  • How do you define your own shortcuts in Outlook 2007

  • I don't have permission on my own machine?

    I'm running Ubuntu desktop and I don't have permission to modify some local files on my computer. IE - within /var/www/ I can't create a new folder unless I sudo. How do I fix it so by default I have permission without logging in as the root user?

  • Browser with its own hosts file?

    I have a number of staging and test servers that I need to constantly modify my hosts file to access (they depend on the domain name, so i have to change the hosts file to get them to work). I find this annoying. I'd like to setup a portable browser of some kind for each kind of site i want to work with. Is there any version of any graphical web browser (including browsers based on the rendering engines of other browsers) that will do this? This way i can simply launch the instance that's already configured to work with staging if i want to test staging. Any ideas?

  • Will unbinding a server to an Open Directory Master remove its own file shares

    According to this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3180?viewlocale=en_US I am required to remove the ldap binding of my second Mac OS X Lion server before I set it up as a replica server. I initially set the server up as a replica, or so I thought, and created file shares (it refers to the first server's ACL) before I realized it was never promoted as a replica server. So as of now it's running and shares files with correct ACL permissions but if the Master goes down all the file shares seize up. I want to set it up as a replica so this is not an issue; however, I don't want to lose the file shares and their permissions as I remove the binding and restart the server-- apparently I must remove the ldap binding to the OD Master (also a Mac OS X Lion server) before setting it up as a replica.

  • Window 7 Computer name changing on its own?

    Very odd problem... I have a Dell Latitude D830 with XP Pro that has been running on my local domain for many years. I recently Installed Windows 7 Enterprise on the D830 using a brand new HDD so that I could still use XP if I needed by just swapping out the HDD's. I added the W7 installed system to my domain using a completely different machine name than that used for the XP system and everything seemed to be functioning as it should. On boot up over the last 2 weeks or so I occasionally (3 times now) get to the login screen and try to login to the domain only to get an error saying that the Computer name is not a trusted machine in the domain I'm trying to log in to. Come to find out that the machine name on the W7 system has been changed somehow to that of my old XP system. If on the W7 system I then change the name back to the correct name, disjoin the domain, reboot, add the machine back into the domain … all is well for an unknown period of time until this happens again. This last time, I know for a fact that everything was fine the day before when I shut down the system. I came in today, powered up the system and the machine name had been changed to that of my old XP system again. Has anybody else seen this behavior or hav any ideas on what could be causing it?     Hi all, I have a 512 kb/s DSL service at home. I do not have a static IP but I can get one if I pay some extra to my ISP. Now, if I get the static IP, can I make my home box act as my internet host? What else do I need? Thanks P.S. I know that if at all possible, the site I make available this way might be slow, that is alright, my question is if it is possible at all. Edit: I need this for very small traffic. I am a php developer and for my projects I am often asked to provide a demo. I currently use a free hosting for this purpose but it is down most of the time and support is non-existent. So I thought to set-up my home computer as my test server. With this please note that: I will only occasionally have 'visitors' and that will be one or possibly two visitors at any time. These demos, are to showcase functionality, so no big images are served and page views will normally generate under 100KB of traffic.

    I am having a problem with a new installation of MATLAB (2012b) that is cannot find the base enumberation type Simulink.IntEnumType. The specific error text is: specified superclass 'Simulink.IntEnumType' contains a parse error or cannot be found on MATLAB's search path, possibly shadowed by another file with the same name I am quite sure there is no shadowing, so I suspect there is a problem with the installation. Any ideas what could have gone wrong?

  • Best video codec to store my own collection

    Hello! I think this question has already been asked but with different flavours. My problem resised in the fact that my camera (Canon G9) creates video with almost raw codec (I think it's plain old MPEG) so a 10 minutes video is almost 900mb. I would like to convert them in a format that has a good trade-off between space and quality, but I would prefer having the quality as good as the original (of course this is not possible because of lossy compression) just saving as much space is possible with a minimal lose of quality. Which codec should I look for? H264? It seems to be the champion of the moment.. otherwise which other ones could I try? XviD? Which parameters should I use? I mean how many kbits/s is a fair good bitrate to keep high quality? And what about audio codec? video specs are 640x480 at 30fps or 1024x768 at 15fps.. thanks in advance!

    Hi there, We have a company server with a variety of websites. They are maintained by different people from within our company. All websites are public. The server access is limited to our company only. This is NOT a shared hosting environment. We are looking into securing the server, currently analyzing the risk related to permissions of files. We feel the highest risk is when files are uploaded and then opened/executed by the public. This should not happen, but an error in a script might allow people to do so (there are image uploaders, file uploaders, etc). Uploader scripts use PHP. So the question is: what is the best way of setting / organizing permissions of files and processes? There seem to be several options to run PHP (and Apache), and setting the permissions. What should we take into consideration? Any tips? We are considering mod_php and FastCGI, but perhaps given our situation other solutions are preferred?

  • AWS own email domain and some generic questions

    I'm getting started with Amazon Web Services and I have a few question I'm not sure about. As every (company) webpage I want to use an "[email protected]" email adress, but how is that done? I looked up at godaddy.com (for domain registration), the offer me an email adress like I want, but for 3 dollars per month. Is this possible with AWS? Because at AWS you have just a complex domain which is not very userfriendly or serious. Also I want to host my dynamic webpage on the amazon cloud, but I'm not sure if I'm doing that right. I've read many guides, and all I know is that I have to purchase a Elastic Compute Cloud, and a Simple Storage Service... and every guide is working with the basic linux package, why not Windows? Is it more expensive? I just want to host a mySQL Server for the dynamic webpage, which is reached over a normal domain. And one last question, if I sign up for an AWS account it asks me for an email account. But I found it a little bit unserious to write there my free-webmailer-adress... How is it done the normal way?   • QMail do not delivery to remote mailboxes for my own domain

    Sorry for the title, I don't know how to sum up this situation. I have a web server at mydomain.com, running qmail for website related mail delivery (i.e. newsletter, sign up confirmation, etc). qmail here is used only to send mails, because I have a fully working Google App Gmail associated with mydomain.com for normal email receiving. qmail runs fine when sending email to remote addresses, for example to [email protected], but fails when sending to [email protected]. I think it's because the server thinks that he have to manage mailboxes for mydomain.com locally, instead of redirect them to Gmail.   • Deleting another user's diretories from my own

    I am a non-root user, and have made a directory into which other users in my group can write. The directory is setgid, so files and directories within it have the same group. I can delete files placed into this directory, but if a user creates a subdirectory with files in it, I can't seem to delete those. Is there something special I can do (other than, say, bothering the user in question or the sysadmin about it) to get rid of this subdirectory?

  • Generating my own SQL Server SSL Certificate

    I hear it's possible to make myself a test certificate with MakeCert from Windows SDK, but the beast is 1.5 GB, which I feel reluctant to download for a half-megabyte program. I do, however, have IIS Resource kit with me, which has selfssl to generate certificate for IIS. Will that work for SQL Server? Is there a more convenient way of generating myself an SSL certificate for SQL Server use? I even tried using CREATE CERTIFICATE with TSQL within SQL Server and then have it BACKUP into a file, but with no success. I must have confused the concept of certificate fundamentally. Any advice?

  • timeout with apache & php w/ each virtual host has his own user process

    I have 10 unix users in /home/. Each user is for a specific subdomain for example user www in /home/www/public_html is for www.mywebsite. blog in /home/blog/public_html is for blog.mywebsite. 90% is php and 10% ror for the moment i use apache + fastcgi that use SuexecUserGroup to setup the process with the good user. it seems to works but i have a strange behavior where after a few hours/days, the server stop answering (timeout) but the cpu load is still very low (it's a big server), the apache status display lot of "W" Sending Reply states but there's still 50 idle workers so it should be able to answer. in the older server (lot of slower) we add only one user and using mod_php and we never had this issue. is there another way to do that without fastcgi and SuexecUserGroup or do you know what's going wrong?

Is it possible to have all these sites use just one IP address and have SSL certificate setup for each site? If yes, please let me know how I can set this up. Thanks

  • Set up Gmail with Google apps for own domain

    I rent a server from a German company. I have remote access to it as well as WHM and CPanel. I decided to use Google's mail servers for obvious reasons. I am not an admin just an average guy trying to set up what needs to be set up. The problem is I am unable to make the necessary settings. I watched Youtube tutorials, followed written ones as well as Google's help, but there is (at least) one serious problem with my domain settings. The domain console alwasy says Your MX records are incorrect When I check dappwall.com in mxtoolbox.com it says Pref Hostname IP Address TTL 10 mail.dappwall.com 46.4.88.247 24 hrs But this is not the host name. I checked WHM and my hostname is server1.dappwall.com. I can confirm it by typing the hostname command in putty. However, if I do an mx lookup at mxtoolbox.com on server1.dappwall.com or mail.dappwall.com I get Lookup failed after 1 name servers timed out or responded non-authoritatively I ran checks on the google apps toolbox on dappwall.com and two problems emerged: 1.No Google mail exchangers found. Relayhost configuration? 10 mail.dappwall.com In Google Apps > Settings for Gmail > Advanced settings it also says that my current MX records for dappwall.com is Priority Points to 10 MAIL.DAPPWALL.COM. So mail.dappwall.com again. I also have access to a robot provided by the company I rent the server from. Here I see this mail at two places but how should I (if it's necessary) modify this? I set Email routing to Automatically Detect Configuration. 2.There SHOULD be a valid SPF record. "v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all" In the DNS Zone Editor I added this spf record: Name TTL Class Type Record dappwall.com. 1440 IN TXT v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all In the cPanel Email Authentication page it says SPF: Status: Enabled Warning: cPanel is unable to verify that this server is an authoritative nameserver for dappwall.com. [?] Your current raw SPF record is : v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all How can I confirm that my server is an authoritative nameserver for dappwall.com? In WHM Service Configuration Mailserver selection Dovecot was set but I disabled it (i don't know if that's ok). What am I missing here? Where is that mail.dappwall.com coming from?

    I have reasonably many electronic gadgets that can go LAN or WI-FI. But how do you share and/or syncronize all your files among them? Well, between my laptops and my desktop I use Dropbox. A nice way to share files among computers. But what if your HDD on your laptop is not large enough to carry music, pictures and films. Normally you would buy an extern USB HDD and store them there, but then you cannot reach the files from other computers which are not connected to the USB device. Many would say I should use a solution like a cloud with a disc station or something like that. But my needs are follows: A mass storage which can be reached among devices (laptops, desktops, iPhone, Android phone, XBox or Playstation). Has low power requirements and is silent. Can be reached inside home and it would be nice if it could be reached outside home as well. Cheap I have looked around and I have found an wireless router which can share a USB device: D-Link Wireless N HD Media Router. I thought it would be an interesting solution for a simple local cloud solution. D-Link uses a little program called SharePort Plus which mount the USB device to your computer. Unfortunately is the transfer rate to the USB storage device rather disappointing. The transfer rate was 5.8 Mbps even though the distance between the laptop and the router was 2 meter. The same is happening when I use cable from the computer to the router. Another thing is that SharePort Plus only allows one computer be connected to the device at a time. The last thing was something I could live with. I have search on the Internet for other solutions and found this video from Synology. I'm not sure if their solution is the right one. I think a disc station connected to my home LAN could the right solution. What have you done in your home to store and share files among your computers and game consoles?

  • Own website fails to load first time

    I have a website running on a VPS, every time I first try to load the website the connection times out. If I press try again, it loads directly. I'm not sure whether this is a DNS issue or a server issue. As far as I know everything is set up correctly. Also, it has been doing this from the moment I got this server and set up my domain name. And that's about two to three months ago. You may take a look here: http://www.wegotcha.nl/ As you can see at this moment it's just an image, there are no scripts running in the background or anything. The only error Apache gives me is that favicon.ico cannot be found. It's an Apache webserver running on Ubuntu 12.04.1 (newest version) I update all packages almost every day (apt-get update && apt-get upgrade). I am merely an amateur on the area of webservers so any help will be appreciated. :)
