• Converting Single dimensional vector or array to two dimension in Matlab

  Well I do not know if I used the exact term. I tried to find an answer on the net. Here is what i need: I have a vector a = 1 4 7 2 5 8 3 6 9 If I do a(4) the value is 4. So it is reading first column top to buttom then continuing to next .... I don't know why. However, What I need is to call it using two indices. As row and column: a(3,2)= 4 or even better if i can call it in the following way: a{3}(2)=4 What is this process really called (want to learn) and how to perform in matlab. I thought of a loop. • How can I include DBNull as a value in my strongly typed dataset?

  I've created a strongly typed dataset (MyDataSet) in my .NET app. For the sake of simplicity, we'll say it has one DataTable (MyDataTable), with one column (MyCol). MyCol has its DataType property set to "System.Int32", and its AllowDBNull property set to "true". I'd like to manually create a new row, and add it to this dataset. I create the row without a problem, with something like: MyDataSet.MyDataTableRow myRow = MySimpleDataSet.MyDataTable.NewItemRow(); Fine. However, when I try to set the value to DBNull: myRow.MyCol = DBNull.Value; I'm told that I can't do it...that it can't cast that to an int. This makes sense, in a way, since I've defined it to be an int...but then how can I get DBNull in there? Am I not supposed to be able to have DBNull in there? Isn't that what the AllowDBNull property is for? I'm obviously missing something fundemental. Can someone help explain what it is? EDIT: I also tried entering "int?" as the DataType, but Visual Studio throws an error when I enter it, saying that "Column requires a valid DataType."

• Enlist a table's columns in other component

  The main goal is to have a dropdown menu where each of its menuItems represents one column of a <rich:extendedDataTable />. Above the table I have this: <rich:dropDownMenu value="Column visibility" submitMode="none" direction="bottom-right"> <c:forEach var="columnConfigVO" items="#{gridConfigurationManager.getColumnConfigs(listId)}"> <rich:menuItem value="columnConfigVO.columnId" /> </c:forEach> </rich:dropDownMenu> And then bellow that I have the usual <rich:extendedDataTable /> with its columns. I register the table columns to gridConfigurationManager component by overriding beforeRenderResponse() in ExtendedDataTable class. The problem is that <c:forEach /> is executing before renderResponse phase, thus gridConfigurationManager.getColumnConfigs(listId) return empty. The question is, how do I register the columns in gridConfigurationManager component before <c:forEach /> start executing? Or, anyone know a different approach to accomplish this? Thanks.

• Modify columns in a data frame in R more cleanly - maybe using with() or apply()?

  I understand the answer in R to repetitive things is usually "apply()" rather than loop. Is there a better R-design pattern for a nasty bit of code I create frequently? So, pulling tabular data from HTML, I usually need to change the data type, and end up running something like this, to convert the first column to date format (from decimal), and columns 2-4 from character strings with comma thousand separators like "2,400,000" to numeric "2400000." X[,1] <- decYY2YY(as.numeric(X[,1])) X[,2] <- as.numeric(gsub(",", "", X[,2])) X[,3] <- as.numeric(gsub(",", "", X[,3])) X[,4] <- as.numeric(gsub(",", "", X[,4])) I don't like that I have X[,number] repeated on both the left and ride sides here, or that I have basically the same statement repeated for 2-4. Is there a very R-style way of making X[,2] less repetitive but still loop-free? Something that sort of says "apply this to columns 2,3,4---a function that reassigns the current column to a modified version in place?" I don't want to create a whole, repeatable cleaning function, really, just a quick anonymous function that does this with less repetition.

• TableLayout formatting loss after device rotation

  I'm seeing a strange issue with a TableLayout after the device is rotated from either orientation. If you load the view in either portrait or landscape mode, the table loads fine. But once you rotate the device, the columns collapse to just fit their width. I would expect that after rotation, the columns would still stretch to fit the width of the screen. Any ideas on what can be done to resolve this? Screenies and layout code below. • Am I using the getch() function from the ncurses library incorrectly?

  I am writing a Pacman game in c++ using the ncurses library, but I am not able to move the Pacman properly. I have used getch() to move it it up, down, left and right, but it only moves right and does not move anywhere else when I press any other key. This is a code snippet for moving up. • How much does an InnoDB table benefit from having fixed-length rows?

  I know that dependent on the database storage engine in use, a performance benefit can be found if all of the rows in the table can be guaranteed to be the same length (by avoiding nullable columns and not using any VARCHAR, TEXT or BLOB columns). I'm not clear on how far this applies to InnoDB, with its funny table arrangements.   I want to print the results of an SQL query in XUL with word-wrapping using the description tag. I have the following code: <grid> <columns> <column flex="2" /> <column flex="1" /> </columns> <rows datasources="chrome://glossary/content/db/development.sqlite3" ref="?" querytype="storage" > <template> <query>select distinct * from Terms</query> <action> <row uri="?"> <description value="?name" /> <description value="?desc" /> </row> </action> </template> </rows> This works for printing the data, but since I'm using the value attribute of description, there's no word-wrapping. I don't understand entirely what I'm doing with the value attribute, but I don't seem to be able to get the values of my SQL query in any other way. So, how could I get those values without the value tag? Thanks.

• My UL child label elements disappear in IE on accordion menu opening

  I've got an app that's working pretty flawlessly in Chrome and FF, however, when I view it in IE, all is well until I click on a header element to activate it (jQuery accordion). What happens then is that I see a brief flash where the content is there, then suddenly the entire left column disappears. This column is generated by a floated label element with a class of ".left" as seen below... <ul class="menu collapsible"> <li class='expand sectionTitle'><a href='#'>General Settings</a> <ul class='acitem'> <li class="section"> <label class="left">This item if floated left with a defined width of 190px via css. This is the item that's disappearing after a brief display</label> <input class="input" value="input element here" /> <label class="description">This element has a margin-left:212px; set via css in order to be positioned to the right of the label element as if in an adjacent table cell. When I add a max-width property to this element, it disappears in IE too!</label> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> As you can see from the comments in the code above (for the two label elements) the description label disappears once I set a max-width on it. It shows up fine otherwise.

  I have this object : public class Ledger { public virtual Person Client { get; set; } // .... } The Ledger table joins to the Person table via one of three possible tables : Bill, Receipt or Payment. So we have the following tables : Ledger LedgerID PK Bill BillID PK, LedgerID, ClientID Receipt ReceiptID PK, LedgerID, ClientID Payment PaymentID PK, LedgerID, ClientID If it was just the one table, I could map this as : Join ( "Bill", x => { x.ManyToOne ( ledger => ledger.Client, mapping => mapping.Column ( "ClientID" ) ); x.Key ( l => l.Column ( "LedgerID" ) ); } ); This won't work for three tables. For a start the Join performs an inner join. Since there will only ever be one of Bill, Receipt or Payment - an inner join on these tables will always return zero rows. Then it would need to know to do a Coalesce on the ClientID of each of these tables to know the ClientID to grab the data from. Is there a way to do this? Or am I asking too much of the mappings here?

• Windows 7 Mobile ListBox uncustomizable?

  I've just recently started development using Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone and I put in a ListBox. I can't seem to manipulate the formatting. No matter what I do, the background is black/gray, the selected items have a blue border, and there is padding between the items in the listbox (i'm using images). Is there a way to use a regular ASP.NET page instead of XAML for the view? • Dynamically disable custom (VBA) Excel context menu buttons?

  The Scenario Hi guys, I am about to add a few custom controls to the cell context menu in my Excel workbook using the instructions found on this MSDN page. The only problem I am having is that I need the items to only be enabled for a specific column/range of cells. I've looked around, and I've been unable to find any steps for this--there are some for VSTO development (written in C#), but that is not what I need. I plan to write this using the VBA IDE built into Office, and perhaps a bit of XML using the Custom UI Editor. The Question So basically, I'm looking for a way to run a function at the time the context menu is called (i.e., upon right-click) that validates the selection to make sure it is in the appropriate column. If it isn't, I would like my custom buttons to be greyed out. P.S. Please don't think I am asking you to write my code. Creating these buttons should be very simple, as I have created many before (albeit they were all Ribbon items), and I hope it is okay to ask for some quick assistance on this very specific issue. • Django Datetime field question

  Hello I have been having a problem with django while trying to work with datetime. In my webapp I have a table like so when I run server. ID Owing 1 -100 (All the same value) 2 -100 3 -100 . . . . . . It has in one column Invoice id and the other owing. One-one relationship as well. sow for example owing value for 1 is 100. Unfortunately, this is where it all goes wrong because throughout column (Owing), it is giving me the owing value for ID=1. I want each ID to give me their owing value. Here is my view. • Grails one-to-many mapping with joinTable

  I have two domain-classes. One is a "Partner" the other is a "Customer". A customer can be a part of a Partner and a Partner can have 1 or more Customers: class Customer { Integer id String name static hasOne = [partner:Partner] static mapping = { partner joinTable:[name:'PartnerMap',column:'partner_id',key:'customer_id'] } } class Partner { Integer id static hasMany = [customers:Customer] static mapping = { customers joinTable:[name:'PartnerMap',column:'customer_id',key:'partner_id'] } } However, whenever I try to see if a customer is a part of a partner, like this: def customers = Customer.list() customers.each { if (it.partner) { println "Partner!" } } I get the following error: org.springframework.dao.InvalidDataAccessResourceUsageException: could not execute query; SQL [select this_.customer_id as customer1_162_0_, this_.company as company162_0_, this_.display_name as display3_162_0_, this_.parent_customer_id as parent4_162_0_, this_.partner_id as partner5_162_0_, this_.server_id as server6_162_0_, this_.status as status162_0_, this_.vertical_market as vertical8_162_0_ from Customer this_]; nested exception is org.hibernate.exception.SQLGrammarException: could not execute query It looks as if Grails is thinking partner_id is a part of the Customer query, and it's not... It is in the PartnerMap table, which is supposed to find the customer_id, then get the Partner from the corresponding partner_id. Anyone have any clue what I'm doing wrong? Edit: I forgot to mention I'm doing this with legacy database tables. So I have a Partner, Customer and PartnerMap table. PartnerMap has simply a customer_id and partner_id field.

I want to insert each StringViewModel into some sort of content control in the ItemsControl. Originally I just had each StringViewModel to make its own Grid, but that left things unaligned. I'd like to insert these items into some sort of content control in ItemsControl, it doesn't necessarily have to be a grid, but it should be within the ItemsControl. How can I do this? I'm also following MVVM, using MVVM Light.

• NHibernate class referencing discriminator based subclass

  I have a generic class Lookup which contains code/value properties. The table PK is category/code. There are subclasses for each category of lookup, and I've set the discriminator column in the base class and its value in the subclass. See example below (only key pieces shown): public class Lookup { public string Category; public string Code; public string Description; } public class LookupClassMap { CompositeId() .KeyProperty(x = x.Category, "CATEGORY_ID") .KeyProperty(x = x.Code, "CODE_ID"); DiscriminateSubclassesBasedOnColumn("CATEGORY_ID"); } public class MaritalStatus: Lookup {} public class MartialStatusClassMap: SubclassMap { DiscriminatorValue(13); } This all works. Here's the problem. When a class has a property of type MaritalStatus, I create a reference based on the contained code ID column ("MARITAL_STATUS_CODE_ID"). NHibernate doesn't like it because I didn't map both primary key columns (Category ID & Code ID). But with the Reference being of type MaritalStatus, NHibernate should already know what the value of the category ID is going to be, because of the discriminator value. What am I missing?

  I'd like to use SimpleTest to set up some functionality tests for our project - in particular, we have a very busy page which has some random components and some static components, and I'd like to be able to write a simple test which only confirms the static bits (preferably only the one or two most important ones). In other words, I want to be able to leave out any tags on the page I don't care about, and write something like: $result = "<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"><head><title>...</title><meta .../></head><body><script type="text/javascript">...</script><div class="center-splash"><span>Welcome JohnDoe</span><p>Your progress:</p>...</div><div class="left-column">...</div><div class="right-column">...</div>...</body></html>"; $expects = array('html'=>true,'body'=>true,'div'=>array('class'=>'center_splash'),'span'=>true,'Welcome JohnDoe','/span','/div','/body','/html'); $this->assertTagsButIgnoreExtras($result, $expects); When I try this with assertTags it fails. Is there a version of assertTags which allows this - something either officially part of the SimpleTest or CakePHP project or unofficially put out under the MIT license or similar?
