• Make browsing safe for porn surfers

  At several places I've done some work at, I have a suspicion that some of the executives browse porn on their work computers. It appears this porn surfing has lead to virus infections on their computers despite the presence of an anti-virus. Filtering theses specific users' browsing is not an option, so what would be my next best solution be? I put Firefox + Adblock pro on their computers. I'm tempted to add NoScript, but I'm worried they'll start calling when noscript interferes with browsing on legit websites. Is there anything else I can due to mitigate this risk?

• Sony PMB causing failure to load Windows 7 Pro 64-bit normally or even Safe Mode

  After installing Sony's Picture Motion Browser on my desktop with Windows 7 Pro x64, it always goes to Startup Repair due to Windows 7 failing to start. This always happens after I try to install it. I've installed with all unnecessary programs closed and all disk drives and unnecessary usb ports empty. I don't exactly know what is causing the problem. Any ideas? • "Safe" personal router use on apartment-wide network

  I recently moved into an apartment with internet included in my rent. This was a boon at first, but now I'm feeling limited. To get devices connected (wired or wireless), I have to whitelist the MAC addresses on mycampusnet.com. This is annoying (considering I'm well over the 10 device limit including my roommate's stuff), but what's really driving me mad is that I don't seem to have any semblance of a "local" network. I've relied heavily on static IPs and port forwarding in the past (accessing NAS and remote desktop) and (as far as I can understand), that functionality is nonexistent without my router set up. Also, as my wired and wireless devices don't always seem to make it onto the same subnet, I'm unable to use any of my iDevices with my Apple TV (I can, however, mirror to no less than four strangers' Apple TVs at any moment, which is a whole other level of discomforting). I've talked to the head of the apartment complex and she told me that they personally don't have any issue with my using a router, but the provider (CampusConnect) does not currently allow it. Apparently, enough people have put in complaints/requests about the restriction (the apartments are for graduate students and University staff, many of which need to set up things like VPNs for work reasons) to open up some sort of ticket to get the functionality in place, but all the calls I've made to get status updates have been a waste of time. My question is: If I plugged my router into the apartment network, what would happen? I've been told already that personal routers would "interfere with the wireless" and that they would shut my port down if I used one, but is that a legitimate thing or just something made up that sounds real to keep the average Joe from pushing it further? I'm guessing there's some way of configuring my router to keep it from disrupting the rest of the network, but it's not something they want to tell me for obvious reasons. Am I right? And if so, what are the chances that they'd notice the difference in traffic or whatever and shut off my port?

• Some Adsense domain's ads are causing document.write() statements that remove the html from the page

  All that is output on the page is the domain name of the advertiser, for example 'www.solar-aid.org'. The rest of the content is stripped, I believe because of a document.write() statement. I'd like to know if this is a common issue or something wrong with our setup. There are three domains causing the issue, which we've blocked from Adsense as a result. solar-aid.org kiva.org grameenfoundation.org Given the type of organizations I think they may be within the default group of 'public service ads' within the Backup Ads setting. If the issue doesn't completely resolve itself soon (one customer of ours complained today, even though I blocked them 5+ days ago), I'll disable public service ads and select the 'fill space with a solid color' option.

• How to totaly remove blank screen screensaver?

  I have no screensaver installed but when I watch movies after a while blank screen comes and I have to get up every time and move mouse to continue watching the movie. It really pisses me off. I found this command "gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver idle-activation-enabled false" which allegedly disables blank screen... I put that command in once, and blank screen keeps doing its crap. I did it again, blank screen still works on its own and would not stop. Did it trice, and nothing. Please someone help me with this, I'm freaking out when trying to watch a decent movie. I'd have to mention that I once had "xscreensaver" installed but I removed it after awhile. Don't know if it has something to do with blank screen still work, maybe some else would know. PLEASE HELP !

• How can you remove Unity from Ubuntu Netbook Edition

  In previous versions of Netbook Remix I was able to disable the netbook-launcher and just have a blank desktop. I liked the speed of the Netbook version but not the interface, this worked well for me. However, now with 10.10 and Unity I'm having trouble doing a similar thing. I tried removing netbook-launcher from the startup and tried uninstalling unity. The best result I got was a black desktop with a panel and a non configurable blank white background. Is Unity soo integrated into this version that I will have to just go with the default ubuntu installation?? In the past the default version has been slower then the Netbook version without the interface. Thanks.

• Unable to remove the lock by normal means

  I've been installing ubuntu restricted extras via the software center. Everything was going well at first, but then the installation process froze on 'applying changes' stage. I've had this in the past already, and usually just hitting the 'cancel' button helped, but not this time. Obviously, the install process has placed a lock, and I couldn't issue any apt-get commands. then i've tried doing what was suggested here Fixing Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock : sudo fuser -cuk /var/lib/dpkg/lock; sudo rm -f /var/lib/dpkg/lock but it seemed to me that it has only killed my X server. Okay, i've just pressed the power button on my PC, and restarted, hoping that the lock was finally off and i could reinstall the stuff. No dice. when I open the software center, I still have one operation in process, a weird one: " Searching | Cancelling ". The 'cancel' button is either inactive, or it just does nothing. So I've become desperate and decided to write here. How do I fix the problem? Can't install anything on a fresh ubuntu 12.04 :) Thanks in advance

Given the above scenario, I like to ask the following questions: How do you protect your private ssh keys? I read about ssh-agent but I am not sure how to use it or if it can be used in this situation. If a sysadmin leaves and he copies all the private ssh keys, then he has access to all the servers. • Remove unwanted Mount option from Places Menu

  On Ubuntu 10.10, I added a CIFS network share into /etc/fstab using /media/pub as my mount point. The share becomes visible on the Desktop and under Places (drive icon), which is what I want. But the problem is, Ubuntu 10.10 (unlike 10.04) creates another entry under Places with same name "pub", except this appears to be a mount shortcut rather than another link to the share. When I move my mouse over it says "Mount pub" and if I click on it, it will mount the share and again each time (if already mounted) - it does not display contents of share. In either case, an error pops up soon after "Unable to mount pub - Timeout waiting for mount to appear". The share itself is accessible, but I can't unmount via GUI, system reports its mounted multiple times and I have to unmount via terminal. (sudo umount -a) As I'm mounting the share at boot time, I don't need this manual option under Places. Is there an easy way to stop Ubuntu from listing it under Places? I have tried making the mount point under /mnt, this fixes the problem, except creates another as it removes the drive icon from Desktop and Places. I could create a bookmark, but just wondered if there's an easy fix to this unwanted entry under Places. Thanks

  For my education I have to make a basic game in HTML5 canvas. The game is a shooter game. When you can move left - right and space is shoot. When I shoot the bullets will move up. The enemy moves down. When the bullet hits the enemy the enemy has to dissapear and it will gain +1 score. But the enemy will dissapear after it comes up the screen. • How to remove Ubunto from boot screen?

  I tried to install Ubuntu 14.04 on my Windows 8, and in the installation wizard I chose "Help me boot from CD". But that's not my concern now. I don't know if that means I have Ubuntu installed on my computer now or not, but I wanna delete it from the boot screen.   I am the webadmin of a WordPress site that serves up http pages statically. The problem is that some of the pages are shown as https in Google search results. For instance, if the search term "Example Press Kit" is entered the search result site link comes up as: https://example.com/presskit/ We don't have a site ssl certificate, so surfers are being bounced. I have tried everything. Most recently I created a new website in Google WebAdmin for the https version of our home page. Then, I added sitelinks that should have redirected site links intended for https://example.com/* to http://example.com/*. But it doesn't work! Google still shows a dead link to http://example.com/presskit. I didn't think dead links lasted very long on Google results, but there they are, two weeks later. Any ideas?

  Trying to manually remove an entry from Control Panel Add/Remove Programs. (custom software, not MS KB patch or windows component and not doing anyting 'funky' like trying to stop itself form being uninstalled) Followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481 removing all applicable registry keys for program from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ and even tried rebooting but still it persists. Double checked followed KB314481 and search for program name doesn't return any other matches in that part of the registry. Any ideas what would cause this or how to solve?

  OK I have had Ubuntu for a month now and have absolutely been loving it. I have been able to fix problems in the terminal etc. Until I downloaded Deluge. Deluge does not work and it is acting like a virus. I have tried all the recommendations I can find I have tried 5 or so different terminal commands and nothing works.   I recently started using Nemo because Nautilus has gotten pretty terrible. I quite like it, but one thing is still bugging me: the shadow of the preview of every image and video file (see below). I've been looking around in the /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-3.0/apps/nemo.css file but couldn't figure out how to get rid of that shadow. In Nautilus you get a border instead of a shadow, so surely something is different. I just can't figure out what. Any ideas?

• Moving the Windows Workflow database: safe enough?

  We have a Windows Workflow service that is running in the IIS context and persisting to a database in between hydrates. It has the Tracking Service turned on, as well. We're looking to move the database to another server, and I wanted to make sure there are no gotchas in doing so. My current plan would just be to spin down IIS to stop all activity, back up the database, migrate the database, then flip connection strings in my application to point to the new one. My main concern was if existing workflows somehow need to stay on the same database or not, or if some activity needs to happen for them to work after the move. I wouldn't think so, but just planning ahead.

  When chatting on IRC, it is possible to leak data like OS, CPU type if the IRC client happens to leak it in VERSION string. Anybody doing /CTCP VERSION can see it. Same about timezone (/CTCP TIME). This can be mitigated by turning replies to CTCP queries off. Also, IP address is leaked to others (/whois nickname will show it if it's not cloaked). By analogy, does the mumble client expose such sensitive data to others that are connected to the same server? If it does, what are the ways to mitigate this?
