  • Implementation of a general-purpose object structure (property bag)

    - by Thomas Wanner
We need to implement some general-purpose object structure, much like an object in dynamic languages, that would give us a possibility of creating the whole object graph on-the-fly. This class has to be serializable and somehow user friendly. So far we have made some experiments with class derived from Dictionary<string, object> using the dot notation path to store properties and collections in the object tree. We have also find an article that implements something similar, but it doesn't seem to fit completely into our picture either. Do you know about some good implementations / libraries that deal with a similar problem or do you have any (non-trivial) ideas that could help us with our own implementation ? Also, I probably have to say that we are using .NET 3.5, so we can't take advantage of the new features in .NET 4.0 like dynamic type etc. (as far as I know it's also not possible to use any subset of it in .NET 3.5 solution).

  • accessing embedded object with jquery not working in firefox 3.6

    - by taber
Hi, this code in my plugin used to work just fine: jQuery('#embedded_obj', context).get(0).getVersion(); and in html... <object id="embedded_obj" type="application/x-versionchecker-1.0.0.1"</object Basically trying to get the properties from an embedded object. But it looks like get(0) is returning an html object instead of the actual embedded object. For example, if I do: var launcher = jQuery('#embedded_obj', context).get(0); for(prop in launcher){ alert(prop + ': ' + launcher[prop]); } ... it alerts things like "getElementByNode," "scrollWidth," "clientLeft," "clientTop" etc. Again this worked before Firefox 3.6. Has anyone else seen this or have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

  • differences between using wmode="transparent", "opaque", "window" for an embedded object on webpage

    - by Jian Lin
when embedding a Flash object with the <object and <embed tag, there is an attribute called "wmode". It seems that most of the time, wmode="transparent" is the same as wmode="opaque" as the Flash doesn't actually have any transparent color so that the bottom HTML element is to be shown. As a result, "opaque" should be faster than "transparent" since it require less processing for transparency, yet most of the time i see Flash object embedded with "transparent" instead of "opaque". "opaque" is needed so that other HTML element won't be covered up by the Flash object. (such as a menu item that pops up an extra sub-menu won't be covered up by the Flash object). By the way, is there formal documentation for wmode's "opaque", "transparent", and "window"? I was only able to find blogs that describe it but not the formal documentation. thanks.

  • Java StringTokenizer, empty null tokens

    - by user69514
    I am trying to split a string into 29 tokens..... stringtokenizer won't return null tokens. I tried string.split, but I believe I am doing something wrong: String [] strings = line.split(",", 29); sample inputs: 10150,15:58,23:58,16:00,00:00,15:55,23:55,15:58,00:01,16:03,23:58,,,,,16:00,23:22,15:54,00:03,15:59,23:56,16:05,23:59,15:55,00:01,,,, 10155,,,,,,,,,,,07:30,13:27,07:25,13:45,,,,,,,,,,,07:13,14:37,08:01,15:23 10160,10:00,16:02,09:55,16:03,10:06,15:58,09:48,16:07,09:55,16:00,,,,,09:49,15:38,10:02,16:04,10:00,16:00,09:58,16:01,09:57,15:58,,,,

  • High performance text file parsing in .net

    - by diamandiev
Here is the situation: I am making a small prog to parse server log files. I tested it with a log file with several thousand requests (between 10000 - 20000 don't know exactly) What i have to do is to load the log text files into memory so that i can query them. This is taking the most resources. The methods that take the most cpu time are those (worst culprits first): string.split - splits the line values into a array of values string.contains - checking if the user agent contains a specific agent string. (determine browser ID) string.tolower - various purposes streamreader.readline - to read the log file line by line. string.startswith - determine if line is a column definition line or a line with values there were some others that i was able to replace. For example the dictionary getter was taking lots of resources too. Which i had not expected since its a dictionary and should have its keys indexed. I replaced it with a multidimensional array and saved some cpu time. Now i am running on a fast dual core and the total time it takes to load the file i mentioned is about 1 sec. Now this is really bad. Imagine a site that has tens of thousands of visits a day. It's going to take minutes to load the log file. So what are my alternatives? If any, cause i think this is just a .net limitation and i can't do much about it.

  • Scope of object properties & methods

    - by Anish
In the article Show love to the object literal, it's said: When we have several scripts in a page, the global variables & functions will get overwritten if their name repeats. One solution is to make the variables as properties & functions as methods of an object, and access them via the object name. But will this prevent the issue of variables getting into the global namespace? <script> var movie = { name: "a", trailer: function(){ //code } }; </script> In the above code which elements gets added to the global namespace? a) Just the object name - movie b) Object name as well as the properties and methods inside it – movie, movie.name, movie.trailer()

I'm trying to converting char array to string, but the last two attempts don't work. Other source I found and they have to create new string type, but I don't know why. Can someone give me little explaination, thanks.

  • Extracting URLs (to array) in Ruby

    - by FearMediocrity
Good afternoon, I'm learning about using RegEx's in Ruby, and have hit a point where I need some assistance. I am trying to extract 0 to many URLs from a string. This is the code I'm using: sStrings = ["hello world: http://www.google.com", "There is only one url in this string http://yahoo.com . Did you get that?", "The first URL in this string is http://www.bing.com and the second is http://digg.com","This one is more complicated http://is.gd/12345 http://is.gd/4567?q=1", "This string contains no urls"] sStrings.each do |s| x = s.scan(/((http|https):\/\/[a-z0-9]+([\-\.]{1}[a-z0-9]+)*\.[a-z]{2,5}(([0-9]{1,5})?\/.[\w-]*)?)/ix) x.each do |url| puts url end end This is what is returned: http://www.google.com http .google nil nil http://yahoo.com http nil nil nil http://www.bing.com http .bing nil nil http://digg.com http nil nil nil http://is.gd/12345 http nil /12345 nil http://is.gd/4567 http nil /4567 nil What is the best way to extract only the full URLs and not the parts of the RegEx? Thanks Jim

  • Encoding a string as an integer .NET

    - by Paul Knopf
I have a string that I would like represented uniquely as an integer. For example: A3FJEI = 34950140 How would I go about writing a EncodeAsInteger(string) method. I understand that the amount of characters in the string will make the integer increase greatly, forcing the value to become a long, not an int. Since I need the value to be an integer, I don't need the numerical representation to be entirely unique to the string. Maybe I can foreach through all the characters of the string and sum the numerical keycode of the character.

  • String cannot contain any part of another string .NET 2.0

    - by Aaron
I'm looking for a simple way to discern if a string contains any part of another string (be that regex, built in function I don't know about, etc...). For Example: string a = "unicorn"; string b = "cornholio"; string c = "ornament"; string d = "elephant"; if (a <comparison> b) { // match found ("corn" from 'unicorn' matched "corn" from 'cornholio') } if (a <comparison> c) { // match found ("orn" from 'unicorn' matched "orn" from 'ornament') } if (a <comparison> d) { // this will not match } something like if (a.ContainsAnyPartOf(b)) would be too much to hope for. Also, I only have access to .NET 2.0. Thanks in advance!

  • slowly rotate an object towards another object

    - by numerical25
I have an object that points in the direction of another object (i.e. it rotates to the direction that the second objects x and y coordinates are at) below is the code I use. var distx = target.x - x; var disty = target.y - y; var angle:Number = Math.atan2(disty, distx); var vx:Number = Math.cos(angle) * cspeed; var vy:Number = Math.sin(angle) * cspeed; rotation = angle * 180/Math.PI; x += vx; y += vy; as you can see. Not only does it rotate towards the target object, but it also moves towards it too. When I play the movie, the object instantly points to the targeted object and moves towards it. I would like for it to slowly turn towards the object instead of instantly turning towards it. anyone know how to do this.

  • Using a c# .net object in an Excel VBA form

    - by Mark O'G
    Hi I have a .net object that I want to use in Excel. I have an existing VBA script that i need to alter to call this the object from. I have then converted the object to a TLB. I've not really touched on this area before so any help will be appreciated. I have created an interface [Guid("0F700B48-E0CA-446b-B87E-555BCC317D74"),InterfaceType(ComInterfaceType.InterfaceIsDual)] public interface IOfficeCOMInterface { [DispId(1)] void ResetOrder(); [DispId(2)] void SetDeliveryAddress(string PostalName, string AddressLine1, string AddressLine2, string AddressLine3, string AddressLine4, string PostCode, string CountryCode, string TelephoneNo, string FaxNo, string EmailAddress); } I have also created an class that inherits that object. [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None), ProgId("NAMESPACE.OfficeCOMInterface"), Guid("9D9723F9-8CF1-4834-BE69-C3FEAAAAB530"), ComVisible(true)] public class OfficeCOMInterface : IOfficeCOMInterface, IDisposable { public void ResetSOPOrder() { } public void SetDeliveryAddress(string PostalName, string AddressLine1, string AddressLine2, string AddressLine3, string AddressLine4, string PostCode, string CountryCode, string TelephoneNo, string FaxNo, string EmailAddress) { try { SalesOrder.AmendDeliveryAddress(PostalName, AddressLine1, AddressLine2, AddressLine3, AddressLine4, PostCode); MessageBox.Show("Delivery address set"); } catch (Exception ex) { throw ex; } } }

  • Converting the value from string to integer in a nested dictionary

    - by tom smith
I want to change the numbers in my dictionary to int values for use later in my program. So far I have import time import math x = 400 y = 300 def read_next_object(file): obj = {} for line in file: if not line.strip(): continue line = line.strip() key, val = line.split(": ") if key in obj and key == "Object": yield obj obj = {} obj[key] = val yield obj planets = {} with open( "smallsolar.txt", 'r') as f: for obj in read_next_object(f): planets[obj["Object"]] = obj print(planets) scale=250/int(max([planets[x]["Orbital Radius"] for x in planets if "Orbital Radius" in planets[x]])) print(scale) and the output is {'Sun': {'Object': 'Sun', 'Satellites': 'Mercury,Venus,Earth,Mars,Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus,Neptune,Ceres,Pluto,Haumea,Makemake,Eris', 'Orbital Radius': '0', 'RootObject': 'Sun', 'Radius': '20890260'}, 'Moon': {'Object': 'Moon', 'Orbital Radius': '18128500', 'Period': '27.321582', 'Radius': '1737000.10'}, 'Earth': {'Object': 'Earth', 'Satellites': 'Moon', 'Orbital Radius': '77098290', 'Period': '365.256363004', 'Radius': '6371000.0'}} 3.2426140709476178e-06 I want to be able to convert the numbers in the dict to ints for further use. • c# object initializer complexity. best practice

    - by Andrew Florko
I was too excited when object initializer appeared in C#. MyClass a = new MyClass(); a.Field1 = Value1; a.Field2 = Value2; can be rewritten shorter: MyClass a = new MyClass { Field1 = Value1, Field2 = Value2 } Object initializer code is more obvious but when properties number come to dozen and some of the assignment deals with nullable values it's hard to debug where the "null reference error" is. Studio shows the whole object initializer as error point. Nowadays I use object initializer for straightforward assignment only for error-free properties. How do you use object initializer for complex assignment or it's a bad practice to use dozen of assigments at all? Thank you in advance!

  • Obtaining reference to Class instance by string name - VB.NET

    - by Jeff Williams
Is it possible using Reflection or some other method to obtain a reference to a specific class instance from the name of that class instance? For example the framework for the applications i develop heavily uses public class instances such as: Public bMyreference as MyReference = new MyReference Then throughout the application bMyReference is used by custom controls and code. One of the properties of the custom controls is the "FieldName" which references a Property in these class instances (bMyReference.MyField) as a string. What i would like to be able to do is analyze this string "bMyReference.MyField" and then refer back to the actual Instance/Property. In VB6 I would use an EVAL or something simular to convert the string to an actual object but this obviously doesn't work in VB.net What I'm picturing is something like this Dim FieldName as String = MyControl.FieldName ' sets FielName to bMyReference.MyField Dim FieldObject() as String = FieldName.Split(".") ' Split into the Object / Property Dim myInstance as Object = ......... ' Obtain a reference to the Instance and set as myInstance Dim myProperty = myInstance.GetType().GetProperty(FieldObject(1))

  • PHP if string contains URL isolate it

    - by Dylan Taylor
In PHP, I need to be able to figure out if a string contains a URL. If there is a URL, I need to isolate it as another separate string. For example: "SESAC showin the Love! http://twitpic.com/1uk7fi" I need to be able to isolate the URL in that string into a new string. At the same time the URL needs to be kept intact in the original string. Follow? I know this is probably really simple but it's killing me.

  • Why is String final in Java?

    - by Alex
From when I learned that the class java.lang.String is declared as final in Java, I was wondering why is that? I didn't find any answer back then, but this post: How to create a replica of String class in Java? reminded me of my query. Sure, String provides all the functionality I ever needed, and never thought of any operation that would require an extension of class String, but still you'll never know what someone might need! So, does anyone know what was the intent of the designers when they decided to make it final? See also: Why is String a sealed class in C#?

  • Interview question: difference between object and object-oriented languages.

    - by Bar
My friend was asked the following question: what's the difference between object language and object-oriented language? It's a little unintelligible question. What does term «object language» correspond to? Does that mean «pure» object-oriented language, like the Wikipedia article says: Languages called "pure" OO languages, because everything in them is treated consistently as an object, from primitives such as characters and punctuation, all the way up to whole classes, prototypes, blocks, modules, etc. They were designed specifically to facilitate, even enforce, OO methods. Examples: Smalltalk, Eiffel, Ruby, JADE, VB.NET.

  • Is concatenating with an empty string to do a string conversion really that bad?

    - by polygenelubricants
    Let's say I have two char variables, and later on I want to concatenate them into a string. This is how I would do it: char c1, c2; // ... String s = "" + c1 + c2; I've seen people who say that the "" + "trick" is "ugly", etc, and that you should use String.valueOf or Character.toString instead. I prefer this construct because: I prefer using language feature instead of API call if possible In general, isn't the language usually more stable than the API? If language feature only hides API call, then even stronger reason to prefer it! More abstract! Hiding is good! I like that the c1 and c2 are visually on the same level String.valueOf(c1) + c2 suggests something is special about c1 It's shorter. Is there really a good argument why String.valueOf or Character.toString is preferrable to "" +? Trivia: in java.lang.AssertionError, the following line appears 7 times, each with a different type: this("" + detailMessage);
