  I have a CentOS 5.5 server hosted in a remote data center. I usually access this server from a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 server using the ssh command. Now my organization has implemented a proxy server, this is not allowing me to connect to the VPS server. I see the following error using the command root@<ip address>:-: ssh: connect to host <ip address> PORT 22: connection refused. Can anybody help me with this issue?

  I have written a stored procedure in MSSQL Server 2008 R2 which sends emails when my Application logs errors. It works fine on servers at our office but when I ran it on our remote servers I got must issue a starttls command first So maybe there is a setting somewhere which is different between the two servers, and that's why it's working on one and not the other. How do I set the server so that it issues a "starttls commaned first"?

  I have an issue with the ACL configuration of an LDAP server (slapd). The following ACL entry is active as the first rule that applies: {0}to dn.subtree="ou=some,ou=where,ou=beneath,dc=the,dc=rain,dc=bow" attrs=entry,children by users write Now the strange thing that happens is that given that rule I can add an entry to the respective DN but if I want to modify it with the very same user, then I get 0x32 (LDAP_INSUFFICIENT_ACCESS) Can someone give me a hint what the problem could be?

• Rails /tmp/cache/assets permissions issue using Debian virtual machine hosted on OS X Lion

  I am running Parallels Desktop 7 on OS X Lion. I have a VM with Debian installed, and inside that VM I setup a Rails development environment. I am using Parallels Tools to share out my OS X home directory to the VM - the goal here is to run the Rails server on the VM, but host the files on OS X (so they are automatically backed up, and so I can use tools like Textmate to develop with). Everything seems to work with the shared directory - my Debian user can read, write, and execute files. However, when I cloned a recent Rails project from Git, I got an error message when it tried to compile the CSS assets. My symptoms are exactly the same as in the question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7556774/rails-sprocket-error-compiling-css-assest-chown-issue I believe this is permissions-based, but it is really weird. My entire Rails project directory has permissions set to 777 and my Debian user owns it. If I navigate into /tmp/cache/assets, those permissions are the same. However, the three-character directories Rails is creating (DCE, DA1, D05, etc...) are being created without write permissions! If I refresh the Rails page a few times, about 4 or 5 (with Rails creating new three-character directories every time), eventually it will create one of the directories with the proper 777 permissions and everything will work! This will persist until I make a change to the CSS files and it has to recompile. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here? I can't fathom why it is creating temp directories with incorrect permissions, or why after a few refreshes the good permissions kick in and it works... It definitely seems to be an issue with the share, since if I move the project into a different directory on the VM, it seems to work fine. On the OS X side, I've given the shared folder 777 permissions as well, but no dice...any ideas? Update I've found that the number of times I need to refresh before it works is not random - it has to do with how many assets are being compiled. For example, if I edit one of my CSS files, and there are four CSS files in the app/assets/stylesheets directory, I have to refresh four times before the app will finally work without the operation not permitted error...

  I'm trying to run a Maintenance Cleanup Task to remove .bak files older than 2 days (simple enough). Been trying all variety of .bak, BAK, .*., and editing the path, but the files are still not getting removed even though I receive a "job succeeded" log message. I'm not at the point where I believe it's a folder permission issue. How do I make sure my SA has the proper permissions to remove files from a folder? Thanks.

Is there any solution for this issue? or other reason to make it happened?

• Multi-accordion help (CSS issue maybe?)

  So, I've been trying to develop this multi-accordion news section for this site. It's actually all working, thanks to an insightful plugin. I've modified it a little bit so it works as I want it to, but I've run into two issues, one which is possibly CSS. Issue #1: The idea for the user is that when they view this page, they see all the recent headlines. They can also see who it has been posted by and how many comments have been made to this article. If they wish, they can then click on the headline and the field will expand into the article. They can then either make a comment or view the comments via clicking the View Comments link or clicking the "number of comments" link in the "Posted by..." area (a shortcut to the comments basically). The problem I'm having is if I make the AUTHOR or the "0" comments a link, it breaks the accordion because the accordion uses an A CLASS to open it up. I'm looking for a fix, I've tried making it a H1 or a DIV but that also breaks it. Issue #2: This is a pretty picky one, but when you click the headline it expands, but at least in Firefox (haven't tested it in Chrome yet) the text jumps from the right and to the left, locking in place from which the CSS tells it to (padding-left). I don't know why it's exactly doing that, if anyone has any insight on that, it'd be appreciated. A two-parter to this issue is when you open the Headline to the article and then decide to close the article by clicking on the Headline, parts of the accordion jumps from the darker purple to the light purple before the task is finished. I'm also interested fixing this, but this issue in its entirety are all pretty nit picky things. • Intel Rapid Storage / Smart Response SSD caching issue

  Background Recently built my own PC. It works! Almost. It's been a while since getting into the guts of these things, so I'm familiar but may be missing something simple. FYI, I don't care about blowing the OS away -- it's brand new and we can go back from scratch as many times as necessary. Goal / Issue I'd like to use the SSD to take advantage of Intel's Smart Response technology (allows the SSD to act as a cache for HDDs) I would like the SSD cache to act as a cache for my HDDs, which I would like to be in a RAID1 array (so I get the speed from the SSD and the redundancy from the RAID1) However, Windows only sees the drive in device manager (not as a drive), so I'm unsure what to do about that. Related: as far as I know, for this to work, the drives all have to be in a single RAID array (i.e. a RAID0 pairing of the SSD and the RAID1 HDD array). However, when attempting this at the BIOS level, I am told there is not enough space for an array. Steps so Far Moved the SSD onto the Intel controller (I'd had it on the Marvel 6.0 controller instead of the Intel controller, so the BIOS was only seeing it in a strange way) Updated the BIOS of the motherboard to the latest version Reinstalled Intel's RST (iRST?) software several times, as some forums reported it working after reinstalling 3 times (which does not inspire confidence). Checked Intel storage: it does see the SSD as a physical, non-RAID device. However, it says no space exists if I try to create an array. Checked the BIOS: it does not show up in the boot order, but is an option that can be selected under boot options. Tried the firmware update for that model. Issue: the firmware CD doesn't detect a drive; maybe the Intel storage controller is making it difficult? moved the ssd to the marvel controller. The firmware update cd appeared to hang while searching for drives. swapped out the SATA cable for the manufacturer's and moved back to the intel storage controller. Noticed at this point that in the Intel RST software, a device DOES show up in addition to the RAID set -- only shown as a "60 GB internal disk". Windows doesn't appear to see it as a drive, but it does still show in device manager. Move SSD to port from 0-3 on MOBO and set SATA mode to IDE (after disconnecting RAID1 config) to allow the firmware update to work. Firmware was already at the latest version. Next Steps ? After that it is not updating the log file. then we do touch cmd on log4j.xml, so that it creates the log files again. Please help me in fixing the issue we cant do touch everytine. we face this issue in both the nodes. thanks, balaji

• Grails and PermGen issue with g:link and g:render

  I've been running grails for sometime without any issues but recently after an upgrade to Grails 1.1.1, I've encountered the dreaded PermGen errors. Prior to the upgrade, no such issue. The error seems to be happening when the <g:link> and <g:render> tags are used in a GSP although I'm not sure it's indicative that this is the issue but more of the fact that it ran out of space when these tags were being rendered. Typically, everyone who encounters PermGen errors recommend increasing your java environment options -- but what maybe the source of the issue? Is it a Grails 1.1/hibernate/spring problem? • Blackberry wifi connection issue

  Hi all, I have a very strange issue with my blackberry application. My application first searches for a blackberry network ( ;interface=wifi , ;deviceside=true , ;deviceside=false" + ";ConnectionUID="+ myRecord.getUid() ) transport and after finding one, it uses it to connect the server application. The issue is that some of my web services consumed by the bb client applicaton does not work when the connection type is wifi. Example: I have a series of web services called one after the other, login , x , y ,z, and logout. The connection transport selected = WIFI Login and LogOfff works fine but x, y and z web services return me an error message. The same series of web services ( Login, x,y,z, Log Out,) works with other connection transports ( eg. ap2trans) . Please help me with this issue as connecting to wifi ( if available ) is important for the application. Pleaes provide even the smallest info in this regad. thanks in advance

The install goes fine, but when running the SharePoint Configuration Wizard, it fails at stage 6 of 12 with the error: Failed to register SharePoint Services. An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown. Additional exception information: Cannot start service ProjectEventService on computer '.'. From the PSCDiagnostics log: Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot start service ProjectEventService on computer '.'. --- System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. The ProjectEventService (Microsoft Office Project Server Event) won't even start manually using the Network Service account. Starting the service with a domain account works, but subsequently running the Config Wizard causes the service to be removed and re-provisioned to run using the Network Service account, which again fails. Presumably Network Service needs elevated permissions, but even adding it to the local Admin group makes no difference. Anyone come across this sort of issue before?

• SOLVED: network issue ubuntu 8.04 in vmware esx

  ok, this is really pissing me off I have one ubuntu 8.04 instance running on vmware (esx) which decided after a reboot to stop resolving dns requests, I also cant connect to it using ssh although I can ping the server and its really that server (when I shutdown the server the ping also stops) stuff I tried: - reboot again :) - nslookup - serverip - setting networking to dhcp - offering some cute kittens to lucifer - removing the virtual nic and adding another (to get a different mac) - migrating the instance to another esx host - drinking 20 cups of espresso - stopped all services - running dnsmasq on another server and connecting to that dns - tcpdumping - disabling ip6 symptoms: cant resolve anything nslookup just says "no servers found..." although I can ping the servers traceroute to gateway doesnt work (even with traceroute -4 -n gatewayip) collegues laughing at me any thoughts solved it: a collegue told me to upgrade/reinstall the vmware tools, I did and it solved my issue after rebooting

• CentOS 5.5 APIC issue on ESX 4.1 & ML115

  Hi, I've just installed vSphere 4.1 on an HP ProLiant ML115 G5 Quad-core and am trying to install CentOS 5.5 as a guest system. However, when the guest boots up I get a calibrate_APIC_clock warning and a kernel panic message. I've come across this knowledge base article on the vmware website which suggests moving the guest onto another Intel based host (!). Funnily enough I don't have a collection of spare host servers sitting around, so can anyone suggest another solution? Alternatively, would installing an earlier version of CentOS get around this issue, or would a yum update put me back to square one? How about BIOS settings, could anything be tweaked there? Thanks.

• Microsoft DNS/DHCP using DDNS - Domain Suffix issue

  I have an issue with our Microsoft DNS server, we're getting the dreaded "DNS Update Failed" in the DHCP logs. We have two forward lookup zones, blah.com and somethingelse.com - blah.com is the one I want the workstations/DHCP to dynamically update. However, I can only get it to work if I specify blah.com as the domain suffix in the network connection properties. I can think of two possible solutions, but have no idea how to implement them or if they're possible: 1) Designate a blah.com as the "default" zone somehow on the DNS server, so all updates are sent to that zone unless the client's domain suffix is somethingelse.com 2) Use DHCP option 15, which sets the domain suffix. - We're currently doing that, but it doesn't seem to take it into account when updating DNS. Can anyone please shed some light? Thank you.

• diagnostic multicast issue using wireshark

  I have a network that is setup for multicast traffic. My setup is the following -Machine A : a server generates multicast traffic. -Machine A : few clients subscribing to that multicast traffic -Machine B : few clients subscribing to that multicast traffic # Address I am using IP : 239.193.0.21 PORT: 20401 The clients in machine A , even if they join the group (I can see IGMP messages through wireshark), don't receive any data while (and this is the funny part) machine B,C and D receive everything. I sorted that issue by completely disabling Linux firewall. Before doing that, I enabled the multicast on the firwall ('reject all'). iptables -A INPUT -m addrtype --src-type MULTICAST -j ACCEPT My question is the following: what I can check in wireshark that can help me in spot such firewall issues in the futures? For TCP/IP I realize by using ping and looking at ICMP packets rejected. What I can check/monitor for multicast? I am using LInux/Red-Hat Enterprise 6.2

• HP Pavilion dv6000 graphics issue

  A few days ago my laptop seized up on me while I was playing a game. When I restarted the computer, it sent me back to 640x480 resolution with 16 colors (clearly a graphical issue). In device manager, it shows an error, stating "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" regarding the video card. Upon removing and re-installing the drivers using both Windows Update and my own searching through nvidia's site, it's given me zero results. For kicks, I ran my antivirus (you never know!) and registry cleaner to see if anything would turn up. The antivirus found nothing, but CCleaner found 27 registry errors all dealing with my video card. What could be the cause of this, and what course of action would you recommend in this situation?
