• What way to use the CGContext to draw is suitable?

• Drawing selected state on custom UITableViewCell

  So I have a customer UITableViewCell whose whole display in drawn in drawRect. When it draws it creates CGLayers so that it can reuse certain pieces when something is changed. I have changed my UITableViewCellSelectionStyle to None because I don't want the default selected view to cover my drawing. So I call setNeedsDisplay in setSelected:animated: for my cell. But by the time drawRect is called, setSelected:animated: has already been called again to deselect the cell. In my table view controller in didSelectRowAtIndexPath I call deselectRowAtIndexPath as Apple advises. Any ideas? Thanks.

• Apply Button() to an element inside a variable

  If have a variable data = '<div>... <button id="remember"> ... </button> ...</div>', is it possible to apply the .button(); method to a button inside that variable? I've tried the following: $('#remember', data).button(); but that doesn't work. After that i just do $(data).dialog();, which works. I've come with a workaround and that's to append the variable data to the document, call the .button() and then call the .dialog(), but appending and removing dialog's divs on the document doesn't seems right.

  I have a PHP process that takes a long time to run. I don't want the AJAX process that calls it to wait for it to finish. When the PHP process finishes it will set a field in a database. There should be some kind of AJAX polling call to check on the database field periodically and set a message. How do I set up a jQuery AJAX call to poll rather than wait? Does the PHP script have to do anything special?

  I came into matrix world from loop world(C, etc) I would like to call a function on each individual member of a vector/matrix, and return the resulting vector/matrix. Thus, my question: Can one call a function on each member of a vector/matrix and return the result in a new vector/matrix all at once without using explicit loops?   I have a table in my view controller (let's call it TVC1). I have rows in TVC1 that are used so the user can input some more data in addition to the data on TVC1. So, when someone taps a specific row in TVC1, it will show another view controller (let's call it TVC2). However, when TVC2 is shown, all of the data in TVC1 is cleared. How can I save the data in TVC1? Should I do it through the app delegate?   Is there a way to do automatic implicit type conversion in Java? For example, say I have two types, 'FooSet' and 'BarSet' which both are representations of a Set. It is easy to convert between the types, such that I have written two utility methods: /** Given a BarSet, returns a FooSet */ public FooSet barTOfoo(BarSet input) { /* ... */ } /** Given a FooSet, returns a BarSet */ public BarSet fooTObar(FooSet input) { /* ... */ } Now say there's a method like this that I want to call: public void doSomething(FooSet data) { /* .. */ } But all I have is a BarSet myBarSet...it means extra typing, like: doSomething(barTOfoo(myBarSet)); Is there a way to tell the compiler that certain types can automatically be cast to other types? I know this is possible in C++ with overloading, but I can't find a way in Java. I want to just be able to type: doSomething(myBarSet); And the compiler knows to automatically call barTOfoo()

  I have a stateless bean something like: @Stateless public class MyStatelessBean implements MyStatelessLocal, MyStatelessRemote { @PersistenceContext(unitName="myPC") private EntityManager mgr; @TransationAttribute(TransactionAttributeType.SUPPORTED) public void processObjects(List<Object> objs) { // this method just processes the data; no need for a transaction for(Object obj : objs) { this.process(obj); } } @TransationAttribute(TransactionAttributeType.REQUIRES_NEW) public void process(Object obj) { // do some work with obj that must be in the scope of a transaction this.mgr.merge(obj); // ... this.mgr.merge(obj); // ... this.mgr.flush(); } } The typically usage then is the client would call processObjects(...), which doesn't actually interact with the entity manager. It does what it needs to do and calls process(...) individually for each object to process. The duration of process(...) is relatively short, but processObjects(...) could take a very long time to run through everything. Therefore I don't want it to maintain an open transaction. I do need the individual process(...) operations to operate within their own transaction. This should be a new transaction for every call. Lastly I'd like to keep the option open for the client to call process(...) directly. I've tried a number of different transaction types: never, not supported, supported (on processObjects) and required, requires new (on process) but I get TransactionRequiredException every time merge() is called. It looks to me like the transaction manager only operates at the bean level, even when individual methods are given more specific annotations. So if I mark one method in a way to prevent the transaction from starting calling other methods within that same instance will also not create a transaction, no matter how they're marked? I'm using JBoss Application Server 4.2.1.GA, but non-specific answers are welcome / preferred.

• Singleton again, but with multi-thread and Objective-C

  I know Singleton pattern has been discussed so much. But because I'm not fully understand the memory management mechanism in Objective-C, so when I combined Singleton implementation with multithreading, I got a big error and cost me a whole day to resolve it. I had a singleton object, let's call it ObjectX. I declared an object inside ObjectX that will detach a new thread, let's call that object objectWillSpawnNewThread, when I called [[ObjectX sharedInstance].objectWillSpawnNewThread startNewThread]; The new thread could not be executed correctly, and finally I found out that I should not declare the object objectWillSpawnNewThread inside the singleton class. Here are my questions: How does Objective-C allocate static object in the memory? Where does Objective-C allocate them(Main thread stack or somewhere else)? Why would it be failed if we spawn a new thread inside the singleton object? I had searched the Objective-C language [ObjC.pdf] and Objective-C memory management document, maybe I missed something, but I currently I could not find any helpful information.

• Qt QNetworkAccessManager does not emit signals

  The function CheckSite() is called with an url like http://site.com, it initializes a QNetworkAccessManager object and connect() slots and signals. The manger-get() call seems work (it generates http traffic) but does not call the slot replyFinished() at the request end.   I have been using South on my project for a while, but I recently did a huge amount of development and changed development machine and I think something messed up in the process. The project works fine, but I can't apply migrations. • ASP.Net MVC ReturnUrl Practice

  I have a question about the returnUrl querystring parameter that is appended by ASP.Net when attempted to hit a page that requires authentication. In looking at Microsoft NerdDinner Sample's LogOn action (along with every other 'sample authentication code' I see on the 'net), it just has the ReturnUrl parameter declared in the action's signature and uses it directly in a Redirect() call. However, back in the WebForms days and using Membership Controls, we use to use the FormsAuthentication.GetReturnUrl() call. Besides returning the 'default url' if no url was specified in the querystring, it also does a few security checks (Cross App Redirect and 'IsDangerousUrl()'). Are those no longer a concern or are all the sample 'log on' actions I'm seeing all over the 'net just ignoring those issues?

  Hello, I have a test suite to perform smoke tests. I have all my script stored in various classes but when I try and run the test suite I can't seem to get it working if it is in a class. In one of the tests the suite is set up like so: class InternalSanityTestSuite(unittest.TestSuite): # Tests to be tested by test suite def makeInternalSanityTestSuite(): suite = unittest.TestSuite() suite.addTest(TestInternalSanity("BasicInternalSanity")) suite.addTest(TestInternalSanity("VerifyInternalSanityTestFail")) return suite def suite(): return unittest.makeSuite(TestInternalSanity) Can anyone help me with getting this running? • Is it a Good Practice to Write HTML Using a StringBuilder in my ASP.NET Codebehind?

  I'm interested to hear from other developers their opinion on an approach that I typically take. I have a web application, asp.net 2.0, c#. What I usually do to write out drop downs, tables, input controls, etc. is in the code behind use StringBuilder and write out something like sb.Append(" I don't find myself using to many .net controls as I typically write out the html in the code behind. When I want to use jQuery or call JavaScript I just put that function call in my sb.Append tag like sb.Append("td...onblur='fnCallJS()'. I've gotten pretty comfortable with this approach. For data access I use EntitySpaces. I'm just kind of curious if this sort of approach is horribly wrong, ok depending on the context, good, time to learn 3.0, etc. I'm interested in learning and was just looking for some input.

• Calling Oracle Function with "complex" return value from C#

  I have an Oracle function returning record defined in the package, so one can do: select a,b,c FROM my_function(...); Calling this oracle function from .NET is as simple as executing normal sql query. Unfortunately the function has to do updates now and when it is called like this Oracle complains that updates are not allowed within selects and that makes sense. So now I am left with the choice to change the function call or to split the function. Basically I have to get rid of the select in the function call and need something like this in C#: EXEC :var:= my_func(...); where the type of var is custom tuple defined in the package. I have already tried using ParameterDirection.ReturnValue without success. Does anyone have an idea?

• Upgrading to IIS7 stopped Firefox from receiving cookies?

  Our website has been using IIS6 for a long time. We test on IE8, Firefox, and Chrome. All browsers worked fine. We recently did an upgrade to IIS7, and Chrome and IE8 continue to work normally, but Firefox appears to be unable to get the ASP session cookie. As a result, when our code checks the Session[] object, we see nothing, we think the user has logged out, and the site resets your session. Does anyone know why upgrading to IIS7 would cause this behavior in Firefox? We've: 1) Reverted our application pool back to classic mode (no change); 2) Added a dummy value in the Global.asax object (no change); and 3) changed the web.config file from "authentication cookieless=autodetect" to "cookieless=usercookie" and back (no change).

• Typecast to an int in Octave/Matlab

  I need to call the index of a matrix made using the linspace command, and based on somde data taken from an oscilloscope. Because of this, the data inputed is a double. However, I can't really call: Time[V0Found] where V0Found is something like 5.2 however, taking index 5 is close enough, so I need to drop the decimal. I used this equation to drop the decimal: V0FoundDec = V0Found - mod(V0Found,1) Time[V0FoundDec] However, eve though that drops the decimal, octave still complains about it. So, what can I do to typecast it to an int? Thank you.

  Hi - I'm playing around with the new yahoo API. I'd like to scrap some dummy data using the following address http://query.yahooapis.com/v1/public/yql?q=desc%20social.updates.search&format=json&diagnostics=true&env=store%3A%2F%2Fdatatables.org%2Falltableswithkeys&callback=cbfunc When I run this I get an authenticaion error (Need to be logged into Yahoo) This is fine obviously for me messing around on the internet. However I'd like to call this from a ruby script. Any ideas how I go about authenticating? I can only seem to find some web enabled version.

• Linq to SQl over WCF Timesout after several calls

  I have a L2S Repository class which instantiates the L2S DataContext in its constructor. The repository is instantiated at run time (using Unity) in a service hosted in IIS with WCF. When I run up the client MVC applicaton the calls to the backend WCF service work for a while and then timeout. I suspected perhaps a database issue as I was depending on IIS garbage collection to dispose of unused DataContext instances in the IIS host but when I checked the characteristics of the problem I notice the following: The client makes the call to WCF but the WCF service does not respond. Next, the client times out Some time later (several minutes) the service actually executes the request by instantiating the repository and servicing the call. I have checked both client and server traces logs and only the client shows WCF errors (the timeout error). Where should I look? Is it something in WCF or is L2S possibly blocking with unfreed conenctions, resources etc.? Many thanks Brian
