  • Which Javascript history back implementation is the best?

    There are implementations for history.back in Micrososft AJAX and jQuery (http://www.asual.com/jquery/address/). I already have jQuery and asp.net ajax included in my project but I am not sure which implementation of history.back is better. Better for me is: Already used by some large projects Wide browser support Easy to implement Little footprint Does anybody know which one is better? EDIT: Another jquery plugin is http://plugins.jquery.com/project/history It is recommmended in the book JQuery Cookbook. This one worked well so far.

  • Best method for converting several sets of numbers with several different ratios

    I'm working on an open-source harm reduction application for opioid addicts. One of the features in this application is the conversion (in mg/mcg) between common opioids, so people don't overdose by accident. If you're morally against opioid addiction and wouldn't respond because of your morals, please consider that this application is for HARM REDUCTION.. So people don't end up dead. I have this data.. 3mg morphine IV = 10mcg fentanyl IV 2mg morphine oral = 1mg oxycodone oral 3mg oral morphine = 1mg oxymorphone oral 7.0mg morphine oral = 1mg hydromorphone oral 1mg morphine iv = .10mg oxymorphone iv 1mg morphine oral = 1mg hydrocodone oral 1mg morphine oral = 6.67mg codeine oral 1mg morphine oral = .10mg methadone oral And I have a textbox that is the source dosage in mg (a double) that the user can enter in. Underneath this, I have radio boxes for the source substance (ie: morphine) and the destination substance (ie oxycodone) for conversion.. I've been trying to think of the most efficient way to do this, but nearly every seems sloppy. If I were to do something like public static double MorphinetoOxycodone(string morphineValue) { double morphine = Double.Parse(morphineValue); return (morphine / 2 ); } I would also have to make a function for OxycodonetoMorphine, OxycodonetoCodeine, etc.. and then would end up with dozens functions.. There must be an easier way than this that I'm missing. If you'll notice, all of my conversions use morphine as the base value.. what might be the easiest way to use the morphine value to convert one opioid to another? For example, if 1mg morphine oral is equal to 1mg hydrocodone and 1mg morphine oral is equal to .10mg methadone, wouldn't I just multiply 1*.10 to get the hydrocodone-methadone value? Implementing this idea is what I'm having the most trouble with. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.. and if you'd like, I would add your name/nickname to the credits in this program. It's possible that many, many people around the world will use this (I'm translating it into several languages as well) and to know that your work could've helped an addict from dying..     I am about enjoy a two week break in Spain where I expect to have lots of time for relaxing and reading. I normally read a lot of non-fiction so I'm looking for novel suggestions. If there is another Cryptonomicon out there I'd love to hear about it! UPDATE: In the end I took four books including Quicksilver. Quicksilver was fantastic and I look forward to continuing the series. I was disappointed with Gen X (Coupland) and Pattern Recognition (Gibson). Upon arrival I also found The Monsters Of Gramercy Park (Leigh) which was enjoyable though sad. Thanks for all the recommendations, I'm sure to return to this list when I have more free time.

    Hi, i am planning to upload a video tutorial on a particular software technology. The size of the videos will be around 600 MB's to say 1 GB. I am putting it for free for anyone to download. Is there any site/blog where i can put it.I am planning to divide the videos in parts and zip them. Does blogger or any other cms allow me to upload to there sites and put download links? Or is buying web space the only option? I am not keen on using youtube as i clearly want the user to download by clicking on links and not watch them online. Also i was thinking of just uploading the videos on rapidshare/megaupload/mediafire... and put just links on a blogger post. Any suggestion from you guys?

I can code simple things using apple script but you can't do that much with that and it only works on macs. I have a mac and a dell so something that I could code and run on both would be nice.   • PostgreSQL - best way to return an array of key-value pairs

    I'm trying to select a number of fields, one of which needs to be an array with each element of the array containing two values. Each array item needs to contain a name (character varying) and an ID (numeric). I know how to return an array of single values (using the ARRAY keyword) but I'm unsure of how to return an array of an object which in itself contains two values. The query is something like SELECT t.field1, t.field2, ARRAY(--with each element containing two values i.e. {'TheName', 1 }) FROM MyTable t I read that one way to do this is by selecting the values into a type and then creating an array of that type. Problem is, the rest of the function is already returning a type (which means I would then have nested types - is that OK? If so, how would you read this data back in application code - i.e. with a .Net data provider like NPGSQL?) Any help is much appreciated.

    I need a collection data-structure that can do the following: Be sorted Allow me to quickly pop values off the front and back of the list Remain sorted after I insert a new value Allow a user-specified comparison function, as I will be storing tuples and want to sort on a particular value Thread-safety is not required Optionally allow efficient haskey() lookups (I'm happy to maintain a separate hash-table for this though) My thoughts at this stage are that I need a priority queue and a hash table, although I don't know if I can quickly pop values off both ends of a priority queue. I'm interested in performance for a moderate number of items (I would estimate less than 200,000). Another possibility is simply maintaining an OrderedDictionary and doing an insertion sort it every-time I add more data to it. Furthermore, are there any particular implementations in Python. I would really like to avoid writing this code myself.

  • Best way to play MIDI sounds using C#

    I'm trying to rebuild an old metronome application that was originally written using MFC in C++ to be written in .NET using C#. One of the issues I'm running into is playing the midi files that are used to represent the metronome "clicks". I've found a few articles online about playing MIDI in .NET, but most of them seem to rely on custom libraries that someone has cobbled together and made available. I'm not averse to using these, but I'd rather understand for myself how this is being done, since it seems like it should be a mostly trivial exercise. So, am I missing something? Or is it just difficult to use MIDI inside of a .NET application?

    Does anyone know of a Reporting Engine for WPF? Most of the ones I could find are still for WinForms. I'm happy enough using a WinForms one in WPF with a WinForms host so long as the tool has a UserControl that can be embedded in a window. Also, I'm not using a database and all my data is in XML so the Reporting Engine needs to be able to handle that. Any suggestions?

  • Best implementation for MySQL replication with Rails 3?

    We're looking at potentially setting up replication for our primary MySQL database, and while setting up the replication seems pretty straight-forward, the application implementation seems a bit murkier. My first idea would be to set up a master-slave configuration and RW-splitting, with all write queries (CREATE, INSERT, UPDATE) going to master, and all read queries (SELECT) going to slave. Having read up on it, it seems that there are essentially two options for how to implement this with our app: Using an independent middleware layer for all MySQL connections, such as MySQL proxy or DBSlayer. However, the former is in Alpha and the latter has limited documentation. Using a Ruby-based gem/plugin, such as Octopus to achieve RW-splitting in the framework. If we wanted to go with a master-slave setup, what you recommend moving forward? The other thought I've had was to use a master-master configuration, but am unsure about the implementation of such a setup. Thoughts?

Having said that, I researched a lot on how to properly plug-in Linq2Sql in application design. what to put at what layer ? How do you design your repositories and business layer services ? Should I use DTOs over Linq2Sql entities on interaction layer ? what things should I be careful about ? what problems did you face ? I did not find any rock-solid material that really talked about one single thing and everyone have their own opinions. I'm looking forward to your ideas on how to integrate/use Linq2Sql in projects. My priority is maintenance[it should be maintenable and when multiple people work on same project] and scalabilty [it should have scope of evolution]. Thanks.

Turns out my teamleader has been skilling up the indians behind my back even though I've been spending time and effort preparing a formal handover (to describe the design decisions and why). It just breeds lack of trust and sends the wrong message about the value of my work. Now I'm too furious to even talk to anyone. Do I sit in silence for the next 3 weeks waiting for my transfer?

    I have a site of about 60 tabular report pages. Want to convert this to Zend. The report has two states: empty report and filled in with data report. Each report has its own set of input boxes and select drop downs to narrow down searches. You click on submit and it retrieves the data. Thats all each page does. Do I create 60 controllers with each one with default index action and getData action? All I have read online do not really describe how to architect a real site.

  • Best way to detect similar email addresses?

    I have a list of ~20,000 email addresses, some of which I know to be fraudulent attempts to get around a "1 per e-mail" limit. ([email protected], [email protected], [email protected], etc...). I want to find similar email addresses for evaluation. Currently I'm using a levenshtein algorithm to check each e-mail against the others in the list and report any with an edit distance of less than 2. However, this is painstakingly slow. Is there a more efficient approach?
