  • Implenting ActiveRecord with inheritance?

    I recently converted an old application that was using XML files as the data store to use SQL instead. To avoid a lot of changes I basically created ActiveRecord style classes that inherited from the original business objects. For example SomeClassRecord :SomeClass //ID Property //Save method I then used this new class in place of the other one, because of polymorphism I didn't need to change any methods that took SomeClass as a parameter. Would this be considered 'Bad'? What would be a better alternative?

    The Posterous instructions for adding Google Analytics ends with pasting the Google Analytics Domain ID into the settings page. However, the instructions given by Google tell me to paste some JavaScript code into the <head>. How do I get around with this? Do I need to paste the JavaScript code? If I do need to paste the JavaScript code, can I just paste it into the custom HTML/CSS style specification of my Posterous Space?

  • How do I block a single css file from being loaded with firefox or chrome?

    I want to be able to block one css file from loading on my system. The site has multiple sheets that I do want to load but it has one hideous theme.css file that I just have to get rid of. I would prefer to use Chrome but FF is ok too. A system wide ban on the file would be ideal. I want to specify a single url that the computer becomes incapable of fetching it. I will then use stylish to create my own replacement. BTW its a SharePoint theme and it has way too many rules to have to override. Thanks

  • Source File not updating Destination Files in Excel

    I have one source file that holds all my input costs. I then have 30 to 40 destination files (costing sheets) that use links to data in this source file for their various formulae. I was sure when I started this system that any changes I made to the source file, including the insertion of new rows and columns was updated automatically by the destination files, such that the formula always pulled the correct input costs. Now all of a sudden if my destination files are closed and I change the structure of the source file by adding rows - the destination files go haywire? They pick up changes to their linked cells, but don't pick up changes to the source sheet that have shifted their relative positions in the sheet. Do I really need to open all 40 destination files at the same time I alter the source file structure? Further info: all the destination files are protected, and I am working on DropBox.

  • Can I use Veritias Storage Manager to provide HA storage using server-local storage?

    I have a need to provide an high-availability ftp/http file repository. Upload will happne to one server, but the uploaded file must be immediately visisble on all other servers I can handle the failover of the servers themeselves using load balancers. But in the event of failure of one server, the other servers must see the same contents of the repository. Normally, I'd use a SAN for this, but in this case the data centre standards do not allow SAN/external storage - all storage will be local to the servers. Cam I use Veritas Storage Manager (or any other product) to manage mirroring hte contents between servers in this way? Or does that require a SAN? I couldn't tell either way from a quick look at the data sheets etc.

  • Excel, Lookup special characters and spaces.

    I have an excel, spreadsheet that has multiple sheets. The first sheet is an index of files, I am using the following forumla to look up a value in column A, references against the index sheet, if it matches then it copies the value from column B from the index sheet. The forumla is: =IF($A3="", "", (LOOKUP($A3, INDEX!$A$3:$A$26, INEDEX!B$3:B$26))) It works for data that has no spaces and special characters, anybody have any ideas why it doesn't work and how I can make it work?     I'm building an rts style overhead tileset game with JavaScript (particularly using Ember.js framework as a base). The map is so large that I'd very much like to be able to load and render the board and layered items in a Google Maps'esque. I'm curious as to whether there are existing libs that would be helpful and already well thought out in these regards vs trying to reinvent the wheel. Are there any such libraries or code examples that would be useful in this area of board / map management?

  • Working Qt controls in a 3d environment

    I need some advice from a Qt expert. The background: I have a 3D engine (ogre3d) working in concert with Qt. The 3D Content is displayed in a widget (using a custom OS window in the client area). I'm able to overlay arbitrary Qt widgets onto the 3d world using the widget render() method and a shared bitmap. This makes a great "heads up display". I can use the standard Qt style sheets and animation using this technique. My goal I'd like to go a step further and allow the user to move these rendered widgets using the mouse. I'd like some advice on the best way to implement this. Possible solutions: The widgets in the HUD are not part of the inheritance chain. I render them manually. They don't get events though. I could add them to the inheritance chain so they get events in the usual way. Then I would need to change them to render to my shared bitmap instead of to the operating system. I looked at this once but couldn't find enough information to implement it. Capture mouse events in the 3D display widget and EMIT them to child controls. I basically create my own event handling chain. Any suggestions on how to implement this? I'm also considering switching to Qt5. I'm not sure how that might affect this decision.

  • How do I resolve the error "Excel found unreadable content in (filename)"?

    Has anyone else seen this? Sometimes when I open certain worksheets in Excel 2010 I see the message in the title. Excel then asks if I want to repair the file. I say "Yes" and Excel reports that the file is repaired. A log file says something about removed records. However, there does not seem to be anything missing from the file, and all sheets and VB macros in the workbook work just fine. Any suggestions?

  • Hi, I want to write a python script to do some things in excel [closed]

    I want to write a python script that will open up this one excel file, "refresh" on the Bloomberg tab (with the Bloomberg add-in), and export all the individual sheets as csv? How can I do this? What are the basic things I should know and is there any reference script that I can use? I'm using Excel 2010 with the bloomberg plugin. You have to take the time to get the requirements right.  Be honest with all involved parties as to the amount of time it is taking to refine the requirements.  The only thing worse than wrong requirements is a surprise in budget overages.  If you give open visibility to your progress then management has the ability to shift priorities if needed. In order to capture the best requirements use different approaches to help your stakeholders to articulate their needs.  Use mock ups and matrix spread sheets to allow them to visualize and confirm that everyone has the same understanding.  The goals isn’t to record every last detail, but to have the major landmarks identified so there are fewer surprises along the way. Help the team members to understand that you all have the same goal.  You want to create the best possible solution for the given business problem.  If you do this everyone involved will do there best to outline a picture of what is to be built and you will be able to design an appropriate solution to fill those needs more easily.     IronScheme is mentioned on Wikipedia as a successor to a failed project called IronLisp, bringing Lisp to CLR and .NET, the way Clojure does for the JVM.   • Excel: #NAME? apppearing when linking/referencing other spreadsheets/workbook cells

    I'm updating a spreadsheet that refers to data in another worksheet =NameofWorksheet for some reason I get #NAME? in some of the cells, even when the actual path is correct. The only way to overcome the problem is to open up the source spreadsheet and then recalculate the destination spreadsheet. But, if I then close the workbooks; open up just the destination workbook the #NAME? issue comes back. I've even created a test destination spreadsheet and it doesn't suffer from the #NAME? problem. Any reason for this? Should I be worried about the integrity of some Sheets? Any advice greatly appreciated. Michael.
