    I just upgraded to snow leopard. How do I fix?   • PECL install error after upgrading to OSX 10.8

    I've just upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion and PECL is no longer working (it's on a test drive so no drama, but I'd like to get it working so I can upgrade the OS on my shiny new SSD as well). I'm using the native PHP installation, no macports/homebrew or anything like that. Running sudo pecl install uploadprogress (for example) produces the following terminal output: downloading uploadprogress-1.0.3.1.tgz ... Starting to download uploadprogress-1.0.3.1.tgz (9,040 bytes) .....done: 9,040 bytes 4 source files, building running: phpize grep: /usr/include/php/main/php.h: No such file or directory grep: /usr/include/php/Zend/zend_modules.h: No such file or directory grep: /usr/include/php/Zend/zend_extensions.h: No such file or directory Configuring for: PHP Api Version: Zend Module Api No: Zend Extension Api No: autom4te: need GNU m4 1.4 or later: /usr/bin/m4 ERROR: `phpize' failed I'm guessing the problem is the 3 grep lines. I've found several threads that suggest this is caused by XCode not being installed...but XCode is installed, and updated to the latest version (4.4). All the relevant symlinks to /Developer/usr/bin/* also exist as they should. m4 is currently at version: m4 (GNU M4) 1.4.13, so even though the output above contains a line pertaining to it, I don't think that can be the problem. I'm sure it's just a simple issue, anyone got any clues?

    I'm trying to build PHP for use as an apache shared module --with-apxs2 but also with the 'php-cgi' binary (fastcgi) on Mac OSX 10.6. I'm using this ./configure : /configure --prefix=/usr/local/PHP \ --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs \ --disable-ipv6 \ --enable-cgi \ --with-curl \ --with-mysqli=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config \ --with-openssl=/usr \ --enable-ftp \ --enable-shared \ --enable-soap \ --enable-sockets \ --enable-zip \ --with-zlib-dir It builds the apache php5.so module just fine, but in /usr/local/PHP/bin, there is no php-cgi file. If I build it without the --with-apxs2 option (and indeed, I don't even need the --enable-cgi option) the php-cgi file gets built with no problems. Background on my setup: PHP 5.3.4, Apache 2.2.14, Mac OSX 10.6, Tomcat with JavaBridge (which is why I need the php-cgi file) Without the apxs2 option, /usr/local/php/bin/php -v produces: PHP 5.3.4 (cli) (built: Dec 21 2010 21:35:14) Copyright (c) 1997-2010 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2010 Zend Technologies and /usr/local/php/bin/php-cgi -v produces: PHP 5.3.4 (cgi-fcgi) (built: Dec 21 2010 21:35:12) Copyright (c) 1997-2010 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2010 Zend Technologies My question is, what am I not understanding with php SAPIs that won't allow the building of the two modules at the same time? Even before the installation starts, an error message appears saying: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installation has failed. SQL Server 2008 Setup requires .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 to be installed. I have installed everything in the hope of getting past this. the service pack it refers to has even been installed and I can see them in the control panel! I have installed Framework 2.0, Framework 2.0 SP1, Framework 3.5, Framework 3.5 SP1, Windows Installer 3.5 and Windows Installer 4.0. Even installed the Service Pack for SQL Server 2008.... But, nothing, works! Does anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong or what could be wrong? I'm seriously close to the end of my tether, I've even sent Steve Ballmer an email with my frustration. I would seriously appreciate some help with this. Many thanks!

  • PHP Page Stopped outputting content After Running "yum install php-devel" Command

    This error is bizarre but after running the "yum install php-devel" command (after a long day of trying to install Facedetect and OpenCV for face detection) my site stopped functioning. The site uses mysql and php. When you hit the url, the page executes the mysql and the php, but it appears to randomly stop outputting the content of the page. None of the code was changed and the site was working flawlessly prior to running the mentioned ssh command. I do use output buffering in the site, but after removing the calls "ob_flush", "ob_end_flush" and "ob_start" it didn't appear to help—still having issues with the site. Any ideas what this could be?   • Best ASP.NET E-Commerce Framework (aspDotNetStoreFront, AbleCommerce, BVCommerce, MediaChase,...)

    I need a full-featured asp.net E-Commerce solution for a project. It needs to be easily extensible as I need to extend it to integrate with a custom Flash based personalization engine. It should also have a great administrative back-end that handles inventory tracking, report, labels, shipping, ... so that the client can really use it as the basis for their business. I've used quite a few different E-Commerce systems including OSCommerce, Zen Cart, Catalook, and eTailer. While I was impressed with Zen Cart and eTailer, this project is big enough that I want to try a more serious, commercial offering. I'm particularly interested in thoughts on aspdotnetstorefront, BVCommerce, AbleCommerce, and MediaChase. [UPDATE] I've done quite a bit of evaluation since I posted this question and will give some of my findings below: BVCommerce - The price point is nice, the product seems fairly well regarded, and I've heard good things about customizing/extending it, it just doesn't seem like it's going to meet my needs as an Top Tier ECommerce solution. After viewing the tutorial videos, the Admin interface just seems too basic and outdated. aspDotNetStorefront - The integration with DotNetNuke was it's biggest selling point for me but after reading peoples opinions, it's integration seems quite weak. It's sounds like there's a significant learning curve and the architecture just doesn't sound like it's as clean as it should be. AbleCommerce - After a rather thorough evaluation, I have selected AbleCommerce for at least my next project. The Admin interface is beautiful and has a nice list of features. The E-Commerce portion of the user side is very well done, highly skin-able (using Master Pages and a couple other techniques), and the checkout workflow has all the features I need while still being very clean. Source to the API can be bought for $500 but you generally won't need it. There are some 3rd party modules available but there's not currently a large market for these. The biggest glaring weakness of AbleCommerce I've found is their CMS capabilities are very limited and not at all well suited for a non-technical user to make most site content updates. But I have a good solution for that that I plan adapting into AbleCommerce. They will automatically generate a site for you to play with to your heart's content for 30 days. It is defniitely worth checking out.

  • ADO Entity Framework 4 to WPF Datagrid. DatagridComboBox nightmare.

    The WPF datagrid -seems- like it's going to work, but the combobox implementation does not work straight from the designer. So I'm left wandering around in the XAML randomly changing things trying to get it to work. The problems are numerous. I want to display a foreign key relationship (with drop down) instead of a bunch of numbers for a selection. It seems like it shouldn't be this hard. I can get the right values to show up (their description instead of an ID), but the table freaks out thinking that all the values have been modified. If I select a drop down, it refuses to allow me to edit anything else. I want to chalk this up as a .NET bug, but since I'm new to WPF datagrids, it's probably just me.   • Selenium Webdriver (FirefoxDriver)

    Hey all, I'm using Selenium Webdriver to do some robottesting. Since some functions appear to only work in Firefox, I'm obligated to use Firefoxdriver. Now and then, something weird happens. Starting up te driver driver = new FirefoxDriver(); driver.get(URL); gets firefox to startup but not to go to the specified url. The strange thing is that it works on another computer with the same preferences set in Firefox. I solved this problem once by changing to another version of firefox, but this time this doesn't do the trick for me, it did however worked for the other developers. Yes, the error started for all developers on the same time, same day... My first question is: is it a firefox problem or Webdriver problem.   • What version of the .NET framework ahould I target?

    I'm a desktop C# developer (that is not ASP) and am wondering about version targeting for small personal projects. These are, of course, trying to reach as wide an audience as possible, and so I've been targeting .NET 3.0 (which is the latest version on a Windows Vista system without any service packs) and 2.0 (which is simply the most compatible version compatible with VS2008). Unfortunately, this precludes me from learning any technologies such as LINQ introduced post 3.0, and, with an upcoming switch to VS2010, I'm wondering if I should target the new 4.0 platform at the expense of uses without the latest and greatest, or should I just stick to trying to reach as wide a userbase as possible?

  • Asynchronous pages in the ASP.NET framework - where are the other threads and how is it reattached?

    Sorry for this dumb question on Asynchronous operations. This is how I understand it. IIS has a limited set of worker threads waiting for requests. If one request is a long running operation, it will block that thread. This leads to fewer threads to serve requests. Way to fix this - use asynchronous pages. When a request comes in, the main worker thread is freed and this other thread is created in some other place. The main thread is thus able to serve other requests. When the request completes on this other thread, another thread is picked from the main thread pool and the response is sent back to the client. 1) Where are these other threads located? 2) IF ASP.NET likes creating new threads, why not increase the number of threads in the main worker pool - they are all running on the same machine anyway? 3) If the main thread hands off a request to this other thread, why does the request not get disconnected? It magically hands off the request to another worker thread somewhere else and when the long running process completes, it picks a thread from the main worker pool and sends response to the client. I am amazed...but how does that work?
