  • spring mvc 3.0 small web application not quite working

    Hi, i'm creating a very simple (hello World quality) web application using spring mvc 3.0. when deploying the application on tomcat 6.0.26 and i try to open http://localhost:8080/protoweb/helloWorld.html i get 404, resource /protoweb/WEB-INF/jsp/helloWorld.jsp is not available.   • Java code optimization on matrix windowing computes in more time

    I have a matrix which represents an image and I need to cycle over each pixel and for each one of those I have to compute the sum of all its neighbors, ie the pixels that belong to a window of radius rad centered on the pixel. I came up with three alternatives: The simplest way, the one that recomputes the window for each pixel The more optimized way that uses a queue to store the sums of the window columns and cycling through the columns of the matrix updates this queue by adding a new element and removing the oldes The even more optimized way that does not need to recompute the queue for each row but incrementally adjusts a previously saved one I implemented them in c++ using a queue for the second method and a combination of deques for the third (I need to iterate through their elements without destructing them) and scored their times to see if there was an actual improvement. it appears that the third method is indeed faster. Then I tried to port the code to Java (and I must admit that I'm not very comfortable with it). I used ArrayDeque for the second method and LinkedLists for the third resulting in the third being inefficient in time. How can I improve the third Java method? Am I doing some conceptual error? As always, any criticisms is welcome. UPDATE Even if it does not solve the issue, using ArrayLists, as being suggested, instead of LinkedList improves the third method. The second one performs still better (but when the number of rows and columns of the matrix is lower than 300 and the window radius is small the first unoptimized method is the fastest in Java)

  • Search multiple datepicker on same grid

    I'm using multiple datepicker on same grid and I face the problem to get a proper result. I used 3 datepicker in 1 grid. Only the first datepicker (Order Date)is able to output proper result while the other 2 datepicker (Start Date & End Date) are not able to generate proper result. There is no problem with the query, so could you find out what's going on here?   • Spring's EntityManager not persisting

    Well, my project was using EJB and JPA (with Hibernate), but I had to switch to Spring. Everything was working well before that. The EJB used to inject the EntityManager, controled the transaction, etc. Ok, when I switched to Spring, I had a lot of problems because I'm new on Spring. But after everything is running, I have the problem: the data is never saved on database. I configured my Spring to control the transactions, I have spring beans used in JSF, that has spring services that do the hard work. This services have a EntityManager injected and use @Transactional REQUIRED. This services pass the EntityManager to a DAO that call entityManager.persist(bean). The selects appears to work well, the JTA transaction appears to work well to (I saw in log), but the entity is not saved! I ran the PHP MySQL Benchmark Tool v. 0.1, and got the following results: Testing a(n) MYISAM table using 100000 rows. Successfully created database speedtestdb Sucessfully created table speedtesttable Table Type Verified: MYISAM .. Done. 100000 inserts in 19.73628 seconds or 5067 inserts per second. Done. 100000 row reads in 0.2801 seconds or 357015 row reads per second. Done. 100000 updates in 4.03876 seconds or 24760 updates per second. I'm wondering where this stands as far as performance goes, and what are some steps I can take if any to improve on this. I'm not trying to make anything fantastic, just getting a feel for how to best optimize a web server in this configuration.

  • PostgreSQL timezone does not match system timezone

    I have several PostgreSQL 9.2 installations where the timezone used by PostgreSQL is GMT, despite the entire system being "Europe/Vienna". I double-checked that postgresql.conf does not contain timezone setting, so according to the documentation it should fallback to the system's timezone. I would like to put in a data validation that flags cells if the total for a given data/person combination do not equal 100%. Is that possible? In other words, in the custom formula of a data validation, I would like to make the following type of formula. =if(sum( cells with a (date = the date on this row, person = person on this row))=1) Is there a function which will return the cells in a range conditioned on certain values, or will sum the cells. Note that if it is not possible to do two cells, I have no issue adding a cell which combines both values for the purpose of effecting the lookup.

    I have a project with a 2TB database ( 450.000.000 rows). I need to provide to the proyect a solution that gives FailOver and load Balacing, what do you recommend? We are going to use a NetApp Filer for the Data Files and for the File System of the Proyect. I read that SQl Clustering does not provide load balacing. If I cannnot have this feature and I have to go only to the FailOver what Server ( I presume that the key feature here is memory) would you recomend. We are adding 1.000.000 rows a day. Once the rows is inserted we are doing a lot of updates to that row for about 1 week then the row get static. Because of this I am thinking in some kind of history table or database or something like that. I am open to the Os servers implementation, I was thinking of a windows 2008 server with cluster but this depend of the database solution

  • Can't log in via SSH to any accounts set to use /bin/bash as a default shell

    I'm trying to install bash as the default shell on a ARM Linux running on an embedded device (Synology DS212+ NAS). But there's something really wrong, and I can't figure out what it is. Seems that bash is doing some extra checking that sshd didn't like, and blocking the connections for non-root users. Maybe some sort of sanity checking - or terminal emulation - that is triggering the SIGCHLD, but only when called via ssh. I already went through every single item on sshd_config, and also put SSHD in debug mode, but didn't find anything strange. I saw in vim's help (:help 'statusline) that one can set a fixed width of some items. How would you go about fixing the above items in a way, that if one item is missing, or no matter of its width, that it doesn't affect the other ones ? (i.e. so I can always look at a known position and know what is there ... not move my eyes left and right searching for the thing I need).

  • How do large blobs affect SQL delete performance, and how can I mitigate the impact?

    I'm currently experiencing a strange issue that my understanding of SQL Server doesn't quite mesh with. We use SQL as our file storage for our internal storage service, and our database has about half a million rows in it. Most of the files (86%) are 1mb or under, but even on fresh copies of our database where we simply populate the table with data for the purposes of a test, it appears that rows with large amounts of data stored in a BLOB frequently cause timeouts when our SQL Server is under load. My understanding of how SQL Server deletes rows is that it's a garbage collection process, i.e. the row is marked as a ghost and the row is later deleted by the ghost cleanup process after the changes are copied to the transaction log. This suggests to me that regardless of the size of the data in the blob, row deletion should be close to instantaneous. However when deleting these rows we are definitely experiencing large numbers of timeouts and astoundingly low performance. In our test data set, its files over 30mb that cause this issue. This is an edge case, we don't frequently encounter these, and even though we're looking into SQL filestream as a solution to some of our problems, we're trying to narrow down where these issues are originating from. We ARE performing our deletes inside of a transaction. We're also performing updates to metadata such as file size stats, but these exist in a separate table away from the file data itself. Hierarchy data is stored in the table that contains the file information. Really, in the end it's not so much what we're doing around the deletes that matters, we just can't find any references to low delete performance on rows that contain a large amount of data in a BLOB. We are trying to determine if this is even an avenue worth exploring, or if it has to be one of our processes around the delete that's causing the issue. Are there any situations in which this could occur? Is it common for a database server to come to the point of complete timeouts when many of these deletes are occurring simultaneously? Is there a way to combat this issue if it exists? (cross-posted from StackOverflow )

EDIT: My question is more about getting rough metrics of the number of operations a database supports: to be able to know for example, if a new feature triggering 300 inserts/s can be supported without scaling out with additional servers.

  • Thunderbird: change selected email highlight color (when no focus)

    Is it possible to change, in the message list of Thunderbird 3.0, the highlight color of the selected message when the list does not have the focus? The highlight color for the selected row is blue when the list has the focus, this is very clear. But when the list does not have the focus (e.g. after when you click in the message preview area), the highlight color is dark grey. However, this dark grey doesn't really stand out against the alternating row highlighting in the list (at least not on my laptop's LCD screen), making it difficult for me to quickly locate the message I've selected. So, any way to change this dark grey highlighting?
