• Window 7 not recognizing printer for driver (re)installation

  OK I am having this printer problem. I had a user delete her printer. Please don't ask, I don't know. She is using an HP deskjet 6940 printer, and for her desktop she has an HP dx2400, with Windows 7. When I plug in the USB cable it should install the new drivers, but it does not. I believe you guys don't need to know my network setup. I could be wrong. If you guys here at serverfault could help that will be great. :)

• Rpm removal does not remove delivered dirs and leaves garbage

  I deliver an application via an RPM. This application delivers various directories and files. E.g. under /opt/internal/com a file structure is being copied. I was expecting that on rpm -e all the file structure delivered under /opt/internal/com will be removed. But it does not. There are directories in the file structure that are non-empty. Is this the reason? But these (non-empty) directories were created by the RPM installation. So I would expect that they would be "owned" by RPM and removed automatically. Is this wrong? Am I supposed to remove them manually?

• jMeter not able to login to wordpress

  I am trying to create a jMeter test to login to wordpress and post a new blog on a local installation of wordpress. Recorded wordpress login sequence using the recorder. Added cookie manager to the test plan. However I am not able to login to wordpress. I tried all the possible of combination of Cookie policy and Implementation settings for Cookie manager, but it did not help. When I recorded against the publicly hosted wordpress, the login did not succeed, but the response had an error saying that your browser have not enabled cookies. I am using jMeter 2.11 on Windows 7.

• Intel HD 4000 driver not working

  I have a Dell Inspiron 15r se 7520. I have upgraded my system to Windows 8.1 few days back. After the upgrade, my Intel HD 4000 graphics driver stopped working. I have downloaded the latest driver from Dell website but during installation it said that my graphics driver is not compatible or validated and also my dedicated graphics driver AMD ATI Raedon HD 7730m also stopped working. There is also a problem with my screen brightness: I am unable to change it. How to make my graphics driver work?

• Share files - Ubuntu 12.4 and Windows 7 - one network - password not accepted

  I have three machines - two with windows 7 and one with Ubuntu 12.4 version. There are in the same network connected by modem. The two machines shares file with no problem, but they can not see the machine with Ubuntu. On the other hand, I am able to see the share files of the windows machines from the Ubuntu's Network. When I select a folder, it wants the network password - I changed it several times in order to be sure that I am entering the correct one but in every case it says that the password is wrong. I have read some topics about files sharing between Linux and windows in which it is said that I should use samba, but is there a more easy way to do this, using the build it options?

• Network Path not found while joining Active Directory

  So I have an Amazon EC2 box running Windows Server 2008 with Active Directory installed on it. I also have a Windows 7 virtual machine, which is set to use the Active Directory box as its DNS and WINS server. I'm trying to join the virtual machine to the domain, and I'm asked for authentication. I give authentication, wait a minute, and I get an error saying: The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "ad.chigs.me": The network path was not found. How can I fix this so that I'll be able to join the domain? Thanks!

• CSS of iFramed page not being applied properly

  My company has purchased a third-party package with a built-in customer facing web portal, and I'm being tasked with integrating it into our site. Unfortunately, the web portal does not look great, and we have absolutely no control over how it looks (other than asking the vendor for changes - $$). In order to make it look somewhat like the rest of our site, I've stuck it in an iFrame (I'm not thrilled about this either) to put our logo and top navigation on it. Please note, I am not attempting to manipulate the iframed page in any way. Firefox handles this just fine, but in IE7 and IE8, not all of the CSS is being applied properly when the application's pages are displayed in the iFrame. Specifically, it should be applying a font-family of Arial to all TDs, but some text inside TDs are not being displayed as Arial. Any ideas as to what is going on? This only happens when the pages are viewed inside the iFrame. Outside the iFrame, the CSS is applied as it should be. I'm guessing we're going to have to get our vendor to make some changes, but I'd love to know why the iFrame is impacting the page like this. Thanks!

• OOF (Out of Office) is not working for remote users (Outlook Anywhere)

  I'm not sure how long this issue has been happening, but recently a few of the remote sales users were going to a sales meeting and wanted to set their Out of Office... however in Outlook 2010, they get this error message: "Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable" When I run the Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer, Autodiscover completes fine, but the next step fails: Exception details: Message: The request failed. The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden. • SSH automatic logon works for one user but not the other

  I want to enable automatic ssh login using the .ssh/config file for my git user. Here is my .ssh/config file: Host test HostName myserver.net User test IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa Host git HostName myserver.net User git IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa It works for my test user but not for my git user so my global SSH configuration is correct. The configuration are exactly the same as far as I know. It used to work with git user but I'm unable what change has broken the automatic logon. • Image resolution not showing up in "Get info" dialog in Mac OS X

  When I bought a Mac Mini with Mac OS X, I could show image dimensions in the Get Info dialog. After that, I installed some mobile application development software and later I noticed, Get Info was not showing the image dimensions anymore. I need to check the dimensions of those images to include artwork in my project. Now, I reinstalled my Mac OS X and it's working fine – it is showing the dimensions: Before that, 516x314 was missing. Why did that happen? How can I prevent it from happening again?

  Some of the mails for a particular domain are not getting delivered from our mail server. We are using sendmail for mail server. Fallowing can be seen in log Oct 21 13:24:59 mailser sendmail[5407]: r9L7st1a005405: to=<[email protected]>, delay=00:00:03, xdelay=00:00:03, mailer=esmtp, pri=120539, relay=mailgw.test.in. [164.X.X.19], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (ok: Message 289953693 accepted) FOr other domains like yahoo , gmail etc it is working fine . But if I send the mail through commandline using mailx command from the same server , the message is going through... • Why doesn't the network drive not automatically connect?

  I've set up samba on my Ubuntu desktop. It appears to be something to do with the server. With all user accounts on Ubuntu(except the default one I use all the time) windows isn't able to/doesn't automatically map the network drive. In other words: I am only able to to automatically map the network drive on windows with only one of the accounts created on Ubuntu. Edit: I am able to connect using other accounts, I'm just not able to automatically map using those credentials. Details: Windows 7, Ubuntu 12.10

• snort-mysql not starting on Ubuntu server

  I am following this tutorial: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SnortIDS I've set up the database, everything has installed correctly, and I've configured the snort.conf file so it outputs to a database (with creds all filled out ok). When I run /etc/init.d/snort start, it fails but does not produce any error message other than [fail]. The last few lines of /var/log/syslog are: snort[5687]: database: must enter database name in configuration file#012 snort[5687]: FATAL ERROR: My output database line in the snort.conf file is: output database: log, mysql, user=snort password=... dbname=snort host=localhost I have tried it with the commas separating everything, putting quotes around stuff, etc. The password is only made up of letters (after I thought maybe a number was throwing it off).

• Custom command in right-click menu not working

  I have added, via the registry, a right click menu option for all filetypes which is supposed to get the MD5 checksum for a file. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*\shell\Checksum - Default: Get Checksum and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*\shell\Checksum\command - Default: checksum.cmd "%1" checksum.cmd simply clears the screen, calls fciv.exe using %1 and then pauses. Unfortunately, whilst the option "Get Checksum" appears correctly in the right click menu, it doesn't perform the right action when clicked. When I click it an "Open With" dialog opens, which is of course not what I want. Both checksum.cmd and fciv.exe are in the PATH. checksum.cmd: @echo off cls fciv.exe %1 pause Anybody know what's going on?

• Getting "is not a valid mailbox" when email sent to primary address

  Anyone outside my domain who sends me an email is getting a bounced email with the following error from Exchange: 550 550 5.1.1 [email protected] is not a valid mailbox (state 14). I can't receive emails from external addresses until I send an email to one of my secondary addresses. Once I sent it to my secondary address, my primary address will start working for a while and fail again after a few hours. We use Exchange 2003. Anyone has any suggestions on what to try?

• Why are we getting a WCF "Framing error" on some machines but not others

  We have just found we are getting “framing errors” (as reported by the WCF logs) when running our system on some customer test machine. It all works ok on our development machines. We have an abstract base class, with KnownType attributes for all its sub classes. One of it’s subclass is missing it’s DataContract attribute. However it all worked on our test machine! On the customers test machine, we got “framing error” showing up the WCF logs, this is not the error message I have seen in the past when missing a DataContract attribute, or a KnownType attribute. I wish to get to the bottom of this, as we can no longer have confidence in our ability to test the system before giving it to the customer until we can make our machines behave the some as the customer’s machines. • Distinct or group by on some columns but not others

  I have a view that I'm trying to filter with something similar to DISTINCT on some columns but not others. I have a view like this: Name LastName Zip Street1 HouseholdID (may not be unique because it may have multiple addresses -- think of it in the logical sense as grouping persons but not physical locations; If you lookup HouseholdID 4130, you may get two rows.. or more, because the person may have mutiple mailing locations) City State I need to pull all those columns but filter on LastName,Zip, and Street1. Here's the fun part: The filter is arbitrary -- meaning I don't care which one of the duplicates goes away. This is for a mail out type thing and the other information is not used for any other reason than than to look up a specific person if needed (I have no idea why). So.. given one of the records, you can easily figure out the removed ones. As it stands now, my Sql-Fu fails me and I'm filtering in C# which is incredibly slow and is pretty much a foreach that starts with an empty list and adds the row in if the combined last name, zip, and street aren't are not in the list. I feel like I'm missing a simple / basic part of SQL that I should be understanding.

• Open original Microsoft Office document (not "version 1") on Mac OS X Lion restart

  My MacBook Pro running Lion has been frequently freezing lately, and I've had to restart with the power button. When Lion starts up again, the Microsoft Office applications that were running start and load different autosaved versions of the documents I had open (i.e. it does not open abc.xlsx but [version 1] of abc.xlsx). Sometimes it also opens the original files. Several times I've inputted data into these "version 1" files, only to try to save it and realize that it isn't the original file and is sometimes missing data that is contained in the original file. Is there any way to make autorecover open the actual document with the unsaved changes, instead of making a new temporary version?

• Default documentroot apache does not work

  I have apache version 2.2 and php 5.3.15 on a single server. I configured virtual hosting and a default vhost. 0_default_.conf - goes to /var/www/default sub.domain.com.conf - goes to /var/www/sub.domain.com My question is, how could I set the default documentroot to sub.domain.com permanently? That means all request should be redirected to sub.domain.com. I try to remove 0_default_.conf but when viewing the page it display the php source code of sub.domain.com. Here is my configurations -- http://pastebin.com/4e3awUJ4 Although I can create index.php to /var/www/default and permanently redirect to sub.domain.com site but it's not viable solution for me because what if I didn't point the ip address of sub.domain.com to the server so user cannot view that subdomain. • "shell not found" on start of backtrack 5

  I am using backtrack5 in VMware on my system. I was trying to change my default shell to ksh. After executing the 'chsh' command. On restarting the OS, it shows "Cannot execute ksh: no such file or directory", which apparently because of giving a bad path while changing shell. Because of this I am not able to start the OS, as I have no terminal to interact with (cannot start the GUI). Now I need to restore the previous shell, but I don't have any access to the terminal. • xm console command is not working in XEN

  I have XEN 4.0.x.x rpm with CENT OS. I have set it up and have many VMs on it. But problem is when I execute 'xm console ' command from dom0, command just hangs dom0 and some 'y' comes up in next line but nothing really happens. Is it a bug in xen 4.0 and I need to upgrade it or I can tweak some configuration file in /etc/xen/ to make it work. I found following at some site but its not working: In order to be able to login to your domU from the console using: xm create {your hostname}.cfg -c (to the set root password for ssh, for instance, or to see more output than just kernel output when debugging) it may be necessary to add the following line to your /etc/xen/{your hostname}.cfg extra='xencons=tty' Is there any other way to solve it?

• .htaccess not working

  I am trying to get .htaccess to work under Apache, but the server doesn't seem to honor it. In httpd.conf I have: AllowOverride All I have restarted the server with 'service httpd restart'. I have also done a 'service httpd reload'. The docs suggest testing the configuration with a garbage .htaccess file. If the server succesfully reads the garbage .htaccess file, this should result in an error when retrieving a page from the directory. But I get no error, suggesting that the server is not parsing the file. What might be wrong? Thanks.

• Handler not yet determined error

  Hello, I don’t know anything about deploying a website, so I probably made some stupid mistake. Anyways, I opened IIS 7 manager, created new virtual directory ( via Add Application ) and pointed it to physical directory where Visual studio saved my Web project. But when I tried to request an .aspx page, browser reported the following error (I won’t post the whole error, but just the interesting bits): Handler: Not yet determined Config Error: Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions Logon User: Not yet determined A) why is handler not yet determined? As far as I know, IIS7 does have Asp.Net handler registered?! B) Why wouldn’t IIS have sufficient permissions? Does that mean I should give IIS higher privileges? Or does Asp.Net runtime have insufficient permissions? C) Could the error also be due to the fact that perhaps it expected the user to authenticate itself? I’m assuming this due to Logon user not yet being determined? D) And finally, any ideas how to make it work? thanx

• Thunderbird 3 not displaying email in local folder

  I installed TB3 on a new computer set up to use imap to get my gmail -- works fine I copied all of my existing emails from old computer into the appdata directiry fir thunderbird local folders. All files are of the right size that I know the data is present When I run tb on the new computer all of the FOLDERS show up under LocalFolders. 5, BUT BUT BUT, when I click on any folder, all I get is a blank -- no emails are shown. additional info: Bitdefender DOES see the missing emails because one or two are tagged as suspicious But Windows 7 search is NOT seeing the missing emails. Can anyone instruct me on how I can get tbird to show the old emails ??? thanks

• Why does "non exists" SQL query work and "not in" doesn't

  I spent some time trying to figure out why this query isn't pulling the results i expected: SELECT * FROM NGS WHERE ESPSSN NOT IN (SELECT SSN FROM CENSUS) finally i tried writing the query another way and this ended up getting the expected results: SELECT * FROM NGS n WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM CENSUS WHERE SSN = n.ESPSSN) The first query seems more appropriate and "correct". I use "in" and "not in" all the time for similar selects and have never had a problem that i know of.
