  • How to download a full website as PDF?

    I'm trying to make an offline version of a web site and I'm looking for a tool that would do the task automatically for the whole web site (circa 1000 pages of HTML + images). Is there anything like that and free? I know it is quite challenge for a program but maybe I'll be lucky :). EDIT: It should be a program for Windows.

    What resources (books, Web pages etc) exist out there that: explain the causes of latency in TCP/IP-over-Ethernet networks; mention tools for looking out for things that cause latency (e.g. certain entries in netstat -s); suggest ways to tweak the Linux TCP stack to reduce TCP latency (Nagle, socket buffers etc). The closest I am aware of is this document, but it's rather brief. Alternatively, you're welcome to answer the above questions directly.

  • Google Chrome issues

    I'm an avid user of Chrome and would defend it to the death but there is no denying that it has issues, and I've been experiencing a lot of them recently. Issues Stuck tabs Issue: Around 60% of the time (higher when the system has just started), when Chrome is launched, some or all of the pinned tabs and startup pages will get stuck in the counter-clockwise-rotating "contacting server" mode and never snap out of it. Fix: Quit and launch Chrome until they load properly (this really isn't good, as quitting and launching Chrome can and has cleared all pinned tabs). Extra Information: If you stop the loading and re-enter the URL then the page will load perfectly. The amount of pinned tabs or startup pages seems to be irrelevant, but I could be wrong.   "Downloaded/out of" Issue: Each item in the download bar has a downloaded status section, formatted as "downloaded/out of". Sometimes Chrome doesn't display the "out of" part.   Collapsed settings windows Issue: In Chrome version 19(ish)+, settings are configured via overlayed / popup windows. Sometimes, the window will open fully collapsed. Fix: Resize Chrome's window or open the developer tools. "Network Error" with large downloads Issue: Sometimes, when downloading large files (500MB+) Chrome will download the entire file, the download status will freeze (for example, "1 GB/1 GB") for a few minutes, report "Network error", and delete the .crdownload file. Extra Information: The same file from the same website on the same computer downloads perfectly in other browsers. The website and file type seem to be irrelevant.   Information: I've experienced some of these issues on my home PC and some on my work PC, both of which are Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The only things that link them are my Google account (all settings are synced). Updating Chrome hasn't worked. Most of these issues presented themselves around about version 17 and have continued right through to 21 (current). Uninstalling Chrome, deleting all data in %programFiles(x86)%\Google and %localAppData%\Google, and reinstalling hasn't worked. I have yet to see whether disabling all extensions would make a difference, but it's hard to diagnose as these issues don't occur 100% of the time.   In my case, I don't know if there's an actual solution. I'm just curious as to whether anyone else is having similar issues to those that I'm experiencing. At least then I'll know it's an issue with Chrome itself.

  • 403 forbidden root on apache mac os x 10.7, but can access user directories

    When I access http://localhost/ I get 403 Forbidden, but if I access http://localhost/~username it serves up pages. Things I've tried: - checking error logs - swapping out with original httpd conf files - changing DocumentRoot to my user directory (after all that should work if I can access ~username) I've seen 30 plus Q&A sites that all point to people having trouble with user directories being forbidden. I have the opposite problem, and so I'm tearing my hair out here.

  • rsync over ssh is not working anymore, while ssh itself is working fine (Write failed: broken pipe)

    This issue started happening after i changed router. This is the scenario: Windows7 Host Ubuntu 10.04 Guest (VirtualBox) Ubuntu 10.04 remote server What i used to do is run a very basic rsync command: rsync -avz --delete /local/path/ username@host:/path/to/remote/directory This worked perfect until i did change adsl provider, and i changed router aswell: now, this happens: rsync on Ubuntu Guest is not working anymore (to any random server), if using this new router rsync on Ubuntu Guest is WORKING, if i switch back to old router i tried a new virtual box ubuntu install, and the command is WORKING with both the routers So, the not-working-combo is oldUbuntu + newRouter. To get things worst, i can state that (on the not-working ubuntu) i ping the remote host plain ssh connection to the remote host is working fine (i can auth, connect, and do stuff on the remote host) The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. I can decompile a CHM file using hh.exe, but I don't know how to easily merge the resulting files into a single HTML file, all while preserving the correct order of pages. Is there a free tool which can do this? If not, how can I merge the HTML files in order?

    Hello, i should set up the following configuration with 2 machines: machine A issues HTTP requests machine B serves the pages requested by A For testing purposes, i want that EVERY HTTP request issued by machine A gets served by machine B. For example, machine A browser tries to access www.website.com/article.php?1234 machine B has a folder in its http server that has the content and replies to A. How can I set up a dns on machine B to point ALL requests to itself? Thanks

    I am considering creating a Vista install, in VirtualBox, in a minimum configuration. The Microsoft pages seem consistent on the most important points: 1 GB of system memory 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum) In my experience sometimes these recommendations are accurate. (For example, I have a Windows XP in VirtualBox that generally behaves well running in the stated minimum). If anyone has some practical experience (especially the type that could save me hours of pain), please let me know.

But now I have a wordpress blog setup at https://domain.com/blog/, but any wordpress items eg. https://domain.com/blog/test also got redirected to the home page. I wonder how to fix this?

    Recently I have been scanning some of my hand written notes. Each page ends up as a .bmp file (300 DPI A4). I wish to combine/compress these too a DJVU file for easy reading. Hence, Does anyone know of any programs/utilities for OS X/Linux that can do this. If so, what settings can be considered optimal (lined paper, some coloured ink used). Are there any practical means of tagging pages/regions (to create an outline).

  • IE9 freezes with Protected Mode enabled

    After a disk failure and a new build of Win7, IE9 locks up on most web pages including Bing. Running it as Admin works, and turning off Protected Mode also works. Neither of these was necessary prior to the rebuild and examination of colleagues' workstation config show that it's only my workstation with this quirk. Can anyone suggest a remedy? I have tried bcdedit /set {current} nx AlwaysOff and a reboot, with no effect.
