  • How to add properties to users in ASP.NET MVC2?

    - by giglegi
    After I have the initial ASP.NET MVC 2 website and the default Membership provider up, how do I start adding features specific to an user? Like, say, we want to let users choose their favorite products and we want to remember these choices somehow or add a favorite color property to an user? Where should these customizations go and how should they be associated with the out-of-the-box membership system?

  • Is ASP.net MVC a direct copy of Ruby on Rails concepts?

    - by Greg
    Hi, I'm been developing Ruby on Rails previously. I'm now looking at an ASP.net web app and I'm looking at WebForms and MVC. As I look at MVC it feels as if I'm looking at the result of something a Ruby on Rails developer implemented after being forced to work in MS land. So I'm wondering: Was MVC more or less taken directly from Ruby on Rails and it's concepts? (either intentionally or unintentionally)

For every "folder" (company, about and mission) I have to render a different View. Anyone knows how can I do that? Thanks!

  • Problem Implementing StructureMap in VB.Net Conversion of SharpArchitecture

    - by Monkeeman69
    I work in a VB.Net environment and have recently been tasked with creating an MVC enviroment to use as a base to work from. I decided to convert the latest SharpArchitecture release (Q3 2009) into VB, which on the whole has gone fine after a bit of hair pulling. I came across a problem with Castle Windsor where my custom repository interface (lives in the core/domain project) that was reference in the constructor of my test controller was not getting injected with the concrete implementation (from the data project). I hit a brick wall with this so basically decided to switch out Castle Windsor for StructureMap. I think I have implemented this ok as everything compiles and runs and my controller ran ok when referencing a custom repository interface. It appears now that I have/or cannot now setup my generic interfaces up properly (I hope this makes sense so far as I am new to all this). When I use IRepository(Of T) (wanting it to be injected with a concrete implementation of Repository(Of Type)) in the controller constructor I am getting the following runtime error: "StructureMap Exception Code: 202 No Default Instance defined for PluginFamily SharpArch.Core.PersistenceSupport.IRepository`1[[DebtRemedy.Core.Page, DebtRemedy.Core, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null]], SharpArch.Core, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b5f559ae0ac4e006" Here are my code excerpts that I am using (my project is called DebtRemedy). My structuremap registry class Public Class DefaultRegistry Inherits Registry Public Sub New() ''//Generic Repositories AddGenericRepositories() ''//Custom Repositories AddCustomRepositories() ''//Application Services AddApplicationServices() ''//Validator [For](GetType(IValidator)).Use(GetType(Validator)) End Sub Private Sub AddGenericRepositories() ''//ForRequestedType(GetType(IRepository(Of ))).TheDefaultIsConcreteType(GetType(Repository(Of ))) [For](GetType(IEntityDuplicateChecker)).Use(GetType(EntityDuplicateChecker)) [For](GetType(IRepository(Of ))).Use(GetType(Repository(Of ))) [For](GetType(INHibernateRepository(Of ))).Use(GetType(NHibernateRepository(Of ))) [For](GetType(IRepositoryWithTypedId(Of ,))).Use(GetType(RepositoryWithTypedId(Of ,))) [For](GetType(INHibernateRepositoryWithTypedId(Of ,))).Use(GetType(NHibernateRepositoryWithTypedId(Of ,))) End Sub Private Sub AddCustomRepositories() Scan(AddressOf SetupCustomRepositories) End Sub Private Shared Sub SetupCustomRepositories(ByVal y As IAssemblyScanner) y.Assembly("DebtRemedy.Core") y.Assembly("DebtRemedy.Data") y.WithDefaultConventions() End Sub Private Sub AddApplicationServices() Scan(AddressOf SetupApplicationServices) End Sub Private Shared Sub SetupApplicationServices(ByVal y As IAssemblyScanner) y.Assembly("DebtRemedy.ApplicationServices") y.With(New FirstInterfaceConvention) End Sub End Class Public Class FirstInterfaceConvention Implements ITypeScanner Public Sub Process(ByVal type As Type, ByVal graph As PluginGraph) Implements ITypeScanner.Process If Not IsConcrete(type) Then Exit Sub End If ''//only works on concrete types Dim firstinterface = type.GetInterfaces().FirstOrDefault() ''//grabs first interface If firstinterface IsNot Nothing Then graph.AddType(firstinterface, type) Else ''//registers type ''//adds concrete types with no interfaces graph.AddType(type) End If End Sub End Class I have tried both ForRequestedType (which I think is now deprecated) and For. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Ajax Auto Complete in ASP.Net MVC project - How to display a an object's name but actually save it's

    - by Ben
    I have implemented the Ajax Autocomplete feature in my application using a web service file that querys my database and it works great. One problem I am having is allowing the user to see the item's name, as that's what they are typing in the textbox, but when they select it, it saves the item's ID number instead of the actual name. I want it to behave much like a dropdown list, where I can specify what is seen and entered vs. what is actually saved in the database (in this case, the product ID instead of it's name.) I have this text box in my view, along with the script: <script type="text/javascript"> Sys.Application.add_init(function() { $create( AjaxControlToolkit.AutoCompleteBehavior, { serviceMethod: 'ProductSearch', servicePath: '/ProductService.asmx', minimumPrefixLength: 1, completionSetCount: 10 }, null, null, $get('ProductID')) }); </script> <p> <label for="ProductID">Product:</label> <%= Html.TextBox("ProductID", Model.Products)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessage("ProductID", "*")%> </p> Here's what is in my asmx file: public class ProductService : System.Web.Services.WebService { [WebMethod] public string[] ProductSearch(string prefixText, int count) { MyDataContext db = new MyDataContext(); string[] products = (from product in db.Products where product.ProductName.StartsWith(prefixText) select product.ProductName).Take(count).ToArray(); return products; } } Can anyone help me figure this out? I'm using this so they can just start typing instead of having a dropdown list that's a mile long...

  • WCF/REST Get image into picturebox?

    - by Garrith
    So I have wcf rest service which succesfuly runs from a console app, if I navigate to: http://localhost:8000/Service/picture/300/400 my image is displayed note the 300/400 sets the width and height of the image within the body of the html page. The code looks like this: namespace WcfServiceLibrary1 { [ServiceContract] public interface IReceiveData { [OperationContract] [WebInvoke(Method = "GET", BodyStyle = WebMessageBodyStyle.Wrapped, ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Xml, UriTemplate = "picture/{width}/{height}")] Stream GetImage(string width, string height); } public class RawDataService : IReceiveData { public Stream GetImage(string width, string height) { int w, h; if (!Int32.TryParse(width, out w)) { w = 640; } // Handle error if (!Int32.TryParse(height, out h)) { h = 400; } Bitmap bitmap = new Bitmap(w, h); for (int i = 0; i < bitmap.Width; i++) { for (int j = 0; j < bitmap.Height; j++) { bitmap.SetPixel(i, j, (Math.Abs(i - j) < 2) ? Color.Blue : Color.Yellow); } } MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); bitmap.Save(ms, System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Jpeg); ms.Position = 0; WebOperationContext.Current.OutgoingResponse.ContentType = "image/jpeg"; return ms; } } } What I want to do now is use a client application "my windows form app" and add that image into a picturebox. Im abit stuck as to how this can be achieved as I would like the width and height of the image from my wcf rest service to be set by the width and height of the picturebox. I have tryed this but on two of the lines have errors and im not even sure if it will work as the code for my wcf rest service seperates width and height with a "/" if you notice in the url. string uri = "http://localhost:8080/Service/picture"; private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); sb.AppendLine("<picture>"); sb.AppendLine("<width>" + pictureBox1.Image.Width + "</width>"); // the url looks like this http://localhost:8080/Service/picture/300/400 when accessing the image so I am trying to set this here sb.AppendLine("<height>" + pictureBox1.Image.Height + "</height>"); sb.AppendLine("</picture>"); string picture = sb.ToString(); byte[] getimage = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(picture); // not sure this is right HttpWebRequest req = WebRequest.Create(uri); //cant convert webrequest to httpwebrequest req.Method = "GET"; req.ContentType = "image/jpg"; req.ContentLength = getimage.Length; MemoryStream reqStrm = req.GetRequestStream(); //cant convert IO stream to IO Memory stream reqStrm.Write(getimage, 0, getimage.Length); reqStrm.Close(); HttpWebResponse resp = req.GetResponse(); // cant convert web respone to httpwebresponse MessageBox.Show(resp.StatusDescription); pictureBox1.Image = Image.FromStream(reqStrm); reqStrm.Close(); resp.Close(); } So just wondering if some one could help me out with this futile attempt at adding a variable image size from my rest service to a picture box on button click. This is the host app aswell: namespace ConsoleApplication1 { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { string baseAddress = "http://" + Environment.MachineName + ":8000/Service"; ServiceHost host = new ServiceHost(typeof(RawDataService), new Uri(baseAddress)); host.AddServiceEndpoint(typeof(IReceiveData), new WebHttpBinding(), "").Behaviors.Add(new WebHttpBehavior()); host.Open(); Console.WriteLine("Host opened"); Console.ReadLine();

  • Ensure that my C# desktop application is making requests to my ASP .NET MVC action?

    - by Mathias Lykkegaard Lorenzen
    I've seen questions that are almost identical to this one, except minor but important differences that I would like to get detailed. Let's say that I have a controller and an action method in MVC which therefore accepts requests on the following URL: http://example.com/api/myapimethod?data=some-data-here. This URL is then being called regularly by 1000 clients or more spread out in the public. The reason for this is crowdsourcing. The clients around the globe help feed a global cache on my server, which makes it faster for the rest of the clients to fetch the data. Now, if I'm sneaky (and I am), I can go into Fiddler, Ethereal, Wireshark or any other packet sniffing tool and figure out which requests the program is making. By figuring that out, I can also replicate them, and fill the service with false corrupted data. What is the best approach to ensuring that the data received in my ASP .NET MVC action method is actually from the desktop client application, and not some falsely generated data that the user invented? Since it is all based on crowdsourcing, would it be a good idea for my users to be able to "vote" if some data is falsified, and then let an automatic cleanup commence if there are enough votes? I do not have access to a tool like SmartAssembly, so unfortunately my .NET program is fully decompilable. I realize this might be impossible to accomplish in an error-proof manner, but I would like to know where my best chances are.

  • Copy New Files Only in .NET

    - by psheriff
    Recently I had a client that had a need to copy files from one folder to another. However, there was a process that was running that would dump new files into the original folder every minute or so. So, we needed to be able to copy over all the files one time, then also be able to go back a little later and grab just the new files. After looking into the System.IO namespace, none of the classes within here met my needs exactly. Of course I could build it out of the various File and Directory classes, but then I remembered back to my old DOS days (yes, I am that old!). The XCopy command in DOS (or the command prompt for you pure Windows people) is very powerful. One of the options you can pass to this command is to grab only newer files when copying from one folder to another. So instead of writing a ton of code I decided to simply call the XCopy command using the Process class in .NET. The command I needed to run at the command prompt looked like this: XCopy C:\Original\*.* D:\Backup\*.* /q /d /y What this command does is to copy all files from the Original folder on the C drive to the Backup folder on the D drive. The /q option says to do it quitely without repeating all the file names as it copies them. The /d option says to get any newer files it finds in the Original folder that are not in the Backup folder, or any files that have a newer date/time stamp. The /y option will automatically overwrite any existing files without prompting the user to press the "Y" key to overwrite the file. To translate this into code that we can call from our .NET programs, you can write the CopyFiles method presented below. C# using System.Diagnostics public void CopyFiles(string source, string destination){  ProcessStartInfo si = new ProcessStartInfo();  string args = @"{0}\*.* {1}\*.* /q /d /y";   args = string.Format(args, source, destination);   si.FileName = "xcopy";  si.Arguments = args;  Process.Start(si);} VB.NET Imports System.Diagnostics Public Sub CopyFiles(source As String, destination As String)  Dim si As New ProcessStartInfo()  Dim args As String = "{0}\*.* {1}\*.* /q /d /y"   args = String.Format(args, source, destination)   si.FileName = "xcopy"  si.Arguments = args  Process.Start(si)End Sub The CopyFiles method first creates a ProcessStartInfo object. This object is where you fill in name of the command you wish to run and also the arguments that you wish to pass to the command. I created a string with the arguments then filled in the source and destination folders using the string.Format() method. Finally you call the Start method of the Process class passing in the ProcessStartInfo object. That's all there is to calling any command in the operating system. Very simple, and much less code than it would have taken had I coded it using the various File and Directory classes. • Using Twain Dot Net in XBAP (Deployed via ASP.NET)

    - by Kaveh Shahbazian
    First Version: Is there a way to use Twain Dot Net in a XBAP (WPF in browser)? Second Version: I have a setup exe (installation) that puts TwainDotNet.dll and TwainDotNet.Wpf.dll on client machine and registers them in GAC (using gacutil.exe). I have also a XBAP page on my server (IIS). (The XBAP part of the project works fine locally and I am using those 2 twin libraries registered in GAC locally too. And on client machine I have registered my generated certification in Trusted Root and Publishers. I have tested my XBAP without Twin libs on the client machine(s) and it works fine; test XBAP edits a text file on client machine hard). Now; when I browse my XBAP on a client, I get : "Error getting information about the default source: Failure"; which I think happens in GetDefault of DataSource class. Is there any work around? Thanks

  • .NET Webservice Client: Auto-retry upon call failure

    - by Yon
    Hi, We have a .NET client calling a Java webservice using SSL. Sometimes the call fails due to poor connectivity (the .NET Client is a UI that is used from the weirdest locations). We would like to implement an automatic retry mechanism that will automatically retry a failed call X times before giving up. This should be done solely with specific types of connectivity exceptions (and not for exceptions generated by the web service itself). We tried to find how to do it on the Binding/Channel level, but failed... any ideas? Thanks, yonadav

  • Show alert message box from the Global.asax (on Application_Error event)

    - by Albert
    Normally I just redirect to a custom error page in on the Application_Error event, but I have a specific error for which I'd like to display an alert message while the user is still on the page which triggers the error. How can I make this happen? I'm open to a modalpopup or any other type of error message, I just want to ensure the user stays on the page where they encounter the error. Thank for any ideas.

  • Trying to run WCF web service on non-domain VM, Security Errors

    - by NealWalters
    Am I in a Catch-22 situation here? My goal is to take a WCF service that I inherited, and run it on a VM and test it by calling it from my desktop PC. The VM is in a workgroup, and not in the company's domain. Basically, we need more test environments, ideally one per developer (we may have 2 to 4 people that need this). Thus the idea of the VM was that each developer could have his own web server that somewhat matches or real environment (where we actually have two websites, an external/exposed and internal). [Using VS2010 .NET 4.0] In the internal service, each method was decorated with this attribute: [OperationBehavior(Impersonation = ImpersonationOption.Required)] I'm still researching why this was needed. I think it's because a webapp calls the "internal" service, and either a) we need the credentials of the user, or b) we may doing some PrinciplePermission.Demands to see if the user is in a group. My interest is creating some ConsoleTest programs or UnitTest programs. I changed to allowed like this: [OperationBehavior(Impersonation = ImpersonationOption.Allowed)] because I was getting this error in trying to view the .svc in the browser: The contract operation 'EditAccountFamily' requires Windows identity for automatic impersonation. A Windows identity that represents the caller is not provided by binding ('WSHttpBinding','http://tempuri.org/') for contract ('IAdminService','http://tempuri.org/'. I don't get that error with the original bindings look like this: However, I believe I need to turn off this security since the web service is not on the domain. I tend to get these errors in the client: 1) The request for security token could not be satisfied because authentication failed - as an InnerException of "SecurityNegotiation was unhandled". or 2) The caller was not authenticated by the service as an InnerException of "SecurityNegotiation was unhandled". So can I create some configuration of code and web.config that will allow each developer to work on his own VM? Or must I join the VM to the domain? The number of permutations seems near endless. I've started to create a Word.doc that says what to do with each error, but now I'm in the catch-22 where I'm stuck. • jQuery selector issue finding image with usemap attribute

    - by Greg K
    I have an image map in my page: <div id="books"> <img src="images/books.png" width="330" height="298" border="0" \ usemap="#map_books" /> <map name="map_books" id="map_books" alt="books"> <area shape="poly" coords="17,73,81,288,210,248,254,264, ..." \ href="/about" alt="books" /> </map> </div> I have a function that tries to find the image in the document using this map: function(elemId) { // elemId = "#map_books" if ($(elemId).attr("tagName") == "MAP") { // find image using this map var selector = "img [usemap=\\" + elemId + "]"; var img = $(selector); if (img.length == 0) { console.log("Could not find image using " + selector); } } It fails to find the image. Could not find image using img [usemap=\#map_books] I've escaped the elemId because it starts with a hash and tried variations of selectors. $("img [usemap$=" + elemId.substring(1) + "]") $("img").find("[usemap=\\" + elemId + "]") Neither find the image. Any ideas?

  • C# program that generates html pages - limit image dimensions on page

    - by Professor Mustard
    I have a C# program that generates a large number of html pages, based on various bits of data and images that I have stored on the file system. The html itself works just fine, but the images can vary greatly in their dimensions. I need a way to ensure that a given image won't exceed a certain size on the page. The simplest way to accomplish this would be through the html itself... if there was some kind of "maxwidth" or "maxheight" property I could set in the html, or maybe a way to force the image to fit inside a table cell (if I used something like this, I'd have to be sure that the non-offending dimension would automatically scale with the one that's being reduced). The problem is, I don't know much about this "fine tuning" kind of stuff in html, and it seems to be a tough thing to Google around for (most of the solutions involve some sort of html specialization; I'm just using plain html). Alternatively, I could determine the width and height of each image at runtime by examining the image in C#, and then setting width/height values in the html if the image's dimensions exceed a certain value. The problem here is that is seems incredibly inefficient to load an entire image into memory, just to get its dimensions. I would need a way to "peek" at an image and just get its size (it could be bmp, jpg, gif or png). Any recommendations for either approach would be greatly appreciated.
