  I have two oracle user defined types: Audit_Type – A normal object with two fields a string and a number Audit_Table_Type – A table of audit_types, (an array) I have a stored procedure that takes as a parameter an Audit_Table_Type. List<Audit_Type> table = new List<Audit_Type>(); var query = session.CreateSQLQuery("call Audit_Rows(Audit_Table_Type(:table))") .SetParameterList("table", table, NHibernateUtil.Custom(typeof(AuditTypeUDT))) This is what I did intuativly created the ICompositeType and just set in a list of them in but this gives me nothing close to what I wanted. I couldn’t figure out how to bind to a table at all. I have built the inline sql that would do this for me but it would destroy my shared pool (not using binds). So a General question how do I bind to complex/composite types using Nhibernate?

  Hi I have managed to load an XDocument with xml data from this link http://go.yr.no/go/e/main/http://www.yr.no/place/Norway/Telemark/Sauherad/Gvarv/forecast.xml. I am using C# and .Net in Blend and producing a web app (ie some of the normal .Net functions is not included in the silverlight plugin). I have researched this a lot but can not figure out: how to put the "text" in the link node in a string variable and how to all put the "-11" from ? in a array and link it to the "time from"? I understand very well that everyone starting with that SDK is too exited about getting its hand on it but a few reading would save them hours of debugging and the frustration that come along with the feeling that "We miss something here". I'd like experience users to share the few small articles, white papers, docs, book chapters that helps other save their time and avoid frustration. • How can open source projects obtain license for commercial software without spending a lot of money?

  I just joined an open source project on codeplex. The project is based on the .NET compact framework. So the development tool is Visual Studio. Currently I am using some trial version of Visual Studio which is going to end and I wondered how can I obtain a valid license to work on the project without spending a lot of money. Please pay attention that the Express edition does not help me since my application is running on Windows Mobile 6.5 which is not supported on the Express edition (and the 2010 Express edition supports only Windows Mobile Phone 7 series development). In the general sense, are there some organizations that donate software licenses for open source projects?

• dependencies linking isnt enough?

  In Visual Studio (C++) the other day, I was trying to build some example code and it would not work, even though I was pointing at the right include and lib directories. (I got linker errors) I asked a friend who fixed the problem by specifying the necessary .lib files in the General Properties-Linker-Input field of the project settings. My questions: Simply pointing to the directory with the .lib files is not enough? You need to specifically tell the linker which lib files to link? By listing the .lib files in the "additional dependencies" field, am I specifying exactly which static libs get built into the exe? If the answer to this is yes, then will these be the ONLY lib files that get built into the exe? Why is it called "additional" dependencies? Is there another place to specify lib files to include? Before I thought this was done by including the necessary header file? Thanks everyone! Russel

  I'm just getting into Python and I really like the terseness of the syntax. However; is there an easier way of writing an if-then statement so it fits on one line? For example; say I have the simple test: if count == N: count = 0 else: count = N + 1 is there a simpler way of writing this? I mean, in Objective-C I would write this as: count = count == N ? count = 0 : count = N + 1; Is there something similar for python? Edit I know that in this instance I can use count == count % N. I'm asking about the general syntax.

  Pretty basic question, however, I am very new to jQuery and javascript in general. I have a jQuery validation that is requiring a text box to have text in it, if a checkbox is checked. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $("form").validate( { rules: { Comments: { required: "#IsAbnormal:checked" } }, messages: { Comments: { required: "Comments are required" } }, onkeyup: false, wrapper: "", errorLabelContainer: "#ErrorMessageBox" }); }); Pretty straight forward, if you check the IsAbnormal checkbox, it will throw a validation if there are no comments. What I am trying to do is require a textbox based on if another text box has any text in it, for instance require the old password if a user enters a new password into a textbox. Is there an easy way to get the required: "#NewPassword:NotBlank" to work?

  I am using ASP.Net MVC but this probably applies to all MVC patterns in general. My problem, for example I have companies and in each company I have a list of contacts. When I have selected a company I can see its details and a list of the contacts for that company. When I want to add a new contact for that company, should the implementation of that action go into the company controller as an "AddContact" action or should it go into the contact controller into a "New" action and we pass the Company ID in the URL? What is the usual way of dealing with this sort of thing in ASP.Net MVC? Is there a better stategy?

  Hi; I have n documents and want to find common words that are included in these documents. For example I want to say (n-3) documents include the word "web". Certainly I can do this by basic data structures but there maybe efficient algorithm or a way to handle same words with different suffix. Is there any algorithm for such purposes? I am unfamiliar with datamining world. In general manner is there a term used for efforts of finding similarities between different documents? If there is then I will make my research easily.   Hello, Consider this code running on my microcontroller unit(MCU): while(1){ do_stuff; if(packet_from_PC) send_data_via_gpio(new_packet); //send via general purpose i/o pins else send_data_via_gpio(default_packet); do_other_stuff; } The MCU is also interfaced to a PC via a UART.Whenever the PC sends data to the MCU, the *new_packet* is sent, otherwise the *default_packet* is sent.Each packet can be 5 or more bytes with a pre defined packet structure. My question is: 1.Should i receive the entire packet from PC using inside the UART interrut service routine (ISR)? In this case, i have to implement a state machine inside the ISR to assemble the packet (which can be lengthy with if-else or switch-case blocks). 2.Detect a REQUEST command (one byte)from the PC in my ISR set a flag, diable UART interrupt alone and form the packet in my while(1) loop by polling the UART?

  When using bundler with a project in general and Rails specifically, you have access only to gems defined in your Gemfile. While this makes sense, it can be limiting. Mostly I find it limiting when I want to use a certain RSpec formatter that the rest of the team doesn't use. Unless it's in the Gemfile, it isn't accessible. Any way around it or I have to add it to Gemfile? Update: my problem wasn't Bundler but Spork. When running RSpec without Spork I had no problem of using whatever formatter I wanted.

  I have a game that I am working on in a C# console application, purely as practice before going on to better methods. As opposed to using something such as a Windows Forms App, which has button functionality built in, I am endeavoring to grab the cursor position (which I know how to do) and compare it to a number of area's inside a console application as defined by perhaps pixel location, but I also do not know if there is some sort of built in unit of space other than pixels (this last bit is the part I am unable to figure). P.S. I know this is in general terms, with no code already provided, but I do not feel that it is needed as all I am asking for is a brief explanation of how to grab X Y coordinates inside a console application, and stick them in int variables. • How to use GWT on mobile devices?

  hi I have a fairly large web application developed with GWT (and EJB). However on mobile devices (like windows mobile, black berry and such) the GWT start page remains simply white. I'm using GWT 1.6 and also tried 1.7 but nothing helps. It seems that the java script isn't executing and also isn't the noscript tag. Do you know how to make it working without rewriting the whole application in e.g. PHP?? I think it may be a general prob with GWT apps and not with my specific app. thx

  I have a list of node ids and I want to display the 'page' view of each one. For various reasons, I don't want to do this with views, and don't think I should need a module. Just an API call to theme('node'). Something like: $nids = array(3,4,5); foreach ($nids as $nid) { $node = node_load($nid); $result .= theme('node', $node); } but I'm not getting back the full page view of the node. I added this to my node-[type].tpl.php file: if ($page) print "PAGE MODE "; else print "NOT PAGE "; if ($teaser) print "TEASER MODE "; else print "NOT TEASER "; and got: NOT PAGE NOT TEASER I seem to be in some kind of limbo. I suspect there's an argument that I add to the theme function, but the terms are all so general (theme, teaser, page, node), I'm having trouble with my google-fu.

• Is a program compiled with -g gcc flag slower than the same program compiled without -g?

  I'm compiling a program with -O3 for performance and -g for debug symbols (in case of crash I can use the core dump). One thing bothers me a lot, does the -g option results in a performance penalty? When I look on the output of the compilation with and without -g, I see that the output without -g is 80% smaller than the output of the compilation with -g. If the extra space goes for the debug symbols, I don't care about it (I guess) since this part is not used during runtime. But if for each instruction in the compilation output without -g I need to do 4 more instructions in the compilation output with -g than I certainly prefer to stop using -g option even at the cost of not being able to process core dumps. How to know the size of the debug symbols section inside the program and in general does compilation with -g creates a program which runs slower than the same code compiled without -g?

  I'm building Ruby on Rails 2.3.5 app. By default, Ruby on Rails doesn't provide foreign key contraints so I have to do it manually. I was wondering if introducing foreign keys reduces query performance on the database side enough to make it not worth doing. Performance in this case is my first priority as I can check for data consistency with code. What is your recommendation in general? do you recommend using foreign keys? and how do you suggest I should measure this?

• What's the most scalable way to handle somewhat large file uploads in a Python webapp?

  We have a web application that takes file uploads for some parts. The file uploads aren't terribly big (mostly word documents and such), but they're much larger than your typical web request and they tend to tie up our threaded servers (zope 2 servers running behind an Apache proxy). I'm mostly in the brainstorming phase right now and trying to figure out a general technique to use. Some ideas I have are: Using a python asynchronous server like tornado or diesel or gunicorn. Writing something in twisted to handle it. Just using nginx to handle the actual file uploads. It's surprisingly difficult to find information on which approach I should be taking. I'm sure there are plenty of details that would be needed to make an actual decision, but I'm more worried about figuring out how to make this decision than anything else. Can anyone give me some advice about how to proceed with this?

  I'm getting this error when I call a web service: "The remote server returned an error: (407) Proxy Authentication Required". I get the general idea and I can get the code to work by adding myProxy.Credentials= NetworkCredential("user", "password", "domain"); or by using DefaultCredentials in code. My problem is that the call to the web service works in production without this. It seems like there is a non code solution involving Machine.config, but what is it? At the moment I can't get to the production boxes machine.config file to see what that looks like. I tried updating my machine.config as follows, but I still get the 407 error.

  Hi there, I have an old MySQL 4.1 database with a table that has a few millions rows and an old Java application that connects to this database and returns several thousand rows from this this table on a frequent basis via a simple SQL query (i.e. SELECT * FROM people WHERE first_name = 'Bob'. I think the Java application uses client side prepared statements but was looking at switching this to the server, and in the example mentioned the value for first_name will vary depending on what the user enters). I would like to speed up performance on the select query and was wondering if I should switch to Prepared Statements or Stored Procedures. Is there a general rule of thumb of what is quicker/less resource intensive (or if a combination of both is better)

• Java and Different Types of Stacks

  Currently the only stack I know anything about is Vector, I normally use this in place of an array but I understand that there is other types of stacks and they all suit different jobs. The project I am currently working on requires me to be inserting objects in a certain position inside a stack, not always the front of the stack and I am under the impression that a Vector may not be the best class for this job. Could somebody please give me a brief description of the other types of stacks available to me with the Java language and their advantages and disadvantages? Are these names homogeneous? E.g. Are they only used in the Java language or are they used as general terms in Computer Science? Thank you

  im having a weird problem with one variable: its not being recognized but its still printing. i would post my code, but it is massive. the basic idea is: # pseudocode def function(stuff): <do stuff> # These are the only 2 conditions if tag == 3: pka = <a string> if tag == 4: pka = <a string> print pka # (1) print pka # (2) <do stuff not modifying pka> print pka # (3) if pka == 'RSA': <do stuff> elif pka == 'DSA': <do stuff> my code will error at (2). however, it will print out (1), (2), and (3), all of which are the same. is there any general explanation of why this is happening? if my code is really needed, i will post it, but otherwise, i would rather not due to its size update: now the code will error at the if statement after (3), saying UnboundLocalError: local variable 'pka' referenced before assignment even though (1),(2),(3) just printed

• What's a good way to throw and handle events in PHP?

  Hi everyone, I am just trying to get a general idea about the event prcessing mechanism in PHP5 in as neat way as possible. First of all I understand that a PHP application is not exactly a persistent type, so the events may not make a lot of sense, but from the OO perspective it might be a very elegant way to "communicate" between the objects. So I am thinking that it would make sense to separate the events on the external events, such as $_POST & $_GET and the internal ones, i.e. function callbacks. As far as the external ones, is it a good idea to process the $_GETs and $_POSTs directly, or is it better to wrap them into an event of some sort? Also, in order to process the internal events, do you have to pass the reference to the event handler/dispatcher to each class so they know how to throw them? I was thinking to use the PEAR EventDispatcher to do the work, but I am open to other suggestions. Thank you!
