  • Encoding multiple video streams with a single avconv invocation

    I played with avconv on Ubuntu and I'm now able to e.g. record the desktop with sound from a soundcard. One thing I wanted to do was recording two video inputs at the same time, for instance the desktop and from the webcam. I thought about doing something like this: avconv \ -f alsa \ -i default \ -acodec flac \ -f video4linux2 \ -r 6 \ -i /dev/video0 \ -f x11grab \ -i :0.0 \ out.mkv My thinking was that if you define multiple video inputs, and the .mkv format can handle multiple video streams, avconv will encode 2 video streams and 1 audio stream into one file.     I've wasted an absurd amount of time trying to get my nVidia card to function properly in Linux (Ubuntu & Fedora). I've decided to purchase a new video card that will "just work" with any Linux I throw at it. Making things even easier, I'm not a gamer, though I do appreciate some of the 3D or alpha blending effects seen in modern GUIs. What cards and/or manufacturers do you recommend for the maximum acceleration with minimum problems?

  • Real Silverlight Support on Windows Embedded Compact 7?

    So Windows Embedded Compact 7 (another classic from the naming department) supports Silverlight for Windows Embedded. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-us/products/windowsce/compact7.mspx But this is a C++ only stripped down version of Silverlight 2 XAML. Does anybody know if Windows Embedded Compact 7 will support real Silverlight? This seems to be out of step with Windows Phone (which I think is based on Windows CE 6) and the fact that Windows Embedded Compact 7 supports Flash 10.1.

  • Missing audio and problems playing FLV video converted from 720p .mov file with FFMPEG

    I have some .mov video files recorded from a JVC GC-FM1 HD video camera in 720p mode. I have FFMPEG running on a Linux box that I upload files to and have them encoded into FLV format. The video appears to be encoding ok but there is no audio in the resulting FLV file and when I play it back in Flash Player in a browser or on Adobe Media Player, the video pauses at the start. It appears that Adobe Media Player waits for the progress bar to reach the end of the video before starting the playback - i.e. the video will load, the picture pauses, the progress bar seeks to the end as if the video was playing then when it reaches the end the video picture starts. There is no audio on the video. I am noticing this in the video player I have built with Flash 8 using an FLVPlayback component and attached seekBar. The seek bar will start moving as if the video is playing but the picture remains paused.   • Windows Media Based video audio converter?

    This may seem like an odd question. Right now ONLY windows media player, VLC and media player classic opens and plays my audio video correctly. Virtualdub plays it back with the wrong framerate and losses the audio, Avidemux 2.5 seems to be able to dump the audio/video but the video (like all other apps) is either a bad framerate or is wrong (glitches and bad framerate or bad dump). Nothing recognizes the audio file and when playing the video Avidemux (and most other things) die. FFMPEG cant seem to split the video or audio (using copy -an and etc) and this is getting me very angry. VLC dumps the video incorrectly when i try dumping it with that too. What can i use to convert the video? its streaming so it starts at 26mins in and ends at 28 (this is where apps have the problem. They dont know this and fudge everything or crash). I manage to dump the audio with Avidemux but virtualdub and ffmpeg says unreconized codec. Even if i cant convert it (it seems compressed enough) i want to at least attach it back into an AVI.

Make your networked-toaster burn your bread 10,000 miles away, over the Web for grins and giggles. Well, apparently the Black Hatters say it can be done pretty easily these days, which is scary. The challenges associated with developing securely in these languages have been fought for nearly two decades. "You often hear people say, 'Well, why don't we just get rid of the C and C++ language if it's so problematic. Of course they should be using Java SE Embedded technology! It's a natural fit to use for better security on embedded devices.   • What is the simplest way to render video into memory (for drawing to a texture) in .NET?

    In my project I would like to be able to play back video on surfaces in the world. I intend to do this by having the video frames rendered to a block of memory, then use this to update a texture each frame. Everything is in place - except for the part that actually gets the video. I have looked on Google and found that the video library world is very expansive (and geared towards video processing), and am having trouble finding a suitable one. FFMpeg is very comprehensive, but is an entire suite and would take a good amount of work to integrate. So far the most promising library I've found is the one based on the VLC player libraries - by virtue of it using the same resources as VLC Player it is known to be very capable; it also renders to blocks of memory, but the API (at least of the one on Codeplex) is more of a port of the C++ API rather than a managed wrapper. The 'solution' can be any wrapper/API/library, but with characteristics that make it suitable for use in a rendering engine, namely: Renders the video frame data to memory, so it can be picked up and passed to a texture on the GPU easily. Super simple - all that is needed is a way to load, jump and render a frame programatically - ideally it would use the systems codecs and not require an assortment of plugins. Permissive license (LGPL or more free-er) .NET bindings at least; all the better if it is natively managed Can anyone suggest a lightweight, (.NET) library, that can take a video file, and spit out some frames into a byte[]?

  • Is embedded programming closer to electrical engineering or software development?

    I am being approached with a job for writing embedded C on micro controllers. At first I would have thought that embedding programming is to low on the software stack for me, but maybe I am thinking about it wrong. Normally I would have shrugged off an opportunity to write embedded code, as I don't consider myself an electrical engineer. Is this a bad assumption? Am I able to write interesting and useful software for embedded systems, or will I kick myself for dropping too low on the software stack? I went to school for computer science and really enjoyed writing a compiler, managing concurrent algorithms, designing data structures, and developing frameworks. However, I am currently employed as a Flex developer, which doesn't scream the interesting things I just described. (I currently deal with issues like: "this check box needs to be 4 pixels to the left" and "this date is formatted wrong".) I appreciate everyone's input. I know I have to make the decision for myself, I just would like some clarification on what it means to be a embedded programmer, and if it fits what I find to be interesting.

  • Wiping out user and/or root password in embedded linux

    We have a security camera system running an embedded linux. It boots with Lilo as a bootloader and has no tty access once booted. I don't know any username either. SSH/22 is open, but I don't think brute force is an option. I have tried all the common tricks to reset a linux user password (boot from the bootloader in single user mode = doesn't happen, still prompts for user login, boot to a live cd = can't access the file system...it's all loop files and other binary, etc etc), but they are all not possible as it is an embedded linux setup the way it is. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Is it possible to install Canon EOS T3 Camera Drivers on Windows 7 Embedded

    I have a computer running Windows 7 Embedded. It's an embedded system that will be used in a industrial setting. It needs to be connected to a Canon EOS camera and download pictures from the camera. Other versions of windows come with the Canon drivers so Canon does not provide them as a download on their website. In the past, I had a similar issue with the "N" version of Microsoft Windows Starter and had to download the "Microsoft Media Feature Pack" which then installed the drivers. I attempted to install that on this device, but understandably it complains that its not applicable for this version of windows. So, is there there a feature pack or some other sort of download available that will install the camera drivers? Alternatively, is there some place to get the drivers and manually install them.     Hi, I'm working for an important company which has some severe network policies. I'd like to connect from my work, to my home linux server (mainly because it allows me to monitor my home-automated installation, but that's off-topic) but of course, any ssh connection (tcp port 22) to an external site is blocked. While I understand why this is done (to avoid ssh tunnels I guess), I really need to have some access to my box. (Well, "need" might be exagerated, but that would be nice ;) Do you know any web-based solution that I could install on my home linux server that would give me some pseudo-terminal (served using https) embedded in a web page ? I'm not necessarily looking for something graphical: a simple web-embedded ssh console would do the trick. Or do you guys see any other solution that wouldn't compromise network security ?     I have a video of a tennis match whose Resolution = 1280 * 720 Codec = H264 Frame rate = 50fps (Copy paste from info given by totem media player) My laptop is not powerful enough to play this video smoothly. How can I reduce the frame-rate of this video so that my laptop can play it? I have observed that my laptop can play videos with 25fps without an issue. I use ubuntu. I wouldn't mind using windows to edit/re-encode this video.
