  • Windows 2003 Domain Controller Very Upset about NIC Teaming

    I set up BACS (Broadcom Teaming) to team two NIC on a Windows 2003 Active Directory Domain Controller. Networking still works okay, I can ping the gateway etc, but both DNS and Active Directory fail to start with various 40xx errors. The team that I created is Smart load Balancing with Failover, with one backup and only one in smart load balancing (So really it is just failover). I have the team the same IP address that the single active NIC had before. Anyone seen this before, or have any ideas what the problem might be?   • PXE with WDS & Windows Server 2012 - no filename option in DHCP lease?

    I'm trying to configure Windows Server 2012 (a virtual box VM) with WDS so I can PXE boot some Windows 7 VMs (also virtual box). All the machines involved are only attached to the "host only network", 192.168.56.0/24. The Server 2012 machine has been setup as an AD DS machine, has DNS installed and working along with DHCP with option 60 - PXEClient - set and WDS is set to not listen on DHCP ports. I've followed http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj648426.aspx very closely. I've used the boot.wim and install.wim files from the Win 7 installation DVD and they're configured as 'boot' and 'installation' images respectively. When I boot the target machine, it gets an IP address, but I simply get 'no filename' and the boot won't proceed any further. I've tried setting option 66 to 192.168.56.2 (the WDS server) and option 67 to both Boot\x64\wdsnbp.com and Boot\x64\pxeboot.n12 but all to no avail. I can't seem to see anything in the event log, either. Can anyone out there spot what I'm doing wrong? Or give tips to narrow down a diagnostic?

My first guess was that there's a Hardware problem of some sort and I asked my Hoster (it's a rented root server) to do a full hardwarecheck - they did, but couldn't find any problem. I don't know what and how they checked but their support team is usually quite good. I ran memtester and cpuburn myself and couldn't find any error either. Unfortunately I have no reliable way to reproduce these segfaults, they seem to be more or less random. On a hunch I disabled the firewall of the system and ran one of the programs that segfaulted regularily (imapsync) and it seemed to take longer to segfault than before, so the problem might be related to the network stack. Or could just be a random thing.   • Help diagnosing Likewise Open Active Directory authentication problem

    I have two servers which were up until recently authenticating against the companies Active Directory Domain controller. I believe a recent change to the Active Directory administrator password caused the servers to stop authenticating against AD. I tried to add the servers back to the domain using the command: domainjoin-cli join example.com adusername this seemed to work without complaints, but when I try to login via ssh with my domain account, I get an invalid password error. When I run the command: lw-enum-users it prints all of the domain users, and looking up my own account, I see that it is valid and my password hasn't expired.   • pfsense 2.0.1 Firewall SMB Share not showing up under network

    I have a freenas NAS with a SMB share running at 192.168.2.2 of a 192.168.2.0/28 network. Gateway is 192.168.2.1. Originally this was running on a switch with my LAN, but now having upgraded to new hardware the Freenas has it's own port on the firewall. Before the switch the freenas would show up under Network on a windows 7 box and an OSX Lion box as freenas{wins} or CIFS shares on freenas{osx} so I know it doesn't have anything do to with the freenas. Here are my pfsense rules.     Hi, We'll start shortly a partial virtualization of our infrastructure and consolidate a dozen servers into virtuals instances. We'll also add some client application virtualization into the mix for good measure. Two HP DL 380 with the new xeons 56xx and 96 GB of memory each running xenserver + xenapp will then take charge of most of our IT needs. So far, so good. One element that is missing from the picture is the storage part. We need some sort of shared storage to enable live motion and other HA features. We have an IBM DS 4300 SAN that we can use for that. But since it's in production since 2005, I'm not sure about such a critical role for a 5yr old part. So my question is: What is the reliability of this kind of equipment after 5 yr ? Can it last 10 yr with no or few problems ? Since our budjet is tight, not buying another SAN will be a big plus. This lead me to another question: FC disks cost an arm and a leg from IBM. When I type the replacement # in google (for example IBM 300GB 15K 4GBPS FC HDD 42D0410), I can find it at a fraction of the price at various sites. So am I stupid to buy from IBM or naive to trust 3rd party reseller ?? Thanks, Chris

    I want to configure the ADSL router which connects 10+ machines to the internet. I want to give maximum priority to browsing (ports 80,443) and set low priority for bittorrent etc.(port 42180) I have been experimenting with settings , but with no luck. There are three settings which confuse me, along with my understanding. 802.1 Priority - Related to LAN level, possible values 0-7 , higher numbers means higher priority. 'Mark traffic priority' - clueless about this. IPP/DS - IP Precedence - possible values 0-7 ; 6 & 7 are reserved, so set 5 for highest priority. Or when using DSCP - set 46 for highest priority. Please help me in getting this done... Similer question for another model of router here , but with less number of confusing options :) How to configure QoS on home router Update: from discussion on another thread, QoS can control only upstream traffic (from router to the internet) , while this may in turn affect downstream traffic rate, there is no direct control over data coming into the router.

  • Disabled FRS replication on a DFS link, but the targets still list the replica set in their FRS conf

    It's been a while since I've had to deal with the wonders of FRS, so I'm doing some testing to refresh my memory. This is what I've done so far. I am stuck with FRS rather than DFS-R for the moment since not all of my link targets are running R2. Created a domain-based DFS root, hosted on 4 servers. Created a DFS link under the root, targeted at 2 servers. The shares on both servers were empty. Dropped about 500MB of data into the target folder on one server and waited for replication to complete. Added/removed/modified files on both targets and confirmed that changes are replicated within a few seconds. Deleted the contents of the target folder on 1 server and waited for the other server to replicate the deletion. All of this worked perfectly, so now I want to remove my DFS link since I only created it for testing purposes. This is where it gets weird. I'm pretty sure that in the past I've disabled replication on the DFS link and after a short amount of time each target would log an info event in the FRS event log, something along the lines of "this server is no longer a member of replica set X". I have waited about 3 hours and I haven't seen this happen. ntfrsutl ds tells me that the server is not a member of any set, which is expected because when I disable replication on the link, the AD attributes on the computer object are removed. The weird part is... ntfrsutl sets still shows me the replica set, with all the properties, etc. So it seems like the FRS-related attributes of the target server's AD object are gone, but the FRS service for some reason hasn't removed the replica set. Can anyone see what I have done wrong?

  • Apache / PHP Begins to Deny SQL Requests after about 2000

    We have a web page on our server that we use to run administrative scripts. For example, we might run the script "unenrolStudents()" which runs 5,000 SQL SET commands one after another and sets 5000 student entries in an SQL database to unenrolled. However, we are finding that after running a few thousand queries (it is not totally consistent) we will be "locked out" by our server. SYMPTOMS OF LOCKING OUT: - unable to connect to server with winSCP - opening putty with that connection shows a blank screen (no login / pass) - clearing cookies / cache in chrome does NOT fix locking out - other computers in the office ALSO become locked out - locking out can be triggered with a high frequency of requests (10000 in 1 second) or by less over time (10000 in 500 seconds - this will still cause a lockout even though the frequency is much less) We believe this is a security feature of our own Apache. I know we are using Suhosin but I didn't configure it so I don't know. How can I disable this locking effect so that I can confidently run all my SQL requests and they will go through? Has anyone else dealt with this and found workarounds? Thanks DS

    I have just gotten my hands on a Cisco Pix 515 (not 515E) with 3 interfaces, and are just about to start some labs. In my lab, I am using a real life scenario from an actual setup at work. As I have no access to the device at work, I am simply trying to replicate the scenario by trial and error. At work, we are given two IP addresses from the provider, which is 1-to-1 nated addresses. The addresses we are allowed to use are: 10.131.35.4-5/29 Now, we have 3 servers on a DMZ, 192.168.2.2-4/24 and 17 client computers on 192.168.1.100-117/24 aswell as some static addressed devices on 192.168.1.8-18/27 My question is, how would I best set up so that the machines on the DMZ get's translated to 10.131.35.4 and the machines on 192.168.1.* will be translated to 10.131.35.5 I don't expect or want anyone to give me a fully functional config, I may learn from it, but I'd prefer to just have some advices or maybe a guide on how to set it up. I hope someone can shed some light over my situation, have been looking through google but I guess I don't the searchwords I'm using isn't too good as I can't find any good clues. THank you very much! PS. Maybe I should add, I am not unfamiliar with the Cisco CLI, as I prefer using that before any gui's. So not really looking for any solutions for the ASDM. DS.

    I am having a problem with smbpasswd, an LDAP backend server and SSL/TLS certificates. The client machine that I run smbpasswd on is a Debian Etch machine, and the Ldap server is Sun DS running on Solaris. All the following occurs on the client. When I disable SSL, by setting "ldap ssl = no" in smb.conf, the smbpasswd program works without errors. When I set "ldap ssl = start tls", the following messages are printed by smbpasswd and there is a long timeout period before any password is asked by it Failed to issue the StartTLS instruction: Connect error Connection to LDAP server failed for the 1 try! ..... long delay ..... New SMB password: Retype new SMB password: Failed to issue the StartTLS instruction: Connect error Connection to LDAP server failed for the 1 try! smbpasswd: /tmp/buildd/openldap2-2.1.30/libraries/liblber/io.c:702: ber_get_next: Assertion `0' failed. Aborted I conducted some tests with "ldapsearch -ZZ". It was not working at first, but after I added the TLS_CACERT line to /etc/ldap/ldap.conf, /etc/libnss-ldap.conf and /etc/pam_ldap.conf, it started working. So relevant TLS sections in all those files are: ssl start_tls tls_checkpeer no tls_cacertfile /path/to/ca-root.pem TLS_CACERT /path/to/ca-root.pem But the smbpasswd program continued giving the error. I tried creating /etc/smbldap-tools/smbldap.conf file with following content (after consulting debian docs for smbldap-tools package) But as I see, smbpasswd comes with samba-common package and does not use the configuration for smbldap-tools utilities. verify="optional" cafile="/path/to/ca-root.pem" My question is: How can I set which SSL CA Certificate is used by smbpasswd program ?

  • Windows Domain Chaos - Any Solving Approach

    we are running an old Window 2003 Server as Domain Controller (DC2003). To safely migrate to Windows 2008 R2 we added a 2008 R2 (DC2008R2) to the domain as domain controller (adprep etc.). After dcpromo on DC2008R2 everything seemed to be ok. The new DC appeared under the "Domain Controlelrs" node. It wasn't checked at this time, if DC2008R2 can REALLY act as domain controller. Later we tried to shutdown DC2003 and ran into a total mess with non functional Exchange and Team Foundation Services. After that I got the job to fix... First i thought it could be an Problem with DC2008R2. So I removed it as Domain Controller and installed a new Windows 2008 R8 Server DC2008R2-2. I ran into similar Problems. I tried a bunch of stuff, but nothign helped. I won't list it, maybe I made an mistake, so I'm willing to redo it with your suggestions. To have a starting point I tried the best practise analyser whicht ended up with 24 "Compatible" and 26 "Not Compatible" tests. From these 26 tests 19 read the same. (I'm translating from german, so that may to be the exact wording) Problem: Using the Best Practise Analyser for Active Directory Domain Services (Active Directory Domain Services Best Practices Analyzer, AD DS BPA) no data can be be gathered using the name of the forest and the domain controller DC2008R2-2. I appreciate any suggestions, this really bothers me.

  • Am I getting the right memory for my motherboard?

    Hi technophiles; I have a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS motherboard. Also, the memory that came with my computer was two Transcend aXe RAM 1066MHZ 1GB modules. The thing is, I noticed that my motherboard has "DDR2 1200" written on it. This concerns me, have I bought slower memory than my computer is supposed to have ideally? Now, I'm not super concerned at a granular level about the best optimal RAM with the best CAS latency etc... but I do hope at least that I've got the right speed. Now, as far as I know, there is no such thing as ram at 1200MHZ? Am I right? You see, because I'm thinking of getting more RAM now, before I can't find the same type or speed any-more and just want to make sure it's the right thing. Furthermore, if the memory is slower than what I should be getting for my motherboard, what RAM should I be getting, and will that new RAM play nice with my old RAM? If I get new RAM at a different speed, would it be better / more beneficial performance-wise to omit the old RAM because of how the whole DUAL channel RAM thing works? I'm not too clued up on this area. Thanks chiefs.

    Is there a way to know the source and legitimacy of the tasks in the task scheduler in windows server 2008 and 2003? Can I check if the task was added by Microsoft (ie: from sccm) or by a 3rd party application? For each task in the task scheduler, I want to verify that the task has not been created by a third party application. I only want to allow standards Microsoft Tasks and disable all other non-standards tasks. I have created a PowerShell script that goes through all the xml files in the C:\Windows\System32\Tasks directory and I was able to read all the xml task files successfully but I am stuck on how to validate the tasks.   • Disabling LDAP Signing on Windows PDC in Local Policy

    I just tripped over my own feet it seems. Playing around on a Windows 2008 R2 server (set up as domain controller), I was intrigued by certain warning event (event id 2886) which says: "To enhance the security of directory servers, you can configure both Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) and Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS) to require signed Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) binds." So I thoughtlessly did some Googling and set the relevant policies which enforce LDAP signing. Now I don't remember but I may have done that using Local Policy. Now I have setup a pfsense box which must authenticate AD users via LDAP. While the firewall can communicate over secure channel, it is difficult to manage the same for other packages such as Squid and SquidGuard. So now I have to disable i.e. undo those policy changes. The problem is that they are greyed out! The policies in question are LDAP server signing and LDAP client signing. I don't remember what I did but when I access these policies from Local Policy editor on the server, they are set to "Require Signing" and are greyed out. The same policies can still be set via Default Domain Controller option in Group Policy editor. So how can I reset these greyed out policies? Thanks

  • Migrating Linux user data to Windows profiles automatically

    I have what seems to be an incredibly simple problem with a very simple solution but I'm having some trouble connecting dots. I have an aging server running Ubuntu Server which hosts roaming profiles. I am switching to a Windows Server 2012 DS shortly. Users used to be named firstinitial.lastname and we are switching to firstname.lastname. I need to transfer things like favorites, documents, etc. from the roaming Linux profile to the user's local Windows profile. So, the way I think it'd work is by using a login script. I think I'd use a script to mount the Linux server's /home for each user, then do copy to various paths (documents, pictures, etc.). But, how do I automate this for each user that logs in? I'm working with a nonprofit, so doing this by hand would probably be out of their budget. I'm open to suggestions, though. What I want is basically Windows Easy Migration, but I'm fairly certain that won't work under Wine... (Kidding, I promise). Thanks!

    I have DNS set up with powerdns. It serves my DNS pretty well, and it AXFRs to other slaves. The slaves haven't yet updated to the most recent records, but that doesn't affect the validation, it would appear. Any record I can think of (AAAA, MX, TXT, even the CNAME for www) validates -- except for A records: dig @149.20.64.20 +dnssec www.demize95.com CNAME returns ;; flags: qr rd ra ad; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 2, AUTHORITY: 5, ADDITIONAL: 7 while dig @149.20.64.20 +dnssec demize95.com A returns ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 2, AUTHORITY: 5, ADDITIONAL: 7. The same happens with any other A record I have. I set up DNSSEC with pdnssec, and it does work for all the other records, but it's never validated for my A records. What's the problem here? Also, a side-note: I have to use ISC's DLV to create the chain of trust, since my domain registrar doesn't yet support sending the DS records to the com zone.

  • Port 80 not accessible Amazon ec2

    I have started a Amazon EC2 instance (Linux Redhat)... And Apache as well. But when i try: http://MyPublicHostName I get no response. I have ensured that my Security Group allows access to port 80. I can reach port 22 for sure, as i am logged into the instance via ssh. Within the Amazon EC2 Linux Instance when i do: $ wget http://localhost i do get a response. This confirms Apache and port 80 is indeed running fine. Since Amazon starts instances in VPC, do i have to do anything there... Infact i cannot even ping the instance, although i can ssh to it! Any advice? EDIT: Note that i had edited /etc/hosts file earlier to make 389-ds (ldap) installation work. My /etc/hosts file looks like this(IP addresses as shown as w.x.y.z ) 127.0.0.1   localhost.localdomain localhost w.x.y.z   ip-w-x-y-z.us-west-1.compute.internal w.x.y.z   ip-w-x-y-z.localdomain

I don't know if this is ok on this late stage.. don't have a lot of asp.net experience after all. If anyone can suggest a better solution, please give me a hint. This all works great so far, except when i have two or more filters and set them to a combination that returns zero records. Bam ... gridview gone, completely - without a possiblity of changing the filters back. So i googled and found out that i have to subclass gridview in order to always show the headerrow. I found this solution and implemented it with some modifications. The headerrow get's displayed and i can change the filters even if the returned result contains no rows. But finally to my current problem: When i have two or more filters set which return zero rows, and i change back one filter to something that should return rows, the gridview remains empty (although the pager is rendered). I have to completly refresh the page to reset the filters. When debugging, i can see in the overridden CreateChildControls of the grid, that the base method indeed returns 0, but anyway... the gridView.RowCount remains 0 after databinding. Anyone have an idea what's going wrong here?

  • Problem adding namespaces to MSXML (using setProperty('SelectionNamespaces', ...))

    A while back, I asked a question regarding the usage of namespaces in MSXML. At first, I circumvented the whole thing with the XPath *[local-name()]-hack (see my previous post), but having a crisis of conscience I decided to do things the right way. (Doh!) Consider the following XML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <Root xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.foo.bar mySchema.xsd" xmlns="http://www.foo.bar" xmlns:ds="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <MyElement> </MyElement> </Root> When I try to add these namespaces using IXMLDOMDocument3.setProperty('SelectionNamespaces', NSString);, I get the following error: "SelectionNamespaces property value is invalid. Only well-formed xmlns attributes are allowed.". When removing the namespace xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.foo.bar mySchema.xsd", everything runs smoothly. What am I doing wrong here? Is there an error in the XML? Is MSXML to blame?

Both projects reference a database project which opens a connection to an MS-Access 2007 database file and have references to System.Data.OleDb.
