  • Photoshop - How to create master/detail pages?

    I am skinning up a website and other things in Photoshop but I am finding the PSD taking a very long time to load/save and I'm wanting to split the PSD file into several files. I've done this, but sometimes I need to adjust one thing and I have to change every PSD file so that the entire project is consistent. Ideally, I'd like to be able to create a master/detail (or a template) structure using Photoshop. What is the best way to achieve this goal? Thanks

    Got a Studio 17 with two headphone out jacks. It also has Soundblaster X-Fi Hi Def Audio Software enabled. Would it be possible to use one of the headphone outs as a monitor and the other as a master out with the Soundblaster sofware (for djing), or do you think the two jacks are just one output split into two?

    I have a few MP4s that i want to upload to my flickr account but they have a maximum size of 500mb as mine is only about 550 i was planing to simply split them in half then upload them, but i want to make sure all the meta data is included but it does not seem to be.     We have 3x ESX hosts and 2x SANS that we wish to move to a redundant 10G networking infrastructure. We have 4x Dell PowerConnect 8024F's to provide our backbone and are configured as so (only core switches relevant to this question): So the questions are: 1) Do the interconnects between the 4x 8024F's need to be LAG'd or just STP'd 2) As the NICs on the servers are split across 2 switches, does any special configuration need to be done here or on the switches? 3) If a link or switch fails will the switches automatically find a new path to the Server/SAN?

  • Dell E6400 Display issue - "doubling up" intermittently

    I've got a Dell E6400 It's suddenly developed an intermittent fault with the display Every now and again, it seems to boot up with "double vision" By that I mean, its split horizontally, with each half showing the same thing, but with low resolution, and looks grainy - if that makes sense (I will try to get a couple of pictures if I can) I haven't changed any hardware or anything. I have re-built windows, to see if that fixed the problem, it didn't. I've upgraded the BIOS to see if that would help, still same problem. I'm out of ideas :-(

    I'm doing some massive DB cleanups at the moment. We have two DBs both approaching 400GB and I'm wanting to split the DB's into departments. To do that I need to know the total size of mailboxes within an OU. I've run this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9796101/exchange-listing-mailboxes-in-an-ou-with-their-mailbox-size but this only gives me a list and I need a combined totalitemsize so know how big I need the new DB's to be.     Hello, Im looking for the best way to accomplish a full backup of our "vmail" accounts on our mail server (CentOS "iRedMail" 5.1). I also need to split on 4GB parts the resulting tar or bzip compressed backup, and get this DVD-RW burned, on same server. The idea is to get this procedure to running overnight, once a week. Our mail server holds about 45GB of information. I will appreciate any advise or help on this topic. Thanks.

Unfortunately, this month we're using a printer that wants an un-booked PDF -- with one page per page, in the right order. I can re-order pages easily enough, but is there any way to take a PDF which is essentially 2-up and split the pages?

    If I have a text file in Unix that contains N-many independent entries (e.g. records about employees, where each employee has a separate record), is it expected that this file will take up less space than if I split the file into N files, each containing the entry for one employee? in other words, can one save significant space on unix file systems by concatenating many files together, or is the difference negligible? thanks.

  • Make Emacs status bar draggable anywhere?

    In Emacs, if I split the frame (C-x 2), each window has a status bar. Historically, I could drag the status bar to resize them. Unfortunately, with Emacs these days and just a few modes (for version control, line/col number, abbrevs, my programming language, etc.), pretty much the entire bar has remapped mouse-1 to something other than letting me drag the bar! Is there any way to turn the status bar back into something I can drag, without losing all of my modes?

  • Ubuntu not booting, recovery mode not loading

    I have a dual-boot Ubuntu 11.10 and Windows 7 machine setup and last night I had to force shutdown Ubuntu during updates because it wasn't responding. Since then, Ubuntu will not boot up, only flashing a blank lit screen for a split second every couple of seconds. Booting in recovery mode does not help either, as it doesn't load at all. If anyone can help me diagnose what's wrong and figure out what to do, that would be greatly appreciated!

  • Suggestions for splitting server roles amongst Hyper-V virtual servers / RAID6 or RAID10? / AppAssure

    We have 2 Hyper-V hosts at present running 1 virtual server that was converted from a physical box running all roles. My plan is to split the roles over various virtual machines, upgrading to the latest software versions as I go, and use the backup server as a standby in case the main server fails. AppAssure backup software has a feature called Virtual Standby, so the VHD's can be ready to be fired up on the backup server if necessary. Off-site backups will be done via external USB drive for now. I'm just seeking some input/suggestions into how I'm planning to split the roles out amongst various virtual servers. Also, I'm curious how to setup the storage on the servers. We do not have any NAS's, SAN'S or any budget for this. What would the best RAID level be to use? I'm thinking either RAID6 (which is currently used) however I'm concerned about the write speeds, or RAID10 but again I'm worried that I can only lose 1 drive (from the same mirror) as opposed to any 2 with RAID6. I realise I have a hot swap for this, but what if a further drive fails during a rebuild? Is the write penalty of RAID6 worth the extra reliability over RAID10? Or will it be too slow with all the roles I am planning, therefore RAID10 is my only real option? The reason for the needed redundancy is I am the only technician and I'm not always on-site. Options I've considered: 1) 5 drives in RAID6 set, 200gb for host OS, rest for VM storage. 1 drive for hot swap - this is how it is currently setup 2) 4 drives in RAID10 set, 200gb for host OS, rest for VM storage. 2 drives for hot swap 3) 4 drives in RAID10 set for VM storage, 2 drives in RAID1 set for host OS. No drives for hot swap - While this is probably the best option with the amount of drives I have, I don't like the idea of having no hot swap 4) 3 drives in RAID6 set for VM storage, 2 drives in RAID1 set for host OS. 1 drive for hot swap All options give us enough storage capacity for our files, etc. We don't have any budget for extra drives or extra hot swap HD chassis for the servers. We have about 70 clients and about 150 users. I was thinking about LVM, but as far as i remember, Windows7 can't be installed on logical volume right? For now my plan is: - ~150GB for Windows7 and other stuff (VisualStudio..., maybe I'll split it 100/50 or something like that) - simple NTFS - 850GB = LVM - disk for linux (Ubuntu) and other stuff virtual machines etc. I'm mostly interested in how and what tools should I use to get easy in maintain partitions for both systems.

    I currently have a server(Linux) running with around 10'000 users daily on it. The hoster offers a backup which I'm also using. Although I trust my hoster, I would like to have an offsite backup, just in case the hoster goes down for a longer time or goes bankrupt (you never know). My idea was to tar and split the data and copy the archive to my Amazon S3 account but I'm wondering if that's the best idea? Any tip is appreciated. Thanks, Andy

    We are setting up a new database system and have 15 drives to play with (+2 on-board for the OS). With a total of 15 drives would it be better to setup all 14 as one RAID-10 block (+1 hot spare) OR split into two RAID-10 sets one for Data (8 disks) and one for logs/backups (6 disks). My question boils down to the following: is there a specific point where having more drives in a RAID-10 setup will out preform having the drives broken into smaller RAID-10 sets.
