  • Should I define models that will be owned by many different models or use controller and views?

    I am struggling to figure out how to get a relationship between several models. I have sales_leads which I need to view by company and by event. So if someone looks up the leads by company they can see all leads across all events, but also see all leads by event. Not sure if this is ownership versus a where? Should it be something like Company.sales_leads where("event.event_id = ?", "2356") Or Models: sales_lead belongs_to event belongs_to company

    I have started using c++ extensively in school and now my programs are getting to the point where have more than 1 file (i.e. header, driver, implementation file). I don't know enough about software development to understand or get a grasp of how to setup the build process by looking at apple's guides. Could someone walk me through how to compile a simple c++ project with a header and two c++ files in xcode? Do I first need to make a makefile??

    has anybody found a library that works well with large spreadsheets? I've tried apache's POI but it fails miserably working with large files - both reading and writing. It uses massive amounts of memory leaving you needing a supercomputer to parse or create a 20+mb spreadsheet. Surely there is a more memory efficient way and someone has written it?!

    I am playing with the unix hexdump utility. My input file is UTF-8 encoded, containing a single character ñ, which is C3 B1 in hexadecimal UTF-8. hexdump test.txt 0000000 b1c3 0000002 Huh? This shows B1 C3 - the inverse of what I expected! Can someone explain? For getting the expected output I do: hexdump -C test.txt 00000000 c3 b1 |..| 00000002 I was thinking I understand encoding systems..

However, the changes which i make in the view file is not visible immediately after a hard refresh but after 15-20 mins, the changes reflect.     What is the preferred method of refreshing a combo box when the data changes? If a form is open and the combo box data is already loaded, how do you refresh the contents of the combo box without the form having to be closed and reloaded? Do you have to do something on the Click event on the combo box? This would seem to be a potential slow down for the app if there is a hit to the database every time someone clicks on a combo box.

    I have legacy system where all date fields are maintained in YMD format. Example: 20101123 this is date: 11/23/2010 I'm looking for most optimal way to convert from number to date field. Here is what I came up with: declare @ymd int set @ymd = 20101122 select @ymd, convert(datetime, cast(@ymd as varchar(100)), 112) This is pretty good solution but I'm wandering if someone has better way doing it

  • sIFR: page refresh causes background images problems in IE8

    I'm using sIFR 3 r436. When a page is reloaded, and often also on load, in IE8 the background image does'nt appear completely. When clicking on an intern link the background is displayed correctly. Google Chrome has also minor problems in displaying. It would be great if someone could help me!

  • SEO Help with Pages Indexed by Google

    I'm working on optimizing my site for Google's search engine, and lately I've noticed that when doing a "site:www.joemajewski.com" query, I get results for pages that shouldn't be indexed at all. Let's take a look at this page, for example: http://www.joemajewski.com/wow/profile.php?id=3 I created my own CMS, and this is simply a breakdown of user id #3's statistics, which I noticed is indexed by Google, although it shouldn't be. I understand that it takes some time before Google's results reflect accurately on my site's content, but this has been improperly indexed for nearly six months now. Here are the precautions that I have taken: My robots.txt file has a line like this: Disallow: /wow/profile.php* When running the url through Google Webmaster Tools, it indicates that I did, indeed, correctly create the disallow command. It did state, however, that a page that doesn't get crawled may still get displayed in the search results if it's being linked to. Thus, I took one more precaution. In the source code I included the following meta data: <meta name="robots" content="noindex,follow" /> I am assuming that follow means to use the page when calculating PageRank, etc, and the noindex tells Google to not display the page in the search results. This page, profile.php, is used to take the $_GET['id'] and find the corresponding registered user. It displays a bit of information about that user, but is in no way relevant enough to warrant a display in the search results, so that is why I am trying to stop Google from indexing it. This is not the only page Google is indexing that I would like removed. I also have a WordPress blog, and there are many category pages, tag pages, and archive pages that I would like removed, and am doing the same procedures to attempt to remove them. Can someone explain how to get pages removed from Google's search results, and possibly some criteria that should help determine what types of pages that I don't want indexed. In terms of my WordPress blog, the only pages that I truly want indexed are my articles. Everything else I have tried to block, with little luck from Google. Can someone also explain why it's bad to have pages indexed that don't provide any new or relevant content, such as pages for WordPress tags or categories, which are clearly never going to receive traffic from Google.     Is it safe to store information such as usernames and passwords within comments in your source code? I am not worried about some getting access to my source but I am concerned in regards to someone decompiling my compiled silverlight XAP file. Is anybody 100% sure if the compiler strips off commented code. I would assume it does but I want to be sure. Thanks!

    I need to send hundreds of newsletters, but would like to check first if email exists on server. It's called smtp validation, at least i think so, based on my research on net. There's several libraries that can do that, and also a page with open-source code in asp (http://www.coveryourasp.com/ValidateEmail.asp#Result3), but I have hard time reading classic asp, and it seams that it uses some third-party library... Does someone have code for smtp validation in c#, and/or general explanation of how it works?
