    I wrote a PHP CUrl Class, if i execute Methods which should return the Content, it returns at first the Headers and after that the Content. So i cant parse any XML Data.   • Redirecting users on select from autocomplete?

    Hi, i'm trying to implement the jquery autocomplete plugin. I've got it up and running, but something is not working properly. Basically i have a autocomplete-list of employees. The list is generated from a table in a sql-database (employee_names and employee_ID), using a VB.NET handler (.ashx file). The data is formatted as: employee_name-employee_ID. So far so good and all employees are listed in autocomplete. The problem is that i don't know how to redirect a user to a certain page (for example employee_profile.aspx) when they've selected an employee from autocomplete. This is my redirect-code, but it ain't working like it should: $('#fname2').result(function(event, data, formatted) { location.href = "employee_profile.aspx?id=" + data }); For example; a user selects It will redirect a user to employee_profile.aspx?id=name of employee-id of employee (for example: employee_profile.aspx?id=John Doe-91210) instead of employee_profile.aspx?id=91210. I know i can strip the employee_ID with: formatResult: function(data, value) { return value.split("-")[1]; } }); But i do not know how to pass that employee_ID to the redirect-page.. For example: If I set len(value) 2, after I type the 3rd character it will give me a list of suggestions. But if I keep on typing the 4th or 5th character, the list of suggestions doesn't change.   • CLR Stored Procedures

    In an ASP.NET application, I have a small number of fairly complex, frequently used operations to execute against a database. In these operations, one or more of several tables needs updates or inserts based a logical evaluation of both input parameters and values of certain tables. I've maintained a separation of logic and data access, so the operation currently looks like this: Request received from client Business layer invokes data layer to retrieve data from database Business layer processes result and determines which operation to execute Business layer invokes appropriate data operation Response sent to client As you can see, the client is kept waiting while two separate requests are made to the database. In searching for a solution to this, I've found CLR Stored Procedures, but I'm not sure if I have the right idea about what they are useful for. I have written a replacement for the code above which especially places steps 2-4 in a CLR SP. My understanding is that the SP will be executed locally by SQL Server and result in only one call being made to the server. My initial benchmark tests show this is actually orders of magnitude slower than my original code, but I attribute that recompilation of the code I have not worked out yet and/or some flaw in my environment. My question is basically, is this the intended use of CLR SPs or am I missing something? I realize this is a bit of a compromise structurally, so if there's a better way to do it I'd love to hear it.

  • Why is the Clojure Hello World program so slow compared to Java and Python?

    Hi all, I'm reading "Programming Clojure" and I was comparing some languages I use for some simple code. I noticed that the clojure implementations were the slowest in each case. Does anyone have pointers on what the cause of this could be? Is Clojure really that slow, or are there JVM tricks et al that need to be used in order to speed up execution? More importantly - isn't this huge difference in performance going to be an issue at some point? (I mean, lets say I was using Clojure for a production system - the gain I get in using lisp seems completely offset by the performance issues I can see here). The machine used here is a 2007 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard, a 2.16Ghz Intel C2D and 2G DDR2 SDRAM.   • Beginner SQL question: querying gold and silver tag badges in Stack Exchange Data Explorer

    I'm using the Stack Exchange Data Explorer to learn SQL, but I think the fundamentals of the question is applicable to other databases. I'm trying to query the Badges table, which according to Stexdex (that's what I'm going to call it from now on) has the following schema: Badges Id UserId Name Date This works well for badges like [Epic] and [Legendary] which have unique names, but the silver and gold tag-specific badges seems to be mixed in together by having the same exact name. Imagine also that the "real" query may be more complicated, i.e. not just listing by date. How would you write it so that it doesn't have too many repetition between the silver and gold subqueries? Is it perhaps more typical to do two totally separate queries instead? What is this idiom called? A row "partitioning" query to put them into "buckets" or something?

  • Using a custom IList obtained through NHibernate

    Hi.I'm trying to write a web page in .NET, using C# and NHibernate 2.1. The problem is that I'm getting a result that is incompatible with a repeater. When I try this: posts.DataSource = whatevervar.; posts.DataBind(); ...I get this: DataBinding: 'System.Object[]' does not contain a property with the name 'user_avatar'.   • reactor not working when reactor.run is not called in the main thread and installSignalHandlers=Fals

    I'm trying to answer the following question out of personal interest: What is the fastest way to send 100,000 HTTP requests in Python? And this is what I have came up so far, but I'm experiencing something very stange. When installSignalHandlers is True, it just hangs. I can see that the DelayedCall instances are in reactor._newTimedCalls, but processResponse never gets called.     Dear All, I have a little problem. I have developed a midlet application that call some webservices through internet. I'm using cell phones with GPRS connection. For some time it runs as I wanted, run the apps, call the webservices through the GPRS, it returns the result, call the webservices again, and so on. But say, I call the webservices and after the apps return the result I needed, I left it for a while. The next time I continue to access the webservices, the apps takes a while to connect through the GPRS. In nokia, it is marked with a G in a box. In SE it is marked with a glowing globe. This 'G' in the box or the glowing globe will appear after a while or won't appear at all, but the apps is still trying to connect to the internet. Does it come from my apps or it come from the cell phone? And could I know [or the apps knows] that at the moment the apps tries to connect the GPRS is ready? Thanks a lot for your responses...

    Hi, I'm trying to create a bunch of MS visual studio unit tests for my n-tiered web app but for some reason I can't run those tests and I get the following error - "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" What I'm trying to do is testing of my data access layer where I use LINQ data context class to execute a certain function and return a result,however during the debugging process I found out that all the tests fail as soon as they get to the LINQ data context class and it has something to do with the connection string but I cant figure out what is the problem. UPDATE: Finally I've fixed this!!!!:) I dont know why but for some reasons in the app.config file the connection to my database was as follows: AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\EICDatabase.MDF So what I did is I just changed the path and instead of |DataDirectory| I put the actual path where my MDF file sits,i.e C:\Users\1\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\EICWebSystem\EICWebSystem\App_Data\EICDatabase.mdf After I had done that it worked out!But still it's a bit not clear what was the problem...probably incorrect path to the database?My web.config of ASP.NET project contains the |DataDirectory|\EICDatabase.MDF path though..

  • CFHost DNS Resolution - When is it OK to use synchronous API?

    I went to the iPhone Developer Tech Talk a few months ago and asked one of the gurus there about the lack of NSHost on the iPhone. Some code I was porting to the iPhone made significant use of NSHost throughout its networking code. I was told that NSHost is on the iPhone, but its private. I was also told that NSHost is a synchronous API and that I shouldn't use it anyway. (If anyone could elaborate on why it shouldn't be used, as a bonus, that'd be great.) I can see the caveats of using synchronous API's on the main thread in that they'll block until complete - and that's never a good thing with network code because there are so many factors that could cause the API to block the thread for a significant amount of time. My solution was to write a wrapper around CFHost's asynchronous resolution functions. The result works quite well, and I'm considering releasing it into the public domain. But my question is this: Say my app only resolves a hostname once per run, during the connecting phase, and then cache's it for the rest of the session. During the time it is resolving, a modal screen is shown telling the user "Connecting" with a nice spinner. Does it really matter whether or not the resolution is asynchronous?? The user has to wait to connect anyway, and the resolution is only done on the first connection. Subsequent connections use the cached result of the resolution. When is it OK to be synchronous and when should things be asynchronous?

    I need to validate the LDAP user by checking if there exists such a user name in the specified domain. For this I am using this code - DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + strDomainController); DirectorySearcher searcher = new DirectorySearcher(entry); searcher.Filter = "SAMAccountName=" + strUserName; SearchResult result = searcher.FindOne(); return (result != null) ? true : false; This is a method in a class library which I intened to reference and use whereever I need this functionality in my project. To test this, I created a simple test application. The test occurs like this - Console.WriteLine(MyClassLib.MyValidateUserMethod("UserName", "Domain",ref strError).ToString()); The problem I am facing is that this works fine when I test it with my testapp but in my project, when I try to use the same method with the same credentials - The DirectoryEntry object throws an "System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException" exception and the search.Filter fails and throws ex = {"Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.\r\n"} exception. I have tried impersonation but that doesn't help. Somehow the same method works fine in mytestapp and doesn't work in my project. Both these applications are in my local dev machine. What am I missing? Any ideas?

    Hi, I am developing a Java Applet that makes use of JOAL.     I'm trying to come closer to a solution for the problem of my previous question. The scheme I would like to try is following: User requests an action from RoR controller. Action makes some database queries, makes some calculations, sets some session variable(s) and returns some RJS code as the response. This code could either update a progress bar and make another ajax request. display the final result (e.g. a chart grahic) if all the processing is finished The browser evaluates the javascript representation of the RJS. It may make another (recursive? Is recursion allowed at all?) request, or just display the result for the user. So, my question this time is: how can I embed a XMLHttpRequest call into rjs code properly? Some things I'd like to know are: Should I create a new thread to avoid stack overflow. What rails helpers (if any) should I use? Have anybody ever done something similar before on Rails or with other frameworks? Is my idea sane?

No short description is displayed in the feed reader, all I see is the title of the article. Also, all of the articles say they were published at the same time.     I'm creating my generic DataContext using only the connectionString in the ctor. I have no issues in retrieving the table using DataContext.GetTable(). However, I need to also be able to retrieve entities of inline table functions. The dbml designer generates public IQueryable<testFunctionResult> testFunction() { return this.CreateMethodCallQuery<testFunctionResult>(this, ((MethodInfo)(MethodInfo.GetCurrentMethod()))); } The question is how do I get the MethodInfo.GetCurrentMethod() when the DataContext has no method called "testFunction", i.e.typeof(DataContext).GetMethod("testFunction") returns null?   • tikz: set appropriate x value for a node

    This question resulted from the question here I want to produce a curly brace which spans some lines of text. The problem is that I have to align the x coordinate manually, which is not a clean solution. Currently I use \begin{frame}{Example} \begin{itemize} \item The long Issue 1 \tikz[remember picture] \node[coordinate,yshift=0.7em] (n1) {}; \\ spanning 2 lines \item Issue 2 \tikz[remember picture] \node[coordinate, xshift=1.597cm] (n2) {}; \item Issue 3 \end{itemize} \visible<2->{ \begin{tikzpicture}[overlay,remember picture] \draw[thick,decorate,decoration={brace,amplitude=5pt}] (n1) -- (n2) node[midway, right=4pt] {One and two are cool}; \end{tikzpicture} } % end visible \end{frame} which produces the desired result: The unsatisfying thing is, that I had to figure out the xshift value of 1.597cm by trial and error (more or less) Without xshift argument the result is: I guess there is an elegant way to avoid the explicit xshift value. The best way would it imho be to calculate the maximum x value of two nodes and use this, (as already suggested by Geoff) But it would already be very handy to be able to explicitly define the absolute xvalues of both nodes while keeping their current y values. This would avoid the fiddly procedure of adapting the third post decimal position to ensure that the brace looks vertical.
