• Disable Eventlogging for some events using Healthmonitoring

  I'm using basic healthmonitoring in an ASP.Net website. I'd like to prevent one event with a specific eventcode to appear in the eventlog. All other errors should be logged accordingly. I'd like to accomplish this using plain web.config settings. However I am unable to get it to work. Besides that, using IIS 5 on Windows XP does not write any events to the event log. I can't seem to find out what's wrong, on Windows 2003 it correctly logs the errors. Does anybody have an idea?

• sharepoint online quick launch

  Hello, we are converting from sharepoint 2003 to sharepoint on line. I am having trouble reproducing a specific behavior in the online version. If a choose a list, I get a "select a view" navigation on the left hand side of the page showing the available views. When a new view is created, it automatically appears on this navigation list. In the online sharepoint, instead there is a view dropdown. I know I can manually setup links on the quick launch but I'm looking for an automatic way to do this. Can the online sharepoint be set up so that when views are added they automatically appear as left-hand links? Or can the "views" dropdown be moved to the left side which would be an acceptable work around? Please note I am unfamiliar with SP designer and I do work with .NET but I dont want to go that route just for this issue - thanks.

  Hi, I'm quite confused with what are the necessary tools for VSTO develpment. Specifically I want to manipulate Excel 2003/2007 documents programmatically. I did quite a lot of VBA before, if you want to relate any answer to that. Few questions I have about VSTO: Can I use Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition C#/C++ for this? Do I need to have .NET framework installed? Does the resulting VSTO program need to have a copy of Office installed in the same system to run? Direct links to the relevant tools/plugins/IDE will be appreciated. Note: I'm totally new to VSTO and .NET but an Office power user. Have experience with COM programming. Thanks.

  Hi, I am using a web application to read the excel file and uploading it in the database. I have deployed the application in the server.I am using windows service 2003 as the server.I am able to read the excel file only if i set the set the security settings to "network service" for the microsoft excel application in the control panel -- administrative tools -- componetn service -- computer -- My computer -- DCOM config -- microsoft excel application . Why is it so . There are also other applications running in the server. 1) Doing like this will create any issue ? 2) Why do we need to do it ? 3) Is there any alternative way to do it ? 4) What are we doing actually by providing network service access ? I heard from the community that before diving into driver development one must be familiar with windows internals that means one must read "Windows Internals by Mark Russinovich. I'm going to buy this book today. Which edtition should I buy? 4th edition covers Windows XP & Windows 2003 where as 5th edition covers Windows Vista & windows server 2008. I don't know in driver world how much difference this thing would make. How different are these two editions? should I first read 4th edition & then come to 5th or should I directly dive into 5th?

• Spawning Process Never Finishes on ASP.NET Page

  The code below spawns the process and sits forever, never finishing. It doesn't matter what process I run. If I use delegates it doesn't work either. It just hangs up in my dev and on the test enviornment. Also, if I use Shell with Wait it does the same thing. If I set wait to false in either approach it works just fine. It's ASP.NET 2.0 VB.NET DotNetNuke 4.0 on Windows Server 2003. I can't even phathom why this would hang up. UPDATE: It causes the CPU to throttle up but it's not running anything. It's like there's something weird going on in the threading. • How to obtain specific Excel object library without the corresponding Office version installed.

  I am developing a Excel automation app that read and write to Excel spreadsheet. I have Office 2007 installed on my machine. I therefore can reference the Excel 12.0 Object Library and the Excel 5.0 Object Library. I don't want to use Excel 5.0 because it's really quite old and poorly documented. Therefore I'm referencing Excel 12.0. However the target machine have Office 2003 installed and therefore only have Excel 11.0. So when I compile my program it crashes on the target machine since the referenced library are different. I was wondering is there a way I could obtain the Excel 11.0 without installing Office 03? I tried to find answers from msdn and microsoft support page but couldn't find anything? This is quite strange since it could also happen in the future where developers has newer editions of Office than clients?

• Can't register 32bit dll under 64bit windows

  Hi guys. I try to create a COM object from my JS script like this: function main() { var MyApplication = new ActiveXObject("Base.Application"); } main(); I am getting error: "Automation server can't create object". This error occurs on Windows 2003 64 bit. The dll is 32 bit and it works fine on 32 bit systems. I've tried both versions of Regsvr32.exe on the 64 bit system and both versions told me that dll registered succesfully. Unfortunatelly the error message does not tell me why it can not create object. The reason is unknown, it might be that it can't create object because it is still not registered or it might be something totally different... I've also add full permisions to this dll. I don't know what else I can do, do you have any ideas?

  We have setup a .net application developed with .net framework 4.0 using MVC framework and WCF service on a Windows 2003, 32-bit server containing IIS 6 successfully. However, when the same application is set up on a Win 2008 R2, 64-bit server, we get the following error when the application is accessing the WCF service: No component for supporting the service was found Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: Castle.MicroKernel.ComponentNotFoundException: No component for supporting the service was found We have set the flag for Enable 32-bit apps in "Application Pool" to true on the 64-bit server.

• SSRS default renderer strips html tags

  For TFS task work item, I copy a table from ms word 2003/2007 document and paste it into the description field (supports rich text). When the task item is saved, correct formatting is saved in TFS database table. But when the same data is displayed in a SSRs report (through report manager) the formatting is lost. Probably the ssrs rendering engine is stripping off the tags. I have the "HTML-Interpret HTML tags as styles" enabled for the report field. It will be of great help if someone can provide more information on this issue and how it can be handled. Thanks.

• Subdomain mapping to another external subdomain

  I'm trying to map help.domain1.com to help.domain2.com. I've seen this on UserVoice. They let you map something.yourdomain.com to something.uservoice.com. On domain1.com I've set up a CNAME to help.domain2.com. It works fine but when I open help.domain1.com I get the content of domain2.com instead of help.domain2.com. After some experimenting I've realized that this is an expected behavior. So my question is what do I have to do on domain2.com (or maybe on domain1.com?) to have it show content of subdomain "help.domain2.com" when I navigate help.domain1.com? (I'm using Plesk and the OS is Windows Server 2003)

• Exchange 2010 and ESE Backup API

  Exchange 2010 does not support the ESE API for doing backups like it did in 2003 and 2007 according to MSDN. I Quote: "Exchange 2010 no longer supports the ESE streaming APIs for backup and restore of program files or data. Instead, Exchange 2010 supports only VSS-based backups." So my question is, if this is the case, why is the DLL (ESEBCLI2.DLL) still shipped with exchange 2010? I found it under C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Bin. Am I missing something here?

• Is it OK to allow users to query an OLTP SQL Server database with excel?

  I have a SQL Server 2005 database used by several applications. Some users wish to query the database directly from excel. I can understand this, because it is a useful tool for adhoc queries and then getting the data in a format that's easily transmitted and manipulated by other users. My question is: Does Excel (say 2003/2007) do its querying in a way that won't cause concurency issues? Or is it done in such a way that a seperate datawarehouse database needs to be made to handle this scenario? Thanks for any advise.

• Linux based MS Office thumbnail generation

  I've been taken on board to work on a PHP based web application. One part of the application generates thumbnail images for MS Office documents on demand, and it uses MS Office + the VeryPDF docprint utility to do this. Because of this one requirement, the system is running on Windows Server 2003 + IIS. I would prefer to have the system running on a Linux server, rather than MS, as I have far more experience in administering Linux systems than Windows and we have no other in-house technical staff. Does anyone know a way to handle the document conversion using native Linux software? I would love something PHP native, but am willing to look outside that if necessary.   My Application (Vb.net, Access 2003/2007) is to scan Access Database files for activex controls and to generate report accordingly. Problem: Getting an error like: "Insufficient memory to continue the execution of the program." The above error occurs while scanning for older version of Access files like prior to office 2000. • How can I use my multiple cored dedicated server to run my java application?

  I have a game built in a java environment and I use JVM. I have 4 cores @ 2.4Ghz and my server is only using one of those cores... I've tried and searched and I still have no guides to setup multiple cores to run the game like, say 1 core for running the character saving + loading, and 1 core for the server itself, and 1 core for a helper to help other cores that need more power. I don't even know if this is possible but this is all in java the operating machine is windows server 2003 and I've tried so hard I just don't know what to do. May someone please help me! • Accessing localhost via IIS 6.1 on Windows 7 very slow

  (I've checked here already for similiar questions, and haven't found one that's exactly the same - hence I'm posting a new question) I'm currently running an ASP.NET application on IIS 7.0 on Windows 7. When I access this application on Internet Explorer (either 6, 7 or 8) it is incredible slow and often fails to load at all. There are messages at the bottom saying: Waiting for http://localhost/....... or sometimes waiting for about:blank (I've read that this can be a virus, but I've run all the usual checks and it's not). constantly, but it returns with the usual: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" I've also tried this by using 127.0.0.1 and the machine name, with the same results. I've tried the same application on the latest Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera and they all work fine. I've also installed the same application on a Windows Server 2003 machine, and it all works fine via Internet Explorer. Soes anyone have any ideas why this doesn't work with Internet Explorer and yet does with other browsers?

  Dear Network Gurus Before saying anything let me tell you that i am not well educated int networks related subjects. I am a software developer and I have written and exposed a Service on HTTPS at port 8000. Now i want to know that if there is any kind of software that can help me to trace if there is any kind of port blocking from one site to my service location with information of blocker host. I have tried couple of Tracerout software like wintrace but all these uses ICMP protocols and there is no option to provide port number in them. And moreover i like to ad an exception in Firewall for incoming ICMP protocal in windows server 2003 windows firewall but i can't see anyoption to ad protocol in exception instead there are only options to ad a program or ad a port of udp or tcp. Please help Regards
