  • What is the problem with this code?

    - by Giffyguy
    The compile error I'm getting is "newline in constant" The error occurs where the four asterisks are (****). I can't debug, because the solution won't build successfully. <script type="text/javascript"> function TNClicked(fullImgURL, TNID) { document.getElementById("<%= this.imgFull.ClientID %>").src = fullImgURL; var pnlFullImage = document.getElementById("<%= this.pnlFullImage.ClientID %>"); if (pnlFullImage.style.visibility != "visible") pnlFullImage.style.visibility = "visible"; document.getElementById("<%= this.tcImage.ClientID %>").innerHTML = TNID; //document.forms[0].ctl00$ctl00$ctl00$cntBody$hfImage.value = TNID; //****document.getElementById("<%= this.hfImage").setAttribute("value", TNID); //document.getElementById("<%= this.hfImage.ClientID %>").value = TNID; } </script>

  • String Constant Pool memory sector and garbage collection

    - by WickeD
    I read this question on the site How is the java memory pool divided? and i was wondering to which of these sectors does the "String Constant Pool" belongs? And also does the String literals in the pool ever get GCed? The intern() method returns the base link of the String literal from the pool. If the pool does gets GCed then wouldn't it be counter-productive to the idea of the string pool? New String literals would again be created nullifying the GC. (It is assuming that only a specific set of literals exist in the pool, they never go obsolete and sooner or later they will be needed again)

  • alternative to check, whether a value is in a set

    - by stanleyxu2005
    Hi All, I have the following code. It looks ugly, if the value equals to one of the following value then do something. var Value: Word; begin Value := 30000; if (Value = 30000) or (Value = 40000) or (Value = 1) then do_something; end; I want to refactor the code as follows: var Value: Word; begin Value := 30000; if (Value in [1, 30000, 40000]) then // Does not work do_something; end; However, the refactored code does not work. I assume that a valid set in Delphi accepts only elements with type byte. If there any good alternative to refactor my original code (besides using case)?

  • Deciphering a queer compiler warning about unsigned decimal constant

    - by Artagnon
    This large application has a memory pool library which uses a treap internally to store nodes of memory. The treap is implemented using cpp macros, and the complete file trp.h can be found here. I get the following compiler warning when I attempt to compile the application: warning: this decimal constant is unsigned only in ISO C90 By deleting portions of the macro code and using trial-and-error, I finally found the culprit: #define trp_prio_get(a_type, a_field, a_node) \ (2654435761*(uint32_t)(uintptr_t)(a_node)) I'm not sure what that strange number is doing there, but I assume it's there for a good reason, so I just want to leave it alone. I do want to fix the warning though- any idea why the compiler's saying that it's unsigned only in ISO C90? EDIT: I'm using gcc-4.1

  • JSF2 - use view scope managed bean to pass value between navigation

    - by Fekete Kamosh
    Hi all, I am solving how to pass values from one page to another without making use of session scope managed bean. For most managed beans I would like to have only Request scope. I created a very, very simple calculator example which passes Result object resulting from actions on request bean (CalculatorRequestBean) from 5th phase as initializing value for new instance of request bean initialized in next phase lifecycle. In fact - in production environment we need to pass much more complicated data object which is not as primitive as Result defined below. What is your opinion on this solution which considers both possibilities - we stay on the same view or we navigate to the new one. But in both cases I can get to previous value stored passed using view scoped managed bean. Calculator page: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"> <h:head> <title>Calculator</title> </h:head> <h:body> <h:form> <h:panelGrid columns="2"> <h:outputText value="Value to use:"/> <h:inputText value="#{calculatorBeanRequest.valueToAdd}"/> <h:outputText value="Navigate to new view:"/> <h:selectBooleanCheckbox value="#{calculatorBeanRequest.navigateToNewView}"/> <h:commandButton value="Add" action="#{calculatorBeanRequest.add}"/> <h:commandButton value="Subtract" action="#{calculatorBeanRequest.subtract}"/> <h:outputText value="Result:"/> <h:outputText value="#{calculatorBeanRequest.result.value}"/> <h:outputText value="DUMMY" rendered="#{resultBeanView.dummy}"/> </h:panelGrid> </h:form> </h:body> Object to be passed through lifecycle: package cz.test.calculator; import java.io.Serializable; /** * Data object passed among pages. * Lets imagine it holds something much more complicated than primitive int */ public class Result implements Serializable { private int value; public void setValue(int value) { this.value = value; } public int getValue() { return value; } } Request scoped managed bean used on view "calculator.xhtml" package cz.test.calculator; import javax.annotation.PostConstruct; import javax.faces.bean.ManagedBean; import javax.faces.bean.ManagedProperty; import javax.faces.bean.RequestScoped; @ManagedBean @RequestScoped public class CalculatorBeanRequest { @ManagedProperty(value="#{resultBeanView}") ResultBeanView resultBeanView; private Result result; private int valueToAdd; /** * Should perform navigation to */ private boolean navigateToNewView; /** Creates a new instance of CalculatorBeanRequest */ public CalculatorBeanRequest() { } @PostConstruct public void init() { // Remember already saved result from view scoped bean result = resultBeanView.getResult(); } // Dependency injections public void setResultBeanView(ResultBeanView resultBeanView) { this.resultBeanView = resultBeanView; } public ResultBeanView getResultBeanView() { return resultBeanView; } // Getters, setter public void setValueToAdd(int valueToAdd) { this.valueToAdd = valueToAdd; } public int getValueToAdd() { return valueToAdd; } public boolean isNavigateToNewView() { return navigateToNewView; } public void setNavigateToNewView(boolean navigateToNewView) { this.navigateToNewView = navigateToNewView; } public Result getResult() { return result; } // Actions public String add() { result.setValue(result.getValue() + valueToAdd); return isNavigateToNewView() ? "calculator" : null; } public String subtract() { result.setValue(result.getValue() - valueToAdd); return isNavigateToNewView() ? • matlab constant anonymous function returns only one value instead of an array

    - by Filo
    I've been searching the net for a couple of mornings and found nothing, hope you can help. I have an anonymous function like this f = @(x,y) [sin(2*pi*x).*cos(2*pi*y), cos(2*pi*x).*sin(2*pi*y)]; that needs to be evaluated on an array of points, something like x = 0:0.1:1; y = 0:0.1:1; w = f(x',y'); Now, in the above example everything works fine, the result w is a 11x2 matrix with in each row the correct value f(x(i), y(i)). The problem comes when I change my function to have constant values: f = @(x,y) [0, 1]; Now, even with array inputs like before, I only get out a 1x2 array like w = [0,1]; while of course I want to have the same structure as before, i.e. a 11x2 matrix. I have no idea why Matlab is doing this...

  • PHP combobox can't save the selected value on Edit Page

    - by bEtTy Barnes
    hello I've got problem with my combobox. It's not saving the selected value in Edit page. Here what I'm working with: private function inputCAR(){ $html = ""; $selectedId = $this->CAR; //$html .= '<option value="Roadmap Accelerator - Core">Roadmap Accelerator - Core</option>'; //$html .= '<option value="Roadmap Accelerator - Optional Core">Roadmap Accelerator - Optional Core</option>'; //$html .= '<option value="Regulatory">Regulatory</option>'; //$html .= '<option value="Mission Critical">Mission Critical</option>'; //$html .= '<option value="Various CARs/Types">Various CARs/types</option>'; $selection = array( "Roadmap Accelerator - Core", "Roadmap Accelerator - Optional Core", "Regulatory", "Mission Critical", "Various CARs/types" ); $html .= '<label for="car">CAR Type</label>'; $html .= HTML::selectStart("car"); foreach($selection as $value){ $text = $value; $html .= HTML::option($value, $text, $selectedId == $value ? true : false); } $html .= HTML::selectEnd(); return $html; } My option function: public static function option($value, $text, $isSelected=false) { $html = '<option value="' . $value . '"'; if($isSelected) { $html .= ' selected="selected"'; } $html .= '>'; $html .= $text; $html .= '</option>'; return $html; } When I first created a record. The selected value from my combobox got saved into the DB then the page refreshed to display. When I went to edit page, to select another value, and clicked save button. On the display page, it's not saving. For example. on Create page I selected Regulatory. then I changed my mind and changed it to Mission Critical on Edit page. On display page it is not changed. I don't know what's wrong or what I'm missing here. Any help is welcome and truly appreciated. Thanks.

  • MonoRail - Clearing value on edit form submission doesn't trigger validation

    - by Justin
    Hey, In a MonoRail app I have an add/edit view. On add if I don't pick a value for a dropdown I get a validation error and am forced to pick a value. However, if I then edit that same item and reset the dropdown back to the first item ("Select an Item", "0"), it saves and doesn't say it was invalid. Debugging the entity sent back to the server, I can see that it's sending the original value for the dropdown instead of the new value of "0". What's going on here? The first thing I would expect is that it would trigger the validation since the dropdown value isn't set. The second thing I would expect is that it would send the new value I send, not the original. It does send the new value if I change it to another value, but it's as if it has internal logic that says - "I'm updating this entity and a new value was not passed, just don't change the entity value." Thanks, Justin

  • form_dropdown in codeigniter

    - by Patrick
    I'm getting a strange behaviour from form_dropdown - basically, when I reload the page after validation, the values are screwed up. this bit generates 3 drop downs with days, months and years: $days = array(0 => 'Day...'); for ($i = 1; $i <= 31; $i++) { $days[] = $i; } $months = array(0 => 'Month...', ); for ($i = 1; $i <= 12; $i++) { $months[] = $i; } $years = array(0 => 'Year...'); for ($i = 2010; $i <= 2012; $i++) { $years[$i] = $i; echo "<pre>"; print_r($years); echo "</pre>";//remove this } $selected_day = (isset($selected_day)) ? $selected_day : 0; $selected_month = (isset($selected_month)) ? $selected_month : 0; $selected_year = (isset($selected_year)) ? $selected_year : 0; echo "<p>"; echo form_label('Select date:', 'day', array('class' => 'left')); echo form_dropdown('day', $days, $selected_day, 'class="combosmall"'); echo form_dropdown('month', $months, $selected_month, 'class="combosmall"'); echo form_dropdown('year', $years, $selected_year, 'class="combosmall"'); echo "</p>"; ...and generates this: <p><label for="day" class="left">Select date:</label><select name="day" class="combosmall"> <option value="0" selected="selected">Day...</option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> <option value="4">4</option> <option value="5">5</option> <option value="6">6</option> <option value="7">7</option> <option value="8">8</option> <option value="9">9</option> <option value="10">10</option> <option value="11">11</option> <option value="12">12</option> <option value="13">13</option> <option value="14">14</option> <option value="15">15</option> <option value="16">16</option> <option value="17">17</option> <option value="18">18</option> <option value="19">19</option> <option value="20">20</option> <option value="21">21</option> <option value="22">22</option> <option value="23">23</option> <option value="24">24</option> <option value="25">25</option> <option value="26">26</option> <option value="27">27</option> <option value="28">28</option> <option value="29">29</option> <option value="30">30</option> <option value="31">31</option> </select><select name="month" class="combosmall"> <option value="0" selected="selected">Month...</option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> <option value="4">4</option> <option value="5">5</option> <option value="6">6</option> <option value="7">7</option> <option value="8">8</option> <option value="9">9</option> <option value="10">10</option> <option value="11">11</option> <option value="12">12</option> </select><select name="year" class="combosmall"> <option value="0" selected="selected">Year...</option> <option value="2010">2010</option> <option value="2011">2011</option> <option value="2012">2012</option> </select></p> however, when the form is reloaded after validation, the same code above generates this: <!-- days and months... --> <select name="year" class="combosmall"> <option value="0" selected="selected">Year...</option> <option value="1">2010</option> <option value="2">2011</option> <option value="3">2012</option> </select> So basically the value start from 1 instead of 2010. The same happens to days and months but obviously it doesn't make any difference in this particular case as the values would start from 1 anyway. How can I fix this - and why does it happen? edit: validation rules are: $this->load->library('form_validation'); //...rules for other fields.. $this->form_validation->set_rules('day', 'day', 'required|xss_clean'); $this->form_validation->set_rules('month', 'month', 'required|xss_clean'); $this->form_validation->set_rules('year', 'year', 'required|xss_clean'); $this->form_validation->set_error_delimiters('<p class="error">', '</p>'); //define other errors if($this->input->post('day') == 0 || $this->input->post('month') == 0 || $this->input->post('year') == 0) { $data['error'] = "Please check the date of your event."; }

  • storing an integer constant other than zero in a pointer variable

    - by benjamin button
    int main() { int *d=0; printf("%d\n",*d); return 0; } this works fine. >cc legal.c > ./a.out 0 if i change the statement int *d=0; to int *d=1; i see the error. cc: "legal.c", line 6: error 1522: Cannot initialize a pointer with an integer constant other than zero. so its obvious that it will allow only zero.i want to know what happens inside the memory when we do this int *d=0 which is making it valid syntax. I am just asking this out of curiosity!

  • C++ constant reference lifetime

    - by aaa
    hello I have code that looks like this: class T {}; class container { const T &first, T &second; container(const T&first, const T & second); }; class adapter : T {}; container(adapter(), adapter()); I thought lifetime of constant reference would be lifetime of container. However, it appears otherwise, adapter object is destroyed after container is created, leading dangling reference. What is the correct lifetime? how to correctly implement binding temporary object to class member reference? Thanks

  • In Ruby, is there are better way of selecting a constant (or avoiding the constant altogether) based

    - by Vertis
    Not sure the title fully describes the problem/question I'm trying to ask, sorry. I'm One of my fellow developers has created classes as such: class Widget attr_accessor :model_type ... end and: class ModelType MODEL1 = "model1" MODEL2 = "model2" MODEL3 = "model3" end Now he wants me to convert a retrieved string "MODEL1" to the constant. So that when he is referencing that model elsewhere he can use ModelType::MODEL1. Obviously I've got to convert from the string I'm being given with something like the following: case model_type when 'MODEL1' @model_type = ModelType::MODEL1 ... end I feel like this is clunky, so I'd like to know if there is a better DRYer way of providing this kind of functionality.

  • Constant Assigment Bug in Ruby?

    - by aronchick
    We caught some code in Ruby that seems odd, and I was wondering if someone could explain it: $ irb irb(main):001:0> APPLE = 'aaa' => "aaa" irb(main):002:0> banana = APPLE => "aaa" irb(main):003:0> banana << 'bbb' => "aaabbb" irb(main):004:0> banana => "aaabbb" irb(main):005:0> APPLE => "aaabbb" Catch that? The constant was appended to at the same time the local variable was. Known behavior? Expected?

  • Constant embedded for loop condition optimization in C++ with gcc

    - by solinent
    Will a compiler optimize tihs: bool someCondition = someVeryTimeConsumingTask(/* ... */); for (int i=0; i<HUGE_INNER_LOOP; ++i) { if (someCondition) doCondition(i); else bacon(i); } into: bool someCondition = someVeryTimeConsumingTask(/* ... */); if (someCondition) for (int i=0; i<HUGE_INNER_LOOP; ++i) doCondition(i); else for (int i=0; i<HUGE_INNER_LOOP; ++i) bacon(i); someCondition is trivially constant within the for loop. This may seem obvious and that I should do this myself, but if you have more than one condition then you are dealing with permuatations of for loops, so the code would get quite a bit longer. I am deciding on whether to do it (I am already optimizing) or whether it will be a waste of my time.

  • Access static constant variable from multiple threads in C

    - by user325519
    I have some experience with multithread programming under Linux (C/C++ & POSIX threads), however most obvious cases are sometimes very complicated. I have several static constant variables (global and function local) in my code, can I access them simultaneously from multiple threads without using mutexes? Because I don't modify them it should be ok, but it's always better to ask. I have to do heavy speed optimization, so even as fast operations as mutex lock/unlock are quite expensive for me, especially because my application is going to access these variables form long loops.

  • Why does a non-constant offsetof expression work?

    - by Chris J. Kiick
    Why does this work: #include <sys/types.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stddef.h> typedef struct x { int a; int b[128]; } x_t; int function(int i) { size_t a; a = offsetof(x_t, b[i]); return a; } int main(int argc, char **argv) { printf("%d\n", function(atoi(argv[1]))); } If I remember the definition of offsetof correctly, it's a compile time construct. Using 'i' as the array index results in a non-constant expression. I don't understand how the compiler can evaluate the expression at compile time. Why isn't this flagged as an error?

  • scrollTop issue on constant moving div

    - by joe
    I have a FLASH object that I mouse over which in turn calls the following function to scroll a div. It works but due to the constant high speed scrolling it would throw up NULLS. This in turn caused IE to open a new page through my FLASH ActionScript 2.0 I found that by creating the SC variable and throwing in the condition "if it exists" keeps FLASH from causing IE to open a new page. However, it still creates an error behind the scenes of "Object Required". Although my application works I do not want load up memory with errors. Any thoughts? var SC; function pP(PT){ SC=document.getElementById('P'+PT).offsetTop; if(SC){document.getElementById('CBOX').scrollTop=SC;} }

  • Criteria for selecting timeout value?

    - by stijn
    Situation: a piece of software reads frames of data from a file in a seperate thread and puts it on a queue, emptied by another thread. That second thread periodically checks on the queue and fails rather gracefully, by showing an error message stating the read timed out, if no data is available within a certain amount of time. Initially this timeout was set to 200mSec. There was no real reasoning behind that constant though, but it worked fine. We measured on a couple of machines and for large data frames, larger than what would be used by customers, a read took like 20mSec whith no other load on the machine. However one customer now gets timeout errors now and then (on the second try all is fine, probably the file is in cache or the virus scanner leaves it alone). The programmers are like 'well, yeah, but that customer's machine is full of cruft, virus scanners, tons of unneeded background processes etc'. Of course the customer is like 'hey this should just work, shouldn't it'? While the programers have a point, since the software is heavy enough to validate the need for a dedicated machine, that does not make the customer happy. Increasing the timeout to 2 seconds, for example, solves the problem. But I'd like to make a proper decision now instead of just randomly pick some magic constant that is probably ok in 99% of cases. What criteria should be used for that? We could just pick a large number, but that feels wrong. (and then we end up with a program that has the horrible bahaviour of hanging when trying to read from a disconnected drive for instance, whereas we'd rather make it show an error right away). Or we could make the timeout value a user setting, but then we need to ducument it clearly and even then not all customers are tech savy enough to really understand what it does. Or we could try and wait until another customer reports timeouts and increase the value again. And again. Until we find something ok for 99.99% of the cases.. Any good practice for this type of situation?
