  • use mput to transfer a directory using ftp

    is there anyway to convince mput to send all sub directories of the current directory to the server. Im trying to write a script to automatically update a website when it is run. So far ive been trying mput * but that only sends the files in the current directory. Any help would be appreciated.

    I've read documentation for various ftp daemons and various long threads about the security implications of using a chroot environment for an ftp server when giving users write access. If you read the vsftpd documentation, in particular, it implies that using chroot_local_user is a security hazard, while not using it is not. There seems to be no coverage of the implications of allowing the user access to the entire filesystem (as permitted by their user and group membership), nor to the confusion this can create. So, I'd like to understand what is the correct method to use in practice. Should an ftp server with authenticated write-access users provide a non-chroot environment, a chroot environment, or some other option? Given that Windows ftp daemons don't have the option to use chroot, they need to implement isolation otherwise. Do any unix ftp daemons do something similar?

  • When FTPing into CentOS server, it will drop me into 2 different directores based upon FTP access tool

    I have a fresh install of CentOS 5.7. I created a new user 'ftpuser' with a home directory set to '/var/ftp'. If I FTP to the server using a FTP client it drops me into that home directory(good). If I use IE and use 'ftp://myserver' it drops me into the root of the server(?what?). First: why is this happening, this doesn't seem like correct behavior. Second: How do I prevent this, how do I force 'home' directory no matter what FTP access mechanism? Thanks for any assistance!

    Hi All, We have been using apache commons net FTP classes to connect using a proxy to a Sterling commerce FTP gateway located outside our network to pull files. We do not list the files since we know the name of the file to be pulled so we pull it directly using the below method. boolean isTransferred = ftp.retrieveFile(remoteFileName, outputFile); It was working since 3 years and we have been facing issues since last 2 weeks. The error occurs at above line and is org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPConnectionClosedException: FTP response 421 received. Server closed connection. org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTP.__getReply(FTP.java:347) org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTP.sendCommand(FTP.java:450) org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTP.sendCommand(FTP.java:478) org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient.openDataConnection(FTPClient.java:476) org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient.retrieveFile(FTPClient.java:1228) We are facing these issues intermittently since last 2 weeks and not sure what could be the root cause of it. In each slide, the corresponding anchor or div must have an "active" class, in order to achieve a different link appearance.     To transfer files from my Android phone to Ubuntu, I use an app that creates a FTP server on the phone. Copying files to Ubuntu 12.04 (same with 12.10) I get up to 260 KB/s. Copying files to Windows 7 I get up to 1050 KB/s. I am currently on a fresh install of 12.10 with barely anything installed with the same results. I have tested with both a Galaxy S3 and HTC Desire HD with identical results. I have tested about 5 apps with the same results. Why is it slow on Ubuntu?

Currently to edit a file on the server I have to open the server in Cyberduck, navigate with the mouse to the folder I want and then click "Edit," which opens a temporary file. Anyway, editing files on the server would be way easier if I could use the terminal to navigate through the file directory and edit files.     The listFiles() method of org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient works fine with Filezilla server on 127.0.0.1 but returns null on the root directory of public FTP servers such as belnet.be. There is an identical question on the link below but enterRemotePassiveMode() doesn't seem to help. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2339855/apache-commons-ftpclient-listfiles Could it be an issue with list parsing? If so, how can go about solving this?

    Hi, I am trying to access a external ftp server through my company's FTP proxy from a bash prompt and I am getting the below issue after I enter the user name 421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection Login failed. No control connection for command: Permission denied The proxy works fine for all other sites but I am unable to access a site which has been recently setup using this proxy. Can it be an issue at the site's end like allowing our proxy ip address thru their firewall to access their server? Thanks

    I use FileZilla, and I thought when a session ended, it automatically closed the ftp connection, but that doesn't appear to have happened because now I'm getting a "530 Sorry, the maximum number of connections (10) for your host are already connected." error. One site suggested adding a reference to "Microsoft Internet Transfer Control" and then define an "Inet" object to do the FTP. However, I am unable to find a reference with this name in "Tools - References" in the VB Editor. Does anyone know of a solution for this problem? Thanks in advance.
