubuntu 10.4 and Linux Mint 9). I started the installation wizard and on the hard disk selection page the hard disk is not displayed. I have a 500GB disk with 5 partitions and windows 7 ultimate in one partition. If I click the forward button, it shows an error- "No root file system defined". I have tried to install by booting from CD and pendrive but both shows the same error. When I load Linux as live CD it doesn't show the hard disk. My hard disk works fine in windows 7. System config: intel i3 2100, 500GB hdd, 2GB ram

  Hi, I have to run a tool on around 300 directories. Each run take around 1 minute to 30 minute or even more than that. So, I wrote a python script having a loop to run the tool on all directories one after another. my python script has code something like: for directory in directories: os.popen('runtool_exec ' + directory) But when I run the python script I get the following error messages repeatedly: .. tail: write error: Broken pipe date: write error: Broken pipe .. All I do is login on a remote server using ssh where the tool, python script, and subject directories are kept. When I individually run the tool from command prompt using command like: runtool_exec directory it works fine. "broken pipe" error is coming only when I run using the python script. • Perl not working with Nginx via fastcgi, cannot decipher error logs

  Im running CentOS 6.2, Nginx 1.2.3 following these Linode Instructions to get Perl to work with Nginx I've done everything upto the point of testing an actual Perl file. When I do this the browser says: The page you are looking for is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. And my Nginx error-log shows the following: 2012/09/02 22:09:58 [error] 20772#0: *1 connect() failed (111: Connection refused) while connecting to upstream, client: 192.168.1.102, server: localhost, request: "GET / HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:8999", host: "192.168.1.10:81" Im stuck at this point. Im not sure if it matters but I also have spawn-fcgi and php-fpm to serve up PHP files on this site, but that should be 100% seperate from the perl-fastcgi setup, different port, etc.. How can I troubleshoot this?

• Windows 8.1 clean install keeps failing with Oxc0000005 error

  I'm encountering the error Oxc0000005 when making a clean install of Windows 8.1 x64 on a Samsung 840 SSD. I don't know where the error is coming from, I'v already tested several solutions/workarounds I found online and nothing seems to work. The SSD is healthy, I can install Linux (Ubuntu) on it, but apparently the Windows install reports the drive as "locked" when trying to "refresh" the install. According to diskpart, however, the SSD is not in read-only mode, so I don't understand what is going on. I had Windows 8 installed before formatting the drive.

I read on the net this error could be caused by referencing multiple projects but I tried to move every package in a single project but the error is still there. I tried with multiple JDE version (currently 4.7) and the Java compiler is set to 1.6. Eclipse version is 3.4.1 as recommended by RIM's documentations. Does someone have some clue?

  Hey all i am using the windows verison of VMware Workstation 7.x and I am getting this error when i start my VM error loading operating system That only started to happen when i tried to load that vmdk file into the program VirtualBox. Prior to this it ran just fine. Ever since then i have been unable to start it in VMware Workstation 7.x... I've already tried to repair the vmdk file but when i do it tells me there are no errors found? I used vmware-vdiskmanager.exe -R "c:\blah\my vm disk.vmdk" Anyone else have any more suggestions i could try? It's a 300+GB VM so i really don't want to lose it!!! Thanks, David
