  • How do I find the IP address of a GPRS modem?

    I want to pull data from a device that is accessed via a serial protocol and has a GPRS modem attached which should allow transparent access over an IP connection. It seems to me that this approach is upside down, because how should I know at which IP address the device currently is? Unfortunately, the device itself is rather dumb, so I can't make it send something to my server, which would reveal the current IP. For home routers on dialup lines, there's dynamic DNS services. Is there something equivalent in the mobile world? Each modem would, of course, have its phone number as a reliable address, but how does that help me? Practically all material on GPRS etc. that I can find online seems to be concerned with initiating the connection from the modem side, since that's what the system is designed for.

    I am running VMware Workstation on a Linux box. When I power on a centOS (Linux) virtual machine I cannot get mouse or keyboard control of the machine. I suspect that it has something to do with the error message: You do not have VMware Tools installed in this guest. Chose "Install VMware Tools" from the VM menu. If I click on that menu option it inserts a virtual cd with drivers etc. This does not help me since I don't have keyboard or mouse control over the machine. I was thinking that if I could figure out the IP address or hostname I could use any number of protocols to get into the machine (SSH comes to mind). How can I get the IP address or hostname of this machine? Note: I did not create this machine. A coworker created it who is no longer with the company. Would save me a lot of time if I could get into the machine. I have login credentials so that won't be a problem.

  • Stop ssh client from offering all the public keys it can find?

    Like most sysadmins I use openssh all the time. I have about a dozen ssh keys, I like to have a different ssh key for each host. However this causes a problem when I am connecting to a host for the first time, and all I have is a password. I want to just connect to the host using a password, no ssh key in this case. However the ssh client will offer all the public keys in my ~/.ssh/ (I know this from looking at the output of ssh -v). Since I have so many, I will get disconnected for too many authentication failures. Is there some way to tell my ssh client to not offer all the ssh keys?

  • Writing Macros to find a specific cell and paste the value from a control cell into it

    I am having some issues writing a Macro to do the following. I have a very long list of rooms with two columns one containing the room number i.e. B-CL102 and the other containing a varying integer.I am looking to create a new column that will contain another different integer for each of the rooms. Is there any way to write a Macro so that I can use two control cells at the top of the sheet, type the room number into one and the integer matching that room into another, then run the Macro and it will automatically populate the correct cell. Then I can change the two values in the control cells and run the Macro again and so on. Thanks for your help, I have a very minimal amount of experience with Macros essentially just the basics.   • Why am I getting "Unable to find manifest signing certificate in the certificate store" in my Excel Addin?

    I've got an Excel add-in project that was created a couple years back in Visual Studio 2008. It's got some changes to be made so I've upgraded to Visual Studio 2010 (the only IDE I am able to use). Not sure if this is causing the problem but it's background information. When I check out the code and compile it I get the error, "Error 1 Unable to find manifest signing certificate in the certificate store." Can anyone tell me what this means and how to fix it?

Now I want to find out the "addr of foo". How do I do it? I want to confirm that the push statement is present before the jmp.   • Where can I find a control similar to the Firefox Rich List Box for use in my application?

    I'm trying to implement a control similar to Firefox's Rich List Box: However, I can only find the XUL implementation of this control, and I don't want to have to include a XUL processing engine in my application just to get a cool looking listbox. I've been trying to implement one on my own by customizing MFC's CListBox control, but am starting to realize it may take more time than I had intended. Before continuing to implement this control from scratch, I was wondering if anyone knew of a similar control that already exists, either commercial or open source. The main functionality I would like to have is: Small display for non selected items that expands when selected. Ability to add arbitrary controls to the expanded view. Preferably native code, but can probably use managed controls via native/managed interop with out too much extra work. Any help would be appreciated, I don't want to have to reinvent the wheel if I don't have to.

  • Cannot find libmysqlclient under /usr. while build PHP 5.2 from source on Ubuntu 12.4

    I was trying to build PHP 5.2.17 from source on Ubuntu 12.4 64bit using this configuration: ./configure --prefix=/opt/php5.2 --with-config-file-path=/opt/php5.2 --with-mysql but I keep getting this error: configure: error: Cannot find libmysqlclient under /usr. Note that the MySQL client library is not bundled anymore! I suspected that dev package for mysql is not installed so tried installing libmysqlclient-dev but it was already there. Any Idea how to resolve this? EDIT1: I minimized the configure command so it just focuses to mysql. also I'm running a 64bit version of ubuntu. I wish sometime to check have i placed it into the DOM before or it is still virtual. // check if elem is placed in the DOM (it's not) document.getElementByTagName('body')[0].appendChild(elem); // check - and it's finally in the document When use jquery i can write '$(elem).filter(':visible') or even $(elem).visible() if i remember correctly. But if it's based on the same javascript, then... All i want is to check does the element exist only virtually or it can be found in a document (and still may be not visible).

Problem: Write a fast algorithm that will find a point with integer coordinates in the same piece as (x,y) that is closest to the cross point of the two given lines. Note: This is not a homework, this is old Euler-type task that I have absolutely no idea how to approach. Update: You can assume that the 8 numbers on input are 32-bit signed integers. But you cannot assume that the solution will be 32 bit.

So how can I find out if the user, who might have su-ed several times since she logged in has not impersonated 'foo' at any time in that chain?     The following URL doesn't display for me in Internet Explorer 8. I even tried compatibility mode and it didn't fix the issue. http://beat.com.au/sites/default/files/images/_DSC5596.jpg It appears just fine in Chrome/Safari/Firefox. I suspect it has something to do with the filename starting with _ but that seems like a fairly big stretch to me. Is this error repeatable on other people's computers? And why on earth would such a strange thing happen anyway?

    We have this apache process which becomes io-bound time to time. Using atop, we can see it is a write operation. Using lsof -p <PID> we can see a list of files open by the httpd process. First we thought "log" files must be the problem. So we turned them off just to test. However write operations still continues. We will continue testing a few other things. For instance we use php session variables a lot. Maybe php session files are getting all the writing. But is there a way to quickly identify files which get written to by the httpd process? This way we can focus our efforts on those files. UPDATE: We used the strace command as suggested. Here are two lines from the output. write(23, "\27\0\0\0\3SET CHARACTER SET utf8", 27) = 27 write(23, "\17\0\0\0\3SET NAMES utf8", 19) = 19 We do not have a mysql process on this server. So is strace also showing what is being written to an ethernet port? UPDATE2: During high io load, the process which consumes most of the write resources gives the following output to strace -e trace=write -p <PID>: --- SIGCHLD (Child exited) @ 0 (0) --- write(9, "!", 1) = 1 write(19, "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0\r\nUser-Agent: Apache (internal dummy connection)\r\n\r\n", 70) = 70 However I cannot figure out where these are being written to.

  • Does anyone know where I could find a 2 input USB voltage meter?

    What we really need is a tiny UPS, of sorts. We'll be hooking up a solar cell and a battery to a single board computer. Currently, that SBC is a custom Pic32 device, and it does it's own UPS and voltage monitoring duties. I've been tasked with trying to replicate all of its features with off the shelf products... and for the most part I've succeeded. But I don't currently have any way to switch between two sources of juice, or monitor when they're getting low. These guys have something: http://www.mini-box.com/picoUPS-100-12V-DC-micro-UPS-system-battery-backup-system I really like it, the price is well within the budget. We might even work it in though it does 12V and I'll probably be using 5V... there are enough engineers on hand to figure out something. But I'd still have no idea what the voltage was for the PV or battery. I was hoping that there was some simple little USB multimeter thing that I could use to monitor this with, but I can't seem to come up with anything. I've found all sorts of cool hardware, but nothing that will help us. Does anyone know of anything?

    I work on a very large project (10000+ versions) and sometimes it happened that I need to know who of the other users deleted some line in a file. Is there a way to do that that? I can do svn blame with revision number to check if a line exists in that revision, then see in which revision the line is gone and see who commited that revision, but that procedure is lame with that large project. Is there a smarter way to do that?

    I'm trying to run a script that deletes a bunch of rows in a MySQL (innodb) table in batches, by executing the following in a loop: mysql --user=MyUser --password=MyPassword MyDatabase < SQL_FILE where SQL_FILE contains a DELETE FROM ... LIMIT X command. I need to keep running this loop until there's no more matching rows. But unlike running in the mysql shell, the above command does not return the number of rows affected. I've tried -v and -t but neither works. How can I find out how many rows the batch script affected? Thanks!

    I have 100+ gB of photos going back 25 years. They are arranged in a directory tree by category, with nested sub-directories. How can I make a search for all photos taken in a given month, say April, in any of those directories? I don't think that a Windows search will work as that will probably be the file creation data, which could be a month or two later wen I finally more the files from SD card to PC. Perhaps searching the EXIF data? Is there a free program which can do that?

    Hello, I have an attribute which is annotated with @Id. The ID is going to be generated automatically when persisting the object. That means that the ID-value is not defined before I persist the object. After persisting it, it has an ID (in the database), but unfortunately the field still remains null as long as I don't reload it from the DB. is there any easy way to find out the generated id?     Hi all. I'm using ubuntu linux, and I use bash from with a terminal emulator every day for many tasks. I would like to know how to find a string or a substring within a file that is within a particular directory. If I was knew the file which contained my target substring, I would just cat the file and pipe it through grep, thus: cat file | grep mysubstring But in this case, the pesky substring could be anywhere within a known directory. How do I hunt down my substring ?
