• synchronizing audio over a network

  I'm in startup of designing a client/server audio system which can stream audio arbitrarily over a network. One central server pumps out an audio stream and x number of clients receives the audio data and plays it. So far no magic needed and I have even got this scenario to work with VLC media player out of the box. However, the tricky part seems to be synchronizing the audio playback so that all clients are in audible synch (actual latency can be allowed as long as it is perceived to be in sync by a human listener). My question is if there's any known method or algorithm to use for these types of synchronization problems (video is probably solved the same way). My own initial thoughts centers around synchronizing clocks between physical machines and thereby creating a virtual "main timer" and somehow aligning audio data packets against it.   How to display images in the form of pages where only one page is displayed at a time on blackberry screen. On scrolling down subsequent images will load at run time. So that loading of images do not consume time at startup. Edit: I am using loadimage function which loads images from blackberry device memory which loads images from specified path and resizing them.As number of images increases, it increases the startup time during opening of window.There is an in-built application(Media) in blackberry phone, where images load without taking any extra time. My idea is to display particular number of images which fit to the blackberry screen. As user scroll down to bottom of screen, application will then load and display more images. So my question is how to detect when user reached to bottom of blackberry screen and display one more row images.

  I am wanting to query the members of a given playlist. I have the correct playlist id, and want to use a managedQuery() to look at the playlist members in question. What I have is this: private String [] columns = { MediaStore.Audio.Playlists.Members.PLAYLIST_ID, MediaStore.Audio.Playlists.Members.TITLE, }; Uri membersUri = MediaStore.Audio.Playlists.Members.getContentUri(volume, playlistId); Cursor tCursor = managedQuery(membersUri, columns, null, null, null); I don't know what the volume argument needs to be. I've tried this: MediaStore.Audio.Playlists.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI.toString() for the "volume" argument. That gives me back a valid content URI that looks like: content://media/external/audio/playlists/2/members However, my cursor comes back null. I probably am way off base -- I know what I want to do is very simple.

  I have a jquery content slider on a site I'm developing. I am having a strange problem that seems to be across all browsers and that is the slider slides the wrong distance if the page is refreshed via the refresh button. To re-create the problem please follow these steps - click this link http://www.aus-media.com/dev/site_BYS/index.html then click on the 'About Bikram Yoga' menu item at the bottom. Click on the 'more' and 'back' tabs on this page and you will notice it works fine. Then refresh the page by clicking the refresh button and try the more and back buttons again. When you do this in xaml: {Binding MyPropertyName} you see in the output window whenever the binding fails. and it tells you the propertyName the Type name etc. The MethodConverter Class can tell you the name of the method that failed, but it can't tell you the source object type. Because the value will be null.   Hi, Is it possible to use progressive download for near real-time playback of a live video stream recorded with a webcam? What I need is that a video stream is recorded on one end, uploaded in real-time to a server and downloaded with a short delay, but in real-time, using progressive download (i.e., HTTP streaming) on another end for playback. Is it possible or does it require the use of RTMP? If it's possible, then does it require that Flash Media Server runs on a server? Thanks!

  I am in the process of creating an internet radio station, but the two djs I have for it are not able to be in one place. I need for them to be able to login to a web based broadcasting session that still has full functionality. They need to be able to broadcast thier live shows with talk and music. The music will be stroed on the server. I have checked out the Broadwave media streaming server from NCH, but ti does not have the ability to login as a dj from a remote computer. I don't have any money for this, so I need it to be free. If this is not possible, I need it to be cheap!

• Reading iTunesMovies file in iPhone?

  Hi there. In iPhone, the iPod app saves the media files (audio, video) with strange names and in weird folders (F00,F01 etc). There is a file named iTunesMovies in iPhone, which contains all the information about the metadata of those video files and how they are to be displayed in iPod app. I copied that to my Mac also, and when i tried to open that file in textEdit, it showed some alien characters which made me believe that it is encrypted may be(Thats just a wild guess). I want to read/change the contents of that iTunesMovies file. Can i do that? Is there any Framework which deals with that iTunesMovies file? Thanks in advance

• Background settings for a JDesktopPane

  I'm using a self-made DesktopPaneUI for a JDesktopPane, I've written the proper methods for the class, and I'm running into trouble. When I resize the JDesktopPane, the background image doesn't resize with the frame. The image appears to be clipped at the size it was when the window initially opened. I'm giving it an image larger than the window, and I'm still having this problem. • Looking for Light Time Management Software Suggestions (for Mac)

  I'm looking for a simple project management app that performs task scheduling, along the line of Merlin or MS Project, but no where near as robustly. I don't need to deal with other (human) resources, but I work on anything from 3 to 6 different projects at a time. What I'd like is to be able to input deadlines and tasks, and have a schedule suggested to complete them. I do technical work, but I don't think I need anything specifically for software development, especially considering I do plenty of other kinds of things, like graphic design and social media PR. I'd really like this to be dead simple, as simple as possible. Suggestions? OmniPlan, something web-based? Definitely cannot afford anything too extravagant, really looking for something under $200.   I'm curious... I'm looking to have a really efficient setup for my slice for a client. I'm not an expert with servers and so am looking for good solid resources to help me set this up... It's been recommended to me that using FastCGI for PHP, Green Unicorn (gunicorn) for Django and Nginx for media is a good combination to have PHP and Django running on the same slice/server. This is needed due to have a main Django website and admin, but also to have a PHP forum on there too. Could anyone push me to some useful resources that would help me set this up on my slice? Or at least, any views or comments on this particular setup?

• Table borders don't display properly when converted from HTML page into MS Word 2003

  Hello everyone, I've got a bit of a complicated set up. I specialise in XSLT which I write for 3rd party system. All CSS looks fine in the browser. Now that system provides a button that converts my generated HTML into MS Word 2003. However, table borders don't convert as they appear in a Browser. There are lots of tables and they have different borders setup. For example there is one that uses only outside border and no borders inside it. When converting to MS Word, a table appears with ALL the borders in between cells. Which I don't want. I've tried search the Internet, but didn't come across anything useful. Maybe there are tips or tricks on how to set up tables borders so it's understood properly by MS Word. The third party said the following: "The system just passes the HTML created through the converter it finds in the installed version of Word". I would really appreciate any tips and help! Dasha

• Why am I getting 404 in Django?

  After installing this python Django module: http://code.google.com/p/django-compress/wiki/Installation I am getting 404's in my media static files. This Django module is supposed to "compress" the javascript/css files. That's why I'm getting 404 I guess. The problem is, I don't want this anymore. And when I installed this program, I did "python setup.py install" How do I install it? I just want to revert it back to normal so I don't get any 404 errors.

• How can I play compressed sound files in C# in a portable way?

  Is there a portable, not patent-restricted way to play compressed sound files in C# / .Net? I want to play short "jingle" sounds on various events occuring in the program. System.Media.SoundPlayer can handle only WAV, but those are typically to big to embed in a downloadable apllication. MP3 is protected with patents, so even if there was a fully managed decoder/player it wouldn't be free to redistribute. The best format available would seem to be OGG Vorbis, but I had no luck getting any C# Vorbis libraries to work (I managed to extract a raw PCM with csvorbis but I don't know how to play it afterwards). I neither want to distribute any binaries with my application nor depend on P/Invoke, as the project should run at least on Windows and Linux. I'm fine with bundling .Net assemblies as long as they are license-compatible with GPL. [this question is a follow up to a mailing list discussion on mono-dev mailing list a year ago]

• CSS3PIE: Internet Explorer 6 doesn't download PIE.htc

  I'm using the very impressive CSS3PIE (http://css3pie.com) library to add support for CSS3 styles in IE6-8. It works fine in versions 7 and 8 and took a lot of pain out of the process. However, in IE6 no CSS3 styles are shown at all. In fact, looking at the server logs, I can see that IE6 doesn't even download the PIE.htc file, which is necessary for the magic to work. The content type for the file is set correctly as text/x-component, it's referenced by absolute URL, and works fine in IE7 and 8. I'm using Compass (www.compass-style.org) and the PIE helper which makes the CSS look like this: #shopping_cart { behavior: url("/media/static/css/PIE.htc"); position: relative; border-radius: 10px; } I can't figure out what the problem is. Does anyone have any ideas what might cause IE6 to skip the behavior definition altogether? Cheers, Jonas

• Why is Magento 1.4 including javascript files by filesystem path?

  I am in the process of testing a Magento 1.3 site using Magento 1.4. I am seeing very weird and inconsistent behavior. Instead of including the URL of my javascript files, Magento is creating tags with the full filesystem path of the js files, as so: <script type="text/javascript" src="/home/my_username/public_html/js/prototype/prototype.js"></script> I believe this is related to the new "Themes JavaScript and CSS files combined to one file" function. In fact, when I log into the admin and click "Flush JavaScript/CSS Cache", then the first page load is successful, and I see a single JS include similar to: <script type="text/javascript" src="/media/js/5b8cfac152fcb2a5f93ef9571d338c54.js"></script> But subsequent age loads load every single JS file, with the full path names. Which obviously isn't going to work. Anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong or how to fix this issue?

  Hello all, My software has two .EXE files : A.exe and B.exe. After installed on Window 7, the shortcut to A.exe is always shown in the start menu. (I don't know if 'Start menu' is the correct name or not, what I mean is the area above 'All Programs'). • Need to format character precedence in Strings.

  I'm currently writing a Roman Numeral Converter for the fun of it. The problem works up to the aforementioned character precedence. Since Roman Numerals are not positional, i.e. III does not symbolize 1*whatever base^2 + 1*whatever base^1 + 1*whatever base^0. That of course makes it hard when somebody types in XIV and I need to make sure that the I is not added in this case, but rather subtracted. I'm not sure how to do this. What would be the best approach to tackle this? I have both the Roman Symbols and their respective decimal numbers stored in arrays: const char cRomanArray[] = "IVXLCDM"; const int romanArray[] = { 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000 }; so it wouldn't be too hard for me to brute-force the damn thing by simply checking the precedence within the array, i.e. if the symbol is smaller than the next symbol, i.e. in the exampe 'XIV' if 'I' is smaller than 'V', in which case it would be because I have ordered them in the array, then I could make it subtract the value instead of add. But this seems like a very ugly solution. Are there perhaps any better ones? I was thinking something along the lines of Regular Expressions maybe( forgive me if that sounds like a horrible idea, I haven't used RegExp yet, but it sounds like it could do what I need, and that's to determine the characters in a string.)

  I'd like to use a configuration file format which supports key value pairs and nestable, repeatable structures, and which is as light on syntax as possible. I'm imagining something along the lines of: cachedir = /var/cache mail_to = [email protected] job { name = my-media frequency = 1 day source { from = /home/michael/Images source { } source { } } job { } I'd be happy with something using significant-whitespace as well. JSON requires too many explicit syntax rules (quoting, commas, etc.). YAML is actually pretty good, but would require the jobs to be defined as a YAML list, which I find slightly awkward to use.
