• iTunes Connect rejects my binary because I used a pre-release version of the SDK, what should I do?

  NOTE - I'm posting this question to answer myself as a service to the community. Stay tuned for the answer. I downloaded a pre-release version of the iPhone SDK and tried to update one of my existing apps using a binary I built with it. Obviously you are not supposed to do this but I had forgotten about the warning when I installed the pre-release SDK. Anyway - I have two questions: Can I simply set the base SDK to an earlier version in the build settings and get around this problem? If not, then what should I do?

• What programming language best bridges the gap between pseudocode and code?

  As I write code from now on, I plan to first lay out everything in beautiful, readable pseudocode and then implement the program around that structure. If I rank the languages that I currently know from easiest to most difficult to translate, I'd say: Lisp, Python, Lua, C++, Java, C I know that each language has its strength and weaknesses but I'm focusing specifically on pseudocode. What language do you use that is best suited for pseudocode-to-code? I always enjoy picking up new languages. Also, if you currently use this technique, I'd love to hear any tips you have about structuring practical pseudocode. Note: I feel this is subjective but has a clear answer per individual preference. I'm asking this here because the SO community has a very wide audience and is likely to suggest languages and techniques that I would otherwise not encounter.

  I'm reading a paper which mentions that a language for refactoring has three specific requirements. functional features (like ML) logical queries (like Datalog) path queries (like Datalog) I know what they mean by functional features, but I'm not totally clear on the latter two and can't find a clear explanation either. Although I have a good idea after what I could find on the subjects, I need to be sure so here goes: Could the SO-community please clearly explain to me what logical queries and path queries are?   Hi, I am teaching programming to my nephews and I want them to improve their skills by contributing to open source projects. Now my question is, do you know any open source project that suit for a newbie programmer. What I mean is, the project does not have a large codebase, the project is very interesting and the project is written in C because I chose C language as their starting language but you can suggest other project made in other language. My goal here are to improve their logic by reading other source codes, familiarize to the available development tools like bug tracker, version control system, etc. and open their interest in open source community. • Ruby on Rails: What are partial hash arguments and full set arguments?

  I'm using asserts_redirected_to in my unit tests, and I'm receiving this warning: DEPRECATION WARNING: Using assert_redirected_to with partial hash arguments is deprecated. Specify the full set arguments instead. What is a partial hash argument, and what is a full set argument? These aren't terms that I've seen used in the Rails community before, and the only relevant results I can find on Google for these are in reference to this deprecation warning. Here is my code: assert_redirected_to :controller => :user, :action => :search also tried: assert_redirected_to({:controller => :user, :action => :search}) I might have guessed that it feels I'm missing some parameters or something like that, but the API documentation explicitly says that not all parameters need to be included: http://rails.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActionController/Assertions/ResponseAssertions.html

• How to terminate a JBPM processInstance

  Hi all I'm using JBPM 4.3 and trying hard to find a way to terminate one processInstance. First I simply used something like: executionService.endProcessInstance(processInstanceID, "active"); However I got exception thrown out. "exception while executing command org.jbpm.pvm.internal.cmd.EndProcessInstance java.lang.NullPointerException" Then I googled to find this post http://community.jboss.org/thread/146478, which didn't seem to give a resolution. I tried nevertheless to end all executions of the processInstance by calling ((ExecutionImpl) execution).end(); But the same exception was thrown again when I finally try to call executionService.endProcessInstance(processInstanceID, "active"); Did anyone have the same experience and solution?

• How can I get a value out of a jQuery object?

  I am returning some data (example below) and saving it to a jQuery object (or is this an array and I am confusing the two?) when I log the variable that is the object it has the values I am looking for but how do I access the data inside this object? code $itemPosition = { 'top': $item.offset().top, 'left':$item.offset().left }, console.log($itemPosition); This would log out (the in this case expected) top: 0 & left: 490. But how can I know work with those values? Also, while this it is probably obvious I am still in the early stages of learning jQuery/Javascript rest assured that reference books are on their way, but so far the SO community has been invaluable to my learning, so thanks for reading! J.

  Hi all, I am using the latest Eclipse for Java EE & the latest JBoss Tools plugin. Now, I am working on some EJB 2.x code. I cannot find a way to generate the xdoclet-build.xml file like before. After some investigations, I begin to ask myself (and you) that is XDoclet still supported by the community: JBoss, Eclipse (WTP), etc. ? • NSAlert pops up for 3 times

  Hello community i have a big problem. i implemented an NSAlert in the viewDidLoad() of my app: UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:title message:alertMessage delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:ok otherButtonTitles:nil]; But the Alert pops up for 3 times, and then i can klick on it. Could it be that the viewDidLoad() starts for 3 times? This is the viewDidLoad in the rootViewController, that manages the views: - (void)viewDidLoad { Kundenkarte *kartenAnsicht = [[Kundenkarte alloc] initWithNibName:@"Kundenkarte" bundle:nil]; kartenAnsicht.rootViewController = self; kartenAnsicht.viewDidLoad; self.map = kartenAnsicht; [self.view addSubview:kartenAnsicht.view]; [kartenAnsicht release]; // [super viewDidLoad]; } kartenAnsicht is the view where the problem is.   If you have checked out the new MSDN layout recently you will notice that there are tabs for example code: Do you see that there is room for F# (is there really anyone using that?) but not for Delphi! My question is: can we all ask Microsoft to add a Delphi tab and as a community take care off adding samples. • Is it worth it to learn an esoteric programming language?

  Wikipedia: An esoteric programming language (sometimes shortened to esolang) is a programming language designed as a test of the boundaries of computer programming language design, as a proof of concept, or as a joke. There is usually no intention of the language being adopted for real-world programming. Such languages are often popular among hackers and hobbyists. This use of esoteric is meant to distinguish these languages from more popular programming languages. Some more popular languages may appear esoteric (in the usual sense of the word) to some, and though these could arguably be called "esoteric programming languages" too, this is not what is meant. I think it might be worth it, just to learn a new language and go through the process, although only if you don't have anything else to do (like a real project or learning a new real language). But what does the community think? Is there some value in these languages?

• Modify HTML Content with Squid

  We have setup our network as per the tutorial here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Upside-Down-TernetHowTo. Basically, we have a squid proxy that inverts images for pages that clients request. We're trying to modify the script so that we can edit the contents of the webpage before the webpage is sent to the client. We are not having any luck. I'm wondering if there is something different about .html files that makes this not possible. What is happening is that we do a wget on the URI that is requested, save it locally, modify it and then echo back the new URI. The page that the user gets is the unmodified page and not the one that we just changed.

  I need to change only the revision number of an AssemblyInfo.cs file. The version number is in the format Major.Minor.Build.Revision e.g. 1.4.6.0. Currently I change the version with the FileUpdate task (from the MSBuild Community Tasks Project) and the following regex: <FileUpdate Files="@(AssemblyResult)" Regex='(\[\s*assembly:\s*AssemblyVersion\(\s*"[^\.]+\.[^\.]+)\.([^\.]+)(\.)([^\.]+)("\)\s*\])' ReplacementText='[assembly: AssemblyVersion("$(AssemblyMajorNumber).$(AssemblyMinorNumber).$(AssemblyBuildNumber).$(Revision)")]' /> Now I need to update only the revision number and leave major,minor and build unchanged. So, is there any task to do this? Or can it be done with a regex? What would be the regular expression then?

• User Interface functionality modelling languages?

  I am looking for a UI functionality modelling language (UML-alike "thing", but for user interfaces) that is already accepted and maybe has its design patterns and handles the problem better than state or activity diagram. (If there is no such thing I'm planning to develop that BTW :)) This question came to mind as a result of a discovery that UML and its diagrams fails at describing complicated UI functionality with event-driven flow of execution (ie. javascript/jQuery big projects) EDIT: I've been thinking of using BPMN but It was not created for this purpose. • Linq To Sql: Compiled Queries and Extension Methods

  Hi community, I'm interessted, how does Linq2Sql handles a compiled query, that returns IQueryable. If I call an extension method based on a compiled query like "GetEntitiesCompiled().Count()" or "GetEntitiesCompiled().Take(x)". What does Linq2Sql do in the background? This would be very bad, so in this situation I should write a compiled query like "CountEntitiesCompiled". Does he load the result (in this case "GetEntitiesCompiled()") into the memory (mapped to the entity class like "ToList()")? So what situations make sense, when the compiled queries return IQueryable, that query is not able to modify, before request to the Sql-Server. So in my opinion I can just as good return List. • Correct Response For Questions Regarding Lack Of College Degree

  I've managed to land two programming jobs so far with a partial college degree. One was an internship/co-op type position that turned full-time, while the other is contract work I've received mainly via circumstance. I have an interview forthcoming (my roommate works at the company) and they have already asked him why I have not completed my degree. I hold the position of concierge manager, spa manager and special events coordinator. So I would like to come up with a job title that would encompass the three areas. Some obvious parts that are needed: grails-app directory test directory web-app directory Now we reach questions like: If we use a Grails plug-in (like gldapo), do we need to check in that plugin? Do Grails plugins install in the Grails directory, or your project? I'm not looking to start a religious war about .project, so please ignore that, but are there any "hidden" project files I need to worry about, along with the plugin issues? • Security precautions and techniques for a User-submitted Code Demo Area

  Hey folks Maybe this isn't really feasible. But basically, I've been developing a snippet-sharing website and I would like it to have a 'live demo area'. For example, you're browsing some snippets and click the Demo button. A new window pops up which executes the web code. I understand there are a gazillion security risks involved in doing this - XSS, tags, nasty malware/drive by downloads, pr0n, etc. etc. etc. The community would be able to flag submissions that are blatantly naughty but obviously some would go undetected (and, in many cases, someone would have to fall victim to discover whatever nasty thing was submitted). So I need to know: What should I do - security wise - to make sure that users can submit code, but that nothing malicious can be run - or executed offsite, etc? For your information my site is powered by PHP using CodeIgniter. Jack

• QAbstractTableModel as a model for one QTableView and few QListViews

  community. Briefly. I wrote usual model over QAbstractTableModel and using it in usual way for QTableView. But I think I need to use some columns of this model for the few QListViews in QWizard to fill main table in the right way (for user). For example: use the column2 as the QListView's model on the page1 of the wizard; column3 for page2 for its QListView etc. Please, help me to understand just two things: Am I on the right way? If yes then how can I make it simply and explicitly?

• How to improve IntelliJ code editor speed?

  I am using IntelliJ (Community Edition) for several months, and at first I'm pleased about its speed & simplicity. But now, after upgrading to version 10, it's extremely slow. Sometimes I click a file then it takes 5 - 15 seconds to open that file (it freeze for that time). I don't know if I have done anything which cause that: I have installed 2 plugins(regex, sql), and have 2 versions of IntelliJ on my machine (now the version 9 removed, only version 10 remains). Is there any tips to improve speed of code editor, in general, or specifically IntelliJ? I have some experience when using IntelliJ: 1. Should open IntelliJ a while before working, cause it needs time for indexing. Don't open too many code tabs Open as less other program as possible. I'm using 2 GB RAM WinXP, and it just seems fairly enough for Java, IntelliJ & Chrome at the same time.

• Cyclic References and WCF

  I have generated my POCO entities using POCO Generator, I have more than 150+ tables in my database. I am sharing POCO entities all across the application layers including the client. I have disabled both LazyLoading and ProxyCreation in my context.I am using WCF on top of my data access and business layer. Now, When I return a poco entity to my client, I get an error saying "Underlying connection was closed" I enabled WCF tracing and found the exact error : Contains cycles and cannot be serialized if reference tracking is disabled. I Looked at MSDN and found solutions like setting IsReference=true in the DataContract method atttribute but I am not decorating my POCO classes with DataContracts and I assume there is no need of it as well. I won't be calling that as a POCO if I decorate a class with DataContract attribute Then, I found solutions like applying custom attribute [CyclicReferenceAware] over my ServiceContracts.That did work but I wanted to throw this question to community to see how other people managed this and also why Microsoft didn't give built in support for figuring out cyclic references while serializing POCO classes
