  • Reverse engineering windows mobile live search CellID location awareness protocol (yikes)...

    - by Jean-Charles
    I wasn't sure of how to form the question so I apologize if the title is misleading. Additionally, you may want to get some coffee and take a seat for this one ... It's long. Basically, I'm trying to reverse engineer the protocol used by the Windows Mobile Live Search application to get location based on cellID. Before I go on, I am aware of other open source services (such as OpenCellID) but this is more for the sake of education and a bit for redundancy. According to the packets I captured, a POST request is made to ... mobile.search.live.com/positionlookupservice_1/service.aspx ... with a few specific headers (agent, content-length, etc) and no body. Once this goes through, the server sends back a 100-Continue response. At this point, the application submits this data (I chopped off the packet header): 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 05 55 54 ........UT 46 2d 38 05 65 6e 2d 55 53 05 65 6e 2d 55 53 01 F-8.en-US.en-US. 06 44 65 76 69 63 65 05 64 75 6d 6d 79 01 06 02 .Device.dummy... 50 4c 08 0e 52 65 76 65 72 73 65 47 65 6f 63 6f PL..ReverseGeoco 64 65 01 07 0b 47 50 53 43 68 69 70 49 6e 66 6f de...GPSChipInfo 01 20 06 09 43 65 6c 6c 54 6f 77 65 72 06 03 43 . ..CellTower..C 47 49 08 03 4d 43 43 b6 02 07 03 4d 4e 43 03 34 GI..MCC....MNC.4 31 30 08 03 4c 41 43 cf 36 08 02 43 49 fd 01 00 10..LAC.6..CI... 00 00 00 ... And receives this in response (packet and HTTP response headers chopped): 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 01 06 02 50 4c ...........PL 06 08 4c 6f 63 61 6c 69 74 79 06 08 4c 6f 63 61 ..Locality..Loca 74 69 6f 6e 07 03 4c 61 74 09 34 32 2e 33 37 35 tion..Lat.42.375 36 32 31 07 04 4c 6f 6e 67 0a 2d 37 31 2e 31 35 621..Long.-71.15 38 39 33 38 00 07 06 52 61 64 69 75 73 09 32 30 8938...Radius.20 30 30 2e 30 30 30 30 00 42 07 0c 4c 6f 63 61 6c 00.0000.B..Local 69 74 79 4e 61 6d 65 09 57 61 74 65 72 74 6f 77 ityName.Watertow 6e 07 16 41 64 6d 69 6e 69 73 74 72 61 74 69 76 n..Administrativ 65 41 72 65 61 4e 61 6d 65 0d 4d 61 73 73 61 63 eAreaName.Massac 68 75 73 65 74 74 73 07 10 50 6f 73 74 61 6c 43 husetts..PostalC 6f 64 65 4e 75 6d 62 65 72 05 30 32 34 37 32 07 odeNumber.02472. 0b 43 6f 75 6e 74 72 79 4e 61 6d 65 0d 55 6e 69 .CountryName.Uni 74 65 64 20 53 74 61 74 65 73 00 00 00 ted States... Now, here is what I've determined so far: All strings are prepended with one byte that is the decimal equivalent of their length. There seem to be three different casts that are used throughout the request and response. They show up as one byte before the length byte. I've concluded that the three types map out as follows: 0x06 - parent element (subsequent values are children, closed with 0x00) 0x07 - string 0x08 - int? Based on these determinations, here is what the request and response look like in a more readable manner (values surrounded by brackets denote length and values surrounded by parenthesis denote a cast): \0x00\0x00\0x00\0x01\0x00\0x00\0x00 [5]UTF-8 [5]en-US [5]en-US \0x01 [6]Device [5]dummy \0x01 (6)[2]PL (8)[14]ReverseGeocode\0x01 (7)[11]GPSChipInfo[1]\0x20 (6)[9]CellTower (6)[3]CGI (8)[3]MCC\0xB6\0x02 //310 (7)[3]MNC[3]410 //410 (8)[3]LAC\0xCF\0x36 //6991 (8)[2]CI\0xFD\0x01 //259 \0x00 \0x00 \0x00 \0x00 and.. \0x00\0x00\0x00\0x01\0x00\0x00\0x00 \0x00\0x01 (6)[2]PL (6)[8]Locality (6)[8]Location (7)[3]Lat[9]42.375621 (7)[4]Long[10]-71.158938 \0x00 (7)[6]Radius[9]2000.0000 \0x00 \0x42 //"B" ... At first I thought they were some sort of base level element terminators but I'm not certain. I'm not sure the 7-byte header is, in fact, a seven byte header. I wonder if it's maybe 4 bytes and that the three remaining 0x00s are of some other significance. The trailing 0x00s. Why is it that there is only one on the request but two on the response? The type 8 cast mentioned above ... I can't seem to figure out how those values are being encoded. I added comments to those lines with what the values should correspond to. Any advice on these four points will be greatly appreciated. And yes, these packets were captured in Watertown, MA. :)

  • asp:menu in safari and chrome

    - by Patto
I have seen some posts of the asp:menu and the browsers Chrome and Safari here, but nevertheless, I think the problem that I have is different than other problems. I am using the following code in order to display the menu: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (Request.UserAgent.IndexOf("AppleWebKit") > 0) { Request.Browser.Adapters.Clear(); } ... } However, the problem is still there if I start the browsers for the very first time, the menu is displayed vertically instead of horizontally. After a page refresh, the menu works fine... How is that possible? Or is the problem that simple, and I need to place the code in somewhere earlier (eg Page_PreInt). Thanks in advance, Patto

  • Real-time data on webpage with jQuery

    - by Steven Hepting
I would like a webpage that constantly updates a graph with new data as it arrives. Regularly, all the data you have is passed to the page at the beginning of the request. However, I need the page to be able to update itself with fresh information every few seconds to redraw the graph. Background The webpage will be similar to this http://www.panic.com/blog/2010/03/the-panic-status-board/. The data coming in will temperature values to be graphed measured by an Arduino and saved to the Django database (this part is already complete). Update It sounds as though the solution is to use the jQuery.ajax() function ( http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.ajax/) with a function as the .complete callback that will schedule another request several seconds later to a URL that will return the data in JSON format. How can that method be scheduled? With the .delay() function?

  • where should we place HIDDEN variable in JSP

    - by micheal
I need to use Hidden variables in my JSP for session tracking. this is the code: <input type="hidden" name="REQ_TOKEN" value="<%=session.getAttribute("SESN_TOKEN").toString()%>" /> i am using this to compare the request token with session token, so only when both are equal i will evaluate that request otherwise i will throw an error. Now the problem is, when i place this code inside <form></form> tags, it is working fine. Unfortunately there are some JSPs in my application where we dont have tag(I know that sounds weird!). where can i place my code so that it will work? Cant i use Hidden variables without FORM tag???

  • Webdav -- GET on a directory

    - by Joe Cannatti
I am beginning to build a tool that uses WebDAV. I am having trouble wrapping my head around something here. I think I am missing something conceptual. I can use PUT's to add files to the server. I can use GET's to read files from the server, but when I try to use GET on a directory I get a 403:Forbidden. I am using basic authentication. My code in MacRuby is as follows Net::HTTP.start('localhost') do |http| res = Net::HTTP::Get.new('http://localhost/webdav/') res.basic_auth 'jcannatti', 'webdav' http.request res end this returns <Net::HTTPForbidden 403 Forbidden readbody=true> however this Net::HTTP.start('localhost') do |http| res = Net::HTTP::Put.new('http://localhost/webdav/gorilla.txt') res.body = "testetsetest" res.basic_auth 'jcannatti', 'webdav' http.request res end returns <Net::HTTPCreated 201 Created readbody=true> What should happen when calling a GET on a WebDAV directory when everything is working correctly? thanks

  • Java Polymorphism - Selecting correct method based on subtype

    - by Marty Pitt
Hi Given the following Class and Service layer signatures: public class PersonActionRequest { PersonVO person // ... other fields } public class MyServiceLayerClass { public void requestAction(PersonActionRequest request) { PersonVO abstractPerson = request.getPerson(); // call appropriate executeAction method based on subclass of PersonVO } private void executeAction(PersonVO person) {} private void executeAction(EmployeeVO employee) {} private void executeAction(ManagerVO manager) {} private void executeAction(UnicornWranglerVO unicornWrangler) {} } As discussed here, java will select the best method based on type info at compile time. (Ie., it will always select executeAction(PersonVO person) ). What's the most appropriate way to select the correct method? The internet tells me that using instanceof gets me slapped. However, I don't see the appropraite way to select the method without explictly casting abstractPerson to one of the other concrete types. Thanks Marty

  • How to rewrite the URL

    - by Kalpana
I have a small application built using Seam 2.2, Richfaces 3.3, JBoss 5.1. Most of the page navigation adds the request parameters to the target URL. I would like to hide parameters to be hidden to the customer who is using the application (e.g. I would expect the URL to be something like "http://localhost:8080/books/Book.seam". The parameters (userId, orderId and cmId) are currently mapped to the backend bean via Book.page.xml. How do I prevent the request parameters from showing up in the browser URL, as it also allows the customer to manipulate the URL. We did look at seam URL re-writing feature, it talked about manipulating say the primary key id in a REST format, not sure how to accomplish something more complex like the above use case in a elegant fashion.

  • Open Source Contribution for a newbie programmer.

    - by sasayins
Hi, I am teaching programming to my nephews and I want them to improve their skills by contributing to open source projects. Now my question is, do you know any open source project that suit for a newbie programmer. What I mean is, the project does not have a large codebase, the project is very interesting and the project is written in C because I chose C language as their starting language but you can suggest other project made in other language. My goal here are to improve their logic by reading other source codes, familiarize to the available development tools like bug tracker, version control system, etc. and open their interest in open source community. Thanks. =)

  • Updating a TableView with a WebService and Saving to CoreData

    - by jcady
I am working on a project where I have a table view that is currently updated via a web request that returns XML. I implemented -(int)numberOfRowsInTableView:(NSTableView*)tv and -(id)tableView:(NSTableView *)tv objectValueForTableColumn:(NSTableColumn*)tableColumn row:(int)row in my XML parsing class, and have the table updated with the data that is pulled down from the server. I want to save the data that is pulled down using Core Data, so that the table can be saved/loaded. Then later on application start when the web request is made, it will only add data that is not already present. (The XML is sorted by release date, so later I will check to see which release dates are not loaded up from the Core Data store, and only load newer entries.) How would I go about implementing this? I am a very new Cocoa developer, but have gone through the entire Hillegass book. Thanks so much.

  • django admin how to limit selectbox values

    - by SledgehammerPL
model: class Store(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length = 20) class Admin: pass def __unicode__(self): return self.name class Stock(Store): products = models.ManyToManyField(Product) class Admin: pass def __unicode__(self): return self.name class Product(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length = 128, unique = True) parent = models.ForeignKey('self', null = True, blank = True, related_name='children') (...) def __unicode__(self): return self.name mptt.register(Product, order_insertion_by = ['name']) admin.py: from bar.drinkstore.models import Store, Stock from django.contrib import admin admin.site.register(Store) admin.site.register(Stock) Now when I look at admin site I can select any product from the list. But I'd like to have a limited choice - only leaves. In mptt class there's function: is_leaf_node() -- returns True if the model instance is a leaf node (it has no children), False otherwise. But I have no idea how to connect it I'm trying to make a subclass: in admin.py: from bar.drinkstore.models import Store, Stock from django.contrib import admin admin.site.register(Store) class StockAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): def queryset(self, request): qs = super(StockAdmin, self).queryset(request).filter(ihavenoideawhatfilter) admin.site.register(Stock, StockAdmin) but I'm not sure if it's right way, and what filter set.

  • java keytool question

    - by user384706
Hi, I created a java keystore programmatically of type jks (i.e. default type). It is initially empty so I created a DSA certificate. keytool -genkey -alias myCert -v -keystore trivial.keystore How can I see the public and private keys? I.e. is there a command that prints the private key of my certificate? I could only find keytool -certreq which in my understanding prints the certificate as a whole: -----BEGIN NEW CERTIFICATE REQUEST----- MIICaTCCAicCAQAwZTELMAkGA1UEBhMCR1IxDzANBgNVBAgTBkdyZWVjZTEPMA0GA1UEBxMGQXRo BQADLwAwLAIUQZbY/3Qq0G26fsBbWiHMbuVd3VICFE+gwtUauYiRbHh0caAtRj3qRTwl -----END NEW CERTIFICATE REQUEST----- I assume this is the whole certificate. How can I see private (or public key) via keytool? Thank you

  • How do you handle browser cache with login/logout?

    - by Julien
To improve performances, I'd like to add a fairly long Cache-Control (up to 30 minutes) to each page since they do not change often. However, each page also displays the name of the user logged in (like this website). The problem is when the user logs in or logs out: the user name must change. How can I change the user name after each login/logout action while keeping a long Cache-Control? Here are the solutions I can think of: Ajax request (not cached) to retrieve and display the user name. If I have 2 requests (/user?registered and /user?new), they could be cached as well. But I am afraid this extra request would nullify my caching performance-wise Add a unique URL variable (?time=) to make the URL different, and cancel the cache. However, I would have to add this variable to all links on my webpage, not very convenient code-wise This problems becomes greater if I actually have more content that is not the same for registered users and new users.

  • Cross Domain Post - Losing POST Data

    - by Tomas Beblar
I have 2 servers, both running R2 / IIS7 / ASP Classic sites (can't get around any of that) Server A is making the follow calls: Dim objXMLHTTP, xml Set xml = Server.CreateObject("Msxml2.ServerXmlHTTP.6.0") xml.Open "POST", templateName, false xml.setRequestHeader "Content-Type", "application/xml" xml.Send variables Where the templateName is the URL of Server B (It's an email template) ... and variables are a name value pair string like a query string password=myPassword&customerEmail=Dear+Bob,.... Server B receives the POST but all the POST data (password=myPassword&customerEmail=Dear+Bob,....) is missing from the POST password = Request.Form("templatePassword") customerEmail = Request.Form("RackAttackCustomerEmail") The above values are all empty. Here's the kicker. This all worked on our old servers (Windows Server 2003, IIS 6) But when we migrated over, this stopped working correctly. My question is: What would cause the POST data to be dropped in IIS 7 when it all worked in IIS 6? I've done about 3 days of research into this trying many different things and nothing has worked. The POST data is just gone.

  • HttpSession problem in Google App Engine/J

    - by Tahir Akram
I am writting a Twitter web app by using Twitter4J on GAE/J. I am saving Twitter and Request Token objects in session so that to be used after call back. I have two servlets. IndexServlet sets session and HomeServlet get from session (hits on call back by twitter oAuth). If I comment out session handling lines in both servlets then call backs works fine. Please suggest any workaround. I am sharing my code here. • Send Email on GMail SMTP under medium trust

    - by Midhat
Hi I need to send an email from my app, which will be running under medium trust. My current email sending code that works fine under full trust throws SecurityException under medium trust [SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Net.Mail.SmtpPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.] Examining my machine.config and allied files reveal that my SMTP access is restricted to Connect. <SecurityClass Name="SmtpPermission" Description="System.Net.Mail.SmtpPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"/> and <IPermission class="SmtpPermission" version="1" Access="Connect"/> According to MSDN, Connect allows request on port 25 only. But Gmail servers work on port 587. Any workarounds? suggestions?

  • Why would it be a bad idea to have database connection open between client requests?

    - by AspOnMyNet
    1) Book I’m reading argues that connections shouldn’t be opened between client requests, since they are a finite resource. I realize that max pool size can quickly be reached and thus any further attempts to open a connection will be queued until connection becomes available and for that reason it would be imperative that we release connection as soon as possible. But assuming all request will open connection to the same DB, then I’m not sure how having a connection open between two client requests would be any less efficient than having each request first acquiring a connection from connection pool and later returning that object to connection pool? 2) Book also recommends that when database code is encapsulated in a dedicated data access class, then method M opening a database connection should also close that connection. a) I assume one reason why M should also close it, is because if method M opening the connection doesn’t also close it, but instead this connection object is used inside several methods, then it’s more likely that a programmer will forget to close it. b) Are there any other reasons why a method opening the connection should also close it? thanx

  • Initializing "new users" in Rails

    - by mathee
I'm creating a Ruby on Rails application, and I'm trying to create/login/logout users. This is the schema for Users: create_table "users", :force => true do |t| t.string "first_name" t.string "last_name" t.text "reputation" t.integer "questions_asked" t.integer "answers_given" t.string "request" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" t.string "email_hash" t.string "username" t.string "hashed_password" t.string "salt" end The user's personal information (username, first/last names, email) is populated through a POST. Other things such as questions_asked, reputation, etc. are set by the application, so should be initialized when we create new users. Right now, I'm just setting each of those manually in the create method for UsersController: def create @user = User.new(params[:user]) @user.reputation = 0 @user.questions_asked = 0 @user.answers_given = 0 @user.request = nil ... end Is there a more elegant/efficient way of doing this?

  • Mapping to a JSON method with url-pattern

    - by Brian
I'm creating a Spring MVC application that will have a controller with 'RequestMapping'-annotated methods, including a JSON method. It currently has static content that resides in webapps/static, and the app itself resides in webapps/myapp. I assume that Catalina's default servlet is handling the static content, and my *.htm url-pattern in web.xml is returning the request for my JSP page, but I haven't been able to get the JSON method to be called. How do I write the url-pattern in the servlet mapping to do so? Using /* has not worked; it prevents the app from being accessed at all. Is there anything else to be aware of? EDIT: The url-pattern '/' appears to allow the JSON request through, because a 406 error is returned. What then would need to be modified to allow JSON to be returned?

  • Vbscript / webcam. using flash API - Save streaming file as image

    - by remi
Hi. Based on a php app we've tried to developp our own webapp in vbscript. All is working well. The camera starts, etc.. The problem we're left with is the following: the flash API is streaming the content of the video to a webpage, this page saves the photo as a jpg. The PHP code we're trying to emulate is as follow $str = file_get_contents("php://input"); file_put_contents("/tmp/upload.jpg", pack("H*", $str)); After intensive googling the best we can come up with is Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Dim sImagePath As String = Server.MapPath("/registration/") & "test.jpg" Dim data As Byte() = Request.BinaryRead(Request.TotalBytes) Dim Ret As Array Dim imgbmp As New System.Drawing.Bitmap("test.jpg") Dim ms As MemoryStream = New MemoryStream(data) imgbmp.Save(ms, System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Jpeg) Ret = ms.ToArray() Dim fs As New FileStream(sImagePath, FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write) fs.Write(Ret, 0, Ret.Length) fs.Flush() fs.Close() End Sub which is not working, does anybody have any suggestion?

  • Double encoded url being fully decoded in ASP.NET

    - by Brad R
I have just come across something that is quite strange and yet I haven't found any mention on the interwebs of others having the same problem. If I hit my ASP.NET application with a double encoded url then the Request["myQueryParam"] will do a double decode of the query for me. This is not desirable as I have double encoded my query string for a good reason. Can others confirm I'm not doing something obviously wrong, and why this would happen. A solution to prevent it, without doing some nasty query string parsing, would be great too! As an example if you hit the url: http://localhost/MyApp?originalUrl=http%3a%2f%2flocalhost%2fAction%2fRedirect%3fUrl%3d%252fsomeUrl%253futm_medium%253dabc%2526utm_source%253dabc%2526utm_campaign%253dabc (For reference %25 is the % symbol) Then look at the Request["originalUrl"] (page or controller) the string returned is: http://localhost/Action/Redirect?Url=/someUrl?utm_medium=abc&utm_source=abc&utm_campaign=abc I would expect: http://localhost/Action/Redirect?Url=%2fsomeUrl%3futm_medium%3dabc%26utm_source%3dabc%26utm_campaign%3dabc I have also checked in Fiddler and the URL is being passed to the server correctly (one possible culprit could have been the browser decoding the URL before sending).
