• Fix NTFS partition

  Okay, so i was about to resize one of my NTFS partitions but suddenly the partition tool showed me an error and it crashed, so i was no longer able to use my partition - even when i tried mounting it under linux it showed me error. I installed active partition recovery, and using it i can see all my files on that partition - it's all there, nothing's been removed. I just need somehow to fix the partition so it can be usable again. Can you tell me how, or using with which tool/software ? Thank you.

• Javascript array of href's

  Hi, I am trying to create an array with different href's to then attach to 5 separate elements. This is my code: var link = new Array('link1', 'link2', 'link3', 'link4', 'link5'); $(document.createElement("li")) .attr('class',options.numericId + (i+1)) .html('<a rel='+ i +' href=\"page.php# + 'link'\">'+ '</a>') .appendTo($("."+ options.numericId)) As you can see I am trying to append these items from the array to the end of my page so each link will take the user to a different section of the page. But i have not been able to do this. Is there a way to to create elements with different links? I am new to javascript so I am sorry if this doesn't make a whole lot of sense. If anyone is confused by what i am asking here I can try to clarify if I get some feedback. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, jason

• Why is the latency on one LVM volume consistently higher?

  I've got a server with LVM over RAID1. One of the volumes has a consistently higher IO latency (as measured by the diskstats_latency munin plugin) than the other volumes from the same group. As you can see, the dark orange /root volume has consistently high IO latency. Actually ten times the average latency of the physical devices. It also has the highest Min and Max values. My main concern are not the peaks, which occur under high load, but the constant load on (semi-)idle. The server is running Debian Squeeze with the VServer kernel and has four VServer containers and one KVM guest. I'm looking for ways to fix - or at least understand - this situation. • iFrame src something other than javascript:false but same effect

  Is there any other way to write javascript:false that is more pleasant? I'm building a print functionality for an intranet app (for IE6) and I make the printed page using an iframe: $('body').append('<iframe id="printIFrame" src="javascript:false"></iframe>'); $("#printIFrame").attr('style','position:absolute;left:-500px;top:-500px;'); Without having javascript:false in the src, I'll get the "This page contains both secure and nonsecure items" popup when I create it. However the downside of this is that "javascript:false" gets printed as the title on the bottom left of each page (instead of about:blank or something more useful). Is there some kind of javascript technique that I can write javascript:false but in cleaner terms? I tried something like this var PrintOut = false; $('body').append('<iframe id="printIFrame" src="PrintOut"></iframe>'); But I couldn't get that working. Any other ideas?

• Mac won't boot into safe mode

  Mac boots fine normally, except when in safe mode. Holding down shift when booting gets me to the progress bar on the grey screen. Progress bar gets about half way before mac reboots. I modified nvram boot-args to get a better look: sudo nvram boot-args="-x -v" It definitely gets through fsck, skips loading kernel extensions (since it's in safe mode), does something with the network interfaces, then this is the last thing it wips through... • nginx is not using gzip to talk to backend servers

  Our web servers are running IIS 7 and are configured to compress dynamic and static content. When I hit these servers directly, gzip compression works. I recently placed nginx in front of them, and gzip compression has stopped. I was able to work around this by explicitly enabling gzip compression on nginx itself, but that seems a little inefficient considering I have half a dozen backends and only one active nginx box. It appears that nginx is stripping out the Accept-Encoding header. Does anyone have any advice for how to 'correct' this behavior? A sample configuration: upstream backend { server 127.0.0.1:8080; } server { listen 80; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; location / { proxy_pass http://backend; } }

• jQuery 1.4.x and the @ symbol

  I used to use this script for jquery email obfuscation: $(".replaceAt").replaceWith("@"); $(".obfuscate").each(function () { $(this).attr("href", "mailto:"+$(this).text()); }); <a class="obfuscate">name<span class="replaceAt">-AT-</span>server.com</a> But with jQuery 1.4.x, I now get this error: uncaught exception: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: @ Looking this up on the net, it looks like jQuery thinks that the @ is a special character. I tried to "\@" it and a few other things with not luck. I'm not enough of a jQuery ninja to know how to fix this. Any ideas?

• Js/Jquery bind Datatable or Datalist

  Scenario I have a input box for post codes. When you put in a postcode it makes a call to a web service and gets all the suburb names back and binds them to a list, like an input dropdown list. This works when I return a List<string> from the web service for just the names. No problem. The problem arises when I go to save the values to the db. When it gets saved I cannot save the name of the suburb in the suburb column in the db. I have to save the id of that suburb for the foreign key constraint. So then I changed the List<> thing slighty and cheated and returned the following. <ArrayOfString> <string>8213</string> <string>BROOKFIELD</string> <string>8214</string> <string>CHAPEL HILL</string> <string>8215</string> <string>FIG TREE POCKET</string> etc.... The reason for this is so I can have the value of the item in the drop down as the id and hence can save that in the code behind on save. To do this, I did the following: $(result).each(function (index, value) { var suburbname; var pattern = new RegExp('[0-9*]'); var m = pattern.exec(value); if (m == null) { suburbname = value var o = new Option(suburbname, suburbid); /// jquerify the DOM object 'o' so we can use the html method $(o).html(suburbname); $(document.getElementById('<%= suburb.ClientID %>')).append($("<option></option>") .attr("value", suburbid) .text(suburbname)); } else { suburbid = value } That works as well... the drop down only has name and the value for those is the number The problem....? I am making assumptions above which I don't like... I.e. that the name never has a number it, that the web service will always return the id first to set the id before running the add to the dropdown for the first time. It just feels wrong.... :S (thoughts?) Note: essentially I need the option to look like this: <option value="8213">BROOKFIELD</option> I also thought I could make a second call to get just the id on the bind of the text... but I kind of want to only make one call.... • exchange 2003 to 2007, recipient update services

  going to try my best to explain: our exchange 2003 was migrated to exchange 2007 (was not here for the migration). Looking in active directory sites and services - services - Microsoft exchange - company - address list container - recipient update services i have two recipient update services 1) recipient update service (enterprise configuration) 2) recipient update service (my-domain) my guess is one of these is left from the old exchange 2003. (im guessing this because the migration was not done properly, the exchange server was never actually uninstall, it was just taken offline, and then later disposed of). could having two of these cause me issues, and if so, how do i know which one i could get rid of ? Im asking because i honestly have no idea. it might even be nothing. thanks

• Click GEvent.addListener with jquery

  Created a google map with GMap2 and put pinpoints on there that open up a balloon with the address when the pinpoint is clicked. I would like users to be able to click text on the page itself and use jquery to open up the corresponding balloon. However I can't figure out the ID to use to call a jquery click event. Basically I've got a store listing down the left side and when user clicks store name I want it to open up the corresponding balloon. GEvent.addListener(marker_500, "click", function () { map.openInfoWindowHtml(point, myHtml); } Any idea what element tied to this click event is? Tried $("#marker_500").click(); And that doesn't work. Also tried alerting $(this).attr('id'); inside the click function and that is undefined. thanks jason

• Dell Dimension running Fedora12 does a "Sleeping Beauty" and I am not am not a "handsome prince"!

  Dell Dimension 2350 with a Pentium IV processor and integrated video and network chips running Fedora12 does a "Sleeping Beauty" and I, apparently, am not am not a "handsome prince"! The system puts video and network to sleep and it will not wakeup. I have heard of this problem on laptops, but this is a tower. Any ideas or help is appreciated. I tried to ping the network card from another system and ping fails. The logs indicate that the system continues to be active. Pressing keyboard short-cut keys makes the disk light blink but neither the video or network card comes alive. Failing all else, are there any Linux commands that I could schedule in cron to pulse video and network adapters hourly that will keep them awake? Or, should I wait on Fedora13? Before this machine, I built a Dimension 2400 with Pentium IV and it had the same problem. Fedora9 on the same hardware is fine.

  I am using Pico via Terminal/SSH on an iPad with a French bluetooth keyboard. There is no way to type the carat (^) key to select text (control-carat to start selection). The carat on the keyboard is used to type a circonflex accent (août), and only becomes active when one types a letter after pressing it. There is therefore no way to type control-^. When I do type ctrl-^ in Pico, the cursor moves to the previous line. Is there an alternate way to select text in Pico? I can't see how to use it without finding a solution.

• Using both domain users and local users for Squid authentication?

  I'm working on a Squid proxy which needs to authenticate users against an Active Directory domain; this works fine, Samba was correctly set up and Squid authenticates users via ntlm_auth. Relevant lines in squid.conf: auth_param ntlm program /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=squid-2.5-ntlmssp auth_param ntlm children 5 auth_param ntlm keep_alive on acl Authenticated proxy_auth REQUIRED http_access allow Authenticated http_access deny all Now, I need a way to allow access to users which don't have a domain account. I know I could create an "internet user" account in the domain, but this would allow access, although limited, to domain resources (file shares, etc.); I need something that will allow only Internet access. The ideal solution would be using a local account on the proxy server, either a Linux account or a Squid one; I know Squid supports this, but I'm unable to have it use both domain authentication and Squid/local authentication if domain auth is unsuccesful. Can this be done? How?

• Roaming profile location not updating

  We have roaming profiles enabled for some users. We want to move some of them over to a new network share. We have copied the files to the location (using Windows backup so that permissions are retained) and we've changed the location in active directory (see screenshot 1). When the user logs in to windows 8 their documents folders still points to the old server (server names removed from the picture but you can see the path is different). The user has logged off and logged back on, and has also run GP update (followed by a shutdown/restart) What do I need to do to make Windows 8 recognise the change?

  I want to setup a click event trigger in jQuery for certain anchor tags. I want to open certain links in a new tab while ignoring ones with a certain class (before you ask I cannot put classes on the links I am trying to catch as they come from a CMS). I want to exclude links with class "button" OR "generic_link" I have tried $(".content_box a[class!=button]").click(function (e) { e.preventDefault(); window.open($(this).attr('href')); }); But that doesn't seem to work, also how do I do an OR statement to include "generic_link" in the exclusion? • PuTTY/SSH: How to Prevent Auto-Logout?

  My ISP's SSH server (Debian 2.0) logs me out after 35 minutes of inactivity, when connected with PuTTY (Windows XP). This is a big problem when I utilize the server for port-forwarding. The final messages displayed in the terminal: This terminal has been idle 30 minutes. If it remains idle for 5 more minutes it will be logged out by the system. Logged out by the system. PuTTY options that do not help: Sending of null packets to keep session active. Seconds between keepalives (0 to turn off): 30 [x] Enable TCP keepalives (SO_KEEPALIVE option) Any idea how to avoid the auto-log-out? Should I try another SSH client?

• Create Virtual Image of Laptop before Formatting

  I have a 3 year old laptop running Windows XP that I used for business. Although I have not used the laptop in over a year, I now want to re-commission it with Windows 7 and a fresh install. Before I do the fresh install I want to create a Virtual Image of the laptop that I can keep and potentially run on my desktop machine should I ever need to access any of the old files/projects that it contains currently. I know that most people will say just copy the files over to your desktop, but my concern is the configuration of the laptop. I used to use it for development and it has older versions of Visual Studio, SQL Server, Active X controls etc, etc than I currently use so I really want to preserve the environment not just the files. So really I am asking what is the best tool-set/method to achieve this? I understand there are free VM tools available but I have never done this before and would appreciate any help.

• CentOS/Apache killing connections

  Getting a really strange error. Basically, whenever I browse to my server (http://[ip_address] or http://[hostname]), it doesn't load, and my active SSH connection drops out. I installed CentOS 5.5, and then httpd and PHP 5.3. No other applications where installed, so I can't imagine it's something else causing it. I also reinstalled CentOS 5.5 again, completely fresh, the only thing I did to it was yum install httpd, and it still caused this issue. I've changed nothing in the config or anything else. Driving me mad, has anyone heard of this? It's really frustrating since everytime I attempt to debug this issue, I get kicked off SSH and have to log back in. Theres nothing in the Apache error logs, and nothing in the access log recording my attempt. Also, the result from uname - Linux [hostname] 2.6.35.4-rscloud #8 SMP Mon Sep 20 15:54:33 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Thank you

• Google chrome IETab login pages

  Hi, I'm using Google Chrome and for certain sites I need to use IE. I've installed IE tab classic but I've noticed then when I have pages that require an active directory popup login that chrome will prompt me for the username/password and then send switch over to IE. IE will always show a message indicating that a connection to the page could not be made and I have to then press the "Refresh the page" link and then be prompted again for the username/password (this time inside IE) and then the the login will work. Does anyone know why this happens and how I can just login once? thanks, Jeff

• virtualbox ftp hangs on list command

  Hi all, I have virtual box installed on a windows 7 64-bit computer, with Cent OS 5.5 as guest os. I want to be able to use ftp between those. I've installed vsftpd on the guest os, and the guest os uses a nat connection with the host os for internet. So far, I am able to connect to the guest os using ftp (in filezilla), but after the list command is executed, nothing happens, until the command is timed out. This happens in both active and passive mode. I do have set a pasv_min/max_port in the vsftpd.conf file, listing is enabled, and the ports are redirected in virtualbox. Also the ftp_data_port is set to 20. I also tried setting the pasv_address, but I had to set it to 127.0.0.1, but than filezilla gives me this: Command: PASV Response: 500 OOPS: bad family Command: PORT 127,0,0,1,139,204 Response: 500 OOPS: child died Can someone help me with this?
