  • pythonpath issue? "python2.5: can't open file 'dev_appserver.py': [Errno 2] No such file or director

    I added this line to my .bashrc (Ubuntu 9.10): export PYTHONPATH=/opt/google_appengine/ And then I ran the dev_appserver through python2.5 on Ubuntu like this: $ python2.5 dev_appserver.py guestbook/ python2.5: can't open file 'dev_appserver.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory As you can see, it can't find dev_appserver.py even though it's in my /opt/google_appengine/ directory. Just to make sure it's not a permissions issue I did this: sudo chmod a+rwx dev_appserver.py To check whether it's been added to the system path for python2.5 I did this: $ python2.5 Python 2.5.5 (r255:77872, Apr 29 2010, 23:59:20) [GCC 4.4.1] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> import sys >>> for line in sys.path: print line ... /usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c9-py2.5.egg /opt/google_appengine/demos /opt/google_appengine /usr/local/lib/python25.zip ...     With the example below, I need to add padding and background-color properties to the text anchor. I then need to exclude padding and background-color from anchors that contain images. <p> <a href="#">this is a text link that needs to be styled</a> <a href="#"><img src="image/name.jpg" alt="this needs to be excluded from styling" /></a> </p> If I have a red background and padding on my text links, I do not want that same red background and padding to appear on my linked images. The images will always be in their own anchors, not mixed with text within the same anchor. The rub is that I can not add classes or IDs to the img tags - I do not have edit control of that data. So how can I add CSS attributes to all anchors, while excluding anchors that contain images?

    I would like to know, what are the ways a web framework may be suitable for designing a RESTful app, in general. One goal is for example to provide http request routing, so they are automatically sent to appropriate controllers. From architectural point of view, web framework based on MVC pattern are more suitable for REST. What other features of web frameworks are helpful by building apps satisfying the REST constraints? Is there any reason why you consider certain languages(python/java) or web frameworks(django/turbogears/jersey/restlets/...) as the most applicable ones?

  • Is there such a thing as a C# style extension method in C++ ?

    I'm currently learning C++ and i run into the simple problem of converting an int to a string. I've worked around it using: string IntToString(int Number) { stringstream Stream; Stream << Number; return Stream.str(); } but though it would be more elegant to use something like: int x = 5; string y = x.toString(); but how do i add the toString() method to a built in type? or am i missing something totally fundamental?

  • Resharper 5: How do I set the default formatting style for inline code blocks?

    I've got a problem with the formatting of inline code blocks within the VS2010 text editor and wonder if anyone else has had similar problems and found the 'magic' setting I'm looking for. I'm working my way through tutorials in an MVC book. Whenever I add some inline code blocks to a view I want them formatted like so: <% foreach (var link in Model) { %> <a href="<%=Url.RouteUrl(link.RouteValues)%>"> <%=link.Text%> </a> <% } %> What I'm actually getting is this (auto-formatted by the IDE when I finish writing the code): <% foreach (var link in Model) { %> <a href="<%=Url.RouteUrl(link.RouteValues)%>"> <%=link.Text%> </a> <% } %> It's pretty irritating. Any ideas on how I can instruct the IDE to leave my <% % tags alone? I've been fiddling with options under "Tools - Options - Text Editor" for ages but alas am getting nowhere... Edit: I've just noticed that this is down to Resharper 5 (when I disable it the problem disappears), however I still don't know how to stop it. Any ideas?

  • Telerik chart not loading correctly in new window (ajax issue?)

    I have a page which contains user controls with Telerik Charts (grids also, but they work fine). From this page, the user can click on a button to be redirected to a "Printer-Friendly Version" type page, which opens a new window via javascript and goes through a slightly different view (for formatting and stuff), but the telerik code is all the same. The problem is, my Chart displays just fine in the original window, but the new window displays basically an empty chart with no data. This bug is only present in IE, and only applies to Charts. Grids work fine, for whatever reason. I'm thinking this is due to differences in script caching between browsers -- correct me if I'm wrong, I'm semi-new to client-directed web development. Anyway I read somewhere that Telerik has issues with loading data and/or js files when loaded via ajax, so maybe that's the problem? If so, how could I get around this? And if not, any ideas on what could be causing this issue? It's causing me a great deal of frustration, since a print preview page seems like it should be the easiest of jobs. Edit: The charts are being rendered as html (if somebody can explain how to render them as images, that would be awesome). And dev tools shows basically the same thing between chrome and IE. Whenever my web service goes back up ill WinMerge them and look for any peculiarities/differences between them. In the mean time, though, the "render as an image" concept sounds promising. That way I could just save the image from the first page, and insert it right into the print preview page, right?. And since it's a print-preview page, it's not going to need to be interactive or anything, so that'd work out nicely. Another (important) Edit: These are probably the culprit...   • How does one gets started with Winforms style applications on Win32?

    EDIT: I'm extremely tired and frustrated at the moment -- please ignore that bit in this question -- I'll edit it in the morning to be better. Okay -- a bit of background: I'm a C++ programmer mostly, but the only GUI stuff I've ever done was on top of .NET's WinForms platform. I'm completely new to Windows GUI programming, and despite Petzold's excellent book, I'm extremely confused. Namely, it seems that most every reference on getting started with Win32 is all about drawing lines and curves and things -- a topic about which (at least at present time) I couldn't care less. I need a checked list box, a splitter, and a textbox -- something that would take less than 10 minutes to do in Winforms land. It has been recommended to me to use the WTL library, which provides an implementation of all three of these controls -- but I keep getting hung up on simple things, such as getting the damn controls to use the right font, and getting High DPI working correctly. I've spent two freaking days on this, and I can't help but think there has to be a better reference for these kinds of things than I've been able to find. Petzold's book is good, but it hasn't been updated since Windows 95 days, and there's been a LOT changed w.r.t. how applications should be correctly developed since it was published. I guess what I'm looking for is a modern Petzold book. Where can I find such a resource, if any?

  • [0-9a-zA-Z]* string expressed with primes or prime-factorization-style way to break it into parts?

    Suppose a string consists of numbers and alphabets. You want to break it into parts, an analogy is primes' factorization, but how can you do similar thing with strings [0-9a-zA-Z]* or even with arbitrary strings? I could express it in alphabets and such things with octal values and then prime-factorize it but then I need to keep track of places where I had the non-numbers things. Is there some simple way to do it? I am looking for simple succinct solutions and don't want too much side-effects. [Update] mvds has the correct idea, to change the base, how would you implement it?

  • How can I use a meter-style progress bar?

    In Vista/7, the Windows Explorer shell window makes use of a special kind of static progress bar to display hard drive space. With default styles, this bar is blue colored and non-animated. It also turns red colored when it gets close to being full (low disk space). Using messaging, I can tell the Windows Forms ProgressBar control to update its state to Paused and Error (yellow and red colored, respectively), which works fine, but these are still specific to progress. In the Windows User Experience Guidelines, it specifically points out this "meter" variant of the Progress Bar: This pattern isn't a progress bar, but it is implemented using the progress bar control. Meters have a distinct look to differentiate them from true progress bars. They say it "is implemented using the progress bar control", so... how? What message could I send to the control to have it behave this way? I've seen that you can send messages for setting the bar color, but the documentation says these calls are ignored when visual styles are enabled. Nothing else in the Windows API documentation for raw ProgressBar controls seemed to suggest a way to do this. Am I just stuck making a custom drawn bar? I'd really like to utilize the OS whenever possible so that the application will appear consistent throughout different OS versions. I realize that pre-Vista versions probably won't support this, though. I'm looking for a Windows Forms solution, but I wonder if it is even exposed at all via Win32 API.

    Hi ! I love doctests, it is the only testing framwork I use, because it is so quick to write, and because used with sphinx it makes such great documentations with almost no effort... However, very often, I end-up doing things like this : """ Descriptions ============= bla bla bla ... >>> test 1 bla bla bla + tests tests tests * 200 lines = poor readability of the actual code """ What I mean is that I put all my tests with documentation explanations on the top of the module, so you have to scroll stupidly to find the actual code, and this is quite ugly (in my opinion). However, I think that the doctests should still stay in the module, because you should be able to read them while reading the source code. So here comes my question : sphinx/doctests lovers, how do you organize your doctests, such as the code readability doesn't suffer ?

  • Which data structure(s) to back a Final Fantasy ATB-style queue? (a delay queue)

    Situation: There are several entities in a simulated environment, which has an artificial notion of time called "ticks", which has no link to real time. Each entity takes it in turns to move, but some are faster than others. This is expressed by a delay, in ticks. So entity A might have a delay of 10, and B 25. In this case the turn order would go: A A B A A I'm wondering what data structure to use. At first I automatically thought "priority queue" but the delays are relative to "current time" which complicates matters. Also, there will be entities with larger delays and it's not unforseeable that the program will run through millions of ticks. It seems silly for an internal counter to be building higher and higher when the delays themselves stay relatively small and don't increase. So how would you solve this?

  • Convert unstructured SVN folders to trunk/branches style and retain history?

    I have a SVN repository which is currently structured like so: /versions /1.0.0 /1.0.1 /1.0.2 /1.1.0 /(etc) What happened here is that when it was time to start a new release, a team member would make a copy of the previous version's folder and rename that folder; then add/commit that new folder into SVN. As a consequence, all of the revision history for a given version-folder is limited just to changes made in that version-folder. SVN thinks that each file in each version-folder was created anew at the time of version-folder creation. So what I'd like to do is convert this series of folders into a traditional trunk/branches/tag SVN structure. Is it possible to somehow "reconcile" the revision histories of each of these versioned folders back into one common revision-history tree?

I can get all the radio buttons but the text appear with the radio button is not user friendly. How is that being achieved in principal on Unix/Linux with C++? Do you directly manipulate some kind of character buffer or is the screen constantly cleared and reprinted to stdout?   • find() or children() to search top-level children only for a style?

    Hi, I'd like to find if a child element exists which has either of two class styles applied. My code looks like this: var listOfMatchedResults = $("#parentList").find(".myStyle1, .myStyle2"); My styles are defined like this: .parent li, .myStyle0 { } .parent li.myStyle1 { } .parent li.myStyle2 { } I don't need to traverse more than one level deeper than the children level, like: <ul id='parentList'> <li><p>foo</p><p>grok</p></li> <li class='myStyle2'><p>Here</p><p>I am!</p></li> <li><p>foo</p><p>grok</p></li> </ul> I'm not clear as to what find() is doing, is it going into each of the paragraph elements too? I just need it to traverse the top-level children - is there a way to specify that? Thank you
