• Does lshw list the "factory" speed of a memory module or the effective speed and how to find the former?

  I hope I phrased this correctly. lshw gives: description: DIMM Synchronous 400 MHz (2.5 ns) product: M378B5773CH0-CH9 vendor: Samsung physical id: 0 slot: DIMM0 size: 2GiB width: 64 bits clock: 400MHz (2.5ns) And indeed the memory speed is set is set to 800MHz in the BIOS, which I think makes sense since it is a double rate. On the other hand, Googling strongly suggests that to this product number corresponds the PC3-10600 type, which is 1333MHz, not 800MHz. And this seems to be confirmed in the BIOS, where if I select Auto for memory bus speed, 1333MHz is selected "based on SPD settings". However in the latter case, the computer does not boot, i.e. the kernel panics, complaining that something attempted to kill the Idle process. So, I am I am beginning to suspect that I have been given defective memory, the technician that installed saw this, and lowered the bus speed. Is this a possibility?

• SQL-Server 2008 : Table Insert and Range Check ?

  I'm using the Table Value constructor to insert a bunch of rows at a time. However if i'm using sql replication, I run into a range check constraint on the publisher on my id column managed automatically. The reason is the fact that the id range doesn't seem to be increased during an insert of several values, meaning that the max id is reached before the actual range expansion could occur (or the id threshold). It looks like this problem for which the solution is either running the merge agent or run the sp_adjustpublisheridentityrange stored procedure. I'm litteraly doing something like : INSERT INTO dbo.MyProducts (Name, ListPrice) VALUES ('Helmet', 25.50), ('Wheel', 30.00), ((SELECT Name FROM Production.Product WHERE ProductID = 720), (SELECT ListPrice FROM Production.Product WHERE ProductID = 720)); GO What are my options (if I don't want or can't adopt any of the proposed solution) ? Expand the range ? Decrease the threshold ? Can I programmatically modify my request to circumvent this problem ? thanks.

  I just bought a nettop. It came with WinXP Home. I first installed Win 7 on it. I wasn't that happy with the performance so I decided to go back to XP. I am using an external dvd drive and a Win XP Pro disc. I boot from the dvd drive and during the install get this error: Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3. • Activating Windows 7 generates error code 0xc004F061

  I got a new SSD and wanted to start over with Windows 7 on that disk. I did a clean install (my mistake) on the SSD and just went passed the activation part (left the key blank). Now that I have my system all setup, configured, files pulled back from backup, and ready to go, I'd like to activate Windows 7. However, I now get this error: The following failure occurred while trying to use the product key: Code: 0xC004F061 Description: The Software Licensing Service determined that this specified product key can only be used for upgrading, not for clean installations. Do I really need to wipe my system again, install Windows Vista, and then do the Windows 7 upgrade in order to use my upgrade key? Is there some kind of work around?

• Which kind of memory do I need for this laptop?

  I'm trying to upgrade the RAM in my laptop. It has two slots, but only 1 is filled with a 4gb stick, so I am looking for another 4gb to stick in the other slot. It is a HP g6-1d38dx. I found this RAM, 9-9-9-24, but it is 1333mhz. Looks like it says my max bandwith on the stock stick is 800MhZ. • Can't `mount -o loop` an ISO from an NFS share (RHEL)

  I have a large NFS share with a variety of software ISOs on it. I've only tried this on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, but when trying to do the following, the mount comes back with an error indicating no permissions to mount. Why would this be happening? NFS is mounted thusly: mediaserver:path/to/isos /media/nfs This is the mount call that fails mount -o loop /media/nfs/product.iso /tmp/product If I copy the ISO, there is no issue. The NFS share is mounted rw. How can I loop mount the ISO from the NFS share without copying it first?

• Why S3 website redirect location is not followed by CloudFront?

  I have a website hosted on Amazon S3. It is the new version of an old website hosted on WordPress. I have set up some files with the metadata Website Redirect Locationto handle old location and redirect them to the new website pages. For example: I had http://www.mysite.com/solution that I want to redirect to http://mysite.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/product.html So I created an empty file named solutioninside my bucket with the correct metadata: Website Redirect Location= /product.html The S3 redirect metadata is equivalent to a 301 Moved Permanentlythat is great for SEO. This works great when accessing the URL directly from S3 domain. I have also set up a CloudFront distribution based on the website bucket. And when I try to access through my distribution, the redirect does not work, ie: http://xxxx123.cloudfront.net/solution does not redirect but download the empty file instead. So my question is how to keep the redirection through the CloudFront distribution ? Or any idea on how to handle the redirection without deteriorate SEO ? Thanks

  What things should I check to confirm that compression is actually happening on our tape backup system? Although the tapes are marked as 200G/520G (native/compressed) capacity, they seem to fill up before the 200G mark (some less than 100G). • Upgrading Windows 7 on a new Netbook - Problems

  I know this seems like a repeat of a question but i didn't get a clear answer from reading the other questions so im going to ask mine and hope i hear back good news. I bought an Acer Aspire one netbook with windows 7 starter. I have a DVD of Windows 7 Professional(x86) from MSNDAA through my college but when i tried to install it, i was given an error saying that i could only upgrade through the "Windows Anytime Upgrade" Though, it only gives me the options of paying for an upgrade, which im not willing to do, or putting in an upgrade key. I have a legitimate product key for windows 7 but it does not work for upgrading and the DVD does not allow for it. Am i doing something wrong? is there another option? can i convert my product key to an upgrade key ? Im up for any option, windows 7 starter is pretty limited in its features...

• Syncronizing XML file with MySQL database

  My company uses an internal management software for storing products. They want to transpose all the products in a MySql database so they can do available their products on the company website. Notice: they will continue to use their own internal software. This software can exports all the products in various file format (including XML). The syncronization not have to be in real time, they are satisfied to syncronize the MySql database once a day (late night). Also, each product in their software has one or more images, then I have to do available also the images on the website. • How to activate Windows 8 Pro license with Releae Preview installed?

  So I'm one of the many who downloaded the Release Preview (64-bit). I now got the ISO to install Windows 8 Professional (64-bit) and a product key (note: I didn't get these from either Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant or Microsoft's web Store), everything legal. However, the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant only gives me the option to Store my personal files which means that I'll have to say goodbye to both my Program Files and their respective configurations. I just want to input the Product Key and activate the license, why isn't this possible? Even "Add Features to Windows 8" doesn't accept the key. Do I really need to backup all of my stuff and make a clean install?

• Acrobat Reader, and indeed all Adobe products are freezing and crashing on print

  Everything was working fine, right up till I had to do some driver work to get my scanner to work - now I can't seem to print from any Adobe product. I click print and the program freezes, it stops responding, and in the case of Acrobat Reader, it crashes. In the case of In-design CS4, I have to stop the process in task manager, in the case of Fireworks CS3 - I think it just crashes. Printing a PDF hangs and crashes inside of Firefox and IE browsers too. My printer works and I can print from MS Word, Excel and directly by right clicking on a non-Adobe file and choosing print. But when I try it in an Adobe product. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, my version of Adobe Reader is: 10.1.11, Windows is updated, and I don't have any unusual extensions.

• Windows Remote Desktop with multiple monitors

  I'm looking for a remote desktop product that will allow me to switch on the fly between how many monitors the desktop is using. This would be going from one Windows 7 machine to another, one is running Ultimate, the other Enterprise. I know I can use Windows RDP with multi-monitor support, but it seems that only allows me to use ALL monitors, and if I switch to a windowed view, I get huge scrollbars because I'm going from 3 monitors to 1 window. What I'm looking for is something that will allow me to switch from 1, 2, or 3 monitor displays without restarting the RDP and would end up with a true 1/2/3 display - ie, if I go from 3 monitors to 1, or a window, I don't get scrollbars. Is there any such product?

The Git repository is initialized under the directory /opt/git_repo.git I created a group developers which owns the directory git_repo.git. Then I created three users which are part of the same group - DeA, DevB, DevC. I created a soft link into each developer home directory which points to the /opt/git_repo.git location. The problem is that when a user connects to the Git server and use the soft link to access the files he cannot do it.   I have a data sheet with multiple values in multiple columns. I have a qty and a current price which when multiplied out gives me the current revenue (CurRev). I want to use this lookup table to give me the new revenue (NewRev) from the new price but can't figure out how to do multiple ifs in a lookup. What I want is to build a new column that checks the "Product", "Tier" and "Location/State" and gives me the new price from the lookup table (above) and then multiply that by the qty. e.g. Data > Product, Tier, Location, Qty, CurRev, NewRev > Product1, Tier1, VIC, 2, $1000.00, $6000 (2 x $3000) > Product2, Tier3, NSW, 1, $100.00, $200 (1 x $200) > Product1, Tier3, SA, 5, $250.00, $750 (5 x $150) > Product3, Tier1, ACT, 5, $100.00, $500(5 x $100) > Product2, Tier3, QLD, 2, $150.00, $240 (2 x $240) Worst case, if I just get the new rate I can create another column

• Can't boot into my Windows 7 64-bit Acer laptop

  Boot normally -- it hangs on "Starting Windows" animation forever. Boot safe mode -- it bluescreens. Boot with a recovery CD (or try Repair Installation directly without a CD) -- it hangs on the green loading bar forever. I dual-boot Ubuntu and can get into the Ubuntu partition fine so I don't think anything is necessarily wrong with the harddrive, but the Ubuntu partition is tiny and I rarely use it and can't access my Windows files anyway. Is there anything I can try that'll help repair whatever happened? I just want to run a checkdisk utility or something similar that'll repair whatever got botched. • Displaying X11 Apps on Windows 7

  I installed a product called xming, a light weight X11 server product on Windows 7 laptop. From remote RHEL system I redirected display to Win7 laptop then launched X11 GUI app. I was not able to launch X11 apps and have them appear on laptop display as intended. To fix it I added -ac to the properties of xming launch desktop icon. I been searching through Windows and xming docs but can't find explanation. My guess is it is like xhost + on unix that allows connections from anybody. Can anybody explain why this worked?

  I was just wondering if anyone may have come across a product that would allow for a container based encryption to be used by multiple people, in a Windows Server setup. I wanted to see if there might be something like a truecrypt that could handle being accessed by two accounts? Looking to see if there is a product that would have such properties that would allow only a hand full of users access to the content of the location, but allow for the files to be backed up a normal backup system. That way if a file had to be restored, the container could be redirected to another location for one of the users to get access to it? This would allow for access to be restricted beyond the NTFS and file share permissons

I have checked other questions, but either they have no answers or they told about previous Ubuntu version with 3.0.x kernels. A USB 2.0 device will work in the USB 3.0 ports. A USB 3.0 device will work (at USB 2.0 speeds) in the USB 2.0 ports. The problem, as I wrote, is between USB 3.0 devices and USB 3.0 ports. I have my USB 3.0 ports configured without legacy support via the BIOS (the way they should be, I suppose). But I also have tried to configure them with XHCI Preboot mode disabled. Have any one solved a similar problem? Thanks in advance.
