  • Setting nested object to null when combobox has empty value

    Hello, I have a Class which models a User and another which models his country. Something like this: public class User{ private Country country; //other attributes and getter/setters } public class Country{ private Integer id; private String name; //other attributes and getter/setters } I have a Spring form where I have a combobox so the user can select his country or can select the undefined option to indicate he doen't want to provide this information. So I have something like this: <form:select path="country"> <form:option value="">-Select one-</form:option> <form:options items="${countries}" itemLabel="name" itemValue="id"/> </form:select> In my controller I get the autopopulated object with the user information and I want to have country set to null when the "-Select one-" option has been selected. So I have set a initBinder with a custom editor like this: @InitBinder protected void initBinder(WebDataBinder binder) throws ServletException { binder.registerCustomEditor(Country.class, "country", new CustomCountryEditor()); } and my editor do something like this: public class CustomCountryEditor(){ @Override public String getAsText() { //I return the Id of the country } @Override public void setAsText(String str) { //I search in the database for a country with id = new Integer(str) //and set country to that value //or I set country to null in case str == null } } When I submit the form it works because when I have country set to null when I have selected "-Select one-" option or the instance of the country selected. The problem is that when I load the form I have a method like the following one to load the user information. @ModelAttribute("user") public User getUser(){ //loads user from database } The object I get from getUser() has country set to a specific country (not a null value), but in the combobox is not selected any option. I've debugged the application and the CustomCountryEditor works good when setting and getting the text, thoughgetAsText method is called for every item in the list "countries" not only for the "country" field. Any idea? Is there a better way to set null the country object when I select no country option in the combobox? Thanks

  • ASP.NET MVC Model Binding into a List

    In my ASP.NET MVC site, part of a feature allows the user to enter the hours when a certain venue is open. I've decided to store these hours in a VenueHours table in my database, with a FK-to-PK relationship to a Venues table, as well as DayOfWeek, OpeningTime, and ClosingTime parameters. In my View, I want to allow the user to only input the times they know about; in other words, some days may not be filled in for a Venue. I'm thinking of creating checkboxes that the user can check to enable the OpeningTime and ClosingTime fields for the DayOfWeek that the checkbox belongs to. My question relates to how to pass this information to my HttpPost Controller Action. As I know the maximum amount of Days that can be passed in (7), I could of course just write 7 nullable VenueHour parameters into my Action, but I'm sure there's a better way. Can I somehow bind the View information into a List that is passed to my Action? This will also help me if I run into a scenario where there is no limit to how much information the user can fill in.

  • WCF Service in Azure with ClaimsIdentity over SSL

    Hello , Created a WCF service as a WebRole using Azure and a client windows application which refers to this service. The Cloud Service is refered to a certificate which is created using the "Hands On Lab" given in windows identity foundation. The Web Service is hosted in IIS and it works perfect when executed. I've created a client windows app which refers to this web service. Since WIF Claims identity is used, I have a claimsAuthorizationManager Class, and also a Policy class with set of defilned policies. The Claims is set in the web.config file. When I execute the windows app as the start up project, the app prompts for authentication, and when the account credentials are given as in the config file, it opens a new "Windows Card Space" Window and Says "Incoming Policy Failed". When I close the window the System throws and Exception The incoming policy could not be validated. For more information, please see the event log.     Hello, I'm having some problems trying to perform a query. I have two tables, one with elements information, and another one with records related with the elements of the first table. The idea is to get in the same row the element information plus several records information. Would be possible in anyway to do a subquery and reuse it?   • Should we develop a custom membership provider in this case?

I wont accept an answer until I can add a bounty so feel free to go ahead and answer now Summary Long story short, we've been tasked with gutting the authentication and authorization parts of a fairly old and bloated asp.net application that previously had all of these components written from scratch. Since our application isn't a typical one, and none of us have experience in asp.net's built in membership provider stuff, we're not sure if we should roll our own authentication and authorization again or if we should try to work within the asp.net membership provider mindset and develop our own membership provider. Our Application We have a fairly old asp.net application that gets installed at customer locations to service clients on a LAN. Admins create users (users do not sign up) and depending on the install, we may have the software integrated with LDAP. Currently, the LDAP integration bulk-imports the users to our database and when they login, it authenticates against LDAP so we dont have to manage their passwords. Nothing amazing there. Admins can assign users to 1 group and they can change the authorization of that group to manage access to various parts of the software. Groups are maintained by Admins (web based UI) and as said earlier, granted / denied permissions to certain functionality within the application. All this was completely written from the ground up without using any of the built in .net authorization or authentication. We literally have IsLoggedIn() methods that check for login and redirect to our login page if they aren't. Our Rewrite We've been tasked to integrate more tightly with LDAP, they want us to tie groups in our application to groups (or whatever types of containers that LDAP uses) in LDAP so that when a customer opt's to use our LDAP integration, they dont have to manage their users in LDAP AND in our application. The new way, they will simply create users in LDAP, add them to Groups in LDAP and our application will see that they belong to the appropriate LDAP group and authenticate and authorize them. In addition, we've been granted the go ahead to completely rip out the User authentication and authorization code and completely re-do it. Our Problem The problem is that none of us have any experience with asp.net membership provider functionality. The little bit of exposure I have to it makes me worry that it was not intended to be used for an application such as ours. Though, developing our own ASP.NET Membership Provider and Role Manager sounds like it would be a great experience and most likely the appropriate thing to do. Basically, I'm looking for advice, should we be using the ASP.NET Membership provider & Role Management API or should we continue to roll our own? I know this decision will be influenced by our requirements so I'm going over them below Our Requirements Just a quick n dirty list Maintain the ability to have a db of users and authenticate them and give admins (only, not users) the ability to CRUD users Allow the site to integrate with LDAP, when this is chosen, they don't want any users stored in the DB, only the relationship between Groups as they exist in our app / db and the Groups/Containers as they exist in LDAP. .net 3.5 is being used (mix of asp.net webforms and asp.net mvc) Has to work in ASP.NET and ASP.NET MVC (shouldn't be a problem I'm guessing) This can't be user centric, administrators need to be the only ones that CRUD (or import via ldap) users and groups We have to be able to Auth via LDAP when its configured to do so I always try to monitor my questions closely so feel free to ask for more info. Also, as a general summary of what I'm looking for in an answer is just. "You should/shouldn't use xyz, here's why".   • How do I pass arguments to pages in a WPF application?

    I'm working on upgrading a really old VB6 app to a WPF application. This will be a page-based app, but not a XBAP. The old VB6 app had a start form where a user would enter search criteria. Then they would get results in a grid, select a row in the grid and then click on one of 3 buttons. I am thinking that what I'll do is use hyperlink controls on the WPF app. No matter what button the user clicked on the old VB6 app, it would go to a second form. What it did on the second form was dependent upon which button the user clicked on the first form. So, I want the first page in my WPF app to do the same thing, but depending upon which hyperlink they click on will dictate what happens on the second page. They will either (a) go to the second page to edit the details as well as a lot more information, related to what they selected on the first page, or (b) enter a new record and all associated data (a new client, in this case), or (c) create a new case for the same client, selected on the first page. For me the hard thing is I don't know how to pass that information along to the second page. Is there something in WPF like in HTML where there's a query string? Or how do you get information from the first page to the second page, in WPF? I'm working in VS 2008.

    There is a good tutorial of creation of Sharepoint 2010 My-sites here. In my environment I can't get the connection to Active Directory work, as it fails with: "An operation error occurred." There is a text "For Active Directory connections to work, this account must have directory sync rights." but I don't know what that means... My question is: There is nothing in the Event Log. Where is the error-log? :-)

  • Seperation of game- and rendering logic

    What is the best way to seperate rendering code from the actually game engine/logic code? And is it even a good idea to seperate those? Let's assume we have a game object called Knight. The Knight has to be rendered on the screen for the user to see. We're now left with two choices. Either we give the Knight a Render/Draw method that we can call, or we create a renderer class that takes care of rendering all knights. In the scenario where the two is seperated the Knight should the knight still contain all the information needed to render him, or should this be seperated as well? In the last project we created we decided to let all the information required to render an object be stored inside the object itself, but we had a seperate component to actually read those informations and render the objects. The object would contain information such as size, rotation, scale, and which animation was currently playing and based on this the renderer object would compose the screen. Frameworks such as XNA seem to think joining the object and rendering is a good idea, but we're afraid to get tied up to a specific rendering framework, whereas building a seperate rendering component gives us more freedom to change framework at any given time.

    I am considering implementing some sort of Software Update Notification for one of the web applications I am developing. There are several questions I came across: Should the update check be executed on the client or on the server? Client-side means, the software retrieves the most current version information, performs its checks, and displays the update information. Server-side check means the software sends its version info to the server, which in turn does the calculations and returns information to the client. My guess is that server-side implementation may turn out to be more flexible and more powerful than client-side, as I can add functionality to the server easily, as long as the client understands it. Where should the update info be displayed? Is it ok to display on the login screen? Should only admins see it? (this is a web app with a database, so updating requires manipulation of db and web, which is only done by admins). What about a little beeping flashing icon which increases in size as the version gets more obsolete every day ;) ? Privacy issues Not everybody likes to have their app usage stats broadcast over the internet. TheOnion question: What do you think?

  • Persist changes in C

    I am developing a database-like application that stores a a structure containing: struct Dictionary { char *key; char *value; struct Dictionary *next; }; As you can see, I am using a linked list to store information. But the problem begins when the user exits out of the program. I want the information to be stored somewhere. So I was thinking of storing the linked list in a permanent or temporary file using fopen, then, when the user starts the program, retrieve the linked list. Here is the method that prints the linked list to the console: void PrintList() { int count = 0; struct Dictionary *current; current = head; if (current == NULL) { printf("\nThe list is empty!"); return; } printf(" Key \t Value\n"); printf(" ======== \t ========\n"); while (current != NULL) { count++; printf("%d. %s \t %s\n", count, current->key, current->value); current = current->next; } } So I am thinking of modifying this method to print the information through fprintf instead of printf and then the program would just get the infomation from the file. Could someone help me on how I can read and write to this file? What kind of file should it be, temporary or regular? How should I format the file (like I was thinking of just having the key first, then the value, then a newline character)?

  • Get directory path by fd

    I've run into the need to be able refer to a directory by path given its file descriptor in Linux. The path doesn't have to be canonical, it just has to be functional so that I can pass it to other functions. So, taking the same parameters as passed to a function like fstatat(), I need to be able to call a function like getxattr() which doesn't have a f-XYZ-at() variant. So far I've come up with these solutions; though none are particularly elegant. The simplest solution is to avoid the problem by calling openat() and then using a function like fgetxattr(). This works, but not in every situation. So another method is needed to fill the gaps. The next solution involves looking up the information in proc: if (!access("/proc/self/fd",X_OK)) { sprintf(path,"/proc/self/fd/%i/",fd); } This, of course, totally breaks on systems without proc, including some chroot environments. The last option, a more portable but potentially-race-condition-prone solution, looks like this: DIR* save = opendir("."); fchdir(fd); getcwd(path,PATH_MAX); fchdir(dirfd(save)); closedir(save); The obvious problem here is that in a multithreaded app, changing the working directory around could have side effects. However, the fact that it works is compelling: if I can get the path of a directory by calling fchdir() followed by getcwd(), why shouldn't I be able to just get the information directly: fgetcwd() or something. Clearly the kernel is tracking the necessary information. So how do I get to it?

  • Sorting Arrays by More the One Value, and Prioritizing the Sort based on Column data.

    I'm looking for a way to sort an array, based on the information in each row, based on the information in certain cells, that I'll call columns. Each row has columns that must be sorted based on the priority of: timetime, lapcount & timestamp. Each column cotains this information: split1, split2, split3, laptime, lapcount, timestamp. laptime if in hundredths of a second. (1:23.45 or 1 Minute, 23 Seconds & 45 Hundredths is 8345.) Lapcount is a simple unsigned tiny int, or unsigned char. timestamp is unix epoch. The lowest laptime should be at the get a better standing in this sort. Should two peoples laptimes equal, then timestamp will be used to give the better standing in this sort. Should two peoples timestamp equal, then the person with less of a lapcount get's the better standing in this sort. By better standing, I mean closer to the top of the array, closer to the index of zero where it a numerical array. I think the array sorting functions built into php can do this with a callback, I was wondering what the best approch was for a weighted sort like this would be.

  • iPhone and Core Data: how to retain user-entered data between updates?

    Consider an iPhone application that is a catalogue of animals. The application should allow the user to add custom information for each animal -- let's say a rating (on a scale of 1 to 5), as well as some notes they can enter in about the animal. However, the user won't be able to modify the animal data itself. Assume that when the application gets updated, it should be easy for the (static) catalogue part to change, but we'd like the (dynamic) custom user information part to be retained between updates, so the user doesn't lose any of their custom information. We'd probably want to use Core Data to build this app. Let's also say that we have a previous process already in place to read in animal data to pre-populate the backing (SQLite) store that Core Data uses. We can embed this database file into the application bundle itself, since it doesn't get modified. When a user downloads an update to the application, the new version will include the latest (static) animal catalogue database, so we don't ever have to worry about it being out of date. But, now the tricky part: how do we store the (dynamic) user custom data in a sound manner? My first thought is that the (dynamic) database should be stored in the Documents directory for the app, so application updates don't clobber the existing data. Am I correct? My second thought is that since the (dynamic) user custom data database is not in the same store as the (static) animal catalogue, we can't naively make a relationship between the Rating and the Notes entities (in one database) and the Animal entity (in the other database). In this case, I would imagine one solution would be to have an "animalName" string property in the Rating/Notes entity, and match it up at runtime. Is this the best way to do it, or is there a way to "sync" two different databases in Core Data?

    I have never used a Linux system in an AD environment before and am trying to join my laptop running Ubuntu to join our Active Directory (DC is a Windows Server 2008 machine) using Likewise-open. Using the GUI wizard, I have joined the domain. I can mount network shares using CIFS Problem: I only have read access to our fileserver. What more is needed to get the AD to recognize me as a user who has the appropriate rights? Any help is appreciated.
