• Making Eclipse behave like Visual Studio

  I'm doing some Android dev, and I much prefer Visual Studio, but I'll have to use Eclipse for this. Has anyone made a tool that switches Eclipse to look and behave more like visual studio? I mainly can't stand its clippyesqe suggestions on how I should program (Yes, I know I have not yet used that private field! Thanks Eclipse!), or its incredibly lousy intellisense. For example, in eclipse, if I don't type "this" first, its intellisense won't realize I want to look for locally scoped members. Also, the TAB to complete VS convention is drilled into my head, and Eclipse is ENTER to complete, I could switch everything by hand but that would take hours, and I was hoping someone had some sort of theme or something that has already done it :)

• Extracting a Rails application into a plugin or engine

  I have a Rails 2.3 application which I would like to extract into a plugin, or engine. The application has user authentication, and basic cms capabilities supported by ancestry plugin. I want to extract the logic for the application into a plugin/engine so that I can use this code for future projects, with a different "skin" or "theme" if required. I'm not entirely sure I actually understand the difference between plugin and engine concepts, so that would be a good first point. What is the best approach, are there any good starting points, links, explanations, examples that I should follow. Also, with the release of R3 to consider, is there anything that I should be aware of for that, with regards to plugins etc. I am going to start off by watching Ryan's http://railscasts.com/episodes/149-rails-engines but obviously thats over a year old now, so one of the challenges I'm faced with is finding the most up to date and relevant information on this subject. All tips and help gratefully received.

• Mod_Rewrite: Testing URL got indexed in Google - How do I create a proper 301 redirect?

  I worked on a website for which I had a "development URL" that looked something like this: www.domainname.com.php5-9.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com/ Now, several weeks after the website launch, there is at least one page of content indexed on Google with that URL. Question: How do I redirect all requests from that test URL to reroute to the actual domain? So, for instance, I would want: www.domainname.com.php5-9.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com/page-name To go to: www.domainname.com/page-name The website is powered by WordPress and hosted on a PHP server. I've experimented with .htaccess without much success.

• Which Maven Glassfish plugin to use?

  I've been trying to integrate deploying java .war's in Glassfish V3 through Maven. While I have found a few plugins, none of them look to be very active: Maven Glassfish Plugin Eskato's Wordpress Blog on Maven And I got the most information out of Eskato's Blog, it was written March 2008, so I don't know what the state of Glassfish Maven integration is, nor can I find a suitable plugin to work with. With the Maven Glassfish Plugin I have had some success, but it still doesn't work entirely well for all goals it says it supports, which makes some of the commands ineffective. Has anyone else been able to integrate Glassfish V3 and Maven successfully? If so, what resources did you use to get it done?

• Zip up groups of webpages for viewing in the browser

  I think there should be a standard for saving and viewing bunches of webpages as a website. For instance, say I have a whole bunch of pages, such as I get from the WordPress plugin "Really Static" (which saves the entire site), and I have all the links start with a slash (to make linking to supporting files easier). Now, I can't really use those links if I am reading it from the file system. If there would be a standard where we could zip up files, give them a unique extension (like "hzip" for html zip), and open the file with any browser, which would display it as though the root of that file were the root of the pages. "file://examplefile.hzip/" The links would then all work. This would really help sharing and copying groups of webpages. Is this a good idea? A bad one? What do you think?

• Android views' borders issue on some devices

  Hi there, Some users have been reporting border alignment issues on some android components such as the alert popup or the editTexts. This is happening on the Samsung Galaxy Apollo (200x400) and the HTC Pro Touch (480x640) devices. I cannot replicate that because i don't own those devices and in the Samsung Galaxy S and emulator everything looks just right. I think that the problem is the dpi or resolution of the device (because the edittext background is a single .9.png so image should look ok); however I am not sure if the supports-screens tag is the solution. Also, application was developed using Api 3 (v1.5) and supports-screens was not yet supported, nor the screen-size resource qualifier. The style used for the alerts and editText is the phone default. Could the problem be something related with the theme applied to the phone by the user? • NSColor, 10.6 and Gamma 2.2

  With Snow Leopard the default gamma changed from 1.8 to 2.2. I happen to be working on a few Mac apps that use a very dark custom colour scheme provided by Cocoa. On 10.5 it looks fine but on 10.6 with the new gamma it's much darker and really hard on the eyes. The colour scheme is defined using numerous [NSColor colorWithCalibratedRed:green:blue:alpha:] objects within a theme class. Is there any way to 'convert' an NSColor object so that it displays on 10.6 exactly as it would on 10.5 with the old 1.8 gamma? I know this can be achieved globally from within System Preferences but that's not what I'm after.

  my partner and i are launching a social learning platform - the requirements have been mapped out and are quite basic/intuitive. we are familiar with html/css, and have some very basic understanding of php, but we would love some feedback on whether we should tackle this ourselves or not. we've built websites, but in the past relied mostly on pre-fab code, i.e. wordpress, ning, etc. we've been looking specifically at ruby for developing the network, but i haven't delved into it fully yet. we're looking for some guidance and feedback - e.g. thoughts on ruby on rails? what's the learning curve? are we getting in over our heads? thanks in advance!

• How to get flash player to display under content on a PC?

  Long story short, I'm developing a theme template for a blog that enables you to view the posts in blocks. The main part of the post is displayed at first, then the secondary content is displayed over that when you hover over the post block. Everything works fine on a Mac Versions of all major browsers, but start browsing on a PC, and all hell breaks loose when you start trying to display content over Flash Video embeds. The flash element remains visible over the content. It's completely unusable. From a PC, you can view an example of the problem here: http://photorific.tumblr.com I'm almost certain this is a bug in the Flash Plugin for Windows, but I was wondering if anyone else had come across this problem before, and if there were any solutions. • Most "thorough" distribution of points around a circle

  This question is intended to both abstract and focus one approach to my problem expressed at "Find the most colourful image in a collection of images". Imagine we have a set of circles, each has a number of points around its circumference. We want to find a metric that gives a higher rating to a circle with points distributed evenly around the circle. Circles with some points scattered through the full 360° are better but circles with far greater numbers of points in one area compared to a smaller number in another area are less good. The number of points is not limited. Two or more points may coincide. Coincidental points are still relevant. A circle with one point at 0° and one point at 180° is better than a circle with 100 points at 0° and 1000 points at 180°. A circle with one point every degree around the circle is very good. A circle with a point every half degree around the circle is better. In my other (colour based question) it was suggested that standard deviation would be useful but with caveat. Is this a good suggestion and does it cope with the closeness of 359° to 1°?

• Drupal 6: Nice_menus module at navigation block.

• How to get or make a WPF WebBrowser with a visual.

  Having problems related to WPF WebBrowser not having a visual. Reason being, that it actually a wrapper around the winforms browser. Plus, the dll's should be licensed for commercial use. The second one seems simple, but not able to figure out when to refresh the screen. Plus there's so much to do like sending mouse and keyboard messages to the webbrowser. P.S. The problem I'm trying to solve is to show the same webbrowser on different windows. They both must be interactive, and always in sync visually.

• When is a Google Maps API key required?

  Recently Google changed it's policy on the use API keys. You're now supposed to no longer need an API key to place Google Maps on your website. And this worked perfectly. But now I have this map (without API key) running on my localhost, which works fine. But as soon as I place it online, I get a popup saying that I need another API key. And on another page on that website, Google Maps does work. Could it maybe have something to do with that the map that doesn't work have a lot (30+) of markers on it? Actually using an API key wouldn't be a very nice solution to me, as this is part of a Wordpress plugin used on many websites.

• PHP elseif statement not executed even though initial if statement is false

  I am writing a recursive function to print out the differences between 2 multildimensional php arrays. The purpose of this code is to see the difference between jpeg headers to deteremine how adobe bridge cs3 is saving rating information within the jpg file. When I am single-stepping through the code using my eclipse - zend debugger ide, it appears that even though the initial if statement is false (ie both values are arrays), the subsequent elseif statements are never executed. • CSS Only Selecting Certain Classes

  Hi I'm working with a Wordpress template. I have a separate template page for the blog section. On the other pages of the site I have class that works fine and looks like this .post header h2 { display:none; } On the blog page, I add this to the CSS and it works as it should #main .post header h2 { display:block; } However if I try that with other classes like #main .wrapper { background-color:#000000; } Nothing happens. • Making Image On Top?

  How do I make an image appear on the top of a page and not showing up in the listing post of my upcoming website: www.xternalit.co.uk? Example: when i type: abcdefg then "more option" then below "more option", id have an image. When the user click on "read more" they will see "abcdefg the an image. I dont want that. I want when they click on "read more" they would see the image first and then "abcdefg". Is this possible with a plugin or tweaking of my template? Cheers! PS: can a mod change the tag from php to wordpress? wont work 4 me.

• PHP float bug: PHP Hangs On Numeric Value

  I just read an interesting article about php hanging on certain float numbers, see The Register and Exploring Binary. I never explicitly use floats, I use number_format() to clean my input and display for example prices. Also, as far as I am aware, all input from for example forms are strings until I tell them otherwise so I am supposing that this problem does not affect me. Am I right, or do I need to check for example Wordpress and Squirrelmail installations on my server to see if they cast anything to float? Or better, grep all php files on my servers for float?

  I'm trying to use the jQuery UI Slider with my rails 3 app. I've downloaded a theme and put the css file in app/assets/stylesheet and I put all the images in app/assets/images. When I load a page with a slider, I get an error that it can't find an image: GET http://10.1.10.100:3000/assets/images/ui-bg_glass_45_0078ae_1x400.png 404 (Not Found) That file is in app/assets/images/ and the css file has been edited to point to ../images/<image> Is there something else I need to do to make a jQuery slider work with Rails 3? gist with the files: https://gist.github.com/2355571

• Compare TinyMCE and CKeditor for a Wiki

  For a custom wiki django-wakawaka, i want to be able to add a WYSIWYG support. TinyMCE is obviously the most popular plugin, used even by Wordpress. But CK-editor seems more feature full. Those who have used either of these or both, which is better and why. Are there some better packages, that I am missing? Is there something that I am missing when I conclude CKeditor is better, by going through them (because it is not as widely used). I want to use it with django and jquery, with multiple instances of WYSIWYG widget per page. Does one offer advantage over the other.

  Hello I would like to start developing a lifeRay theme and am a little bit lost! I am a Mac user and i have installed liferay and also Xcode but i am not clear how to begin. I have downloaded the SDK for liferay but i do not understand how to install it or use it for that matter, so questions: Is Xcode an appropriate development environment to work with or is something else a little easier to get on with? Does Xcode build in the same way ANT does? How do i install the SDK? Do i just drop it into Tomcat and away i go? Yes i am very new to all this!! • Unstyled web page in IE6. Not FOUC

  I have a very interesting issue with one of the websites I created. It renders fine in Safari, Chrome, Opera, FF, IE7&8 but IE6 does not seem to recognize my stylesheet. I'm not using @import for loading, so it's not a case a FOUC. The website is using Wordpress but never had an issue like this before with WP.
