  • .NET Migrations Engine

    - by Karl Seguin
I was once under the belief that Microsoft was working on an official, ruby-like, Migration framework. However, I haven't been able to find any additional information (or even the original source of my belief). Does anyone know any information about an official migration framework? or possibly an open source one?

  • How to find out the exact RSS XML path of a website?

    - by Winston
How do I get the exact feed.xml/rss.xml/atom.xml path of a website? For example, I supplied "http://www.example.com/news/today/this_is_a_news", but the rss is pointing to "http://www.example.com/rss/feed.xml", most modern browsers have this features already and I'm curious how did they get them. Can you cite an example code in ruby, python or bash?

  • I want to learn a new language!

    - by Alex
Hi, I'm a college student majoring in computer science. I know java and will be learning C++ the next couple years at school. I want to add another language to my repertoire and have gotten conflicting advice: Ruby, Python, Perl, JavaScript, PHP, AJAX, among others. I was wondering what everyone's opinions were on the relative value of each of these languages in the job market, the ease of learning of each of the languages, and just personal preferences when it comes to the languages mentioned above. Thanks!

  • JRuby-friendly method for parallel-testing Rails app

    - by Toby Hede
I am looking for a system to parallelise a large suite of tests in a Ruby on Rails app (using rspec, cucumber) that works using JRuby. Cucumber is actually not too bad, but the full rSpec suite currently takes nearly 20 minutes to run. The systems I can find (hydra, parallel-test) look like they use forking, which isn't the ideal solution for the JRuby environment.

  • Passing direct parameters to a Controller#method when testing via RSpec

    - by gmile
Normally to pass parameters via in RSpec we do: params[:my_key] = my_value get :my_method Where my_method deals with what it received from params. But in my controller I have a method, which takes args directly i.e.: def my_method(*args) ... end How do I call the method with those args from within the test? I've tried get :my_method(args) but Ruby interpreter complains about syntax error.

  • What jquery rails 3 tutorial has worked well for you?

    - by finneycanhelp
Hi! I have looked at several tutorials involving rails 3 and jquery. The tutorial at http://www.blog.bridgeutopiaweb.com/post/how-to-use-jquery-for-rails-3/ looked promising. However, I get the errors of document.on is not a function and $("a[data-remote=true]").livequery is not a function I get the feeling that I should look at another tutorial or just use jquery raw and not install a ruby gem for jquery. Any advice? Thanks!

  • How can I persuade our team to use mac as our development platform?

    - by Allen Bargi
I'm joining a start up and there's a debate on which platform we should choose for our development; Mac, Linux or Windows? We're gonna use mainly open source tools and languages like, ruby, rails, PHP and mysql and photoshop (or something equivalent on Linux) for design. I suggested mac but they challenged me to be more persuasive. what's your idea? Help me with your persuasive arguments please.

  • RoR - Associations into practise - forms (View)

    - by NicoJuicy
I'm learning Ruby on Rails. I'm using some associations (has_many :through, ...) But i'm having some problems with it when i'm combining my views. How exactly do i combine these nested forms? Can i do this with partial forms and where do i have to write extra code for this? I have seen examples only use the "view" and others also edit the controller.... An example would be very nice :-)

  • File size in Python server

    - by Anna
We have server on Python and client + web service on Ruby. That works only if file from URL is less than 800 k. It seems like "socket.puts data" in a client works, but "output = socket.gets" - not. I think problem is in a Python part. For big files tests run "Connection reset by peer". Is it buffer size variable by default somewhere in a Python?

  • Web developement learning env

    - by David Oneill
I am currently learning Ruby on Rails. I currently do all my development on my laptop. However, I know in all "real world" situations, I will be connecting to a dedicated server that will hold the site. So here is my question: what are the pros and cons of developing on the machine I use vs running the website on a separate server?
