  • CUDA: accumulate data into a large histogram of floats

    I'm trying to think of a way to implement the following algorithm using CUDA: Working on a large volume of voxels, for each voxel I calculate an index i and a value c. after the calculation I need to perform histogram[i] += c c is a float value and the histogram can have up to 15,000 bins. I'm looking for a way to implement this efficiently using CUDA. The first obvious problem is that with compute capabilities 1.3 which is what I'm using I can't even do an atomicAdd() of floats so how can I accumulate anything reliably? This example by nVidia does something somewhat simpler. The histograms are saved in the shared memory (which I can't do due to its size) and it only accumulates integers. Can this approach be generalized to my case?

    Hi, I need some ideas for a weekend project about Hadoop and OpenStreetMap. I have access to AWS EC2 instance with OpenStreetMap snapshot in my EBS volume. The OpenStreetMap data is in a PostgreSQL database. What kind of MapReduce function can be run on the OpenStreetMap data, assuming I can export them into xml format, and then place into HDFS ? In other words, I am having a brain cramp at the moment, and cannot think what kind of MapReduce operation that can extract valuable insight from the OpenStreetMap xml? (i.e. extract all the places designated as park or golf course. But this needs to be done once only, not continuously) Many Thanks

  • MediaElement.Position behaviour and Windows Phone 7 issue

    I have a problem, I have written a simple Media Player for Windows Phone 7 and can Play, Stop and control the Volume of a Video (loaded from a URI) however when I try to set the position, this causes the application to freeze. I have used both these lines, but either does not work: Player.Position = new TimeSpan(0, 0, 0, 0, (int)Position.Value); Player.Position = TimeSpan.FromSeconds((int)(Position.Value)); I do have this event handler: void Player_MediaOpened(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { Position.Maximum = Player.NaturalDuration.TimeSpan.TotalMilliseconds; } And have tried using the Seconds value, casting to Ints etc, however everytime I try to set the Position, the app freezes. The video otherwise plays normally - anyone know what the problem may be here?

  • Refactoring method with many conditional return statements

    Hi, I have a method for validation that has many conditional statements. Basically it goes If Check1 = false return false If Check2 = false return false etc FxCop complains that the cyclomatic complexity is too high. I know that it is not best practice to have return statements in the middle of functions, but at the same time the only alternative I see is an ugly list of If-else statements. What is the best way to approach this? Thanks in advance.

  • How to put a div above flash file ?

    Hi , I used jquery tools tooltip and i positioned icons 30 px under flash banner . The problem is when i hover icons , tooltips hide under flash banner , I gave high z-index to the tooltip div or other parent div in order position that above flash banner, but no difference . Is there any way to overcome this problem ? At the bottom picture , The green section is flash file and as you can see part of tooltip is hidden

  • Are there free realtime financial data feeds since the demise of OpenQuant?

    Now that the oligopole of market data providers successfully killed OpenQuant, does any alternative to proprietary and expensive subscriptions for realtime market data subsist? Ideally I would like to be able to monitor tick by tick securities from the NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX (about 6000 symbols). Most vendors put a limit of 500 symbols watchable at the same time, this is unacceptable to me, even if one can imagine a rotation among the 500 symbols ie. making windows of 5 sec. of effective observation out of each minute for every symbol. Currently I'm doing this by a Java thread pool calling Google Finance, but this is unsatisfactory for several reasons, one being that Google doesn't return the volume traded. Clicking the Flash container in Firefox will work Perfectly fine. You should get alert boxes in this order containing: span, div and body. Flash bubbles the event to the HTML. But this is not happening in IE. So why is Flash in IE not bubbling events to HTML? Edit: As mentioned by Andy E this behavior can also bee seen in Google Chrome which to my knowledge is not using ActiveX to embed the flash movie into the page.

Some of my requirements are: real time plotting, 3D (waterfall), multiple axis, ability to accept BindingList as a data source and recognize any changes to the data.     I'm using the quantmod package to import financial series data from Yahoo. library(quantmod) getSymbols("^GSPC") [1] "GSPC" I'd like to change the name of object "GSPC" to "SPX". I've tried the rename function in the reshape package, but it only changes the variable names. The "GSPC" object has vectors GSPC.Open, GSPC.High, etc. I'd like my renaming of "GSPC" to "SPX" to also change GSPC.Open to SPX.Open and so on.

I also have a few pages (like the about page), that need high priority, but which I've implemented with the django flatpages framework. Is it possible for pages created this way to have a higher priority in the sitemap?

  • Using a DataSet instead of custom business entities in soa and n-tier architecture

    I’m working on a large and a high volume transactional enterprise application which has been designed using n-tire application architecture .And it was developed in the .NET platform utilizing C#,VB.NEt, Framework 3.5, ObjectDataSources, DataSet, WCF, asp.net update panel, JavaScript ,JSON, 3rd Party tools. The application is supposed to accomplish a really scalable / easily maintained / robust application / integrations, and to make sure that my services are created using a format that can be understood by other systems. The problem is, this application is about 70% complete but now I was wondering if the following would cause us future issues, I’m using a DataSet and a DataTable to (get /set) the data (form /to) the stored procedure in the database using the ObjectDataSources and was wondering if this would prevent my application from achieving the above goals. Actually, I am not anti-OO. I write lots of classes for different purposes, but I didn’t use the entity objects(custom business entities) instead of the previous way because I have a large database that may contain 50 tables and I was just afraid to create entities for each table and then in the future if I need to change the schema of the database, it might cause a huge affect on the application ?

  • Faster bulk inserts in sqlite3?

    I have a file of about 30000 lines of data I want to load into a sqlite3 database. Is there a faster way that generating insert statements for each line of data? The data is space delimited and maps directly to the sqlite3 table. Is there any sort of bulk insert method for adding volume data to a database? Has anyone devised some deviously wonderful way of doing this if it's not built in? I should preface this by asking is there a c++ way to do it from the API? Thanks.

  • database splitting; multiple tables

    I am coding a classifieds ad web app. What is the optimal way to structure the database for this? Because of the high repeatability, would it be faster (in terms of searching/indexing) to have a separate table in the database for each city? Or would it be okay to just have one table for every city (it would have a lot of rows..). The classifieds table has id, user_id, city_name, category,[description and detail fields].
