  • config.cache_classes = true in production mode has problems in IE

    Hi Dears, In my rails app. I am using link_to_function to bring an ajax tabs in one page.Everything works fine in Moazilla and other browsers. But in IE the tabs are not loading only when the server is started in production mode(doesn't matter whether its webrick or mongrel). In development mode everything is fine. So I figured out that the issue was with one line config.cache_classes = true in app/config/environments/production.rb when i changed the above code to config.cache_classes = false everything works fine. So I assume caching causes problem in rails. When I Googled about this I found many have the issues with caching. So my question is 1) is there any other fix for this? 2) Does this fix (config.cache_classes = false) causes any performance issues. If then how to overcome that? It will not appear in IE 7/8 no matter what I do! I've tried everything I can think of, including: generating the ICO with a variety of different utilities, changing the syntax of the favicon link elements in the document head, using absolute, relative, and root-relative URLs in the favicon link elements, using a PNG instead of an ICO file, ensuring that I am uploading the file via FTP in binary mode, As a longtime web developer/programmer, I can't believe that this is tripping me up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • <a> with an inner <span> not triggering :active state in IE 8

    I want to style the :active state of a button that is represented by an <a> tag. The <a> tag has an inner <span> (beacuse I want to add an icon to this button). I notice the :active state is triggered properly in everything but Internet Explorer 8. In IE 8, it appears that the area around the <span> (the <a>’s padding) triggers the :active state, but when clicking directly on the text within the <span>, the :active state is not triggered.   • Why didn't IE8 support border-radius, evil or ignorance?

    When I think back to the time of the release of IE7, I was surprised that there wasn't border-radius support. It seems like an obviously great idea to have a css-property name for rounded corners, which can potentially make a site look less like it came from the computer stone-age. Finally, today we have IE9 and Microsoft finally decided to play ball with the rest of the world. But the question remains, why didn't Microsoft bother to support border-radius in IE8? The problem probably became obvious to the company as the growing chorus of complaints from web developers got louder after the release of IE7. Was the company so isolated or in group-think mode that they were blind for that many years? Or did Microsoft have some additional motive to suppress the border-radius property?

    If you get "Receive Anonymous Level Security token" message in IE8 when trying to access Shared Services or Workspace URL.Workaround:a. Go to Start > Run and enter dcomcnfgb. Expand Component Services, Expand Computers and right click on My Computer and select Propertiesc. Click on the Default Properties tab.  Change the Default Authentication Level to Connect.  Click apply and then OK.d. Launch the IE browser again and you will be able to access the URL.

  • Cannot see response body in ie8 when response http status code is set to some error code(422)

    I am making a requset to a web service that sends custom error with proper HTTP header when I notice some validation error, this works fine in chrome and mozilla as things always do and then it broke in ie8 as it always does! After checking the network activity, I see that ie8 is not able to get response body when HTTP code is other that 200(or at-least it seems so). In groovy I am returning error like : render(status: 422, contentType: 'TEXT', text: ((errors as JSON) as String)) Is there a way I could somehow get ie8 to read in the response body, or as an alternative I might be able to set response header but before trying that I was wondering if you guys have already seen this issue and know a solution to it.     I updated to IE8 the other day on my Vista laptop, mostly because Windows Update kept bugging me about it. As a Chrome user, I don't really care so much about IE8, but I do have to use it occaisionally to test website compatibility. At any rate, flash seems to be completely deactivated, and I don't see a place to re-enable it anywhere in the preferences. I've done a bit of googling on the issue, but only found information about how to disable flash, not how to actually enable it. I have the flash 10 debug player installed, and it works fine with Chrome and Firefox. What could be the matter?

    We use self signed certificates on our intranet. What do I need to do to get IE8 to accept them without showing an error message to the user? What we did for IE7 apparently isn't working. EDIT: IE7 wouldn't show any errors if I put the certificate into trusted root certification authorities. IE8 seems to show errors even with the certificate there.

    Now that Google finally allows searching over HTTPS, I switched all my browsers to use https://google.com by default (I documented my effort in my blog). The only browser I couldn't change the URL string in, is IE8. You can either add, remove, or change the priority of a search provider - as far as I've seen. It can't correctly display fading semi-transparent PNG file. You can clearly see it when you use show/hide function in jQuery with semi-transparent PNG file. The background of image is displayed with non-transparent black color. Do you have any idea for solve this question by using jQuery. Update Let's see my testing As you see, IE8 always incorrectly displays PNG-24 image. Moreover, IE8 still correctly display PNG-8 image when I fade(jQuery.fadeOut function) it only.   • Why do firefox/chrome show a different page than IE8?

    When I look at this published Google Docs document, I see the latest version with Firefox and Chrome, but an older version with IE8. Also, screen-scraping it via PHP/Curl gives me an older version. I've tried CTRL-Refresh in IE8 but I can't get it to show me the newest version. No matter what headers I try to change in PHP/Curl, I can't get it to show me the newest version. What am I not understanding about browsers/headers/caching here? How can it be that different browsers show different contents of one page?

The Add Sites Dialog box, does not seem to take entries for files on the local drive. I have tried: file://C:\something.html file:\\localhost\c$\something.html I have seen other solutions (on superuser and elsewhere) such Mark of Web, that allow your local file to be treated as if it were part of the internet zone, but I want to add my file to the Trusted Zone.     The computer is Windows XP Professional SP3 with IE8. On the Tools Options Connections the "Settings" is GRAYED OUT (I am an admin on the machine) Any browsing of https:// addresses results in IE displaying the following: "this program cannot display the web page" After installing an alternate browser and trying the same https:// address I get a similar error message. I have tried using Compatibility View Settings to for all web pages and this has no effect on the problem. HTTP addresses work fine, I can PING sites such as google.com without issue. Question: What could be preventing me from getting at the settings to check to see if I'm using a proxy? What else could be preventing HTTPS access?

    We have four different machines that all have "Empty Temporary Internet Files when browser is closed" set to true (checked) in IE8's Internet Options (located under the Security section in the Advanced tab). No one remembers checking that checkbox to turn on the setting. What is the default value supposed to be? I'm specifically interested in Windows 7 and Windows XP. I have run rsop.msc on one of the corporate machines—3 of the 4 are members of a corporate network/domain—and see this under User Configuration, which makes the current scenario seem even stranger: The Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) also shows the Configure Delete Browsing History on exit setting to be Not configured (under Computer ConfigurationAdministrative TemplatesWindows ComponentsInternet ExplorerDelete Browsing History).

    Hello, I ask because I'm running an application in which I load an external script file in the HEAD section of the page, and then attempt to call a function from it in the onLoad section of the BODY tag. external.js function someFunction() { alert("Some message"); } myPage.html <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" src="external.js"></script> </head> <body onLoad="someFunction();"> </body> </html> Using the developer tools in IE8, I get an exception thrown at the onLoad statement because, apparently, the external javascript file hasn't been loaded yet. I haven't had this problem come up in IE7 before, thus my question. Did they change the load order between IE7 and IE8? If so, is there a better way to do this? (the real function references many other functions and constants, which look much better in an external file) Thanks, B.J.
