But... why is this better? will objects/queries be "easier" to create? will it lead to more efficient SQL queries? will it be compatible with all major DB's? - I assume it will. will it be easier/harder to use with stored procedures?

  I need to use the appsettings/key for my connection string in a web project, and want to re-use this for my connectionstring in the datacontext designer, but it seems all I can use there is the web.config's connectionStrings, so I have to have my DB location in 2 places in the web.config, how can I force the designer (dbml) to use the appsettings instead?

  Hi all I am using the markitup editor to get the value for one of my fields and storing it a sql server 2008 db. Now I guess the problem is people having script tags and javascript in the editor and injecting malicious scripts and I have my validate input turned false. So can anyone suggest me a way to write a custom validation method that maybe checks for script tags and removes them...or just guide me through the steps i need to do ?...also are there other things also that I should be worried about..?

I was thinking of launching a WCF service that check with my license DB if it's a valid license and if it is, send a True. It takes several minutes and requires temporary exclusive access because it deletes and recreates the main table. I have code to check to see if there are other users in the db before the process starts, but is there a way to change the access to "exclusive" at the beginning, and then change it back to open access at the end?   I have an entry in my crontab that looks like this: 0 3 * * * pg_dump mydb | gzip > ~/backup/db/$(date +%Y-%m-%d).psql.gz That script works perfectly when I execute it from the shell, but it doesn't seem to be running every night. I'm assuming there's something wrong with the permissions, maybe crontab is running under a different user or something. How can I debug this? I'm a shared hosting environment (WebFaction).
