    I'm trying to test my ASP.Net website on localhost and I'm getting this error: HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized You do not have permission to view this directory or page because of the access control list (ACL) configuration or encryption settings for this resource on the Web server.   • Millions of SYN_RECV connections, no DDoS

    We have such server structure: reverse proxy (nginx) - worker (uwsgi) - postgresql / memcached. All servers are in local network behind router, with NATed external ip:ports (http/s 80/443 to proxy, and ssh 22 to all servers). Problem is, that sometimes proxy server netstat reports MILLIONS of SYN_RECV connections. From same IP / same ports.   • HAProxy redirect HTTPS to HTTP

    I'm using HAProxy as a load balancer and i'd like to redirect any traffic that comes in on 443 (HTTPS) to 80 (HTTP). My site doesn't support HTTPS at all and i'd rather just redirect users than cause any SSL warnings in browsers. All I can find is using the redirect location <to> syntax, but as far as I can tell that requires me to hard code the hostname. The load balancer receives connections for various hostnames so would like to keep it relative.

What are some of the funniest/cleverest/most creative error pages or error messages you've seen, or can think of? (Somewhat similar to this question on StackOverflow) I know this isn't a specific question with a single answer but it is relevant to site admins who want to keep their visitors happy (or terrified, if you prefer ;-) I'll certainly be looking for inspiration for my own website's error pages.

  • http port 80 slow, while other ports are fine

    I am using ADSL2+, and the sustained connection can go up to 1.3MB/s, but recently the HTTP connection has been quite slow ( other port i.e. ftp, torrent, etc are fine). I am using Netgear modem/router for my ADSL connection, and am using Netgear switches for my LAN (connected to the modem). What can go wrong and how can I investigate?

    When you're prompted to login to a site using HTTP authentication (the kind with the pop-up box requesting username/password), Firefox's password manager populates it with only the first stored password for that domain. Is there a way to have Firefox prompt for WHICH account should be used? It is unlike the normal HTML login forms in which you can just press the down arrow to select from multiple login accounts.

  • Is there a stable email client or email client plugin that will support GMail-like conversations?

    Conversations in GMail are such an incredibly simple yet powerful way to look at mail. I get about twenty emails a day from various clients and I hate looking at a flat file of all emails, and I hate looking at "per client" email folders. With GMail I can just look at a specific conversation. I can see a few lines from each in the collapsed titles so that I can quickly remember what was said previously, and I can expand them if I need details or need to quote something. But I can't justify using GMail to handle sensitive work emails, and we need to be able to access all my emails offline. So what do I use?

  • How to improve the HTML formatting in Evolution mail client

    I have a question about viewing HTML emails in the Evolution mail client. Basically, I am receiving some emails that look lovely in Thunderbird but not in Evolution because the HTML rendering of Evolution isn't as advanced. Does anyone know how to improve the HTML rendering of Evolution? e.g. a plugin, tip, code patch, etc... The closest I've got is to right-click the email, "Save As...", save as a html file, then open in Firefox. Not exactly streamline! What emails can't it display well? We use the subversion revision control system which is set up to send an email whenever someone commits via svnnotify all nicely coloured via the --handler HTML::ColorDiff -d parameter. When Evolution fails to use the colours, I find it very had to read the raw diff.

    I'm looking for an open source, non-proprietery solution to this problem, any help would be appreciated. I'd like to setup a server running Ubuntu Server. I'd then like to connect to this server from a stateless thin client and use an x-session. This would occur mostly over local area networks, but also possibly over the internet. What would be the ideal set of software to accomplish this from a security, and usability standpoint? Are there any ready-made stateless thin clients that don't require proprietery software?

  • Email client supporting multiple accounts

    I've been using Microsoft Outlook for a very long time, although one thing that has bugged me is how multiple email accounts are handled. As far as I can tell, there isn't a set and straightforward way of managing multiple accounts in one instance of outlook. For example, when I create an email, saving it as a draft will by default dump it into the first personal folder that I have open, which in my current case, is not where I want it. I would like all trash, spam, drafts, contacts, etc. etc. to be handled on a PF by PF basis. Now to my question: Is there a way to accomplish the task of email account "segregation" in Outlook (2007 is my current version), or is there another client that handles this in a more organized fashion? Note: I don't use most of the features in outlook (I hardly even need special formatting for my messages), I generally just send and read mail, and get a few attachments, so leaving Outlook wouldn't be too much of a stretch for me.

    I am trying to create client certifications against a microsoft CA using the built in website. (Microsoft Active directory Certificate Services) From what I can tell you have to login as the user to create the corresponding certificate. Is there anyway to get around that? I tried to create my own template duplicating the user tempalte but it doesn't match and gets rejected when trying to authenticate. Is this something I'd have to look at building? Any help is appreciative, thank you for your time.

  • Remote Software Solution that Acts as a Client

    I am looking for something that I am not sure exists. I have a remote computer that will not allow incoming traffic due to ISP blocking of ports(basically double NAT situation that I am unable to get around). I am wondering if I have a computer acting as a client, is there any solution out there that will allow remote access to the computer. I do have other servers on the net that have static IP's that the computer could initiate a connection with. I am thinking of using Debian Linux, However computer is not built yet so OS is not overly important at this point.

  • Problem using Hibernate-Search

    Hi, I am using hibernate search for my application. It is well configured and running perfectly till some time back, when it stopped working suddenly. The reason according to me being the number of my model (bean) classes. I have some 90 classes, which I add to my configuration, while building my Hibernate Configuration. When, I disable hibernate search (remove the search annotations and use Configuration instead of AnnotationsConfiguration), I try to start my application, it Works fine. But,the same app when I enable search, it just hangs up. I tried debugging and found the exact place where it hangs. After adding all the class to my AnnotationsConfiguration object, when I say cfg.buildSessionfactory(), It never comes out of that statement. (I have waited for hours!!!) Also when I decrease the number of my model classes (like say to half i.e. 50) it comes out of that statement and the application works fine.. Can Someone tell why is this happening?? My versions of hibernate are: hibernate-core-3.3.1.GA.jar hibernate-annotations-3.4.0.GA.jar hibernate-commons-annotations-3.1.0.GA.jar hibernate-search-3.1.0.GA.jar Also if need to avoid using AnnotationsConfiguration, I read that I need to configure the search event listeners explicitly.. can anyone list all the neccessary listeners and their respective classes?   • HTTP Module in detail

    I know this post may sound like very beginner level. But I have already posted two topics regarding HTTP Handler and HTTP module and this will explain how http module works in the system. I have already posted What is the difference between HttpModule and HTTPHandler here. Same way I have posted about an HTTP Handler example here as people are still confused with it. In this post I am going to explain about HTTP Module in detail. What is HTTP Module As we all know that when ASP.NET Runtimes receives any request it will execute a series of HTTP Pipeline extensible objects. HTTP Module and HTTP handler play important role in extending this HTTP Pipelines. HTTP Module are classes that will pre and post process request as they pass into HTTP Pipelines.  So It’s one kind of filter we can say which will do some procession on begin request and end request. If we have to create HTTP Module we have to implement System.Web.IHttpModule interface in our custom class. An IHTTP Module contains two method dispose where you can write your clean up code and another is Init where your can write your custom code to handle request. Here you can your event handler that will execute at the time of begin request and end request. Let’s create an HTTP Module which will just print text in browser with every request.     Hi all, I'm having a strange situation here. I got it working, but I don't understand why. Situation is as follows: There is a WCF service which my application (a website) has to call. The WCF service exposes a netTcpBinding and requires Transport Security (Windows). Client and server are in the same domain, but on different servers. All good. My question now is: why does this work? What does this do? I got to this solution by mere trial-and-error. To me it seems that all the <dns /> tag does is tell the client to use the default DNS for authentication, but doesn't it do that anyway? Thanks for providing me with some insight.
