• Simpler reachability ApI?

  I've downloaded the Reachability API and I'd like to know if there is a simpler version anywhere, or if someone can point out the bare-bones essential part of it, so that I don't need to add tons of files to my project. I don't need the whole API, I just need to check for any sort of connectivity, a particular host will be assumed available after that.

• Is the nbappengine Netbeans plugin as reliable as the Google Plugin for Eclipse?

  I like to use Netbeans rather than Eclipse and am tempted to use the nbappengine plugin for App Engine support in Netbeans but I'm concerned that it is not an officially sanctioned product and therefore may not be as reliable as the Google Plugin for Eclipse.   I am playing with the unix hexdump utility. My input file is UTF-8 encoded, containing a single character ñ, which is C3 B1 in hexadecimal UTF-8. hexdump test.txt 0000000 b1c3 0000002 Huh? This shows B1 C3 - the inverse of what I expected! Can someone explain? For getting the expected output I do: hexdump -C test.txt 00000000 c3 b1 |..| 00000002 I was thinking I understand encoding systems..

  MSDN states the following SortedSet(T).Add Method : If Count is less than the capacity of the internal array, this method is an O(1) operation. Could someone please explain "how so"? I mean when adding new value we need to find a correct place to add a value (comparing it with another values) and internal implementation looks like a "Red-Black tree" with O (log N) insertion complexity.

  I'm having trouble figuring out the syntax for a JScript .NET dictionary object. I have tried private var myDictionary: Dictionary<string><string>; but the compiler complains that it's missing a semicolon and that the Dictionary object is not declared. I know JScript does have a native dictionary-like object format, but I'm not sure if there are disadvantages to using it instead of the .NET-specific construct. I.e., what if someone wants to extend my script using another .NET language?

  I'm using datagridview in windows application developed in C# VS2005 .net 2.0. Datagridview is provided a list of business objects. It take annoying delay of 2-3 seconds before starting displaying the rows in datagridview in falling-curtain fashion. When I switch back to my application from any other window it start repaint process in the same falling-curtain fashion. This is quite annoying. Plz someone help me sort this out!

• C# unusual inheritance syntax w/ generics

  I happened upon this in an NHibernate class definition: public class SQLiteConfiguration : PersistenceConfiguration<SQLiteConfiguration> So this class inherits from a base class that is parameterized by... the derived class?   My head just exploded. Can someone explain what this means and how this pattern is useful? (This is NOT an NHibernate-specific question, by the way.)

• Java: Detect if image isGIF or isTIFF and convert to JPG

  I have a Java website, now Ive build an uploader, the validation for JPG images is done and a way to save it into the server it is too. But now I need to create an utility class using isGIF and isTIFF validated them by byte[] and convert that byte[] to java.awt.Image to save as JPG So basically I need boolean isGIF(byte[]), boolean isTIFF(byte[]), java.awt.Image convertGIF(byte[]) and java.awt.Image convertTIFF(byte[]). But I have no idea how to do it, could someone help me please? Thank you!

I am not worried about some getting access to my source but I am concerned in regards to someone decompiling my compiled silverlight XAP file.
