  • XPath Trouble with getting attributes

    - by Travis
I'm having a bit of trouble with some XML in Java. The following is the result of an API call to EVE Online. How can I get the "name" and "characterID" for each row? Frankly I just have no idea where to start with this one, so please don't ask for extra information. I just gotta know how to get those attributes. <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <eveapi version="1"> <currentTime>2007-12-12 11:48:50</currentTime> <result> <rowset name="characters" key="characterID" columns="name, characterID,corporationName, corporationID"> <row name="Mary" characterID="150267069" corporationName="Starbase Anchoring Corp" corporationID="150279367" /> <row name="Marcus" characterID="150302299" corporationName="Marcus Corp" corporationID="150333466" /> <row name="Dieinafire" characterID="150340823" corporationName="Center for Advanced Studies" corporationID="1000169" /> </rowset> </result> <cachedUntil>2007-12-12 12:48:50</cachedUntil> </eveapi>

On this panel this year we had Michael Wells from Raymond James, Joy Mathew and Venki Govindarajan from Comcast, and Serkan Karatas from Turk Telekom. Our panelists have a great mix of experiences and all are passionate about using Oracle Data Integration products to solve very complex use cases. Each panelist was given a ten minute to overview their use of our product, followed by a barrage of questions from the audience. Michael Wells spoke about using Oracle GoldenGate for heterogeneous real time replication from HP (Tandem) NonStop to SQL Server and emphasized the need for using standard naming conventions for when customers configure GoldenGate, as the practices is immensely helpful when debugging a problem. Joy Mathew and Venkat Govindarajan from Comcast described how they have used GoldenGate for over a decade and their experiences of using the product for replicating data from HP nonstop to Terdata. Serkan Karatas from Turk Telekom dove into using Oracle GoldenGate and the value of archiving data in extremely large databases, which in Turk Telekoms case resulted in a 1 month ROI for the entire project. Thanks again to our panelist and audience participants for making the session interactive and informative.  For Wednesday we have a number of sessions available to attendees plus two hands-on labs, which I have listed below.   If you are unable to attend our hands-on lab for Oracle GoldenGate Veridata, it is available online at youtube.com. • TeamSpeak 3 Disconnects

    - by ArchUser
I've recently had a few random TS3 mass disconnects and I'm am curious to know where I may find any applications that can help me determine the cause of any types of TS3 server disconnections as we plan on having many more users in the future. I run an almost empty VPS (OpenVZ) server with an ArchLinux template on it. • How do I add a toolbar to a region with ExtJS

    - by gargantaun
I have a border layout in ExtJS, The north region contains some HTML, but also needs to contain a toolbar like this... So i've managed to get the border layout set up, added the html to the North Region of the layout, but I can't find any workable examples of how to implement a tool bar. I have found lot's of examples of toolbars on their own, but I've not got the luxury or learning ExtJs thoroughly so it's all greek to me. I suspect there's a way to define a tool bar outside of the cumbersome JSON style flow of creating a layout and somehow attaching it to the region, and I'm hoping it's relativley simple to do. If someone can explain how I'd do this, it would really help. Here's the code so far... //make sure YOUR path is correct to this image!! Ext.BLANK_IMAGE_URL = '../../ext-2.0.2/resources/images/default/s.gif'; //this runs on DOM load - you can access all the good stuff now. Ext.onReady(function(){ var viewport = new Ext.Viewport({ layout: "border", border: false, renderTo: Ext.getBody(), items: [ // ------------------------------------------------------------------ { region: "north", id : "toolbar-area", xtype: 'panel', html: [ "<div id=\"html-header\">", "<div id=\"council-logo\"></div>", "<ul id=\"ancillary-menu\">", "<li><a href=\"#\">Logout</a></li>", "<li><a href=\"#\">Gazeteer Home</a></li>", "<li>Hello Rachel</li>", "</ul>", "<img id=\"inteligent-logo\" src=\"applied-images/logos/inteligent.gif\">", "</div>" ], /* ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ */ /* The toolbar needs to go around here.... */ /* ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ */ height: 100 }, // ------------------------------------------------------------------ // WEST // ------------------------------------------------------------------ { region: 'west', xtype: 'panel', split: true, resizeable: false, maxWidth : 350, minWidth : 349, collapsible: true, title: 'Gazetteer Explorer', width: 350, minSize: 150, // -------------------------------------------------------------- title: 'Nested Layout', layout: 'border', border: false, id: "west", items: [ { // *********************************************** // Search Form // *********************************************** region : "north", height: 300, split : true, id : "left-form-panel", items : [{ xtype : "form", id : "search-form", items : [ // Authority combo box // =============================== { xtype : "combo", fieldLabel : "Authority", name : "authority", hiddenName : "authority", id : "authority-combo" }, // =============================== // Search Fieldset // =============================== { xtype : "fieldset", autoHeight : true, title : "Search by...", id : "search-fieldset", items : [ // Ref Number text Box // %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% { xtype : "textfield", name : "ref-number", fieldLabel : "Ref. • Google Streetview under V3 Code having hiccups and delays

    - by jeffkee
http://new.brocksmeaton.com/showlisting.php/196/-7210-Arbutus-Place-Whytecliff-West-Vancouver-west-vancouver-real-estate The really odd thing is I had this working yesterday and today it's not working. I'm using jQuery UI to switch the tabs on the location map/street view module. I've recently upgraded the Google Maps code as well as the Google Streetview code to version 3. So when I open it in Firefox, with Firebug on, as soon as I switch to the Streetview tab, the navigation and zoom in out controls show, but nothing shows.. and then when I try to drag the map around, it does not move around, but instead, causes errors in Firebug: "too much recursion". So it causes the whole browser to become buggy, slows down, and the errors happen, and nothing shows on the streetview pane. Most of the map loading code is located in inline Javascript on the page itself. Some of the code is under showlisting.js <script type="text/javascript" src="/js/showlisting.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> // Call this function when the page has been loaded function loadmap() { var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(49.374918567425475, -123.28996885871596); var myOptions = { zoom: 14, center: latlng, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP }; var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('listingmap'), myOptions); var listingicon = '/images/activehouse.png'; var infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow(); homemarker = new google.maps.Marker({position: latlng, map: map, icon: listingicon}); google.maps.event.addListener(homemarker, 'click', function() { infowindow.setContent('<div style="height:80px; width:250px; color:#333;"><p>7210 Arbutus Place<br />Whytecliff, West Vancouver</div>') infowindow.open(map, homemarker); }); } function loadpano() { var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(49.374918567425475, -123.28996885871596); $('#listingpanorama').slideDown(500, function() { var panoramaOptions = { addressControl:false, position: latlng, pov: { heading: 34, pitch: 30, zoom: 1 } }; var panorama = new google.maps.StreetViewPanorama(document.getElementById('listingpanorama'), panoramaOptions); }); return false; } </script> My old one under GOogle API Version 2 is here FYI if you want to take a look at it: http://demo.brixwork.com/master/showlisting.php/63/1701-388-Drake-Street-False-Creek-North-Vancouver-

  • How to calculate short & long distance via Haversine?

    - by Jeroen
Hi, I am looking for a way to calculate the distance between 2 points on the globe. We've been told to use Haversine, which works fine to calculate the shortest distance between the 2 points. Now, I'd like to calculate the "long distance" between to points. So suppose you have 2 cities, A in the west and B in the east. I want to know the distance from B to A if I would travel eastwards around the globe and then reach A coming from the west. I've tried changing a couple of things in the haversine function, but doesn't seem to work. Anyone know how I can simply do this using small adjustments to the haversine function? This is what I'm using now: lat1, lat2, lng1, lng2 are in radians part1 = sin(lat2) * sin(lat1); part2 = cos(lat2) * cos(lat1) * cos(lng1 - lng2); distance = EARTH_RADIUS * acos(part1 + part2); Tnx Jeroen

  • A small, intra-app Object to String Serializer

    - by Rick Strahl
On a few occasions I've needed a very compact serializer for small and simple, flat object serialization, typically for storage in Cookies or a FormsAuthentication ticket in ASP.NET. XML and JSON serialization are too verbose for those scenarios so a simple property serializer that strings together the values was needed. Originally I did this by hand, but here is a class that automates the process.

  • Building a better .NET Application Configuration Class - revisited

    - by Rick Strahl
Managing configuration settings is an important part of successful applications. It should be easy to ensure that you can easily access and modify configuration values within your applications. If it's not - well things don't get parameterized as much as they should. In this post I discuss a custom Application Configuration class that makes it super easy to create reusable configuration objects in your applications using a code-first approach and the ability to persist configuration information into various types of configuration stores.

  • A first look at SignalR

    - by Rick Strahl
Last month I finally had a chance to use SignalR in a live project for the first time, and I've been impressed by what this technology offers to .NET developers. It's easy to use and provides rich real-time two way messaging between client and server applications, as well as the ability to broadcast message to all connected clients. This is technology that offers many opportunities to rethink of what we can build with Web applications.

  • Use IIS Application Initialization for keeping ASP.NET Apps alive

    - by Rick Strahl
Ever want to run a service-like, always-on application inside of ASP.NET instead of creating a Windows Service or running a Console application? Need to make sure that your ASP.NET application is always running and comes up immediately after an Application Pool restart even if nobody hits your site? The IIS Application Initialization Module provides this functionality in IIS 7 and later, making it much easier to create always-on ASP.NET applications that can act like a service.

  • Dynamically loading Assemblies to reduce Runtime Dependencies

    - by Rick Strahl
Using a static language like C# tends to work with hard assembly bindings for everything. But what if you want only want to provide an assembly optionally, if the functionality is actually used by the user? In this article I discuss a scenario where dynamic loading and activation made sense for me and show the code required to activate and use components loaded at runtime using Reflection and dynamic in combination.

  • Routing to a Controller with no View in Angular

    - by Rick Strahl
Angular provides a nice routing, and controller to view model that makes it easy to create sophisticated JavaScript views fairly easily. But Angular's views are destroyed and re-rendered each time they are activated - what if you need to work with a persisted view that's too expensive to re-render? Here's how to build a headless controller that doesn't render a view through Angular, but rather manages the the view or markup manually.

  • Checking out the Helios IIS Owin Web Server Host

    - by Rick Strahl
During last week's MVP summit Microsoft showed a new light weight, Owin host called Helios, that can run directly on the IIS core without using the ASP.NET Runtime. It's light weight and fast, and offers a glimpse into where Microsoft is heading for building a more nimble and componentized runtime that is bound to be more flexible and agile. In this post I describe how to set up Helios to play around with and some of the implications it brings.

  • Having Fun with Roughriders

    - by D'Arcy Lussier
So I’m in Regina for a conference, and I happen to notice that some RoughRiders (Weston Dressler, Wes Cates, and Marcus Adams) are going to be signing autographs at the local SaskTel store on Thursday. So a plan gets hatched, and I call my buddy Mike who hasn’t left Winnipeg yet and have him pick up my Alouette jersey from home. My buddy Dylan who was here too happened to bring his Bomber jersey. And so we set off on our adventure: to get three Saskatchewan Roughrider players to autograph a calculator (cause, y’know…tough counting to 13 and all). Below is the footage. And continued… And here’s the autographed calculator: Thanks for being good sports guys! D Technorati Tags: CFL,Roughriders,Alouettes

  • how do i return arraylist from a function?

Hi guys, I learnt example from msdn to populate a listbox control with arraylist. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/1818w7we(v=VS.100).aspx I want to create a function which will give return the USStates arraylist and use the returned value as datasource for listbox1 Dim USStates As New ArrayList() USStates.Add(New USState("Alabama", "AL")) USStates.Add(New USState("Washington", "WA")) USStates.Add(New USState("West Virginia", "WV")) USStates.Add(New USState("Wisconsin", "WI")) USStates.Add(New USState("Wyoming", "WY")) ListBox1.DataSource = USStates ListBox1.DisplayMember = "LongName" ListBox1.ValueMember = "ShortName I tried creating a function like: Public Shared Function FillList() As ArrayList() Dim USStates As New ArrayList() USStates.Add(New USState("Alabama", "AL")) USStates.Add(New USState("Washington", "WA")) USStates.Add(New USState("West Virginia", "WV")) USStates.Add(New USState("Wisconsin", "WI")) USStates.Add(New USState("Wyoming", "WY")) return usstates end function but it says error: Value of type 'System.Collections.ArrayList' cannot be converted to '1-dimensional array of System.Collections.ArrayList'.

  • Getting ID of an instance newly launched with ec2-api-tools

    - by Jonik
I'm launching an EC2 instance, by invoking ec2-run-instances from simple a bash script, and want to perform further operations on that instance (e.g. associate elastic IP), for which I need the instance id. The command is something like ec2-run-instances ami-dd8ea5a9 -K pk.pem -C cert.pem --region eu-west-1 -t c1.medium -n 1, and its output: RESERVATION r-b6ea58c1 696664755663 default INSTANCE i-945af9e3 ami-dd8ea5b9 pending 0 c1.medium 2010-04-15T10:47:56+0000 eu-west-1a aki-b02a01c4 ari-39c2e94d In this example, i-945af9e3 is the id I'm after. So, I'd need a simple way to parse the id from what the command returns - how would you go about doing it? My AWK is a little rusty... Feel free to use any tool available on a typical Linux box. (If there's a way to get it directly using EC2-API-tools, all the better. But afaik there's no EC2 command to e.g. return the id of the most recently launched instance.)

  • Angularjs wait until

    - by Diolor
I have: $scope.bounds = {} And later in my code: $scope.$on('leafletDirectiveMap.load', function(){ console.log('runs'); Dajaxice.async.hello($scope.populate, { 'west' : $scope.bounds.southWest.lng, 'east': $scope.bounds.northEast.lng, 'north' : $scope.bounds.northEast.lat, 'south': $scope.bounds.southWest.lat, }); }); The bounds as you can see at the begging they are empty but they are loaded later (some milliseconds) with a javascript library (leaflet angular). However the $scope.$on(...) runs before the bounds have been set so the 'west' : $scope.bounds.southWest.lng, returns an error with an undefined variable. What I want to do is to wait the bounds (southWest and northEast) to have been set and then run the Dajaxice.async.hello(...). So I need something like "wait until bounds are set".

  • Nuget Dependencies and latest Versions

    - by Rick Strahl
NuGet is a great component distribution mechanism and it's awesome for consuming components and getting them into projects. However, creating NuGet packages and getting the version dependencies worked out reliably has been a challenge. Specifically the way dependency versions are pulled in by NuGet are somewhat counterintuitive. In this post I look at some of the issues and bring up some thoughts of how this could work better.
