'sftp' is seriously lacking relative to, say, ncftp: it has no command memory, no Tab-completion of file names, and so on. Is there a non-GUI tool for SFTP that people recommend?
Let me start off by mentioning I am really really new to this whole VMWare ESX/vSphere thing, so apologies if this is a FAQ or asked a million times before using better wording. Also, please correct me if I'm using the wrong terms all over the place.
We just got this brand new VMWare EXS server, and we started importing virtual machines from around the office. Some of them were originally based on VMWare, others are converted from MS Virtual Server.
One of these machines needs a bigger disk, but in the vSphere Client the disk size spinedit is disabled. Disk type is thick. However, for other machines, with the same disk type, the spinedit is enabled and I can happily resize their disks.
So here is the question: why can't I resize this disk in particular?
All machines are freshly converted, so I assume there are no snapshots yet, which I read would stop a resize from happening (again, correct me if I'm wrong).
I'm running ubuntu 11.04 with an LSI 9211-8i in IT mode with the latest firmware (10). I'm using KVM with VT-d enabled to pass the entire PCIe device through to the guest OS. I have the device disabled in the system BIOS.
When I boot my virtual machine, the adapter quits during bios initialization with the following error:
Unable to load LSI Corporation MPT BIOS
MPT BIOS Fault 0Ch encountered at adapter PCI(00h,04h,00h)
Press any key to continue...
I know the virtualization is correctly enabled. I've blacklisted the kernel modules in the host OS.
Has anyone else encountered this error? I'm about out of ideas here.
Edit:
I contacted LSI tech support about this, and they suggested that I try RedHat and Xen. Apparently they don't test or support anything else.
I configured iis7 ftp to allow ssl connections. I set the ssl firewall to use ports 50000-50050.
If I set up a custom service on my fortigate firewall for ftps with source ports 990-50050 and destination ports 990-50050, set it to a firewall policy and connect from a client it connects and works successfully.
If I create a service FTPS Control with source port 990 and destination port 990 and another service,FTP Data with source ports 50000-50050 and destination ports 50000-50050 add them to a group FTPSSL, replace the ftps policy with FTPSSL and try connecting it tries to connect to port 990 and eventually times out.
Is there a way to configure the service to only use the ports I need and not every port from 990 up?
I have a gateway.2wire router from BT (model: BT2700HGV). My home network has a number of internet devices (PCs, game consoles, ipod touch etc)
Is there anyway to get monthly internet usage stats from the router?
The ISP (BT) will not give you these stats, they will only tell you when you go over your limit.
In a lab setup, I want eth0 on a Ubuntu server box to get a DHCP address for talking to the outside world, and I also want to assign it a static 10.x.y.z address for talking to other boxes on the local network that have 10.x.y.z addresses. I want to do this by editing /etc/network/interfaces.
The man page for /etc/network/interfaces is modeled after "here's a bunch of examples, I hope you can figure out the actual rules on your own". I don't see a way to give one interface two addresses using two different methods (static and dhcp), and initial fumbling didn't produce useful results.
Turns out that the IP of a much-needed new website is blocked from inside our organization's network for reasons that will take weeks to fix. In the meantime, could we set up a reverse proxy on an Internet-based server which will forward SSL traffic and perhaps client IPs to the external site? Load will be light. No need to terminate SSL on the proxy. We may be able to poison DNS so original URL can work.
How do I learn if I need URL rewriting? Squid/apache/nginx/something else? Setup would be fastest on Win 2000, but other OSes are OK if that would help. Simple and quick are good since it's a temporary solution.
Thanks for your thoughts!
I had an HFS+ formatted drive that was going bad and wouldn't mount at all on OSX. I created an image using ddrescue on linux, and was able to save most of it.
I can mount the drive and see the data just fine in linux using this:
mount -o loop -t hfsplus dd_image mountpoint
This doesn't work on my OSX system since hfsplus isn't a valid filesystem type. If I try:
mount -t hfs image mountpoint
It complains that it needs a block device. What's the fix here?
I have two virtual machines set up from Virtual PC on Windows 7 Professional: Windows XP Mode and Xubuntu. Last time I used them (last month or so), I had closed them by hibernating.
Evidently, I have meanwhile downloaded a Windows Update affecting VPC and now receive the following error in restoring either of them from hibernation:
'Xubuntu' could not be restored
because of either host processor type
mismatch or lack of hardware-assisted
virtualization support in the system.
I've been through the virtual machine's settings, and there's nowhere an option to simply reboot it. (Virtualization is not the problem, as I can create a new virtual machine without any problems.)
Any ideas?
The problem that I have is simple. We have recently upgraded from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. Everything went fine, and there are very few complaints. In Exchange 2003, some of our OWA users liked the Threading view, these users love the conversations view, especially with the cross-mailbox threading.
The problem is that some of these users are now complaining that old e-mails that they got from systems like bugzilla were migrated across correctly threaded, but the new e-mails are not being correctly threaded.
If I look at the mail source using an IMAP client then I can see that all of the mails that are turning up as being threaded have the (Microsoft specific) Thread-Index header, and the mails that are not getting grouped do not have this header.
The question is, how can I make the webmail client respect the normal threading?
That is, is there a way to
Make the OWA client use the standard In-Reply-To and References headers, or
Make Exchange generate the Thread-Index headers for Outlook and OWA to use?

I am getting the error "The data area passed to a system call is too small. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007A)" when trying to create a scheduled task on a particular windows machine.
The problem description is identical to that described in this Microsoft KB article
I followed their steps to resolve:
Stopped the task scheduler service (right-clicked "Task Scheduler" in the Services window from Control Panel and selected "Stop").
Restarted the task scheduler service
Waited 15 minutes
tried to schedule the task.
But the error is persisting.
To give more context of how we are creating these scheduled tasks, they are actually generated automatically from a configuration script (we run the script each time we wish to make a change). Each time this happens, it deletes all of the existing tasks and creates new ones.
I don't know what else to try.... but surely there is some way to "reset" the task scheduler... How can I stop this error from happening.
Hi to all, I have a problem with one of our PCs. I've inherited this PC and it's always had MS Office basic on it; the time has come to install our Access application on it, so I'm trying to install Office Professional 2003, the problem I have is the installer says the license key is invalid; I can only assume this is down to the fact that the PC used to have Office Basic installed. I've deleted the registration keys for the OFFICE11 section of the registry, but am still getting the problem... Any suggestions as to how to kill any trace of the old install would be appreciated - its' no longer showing up in the add/remove programs window.
I need to configure windows NLB on 2 dedicated servers I have.
My main machine has been running for some time, with several domain names pointing to the servers primary IP address.
Both servers have 2 NIC's installed, and both have several secondary public IP addresses available if needed?
What IP address would I use for the cluster IP, does this IP need to be added to the IP list of both public NIC's ip address list?
What IP addresses do I use for the host's dedicated IP?
Please help, this is driving me nuts...i've taken down the server twice on accident today!
Thank you in advance!
I am using Mail.app (running snow leopard) to connect to my email account on my school's Exchange 2007 server. I get my Inbox just fine, and iCal connects to my Outlook Calendar just fine, but I cannot seem to get any of the Exchange Public Folders that I can automatically see when I am using Outlook on a Windows box.
The Account Type is shown as "Exchange 2007"
I did not have any luck Googling this problem, in fact most of the results I saw were dealing with the opposite problem:
Remove MS Exchange Public Folders
I am aware that my question is a duplicate of this:
http://superuser.com/questions/103115/apple-mail-app-all-exchange-folders-not-visible
but since that question did not get any responses, I am reposting.
I'd like to permanently see a clickable list of windows I have open, in the same way that the taskbar allows in Windows. Can I do this on Mac?
Some details:
i have many virtual desktops (spaces), so often a single application has windows on many of them.
I often have multiple windows of each application, such as the terminal or browser, on the same virtual desktop
I have multiple monitors, if it matters.
Edit: When I say 'permanently see a clickable list of windows I have open' I mean that I want to see every window I have open, and I'd like to be able to click on each one to open that window. I'm not looking for the newer behaviour where tasks are clustered by application.
Routers A, B & C live at 10.1.1.1, 10.1.1.2 and 10.1.1.3 on a /24 metro Ethernet subnet. Each router also has its own private subnet on another interface. Router B's private subnet links thru a firewall to a 10.20.20.0 network at another organization.
Router B redistributes to A and C several static routes for hosts on 10.20.20.0. However, a new host 10.20.20.5/32 must be reached via a different path that goes through router C. I know that C can advertise this host-based route with no problem, but I'd like to keep all my 10.20.20.x static routes in one place.
So, how can B tell A via RIPv2 to send packets for 10.20.20.5/32 to C?
So far it looks like I need no ip split-horizon on router B's 10.1.1.2 interface, perhaps because B has already learned from C other routes with a next hop of 10.1.1.3. But how does RIPv2 split horizon with no auto-summary and network 10.0.0.0 really work? If B learns a route to ANY 10.x.x.x network or host from A or C, is that enough for split horizon to keep it from redistributing ip route 10.20.20.5 255.255.255.255 10.1.1.3?
And if I want to suspend split horizon only for this one new host, how do I filter out the mess of regurgitated routes that B advertises when I try no ip split-horizon?
Thanks much.
I'm using Google Apps for my domain's e-mail via IMAP. Whenever I send mail to a mailing list, I don't receive a copy of my own mail back in my inbox. According to Google, this is a "feature."
Is there a way to disable this "feature" so that all mail I send to mailing lists appears in my inbox just like all other e-mail?
Perhaps something along the lines of this method for disabling Google's spam filter??

A friend of mine likes ripping DVDs to his Mac. He’s currently on an ancient machine, and is about to upgrade to either a MacBook Pro or an iMac.
Just wondering if any of the Mac DVD ripping software will rip faster on the iMac (thanks to its four cores), as opposed to the MacBook Pro (a measly two cores)? Or is DVD ripping not that sort of task?
I have a new PC running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I have an issue installing IIS - it goes through the install process, but at the end tells me "not all components could be installed", with no additional information given. There is no sign of an error in the install log or in event viewer.
However, at this point, IIS is installed and working! I can run IIS manager, browse to localhost and see the default page, but at the next reboot the system rolls back and th einstall vanishes.
I have tried installing II using the Windows Components section in Add/Remove Programs, I have also tried the Web Platform Installer and using the command line, all with the same end result.
Running Ubuntu 12.10 on amd64.
I'm trying to set up different routing rules for a particular user. I understand that the right way to do this is to create a firewall rule that marks the packets for that user, and add a routing rule for that mark. Just to get testing going, I've added a rule that discards all packets as unreachable:
# ip rule
0: from all lookup local
32765: from all fwmark 0x1 unreachable
32766: from all lookup main
32767: from all lookup default
With this rule in place and all firewall chains in all tables empty and policy ACCEPT, I can still ping remote hosts just fine as any user.
If I then add a rule to mark all packets and try to ping Google, it fails as expected
# iptables -t mangle -F OUTPUT
# iptables -t mangle -A OUTPUT -j MARK --set-mark 0x01
# ping www.google.com
ping: unknown host www.google.com
If I restrict this rule to the VPN user, it seems to have no effect.
# iptables -t mangle -F OUTPUT
# iptables -t mangle -A OUTPUT -j MARK --set-mark 0x01 -m owner --uid-owner vpn
# sudo -u vpn ping www.google.com
PING www.google.com (173.194.78.103) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from wg-in-f103.1e100.net (173.194.78.103): icmp_req=1 ttl=50 time=36.6 ms
But it appears that the mark is being set, because if I add a rule to drop these packets in the firewall, it works:
# iptables -t mangle -A OUTPUT -j DROP -m mark --mark 0x01
# sudo -u vpn ping www.google.com
ping: unknown host www.google.com
What am I missing? Thanks!
Please advise how to add text to the beginning of every other line in notepad+-+
Actually, what I want to do is...
Add (title) to the beginning of lines 1, 3, 5, etc...(hundreds of lines in a notepad++ file)
Add (/title) to the end of lines 1, 3, 5, etc...
Then...
Add (link) to the beginning of even number lines (e.g. lines 2, 4, 6, 8, etc...)
Add (/link) to the end of even number lines (e.g. lines 2, 4, 6, 8, etc...)
Thanks
We're currently running server-side java apps on windows using JavaServiceWrapper and this has been a good solution for us. We have a small number of Spring-based lightweight applications.
But now we need to look at introducing some modularity into our services. To that end I have been thinking about OSGi.
I need to know which OSGi containers are ready for prime-time production use in a medium-ish load environment?
Eclipse Equinox 3.5.xKnopflerfish 3.xApache Felix 2.xAnything else?
