    What can you use for a comprehensive platform for real-time analytics? How can you process big data volumes for near-real-time recommendations and dramatically reduce fraud? Learn in this video what Stubhub achieved with Oracle R Enterprise from the Oracle Advanced Analytics option to Oracle Database, and read more on their story here. Advanced analytics solutions that impact the bottom line of a business are challenging due to the range of skills and individuals involved in realizing such solutions. While we hear a lot about the role of the data scientist, that role is but one piece of the puzzle. Advanced analytics solutions also have an operationalization aspect that also requires close proximity to where the transactional activity occurs. The data scientist needs access to the right data with which to model the business problem. This involves IT for data collection, management, and administration, as well as ensuring zero downtime (a website needs to be up 24x7). This also involves working with the data scientist to keep predictive models refreshed with the latest scripts. Integrating advanced analytics solutions into enterprise apps involves not just generating predictions, but supporting the whole life-cycle from data collection, to model building, model assessment, and then outcome assessment and feedback to the model building process again. Application and web interface designers need to take into account how end users will see and use the advanced analytics results, e.g., supporting operations staff that need to handle the potentially fraudulent transactions. As just described, advanced analytics projects can be "complicated" from just a human perspective. The extent to which software can simplify the interactions among users and systems will increase the likelihood of project success. The ability to quickly operationalize advanced analytics projects and demonstrate measurable value, means the difference between a successful project and just a nice research report. By standardizing on Oracle Database and SQL invocation of R, along with in-database modeling as found in Oracle Advanced Analytics, expedient model deployment and zero downtime for refreshing models becomes a reality. Meanwhile, data scientists are also able to explore leading edge techniques available in open source. The Oracle solution propels the entire organization forward to realize the value of advanced analytics.

      I received the "Oracle Coherence 3.5" book in ebook format from Packt. I have been going through the ebook and I am really amazed with it. It is definitely a great guide for both experienced users and newbies. It is extremely well structured, and it's easy to read and understand. Additionally, the book contains a lot of useful information, including basic and advanced concepts, best practices, very useful tips and very good examples too.   In summary, if you want to become a Coherence expert, even if you are a Coherence newbie, this book is the way to go!   Further information about the book can be seen at Packt.

  • Workflow: Deploy Oracle Solaris 11 Zones

    One of the new workflows that we've introduced, which is a pretty good example of what workflows can do for you, is the Deploy Oracle Solaris 11 Zones workflow. This workflow was designed to show you everything you need to do in order to create and manage an environment with zones. It tells you what roles are needed, and it shows you the process using this image: The left side shows you the prerequisites for deploying Oracle Solaris 11 Zones - you need to have Ops Center configured on Oracle Solaris 11, have your libraries set up, and have your hardware ready to go. Once you've done that, you can begin the workflow. If you haven't provisioned Oracle Solaris 11, you do so, then create one or more zones, and create a server pool for those zones. Each one of these steps has an existing How-To, which walks you through the process in detail, and the final step of the workflow directs you to the next workflow that you're likely to be interested in - in this case, the Operating Zones workflow.

    Earlier during TechEd 2012, I presented a session on SQL Server Misconception and Resolutions. It was a pleasure to present this session with Vinod Kumar during the event. Great Indian Developer Summit is around the corner and I will be presenting there once again with the same topic. We had an excellent response during the last event; the hall was so filled, but there were plenty who were not able to get into the session as there was no place for them to sit or stand inside.   • SQL SERVER – How to easily work with Database Diagrams

    Databases are very widely used in the modern world. Regardless of the complexity of a database, each one requires in depth designing. To practice along please Download dbForge Studio now.  The right methodology of designing a database is based on the foundations of data normalization, according to which we should first define database’s key elements – entities. Afterwards the attributes of entities and relations between them are determined. There is a strong opinion that the process of database designing should start with a pencil and a blank sheet of paper. This might look old-fashioned nowadays, because SQL Server provides a much wider functionality for designing databases – Database Diagrams. When using SSMS for working with Database Diagrams I realized two things – on the one hand, visualization of a scheme allows designing a database more efficiently; on the other – when it came to creating a big scheme, some difficulties occurred when designing with SSMS. The alternatives haven’t taken long to wait and dbForge Studio for SQL Server is one of them. Its functions offer more advantages for working with Database Diagrams. For example, unlike SSMS, dbForge Studio supports an opportunity to drag-and-drop several tables at once from the Database Explorer. This is my opinion but personally I find this option very useful. Another great thing is that a diagram can be saved as both a graphic file and a special XML file, which in case of identical environment can be easily opened on the other server for continuing the work. During working with dbForge Studio it turned out that it offers a wide set of elements to operate with on the diagram. Noteworthy among such elements are containers which allow aggregating diagram objects into thematic groups. Moreover, you can even place an image directly on the diagram if the scheme design is based on a standard template. Each of the development environments has a different approach to storing a diagram (for example, SSMS stores them on a server-side, whereas dbForge Studio – in a local file). I haven’t found yet an ability to convert existing diagrams from SSMS to dbForge Studio. However I hope Devart developers will implement this feature in one of the following releases. All in all, editing Database Diagrams through dbForge Studio was a nice experience and allowed speeding-up the common database designing tasks. Download dbForge Studio now.   • Task Manager: VM Size smaller than Mem usage?

    The windows XP tasks manager can show two different columns regarding the memory usage of the processes. One is called Mem Usage and the other is VM Size (not on by default, you need to activate it) From what I've gathered, VM size is the size of the entire memory space occupied by the process and Mem Usage is the amount of memory currently committed and used. This assumption is verified by most processes when the VM Size is only slightly larger than Mem Usage for instance my Outlook currently has 79,724 K in VM Size and 56,600 K in Mem Usage But it fails for other processes such as Firefox which currently has 171,900 K for Mem Usage and only 156,440 K in VM Size. How can a process use more memory than the amount of virtual memory allocated to it? So Maybe my interpretation of these columns is wrong. What do they actually mean?

  • Oracle Joins XBRL US To Help Drive Adoption

    Recently, Oracle joined XBRL US, the national consortium for XML business reporting standards to stay ahead of the technology and help increase XBRL adoption by U.S. companies by 2011. Large accelerated filers were mandated to use XBRL starting in 2009; other large filers started in 2010 and all other public companies must comply in June 2011. Here is a list of other organizations that recently joined XBRL US: Oracle Citi Federal Filings LLC Edgar Agents LLC XSP For those of you who have been living under a rock, XBRL stands for eXtensible Business Reporting Language. Simply put, it's reporting electronically. Just like PDFs or spreadsheets are a type of output, XBRL is another output option in electronic form. Right now, the transition to XBRL means extra work for publicly traded companies because they need to file their financial statements in both EDGAR and XBRL formats. Once the SEC phases out the EDGAR system, XBRL will be the primary way to deliver financial information with footnotes and supporting schedules to multiple audiences without having to re-key or reformat the information. A single XBRL document can be converted to printed output, published via the Web, fed into an SEC database (e.g. EDGAR) or forwarded to a creditor for analysis. Question: How does Oracle support XBRL reporting? Answer: The latest XBRL 2.1 specifications are supported by Oracle Hyperion Disclosure Management, which is part of Oracle's Hyperion Financial Close Suite along with Hyperion Financial Management, Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management and Hyperion Financial Close Management. Hyperion Disclosure Management supports the authoring of financial filings in Microsoft Office, with "hot links" to reports and data stored in Hyperion Financial Management or Oracle Essbase. It supports the XBRL tagging of financial statements as well as the disclosures and footnotes within your 10K and 10Q filings. Because many of our customers use Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) for their consolidation needs, they simply generate XBRL statements from their consolidated financial results. Question: What if you don't use Hyperion Financial Management, and you only use E-Business Suite General Ledger or PeopleSoft General Ledger? Answer: No problem, all you need is Hyperion Disclosure Management to generate XBRL from your general ledger. Here are the steps: Upload the XBRL taxonomy from the SEC or XBRL website into Hyperion Disclosure Management. Publish your financial statements out of general ledger to Excel. Perform the XBRL tag mapping from the Excel output to Hyperion Disclosure Management. I was trying to use x11vnc to serve remote desktops to users but from what I have understood [after couple of hours] it directly serves the x display of only one user. I want to have something like windows 2008 login where every user connects and logins to his own desktop and has his own working environment. Is it possible with ubuntu server ? Thank you
