  • Can't use Bootcamp partition for Windows 8 installation

    I'm trying to install Windows 8 with Bootcamp on my Macbook Pro. Sadly it won't let me get past the disk partition choice (even after formatting the Bootcamp-drive). It says: Windows can't be installed on this storage device. The chosen harddisk contains a MBR-partition-table. Windows can only be installed on GPT-harddisks on EFI-systems. freely translated What is going wrong here? Here's a photo:

    I have an HD 250 Gb It is portioned to C,D,E C has 50 GB D has 50 GB and the rest is given to E, On C I have Windows 7, I decided to install Opensuse On E. I have installed Opensuse Successfully. Now Opensuse loader shows Windows7 option when I it loads but, when I chose to load windows 7 I get " A Disk read error occured, press ctrl+alt+e to restart". Does any one has an Idea How to fix windows 7 and keep Opensuse ? My Opensuse is 12.2. Thanks

  • Blue Screen error BAD_POOL_CALLER 0x000000C2

    My computer was working fine for months but now when it starts up the Windows XP screen comes up to show the computer is starting up but then a blue screen appears with the error below: BAD_POOL_CALLER STOP: 0x000000C2 (0x00000043, 0xDB3C6000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) I have tried booting off the Windows XP CD and trying to do a re-installation but when the setup try's to query the disk the setup crashes and exists. I've run diags and that says everything is fine. Any ideas?

  • Windows 7 Error Recovery upon boot

    My system doesn't boot at all, upon starting it takes me to the Windows Error Recovery screen saying "Windows failed to start, a recent software or hardware change might be the cause" and gives two options Launch System Repair (Recommended) Start Windows normally But neither options work, upon clicking either of them, some progress bars get displayed and the screen just freezes on "Starting Windows". I tried booting from the Windows 7 disk but it too freezes on the "Starting Windows" screen. I even tried booting from ubuntu, slax linux, but they don't work too.

I know that you can target a single application, but only one that is already running. I want to detect all readfile-events an application is trying to do, ever since it is started. I don't want to miss out on any event. How do you achieve this?

  • Windows 7 VM log on lockout

    My Windows 7 XP Mode virtual machine has just locked me out of password log on. Two years of use and it never required I use a password on wake up, I never asked for that. Suddenly yesterday, password required! I located password and used it successfully a couple of times, but now even that is not good enough! Perhaps (unfairly) because I tried to get to the bottom of the new phenomenon and removed the password from the user accounts? Permissions are still set to ok for all users. I have been all the way through the settings I can access with the VM file hibernated, and have deleted the previously saved log on info, which always previously worked automatically as charged. Now when I attempt to log on it asks me for credentials, seems like progress, but when I offer them, and check the "remember my credentials" box, I still get the splash screen "The system could not log you on. [reminder about caps...]" !! Round and round. Back up and restore point versions of the VM toss me back into the same log on loop. There are no other machines on any network, I am the administrator and sole user. It must be specifically about the log on, a speck of dust corruption ... is there a way around this? I tried creating a new VM but the black inner box gets stuck at one point requesting I insert a boot disc. Thanks for input, AKa

    I need to reinstall Windows 7 but the problem is that all my partitions are set to Dynamic disk type.Windows cannot install on Dynamic disc type partitions.During the installation process there is an option to format the drive but I cannot change the disc type.Is there any way to convert the partitions back into primary so that I can re-install Windows?I am a complete fool.I don't even know why I converted the partition in which Windows was installed into dynamic type. I have a 1TB HDD having 4 partitions and all of them are dynamic. Thanks in advance.

  • HP ProLiant DL380 G3 Running Windows Server 2000 has crashed between 6-7:30am for the past 5 days

    I have a HP ProLiant DL380 G3 running Windows Server 2000 that has been crashing everyday between 6-730am. This started when I changed out a failing hard drive 6 days ago. I have looked at the scheduled tasks which does not have anything pertaining to this issue. Below are the only things I see in the system log and some of the dump files.     Hi, How do I make Time Machine to make a new complete backup without losing older versions of backed up files? Verbose: I am using the Time Machine backup on my OS X (Snow Leopard) to backup the whole computer to an external drive. I especially like the "history", i.e. the feature that allows you to restore the older version of a file. Problem: I had some data corruption on my external backup drive, I repaired it with the System Tool for doing that, it found some faults. I had the disk tool repair the external drive. After that, the external drive was OK and I could use Time Machine again. I let Time Machine do one more backup. Now I made a verification according to http://superuser.com/questions/47628/verifying-time-machine-backups, namely along sudo diff -qr . $HOME/Desktop 2>&1 | tee $HOME/timemachine-diff.log However: After doing the command above, several differences and missing files were reported, approx. 200 files in sum. Whereas some of the missing files were cache or excluded directories, the differences do bother me, especially as some important documents from me are listed as differing. How can I make sure that the data on the external drive is synced correctly? Is it possible to have Time Machine to do a complete new backup without losing the history? Or to have Time Machine compare all files for differences and re-write all files that are different? Or can I set some flags on the files that do not match to have them copied again? (like the archive-flag in Windows/Dos). I'd rather not touch the files because I would like to keep the date of last change/date of creation) Thank you for your thoughts!

  • Output of free -m on a Linux server

    I can see from this page here: http://www.linuxatemyram.com/ That the correct amount of free ram is on the "-/+ buffers/cache" line. The extra ram being used is for disk caching. However, I noticed that the total amount of memory used listed in "-/+ buffers/cache" line is significantly less than the sum total of the "RES" column of the processes shown in top. And AFAIK, the "RES" column is how much physical memory is being used by a process. How do you explain this discrepancy?

During the Ubuntu installation, I mistakenly clicked on the first option which was to erase the disk and install. It was only after the installation, that I realized the mistake. My question is how can I recover my original files from the windows installation even though I accidentally reformatted and installed Ubuntu?

    After restoring this computer with a backup it appears that 2 of the 5 usb ports no longer work. I'm thinking that there is something corrupted on the backup disk causing the failure. When I plug in a usb keyboard to these ports the system will not recognize the new hardware on the 2 bad ports but does recognize new hardware on the remaining three ports. All the ports were working prior to the restoration.

    As per questions like this, cloning a VM in VirtualBox is possible, if not all that streightforward. However, everything I've seen indicates that before a VM is cloned, all the snapshots need to be folded back into a single disk image. But, what if I don't want to? Suppose I want to keep my stack of snapshots on the original, and then clone that VM such that the clone also had the same stack of snapshots available? Is that possible?

  • Running resize2fs on /

    I'm trying to resize an ext4 filesystem on a Fedora 11 box. Using fsdisk and lvm, I was able to grow the partition and logical volume containing the filesystem. When I try to run resize2fs on the device containing the filesystem (/dev/sda2 in this case), I get: "Device or resource busy while trying to open /dev/sda2, Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock" I've tried this from a rescue disk that doesn't have the filesystem mounted, no joy. Maybe resize2fs doesn't know about ext4?
