  • Check whether server is up in AppleScript

    I have an intranet server running on a Windows XP computer and the internet connection on it has been known to be pretty unreliable (surprise, surprise) so I was wondering if there was a way to use an AppleScript to poll it every hour or so to see if it is up and running and if it isn't, execute something, like send myself an email.     Hi ** changed the example to better express the situation i am using spring 2.5 and have the following situation @Component @Scope("prototype") Class Foo { } class A { @Autowired Foo fooA; } class B { @Autowired Foo fooB; } class C { @Autowired Foo fooC; } i am trying to understand if there is some way to use @Autowired and bind the same instance of FOO onto fooA and fooB while binding a different instance to fooC i understand that if the scope of FOO will be singleton it will work but i am wandering if there is a way to achieve the same goal while using a protoype scope. also please explain is this the correct usage of the autowiring concept ? am i trying to abuse the spring framework purpose

  • How can I create/update an XML node that may or may not exist?

    Is there a method available (i.e. without me creating my own recursive method), for a given xpath (or other method of identifying the hierarchical position) to create/update an XML node, where the node would be created if it does not exist? This would need to create the parent node if it does not exist as well. I do have an XSD which includes all possible nodes. i.e. Before: <employee> <name>John Smith</name> </employee> Would like to call something like this: CoolXmlUpdateMethod("/employee/address/city", "Los Angeles"); After: <employee> <name>John Smith</name> <address> <city>Los Angeles</city> </address> </employee> Or even a method to create a node, given an xpath, wherein it will recursively create the parent node(s) if they do not exist? As far as the application (if it matters), this is taking an existing XML doc that contains only populated nodes, and adding data to it from another system. The new data may or may not already have values populated in the source XML. Surely this is not an uncommon scenario?

    hi, i am using rawurlencode($url_variable) while passing to a script.. when i receive the variable in the script ,before passing this variable to mysql ,i was doing mysql_real_escape_string . now the problem is like when there is a variable like $url_variable = "Off-St.Mark's-Road" ...after i do mysql_real_escape_string it become slike Off-St.Mark\\'s-Road . which is creating a problem in mysql query ... how i get over this...rawurlencode is necessary to pass variables to the script and i want to do mysql_real_escape_string to make the data safe...

  • HTTPS and FormAssembly

    We are using a FormAssembly page to collect feedback - it's hosted within an IFrame on the side of our site's master page. The thing is, that some parts of our site are HTTPS - viewing and posting the form is ok in HTTPS, but the problem comes with the "thank you" page - we are using the configurable custom thank you page (configured within FormAssembly iteself). Is there are way we can send the desired response page up (perhaps via a hidden field within the posted form?) - this way we can send the HTTPS link for the HTTPS version of the form and the normal HTTP link for the HTTP form?   • What is the cheapest non-colocation way to serve about 10 static files at a rate of 100 megabits per

    I've looked at Amazon S3 and it costs roughly $4746 per month for 100 megabits/s (which translates into 31,640 Gigabytes of data transferred. That's at a rate of $0.15 per gig.) I haven't found a cheaper "cloud" option. I'm curious if there's any other cloud hosting option out there cheaper than S3. Uptime is not an issue because I can build failover for most things into the browser. e.g. I can use javascript to say "if the image didn't load then go to this other URL instead." FYI I'm currently using a colocation facility which is about 30% cheaper than S3 and I'm familiar with colo prices - so this question is really about "cloud" services and by that I mean services where I don't have to worry about the infrastructure.

  • WPF Animate a Maxtrix using interpolation

    Im having a issue with my application that is using touch gestures to scale, translate and rotate my scene. I was using a TransformGroup which contained TranslateTransform, ScaleTransform and a RotateTransform but I could not get the movement correct, it always jumps and skips, so I moved to a MaxtrixTransform which I was able to use much easier to get my scene to be zoomable, rotatable and panable nicely. However, what I later found out was that you cannot animate smoothly (using interpolation) the values of a Matrix, for what reason I have no idea, but its part of the MSDN doco and the properties of the Matrix are not dependency properties anyways... Has anyone had any luck animating a maxtrix to make it smooth? The only idea(s) I have had is to animate a few different, custom DP which all have callbacks that I update the Matrix from OR To convert the Maxtix to a set of Transform object that I then animate and then afterwords convert back. Is there a smarter way to do this?

If I do like this: const CGPadding CGPaddingZero = (CGPadding){0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0}; It doesnt work. So what am I doing wrong?

  • How to test crontab entry?

    I have an entry in my crontab that looks like this: 0 3 * * * pg_dump mydb | gzip > ~/backup/db/$(date +%Y-%m-%d).psql.gz That script works perfectly when I execute it from the shell, but it doesn't seem to be running every night. I'm assuming there's something wrong with the permissions, maybe crontab is running under a different user or something. How can I debug this? I'm a shared hosting environment (WebFaction).

    My site has Listings. Users can ask Questions about listings, and the author of the listing can respond with an Answer. However, the Answer might need clarification, so I've made them recursive (you can "answer" an answer). So how do I set up the database? The way I have it now looks like this (in Django-style models): class QuestionOrAnswer(Model): user = ForeignKey(User, related_name='questions') listing = ForeignKey(Listing, related_name='questions') parent = models.ForeignKey('self', null=True, blank=True, related_name='children') message = TextField() But what bugs me is that listing is now an attribute of the answers as well (it doesn't need to be). What happens if the database gets mangled and an answer belongs to a different listing than its parent question? That just doesn't make any sense. We can separate it with polymorphism: QuestionOrAnswer user message created updated Question(QuestionOrAnswer) shipment Answer(QuestionOrAnswer) parent = ForeignKey(QuestionOrAnswer) And that ought to work, but now ever question and answer is split into 2 tables. Is it worth this overhead for clearly defined models?

  • asp.net mvc & jquery dialog: What approach do I take to add items to a dropdownlist/select list with

    Hi, I am new to MVC and have a grasp of the basic model, but still doing everything with postbacks etc. One aspect of the UI I want to build is to have a drop-down-list of items with a button to add an item to the database and refresh the list. Achieving this with WebForms was straight forward as everything was wrapped in UpdatePanels, but what is the best approach to achieve this using MVC? Also with the strongly typed View how do I pass the Model or just the SelectList Property to the UserControl or is this not the case? Nor sure if there should be form in the dialog div? or how that is going to postback via ajax. Some examples show a lot of ajax code in the page something like: $.ajax({...}); I assume doing this using jquery is more code than asp.net webforms, but there is just more code to see doing a "View Source" on a page? Your comments appreciated.

  • How can I implement a "wizard" style page using JQuery?

    I am implementing a questionnaire on the web and I'd like for each block of questions to have its own "page" so the user doesn't have to scroll. However, page loads have two problems: a) they take time (and have a noticeable flicker/refresh) and b) such an approach would force me to do a data table insert plus multiple updates (or store it all in my session). How can I use JQuery to let the user page through the questionnaire on the client side, answering questions as he goes? I'll then be able to handle the data store when all the answers are submitted at the end. One other thing...is there a way to make sure that the session doesn't time out if the user takes awhile?

  • Windows 8, NVIDIA graphics recognition fails

    I just installed Windows 8 Pro OEM 64-bit (clean install) and it won't properly recognize my graphics adapter. When I installed Win8, it automatically installed the BasicDisplay.sys driver dated 6/21/2006. 6.2.9200.16384 (win8_rtm.120725-1247). Hardware - Mobo:MSi G41M-P33 Combo CPU:Intel CoreDuo 6600 Graphics:NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT *OS* - Windows 8 Pro 64-bit OEM The graphics adapter worked fine in Windows XP. The PC is a generic box, bought locally and its mobo failed recently, so I replaced it with the G41M. Microsoft wouldn't let me re-activate Windows XP with a different mobo, so I installed Win8, which appears to work except as described next. Win8 only partially recognizes the graphics adapter and won't allow NVIDIA latest driver installer to see that it's an NVIDIA card. As a result, OpenGL doesn't work, and this is needed by the software I most use. Other than that the graphics look OK. When I say 'partially recognizes', I mean that via the Control Panel, I can see that the adapter is described as NVIDIA, but the driver remains stuck at Microsoft Basic Display Adapter no matter what I try, including "Update driver..." in adapter properties. Display Screen Resolution Advanced Settings Adapter shows: Adapter Type: Microsoft Basic Display Adapter Chip Type: NVIDIA DAC Type: NVIDIA Corporation Bios Information: G27 Board - p381n17 Don't know what this means ... no mention of 9400GT Total Available Graphics Memory: 256 MB Dedicated Video Memory: 0 MB In fact the adapter has 512MB on-board video memory. System Video Memory: 0 MB Shared System Memory: 256 MB And Control Panel Device Manager Display adapters just shows Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. No other graphics adapter, and no unknown device or yellow question mark. What I have tried so far: 1. Cleared CMOS and reset. Updated BIOS and all mobo drivers as follows: 1st I used Driver Reviver to see if any driver updates were required. It found some but I didn't use that to get the drivers. Then I switched to MSi's own mobo driver utility Live Update 5. This also showed the board needed to update several so I used it to fetch the new drivers. After that it showed that everything was up to date and I checked with Driver Reviver again, which also reported no drivers now needed updating. Rebooted. Went to the NVIDIA site to get the latest graphics adapter driver. Their auto-detect "Option 2: Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products" said "The NVIDIA Smart Scan was unable to evaluate your system hardware. Please use Option 1 to manually find drivers for your NVIDIA products." So I downloaded 310.70-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql.exe, which lists 9400 GT under supported products, but when I run it, it says: "NVIDIA Installer cannot continue This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." Connected the display to the on-board Intel graphics (G41 Intel Express), removed the NVIDIA card and rebooted, changed to internal graphics in CMOS. Again it installs the MS Basic Display Adapter, and can't properly run my s/w that needs OpenGL. It runs on other machines with Intel Express graphics (WinXP and 7) Shut down and pulled out the power cord. Held start button to discharge all capacitors. Removed and re-inserted NVIDIA adapter in PCI-E slot and made sure properly seated. Connected the monitor to the card, screwed plug to socket. Reconnected power cord. Started and checked in BIOS that Primary Graphics Adapter was set to PCI-E. Started Windows. Uninstalled MS Basic Display Adapter in Device Manager. Screen blanks briefly, reappears. No Graphics adapter entry was then visible in Device Manager. Restarted PC. MS Basic Display Adapter Visible again in Device Manager. Clicked in Device Manager View Show hidden devices. No other graphics adapter appears, no unknown devices. Rebooted. Tried Scan for Hardware changes. None detected. Tried right-click on MS Basic Display Adapter Properties Driver Update Driver... Search automatically. It replied that it had determined driver was up to date. I checked that there were no graphic driver-related entries in Programs and Features that I could delete (none). Searched for any other drivers with nvidia in their name and deleted them, just keeping the 306.97 installer exe file. Did a Windows Update. Ran GPU-Z which shows (main items): Microsoft Basic Display Adapter GPU G72 BIOS 5.72.22.76.88 Device ID 10DE - 01D5 DDR2 Bus Width 32 Bit Memory size 64MB Driver Version nvlddmkm 6.2.9200.16384 (ForceWare 0.00) / Win8 64 NVIDIA SLI Unknown in the drop-down at the foot, "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" is the only option If I swap hard disks in that machine to one with a Ubuntu 10.4 installation (originally installed on the same PC), lspci shows "VGA compatible controller as NVIDIA Corporation Device 01d5 (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])" and "kernel driver in use: nvidia" I'm out of ideas for new things to try and would be really grateful of suggestions.   • No Hibernate Exception on the same insert of data

    Hi All, Hibernate Newbie here. I am quite unsure why I am not getting any exception when I am executing below code. On first attempt, this code creates the Book Entry on my Book Table. But my concern is that when I execute below code again, no error was pop out by Hibernate.   • Visual C++ overrides/mock objects for unit testing?

    When I'm running unit tests, I want to be able to "stub out" or create a mock object, but I'm running into DLL Hell. For example: There are two DLL libraries built: A.dll and B.dll -- Classes in A.dll have calls to classes in B.dll so when A.dll was built, the link line was using B.lib for the defintions. My test driver (Foo.exe) is testing classes in A.dll, so it links against A.lib. However, I want to "stub out" some of the calls A.dll makes to B.dll with simple versions (return basic value, no DB look up, etc). I can't build an Override.dll that just overrides the needed methods (not entire classes) and replace B.dll because Foo.exe will A) complain that B.dll is missing if I just remove it and put Override.dll in it's place or B) if I rename Override.dll to B.dll, Foo.exe complains that there are unresolved symbols because Override.dll is not a complete implementation of B.dll. Is there a way to do this? Is there a way to statically link Foo.exe with A.lib, B.lib and Override.lib such that it will work without having to completely rebuild A.lib and B.lib to remove the __delcspec(dllexport)? Is there another option?

  • Django repeating vars/cache issue?

    I'm trying to build a better/more powerful form class for Django. It's working well, except for these sub-forms. Actually, it works perfectly right after I re-start apache, but after I refresh the page a few times, my HTML output starts to look like this: <input class="text" type="text" id="pickup_addr-pickup_addr-pickup_addr-id-pickup_addr-venue" value="" name="pickup_addr-pickup_addr-pickup_addr-pickup_addr-venue" /> The pickup_addr- part starts repeating many times. I was looking for loops around the prefix code that might have cause this to happen, but the output isn't even consistent when I refresh the page, so I think something is getting cached somewhere, but I can't even imagine how that's possible. The prefix car should be reset when the class is initialized, no?   • Common reasons not to use Open Office

    I personally use it on both Windows and Linux, but have MS Office installed at work. I understand that in some business situations there are thousands (upon thousands) of existing MS Office documents that may or may not convert cleanly to Open Office. Not everyone is in that situation though. Among non IT folk, I rarely see OOo. Why is this so? What are common reasons for people not using OpenOffice.org? Are they from before it is even tried, or is it from unsatisfactory experiences when actually using it?
